To make sure your child has optimum protection at any age, the COCOON Genius has two different installation options: 0-13 kg Rearward facing for children up to 18kg child safety seat cocoon genius Tested and certified according to ECE* R 44/04 Group Body Weight 0+ Up to 13kg *ECE = European Standard for Safety Equipment Children with a body weight of under 9 kg must be secured with the COCOON Genius Rearward facing. We recommend using the seat rearward facing until your child has reached a body weight of 13 kg. This approval will be invalidated if you make any modifications to the child safety seat. Only the manufacturer is permitted to make modifications to the child safety seat. Adjusting the child seat /11 Adjusting the child seat 3.1 Adjusting the shoulder straps and headrest Correctly adjusted shoulder straps ensure optimal protection for your child in the safety seat. For child weight 0-13kg the headrest (3-C) to make sure the harness belt strap slots are level with or just above your child's shoulders (3-D). Re-fasten the harness buckle (3-E). Adjusting the child seat /14 Securing your child /15 Securing your child For the protection of your child • The child safety seat requires only one seating position in the car. This advantage means, however, that your baby must be in a semi-reclined position when installing rearward facing. As a general rule: The more snugly the harness fits over your child's body, the safer your child will be. • Please do not leave your child unattended in the child safety seat in the vehicle. Take your baby out of the child safety seat as often as possible to relieve its spine. Tighten the straps until they are in contact with your child's body. (see 4.3) • The shoulder straps are adjusted correctly. Caution! The lap belt must lie as low as possible over your child's lap. • The buckle tongues are engaged in the harness buckle. 4. 3 Tightening the straps • The shoulder pads are in the right position on your child's body. Pull on the adjusting strap until you hear a click from the harness adjuster. Tip! Pull the adjusting strap as straight as possible. Pull shoulder pads down fully. Pull shoulder straps to remove all slack from the lap section ensuring the harness lies flat. Pull the adjuster straps again until you hear a click. • The straps are not twisted. 4-A 4-B Installation in the vehicle /17 Installation in the vehicle 3-point-belt through the Lap Belt Guides slot (5-C). 5.1 Installation in the vehicle rearward facing for children up to 13 kg Thread the diagonal portion of 3-point-belt around the Central Position for Diagonal Belt back of the cocoon genius fix (5-D). Please do not leave your child unattended in the child safety seat in the vehicle. Children weighing less than 9 kg must use the cocoon genius fix rearward facing, we recommend to use the New cocoon rearward facing until your child reach a body weight of 13 kg. Rearward facing the cocoon genius fix MUST be put in sleeping position(position 5) (see 3.2). Please use the CuddleMe Baby Insert attached to this seat when your child's weight is less than 9 kg. To secure the child seat rearward facing using the 3-point belt of your vehicle proceed as follows: Place the cocoon genius fix rearward facing in your car. Pull out all the belt from the retractor, pull the belt around the seat and close the buckle (5-A). Push the Seat Shell (4-B), feed the lap portion of Open the Belt Clamp Handle, insert the diagonal belt into the clamp slot (5-E). Check: Use only one of the belt clamps, it is located at the same side as the car retractor. Remove all the slack in the belt, then close the clamp (5-F). Turn the Tensioner Handle on (5-G). Place your child into the seat (5-H) and fit the harness(see 3.1). Tighten the harness securely by pulling the adjuster strap (5-I). Check: Any straps holding the restraint to the vehicle should be tight, that any straps restraining the child should be adjusted to the child's body, and that straps should not be twisted. Installation in the vehicle /18 Installation in the vehicle /19 Installation in the vehicle 5.2 Installation in the vehicle forward facing for children 9 kg to 18 kg Please do not leave your child unattended in the child safety seat in the vehicle. To secure the child seat rearward facing using the 3-point belt of your vehicle proceed as follows: Place the cocoon genius fix forward facing in your car. Push the Seat Shell, pull out the belt from the retractor, thread the belt around the seat base and close the buckle (5-J).Feed the lap portion of 3-point-belt through the Lap Belt Guides slot (5-K). Thread the diagonal portion of 3-point-belt around the Central Position for Diagonal Belt back of the cocoon genius fix (5-L). Open the Belt Clamp Handle, insert the diagonal portion of 3-point-belt into the clamp slot (5-M). Remove all the slack in the belt and close the clamp (5-N/5-O). Check: Use only one of the belt clamps, it is located at the same side as the car retractor. Turn and lock the Tensioner Handle (5-P). Place your child into the seat (5-Q) and fit the harness. Tighten the harness securely by pulling the adjuster strap (5-R). Check: Any straps holding the restraint to the vehicle should be tight, that any straps restraining the child should be adjusted to the child's body, and that straps should not be twisted. Installation in the vehicle /20 Installation in the vehicle /21 5.3 ISOFIX Installation in the vehicle rearward facing for children up to 13 kg If your car is equipped with ISOFIX anchor points, you can install the cocoon using the ISOFIX anchor points in combination with the support leg. To check whether your car is suitable for ISOFIX attachment and the support leg, refer to your motor dealer. (5R) Extend the floor support leg fully, adjust the height of the floorsupport leg to make sure the leg reaches the floor of your car. To remove the cocoon seat and base from your car just pull back the ISOFIX release button. (see p.6) 5-P Place the seat on the floor backward; you are facing the under side of the seat base. Install the ISOFIX base into the seat, by inserting the three hooks into the seat base. (5P) The ISOFIX connectors are facing downward. Turn the ISOFIX tensioner Handle 180 degree to secure the connection between the ISOFIX and seat. (5Q) Put the seat rearward facing in your car. Lock the two ISOFIX connector into the ISOFIX anchorages in your car seat. Use the supplied ISOFIX anchor guides. (5R) When the connectors are locked on the anchorages, the ISOFIXindicator will turn green 5-R 5-Q Installation in the vehicle /22 5.4 ISOFIX Installation in the vehicle forward facing for children 9 kg to 18 kg 5-O 5-P 5-Q 5-R Place the seat on the floor backward; you are facing the under side of the seat base. Install the ISOFIX base into the seat, by inserting the three hooks into the seat base. (5P) The ISOFIX connectors are facing upward. Turn the ISOFIX connecting handle 180 degree to secure the connection between the ISOFIX and seat. (5Q) Put the seat forward facing in your car. Lock the two ISOFIX connector into the ISOFIX anchorages in your car seat. (5O) When the connectors are locked on the anchorages, the ISOFIX indicator will turn green (5R). Extend the floor support leg fully out, adjust the height of the floor support leg to make sure the leg reaches the floor of your car. To remove the cocoon seat and base from your car just pull back the releasing button. Removing and Re-fittng the cover /23 6.1 Removing the cover 6.2 Re-fitting the cover The seat cover can be removed from the cocoon genius fix seat and is washable. Simply proceed in the reverse order of section 6.1. Pull and hold the centre adjuster button to loosen the belts. Release the child seat buckle by pressing the red button, then split the buckle tongues on each side of the seat. Remove the headrest cover from the headrest by unhooking the elastic band from the hook stands (6-A). Unbutton the cover at the seating portion of the covers. Unhook all the elastic bands from its hook stands, so you can remove the seat cover from the seat (6-B). Don't remove the harness system on the seat. To refit the seat cover on the seat just hook up the elastic bands to its hook stand, button up the cover connecting parts. And fit back the headrest cover (6-C). Caution! Ensure that the straps are not twisted and that they were correctly inserted in the recesses of the cover. Removing and Re-fittng the cover /24 6.1 Cleaning The seat cover can be washed with lukewarm water and a gentle soap.Do not use any abrasive detergents. The cover must be washed by hand at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Do not use dry cleaning . The buckle may be cleaned with warm water. It is advisable to buy an spare cover. So you can use baby car seat all the time when the original cover was washed. 6.2 Checklist To retain the protective effect • In an accident at a collision speed above 10 km/h the child safety seat could suffer damage which is not necessarily obvious. In this case the child safety seat must be replaced. • Regularly check all essential parts for damage. Ensure the correct operation of all mechanical components. • To prevent damage or breakage, ensure that the child safety seat not trapped in the car door, seat runners, etc. • Should the child safety seat be damaged (e. g.after dropping it) it must be inspected by the manufacturer. • Never lubricate or oil parts of the child seat. • Store the child seat in a safe place when it is not in use. • Avoid placing heavy objects on top of it. Do not store it near a direct heat source or in direct sunlight.
