Ensure the surface is level, clean and dry. The area surrounding the couch should be free from obstructions. Check especially that nothing will foul the couch during either raising or lowering cycles. A suitably close mains power point is required. Using your couch: Do s & Don ts DO ensure you read these instructions and fully understand them before using the couch. DO ensure the couch in inspected on a regular basis (minimum once yearly service). DO ensure the couch is cleaned on a regular basis DO NOT exceed the safe working load DO NOT allow children to play with the couch. DO NOT use the couch if the electric lift makes any unusual noises, smells, or becomes excessively hot. DO NOT allow any part of the couch to come into contact with a naked flame or excessive heat source. DO NOT store items underneath the couch. DO NOT pressure wash the couch. Operating the electrically powered variable height Battery Backup A battery backup feature will automatically engage when the couch is disconnected from the mains supply. This allows emergency or temporary operation of the couch for a limited time. If operated using the battery backup when the battery level becomes low an alarm will sound. The couch should remain connected to the mains at all times for normal use, to ensure that the batteries remain fully charged. This will also prolong the life of the batteries. Adjusting the back rest angle The back rest should not be used as a means of raising the person on the couch. Ensure the person can support themselves while the back rest is adjusted. If they are incapable of supporting themselves seek assistance while adjusting the backrest. Ensure the backrest mechanism is firmly engaged before placing weight on the backrest. Raising the backrest Lift the backrest until the desired angle is reached, and the rear latch mechanism engages firmly. Lowering the backrest Raise the backrest past the top most position, and then lower the back rest down all the way to the horizontal position. Lowering the Side Rails Lift the side rail at the head end, off the support, and rotate it a half turn until it comes to rest. Care and maintenance WARNING - Unplug the mains lead from the wall socket, before cleaning the couch OR before examining any electrical parts of the couch. Cleaning Frame Upholstery - Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent. Use of bleach or a surface cleaner may scowl the paint surface. - Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent. Ensure the surface is completely dry before using again. Regular Checks Upholstery - Check for any signs of tearing, split seems or other forms of damage. Handrails - Ensure all the handrail fixings are secure, none are loose or missing. Backrest - Ensure both sides engage properly in the toothed rail. - Ensure no parts are excessively worn. Check no parts are missing or broken. Electrical - Ensure all connectors are pushed fully home. - Ensure the electric cables have not become worn, cut or trapped in any of the moving parts. - The couch should be PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) tested regularly. Fault diagnosis Couch will not raise / lower:Check the area around the couch is free of obstacles. Check the maximum load has not being exceeded. Check the electrical plugs and sockets are all engaged, and are not damaged. Check the mains lead is connected to the mains supply. Check that the control handset is not damaged. Back rest will not lower:Check backrest is positioned fully up before attempting to lower. Check the area behind the backrest is free from obstructions. If the problem persists, unplug the couch from the mains supply and contact your supplier. DO NOT use the couch until the problem has been resolved.
