Position the Mist Ecology controller unit on the wall of the house and mark the holes located on either side of the unit. If your house is brick, align the holes in the mortar between the bricks. [If you plan on drilling with a masonry bit, you may mark the holes in the brick] NOTE: Make sure the location of the controller unit is away from your condensing unit so mist does not reach it, and above the water line of spray from your sprinkler heads. This will minimize possible water corrosion of your controller unit. Drill holes for the controller unit. Using a 3/167 bit, drill holes approximately 1-1/2" deep at the locations marked. Insert screw anchors. Insert one anchor in each hole, tapping the anchor so itis flush with the wall. Drive screws into anchors. Using a screw driver, drive a screw into each anchor. Make sure the head of the screw is approximately 3/8” from the wall so the controller can be hung easily. Hang controller unit on wall. Align holes on each side of the controller unit with the screw heads anchored in the wall. Slide the controller unit to the left and tighten screws to secure to wall. Attach the controller unit to the water valve. Take the male plug of the cable from the water valve and insert into the female plug on the Mist Ecology controller unit. Make sure the connection is snug. ti STEP 7: STEP 8: STEP 9: STEP 10: Mark location of the water valve. Your Orbit water valve has two openings: one is to take in water and the other is to send it out to the AC Spritzer misting system around your A/C unit. The out valve is on the same side of the unit as the cable which attaches to your controller unit. Make sure the intake valve is facing the direction of your water source. (If you need to change the bracket around, do so now.) Position the Orbit water valve on the wall underneath the mounted controller unit. Mark the wall where the two screws should be located. (Only two screws are required, the extra holes are for positioning.) Drill holes for the water controller. Using a 3/16” bit, drill holes approximately 1-1/2" deep at the locations marked. Insert screw anchors. Insert one anchor in each hole, tapping the anchor so it is flush with the wall. Secure water valve on wall. Position the water valve on the wall and align the bracket holes with screw anchors. Using a screw driver, drive a screw into each anchor. Tighten screws to secure unit to the wall. CAUTION: Please read before proceeding: 1. If you are not comfortable working with electricity, have a trained technician install the AC Spritzer or install using the temperature probes approach. 2. Before connecting cable, turn off the 240-volt power at the appliance shutoff (disconnect) box. It’s usually outside within sight of the outdoor unit. Some shutoffs simply pull out, while others have a handle to pull down or a fuse to remove. If there isn’t one, turn off the power at the circuit breaker at the main panel that controls the outdoor unit. {| STEP 11: Attach Mist Ecology controller cables to A/C unit control wires. Four color-coded cables run from the bottom of the Mist Ecology controller unit.: - White - Measures the outside temperature. - Red & Blue - Measures the temperature of the pipes running from the A/C unit - Black - Connects directly to the A/C thermostat and 24-volt power line( if used) OPTION A (Preferred): Connecting Power Cable The preferred cable connection is to connect the power cable to the A/C unit's thermostat and voltage wires. By connecting the power cable to your A/C unit, you will save battery life. When the condenser turns on, and the outside temperature is at or above the programmed temperature of your AC Spritzer, the controller converts to the A/C power until the condenser turns off. To connect the power: 1. Open up the side of the A/C unit to expose the electrical wires. (NOTE: Please check your user manual that came with your A/C unit for more details about the electrical system of your unit.) 2. Insert cables from the AC Spritzer controller unit through the hole on the side of the A/C unit along side the thermostat wires which run from the inside unit in the house. | 3. Disconnect the A/C unit thermostat wires. (On most A/C only units, the thermostat wires are red and white. Please check your A/C unit's user manual for more information.) 4. Connect one yellow wire from the AC Spritzer controller to one of the thermostat wires. Connect the other yellow wire to the other thermostat wire. It is recommended to use wire nuts to secure wires together. If your A/C unit has terminal screws, attach the wires at the terminal and tighten the screw. 5. If your A/C unit has constant 24-volt power, you may connect the red and black wires from the controller to the Low voltage power source for your A/C unit. To save your controller's battery life, you may connect the red and black wires along with the yellow wires on an AC only unit, this wiring is not for heat pumps. Heat pumps requirethe red and yellow wires to be seperate. ( Please see diagrams). 6. If you are not connecting the power wires, either use wire nuts to protect the ends, or use electrical tape to prevent the lose wires from causing electrical damage. 7. Coil the blue- and red-coded cables and tie with zip ties to keep neatly away from the other wires and cables. 8. Attach the outside A/C unit panel back in place. OPTION B Connecting Red- and Blue-Coded Cables The red- and blue-coded cables monitor the temperature differential of the pipes running from your A/C unit. When A/C unit is running, one pipe becomes cool, while the other becomes warmer. This differential instructs the controller unit to check the outside ambient temperature and trigger the misters. 1. Attach the end of red-coded cable to the liquid line, or smaller copper pipe, and secure with zip ties. This line is NOT insulated. 2. Attach the blue-coded cable to the suction line, or the larger pipe, and secure with zip ties. This line IS insulated. Make sure that the colored end of the cable is in direct contact with the copper pipe and between the pipe and the insulation. It also is recommended to secure the cables with electrical tape or insulated tape. Coil the = excess cables, and tie with zip ties to keep neatly away from possible damage. Connecting White-Coded Cable The white-coded cable measures the outside temperature which tells the controller unit when to turn on the misters. The end of this cable should be in the shade and away from the AC Spritzer mist. Use all or part of the Attach Misting System to A/C Unit STEP 12: STEP 13: STEP 14: STEP 15: 6’ length of this cable to accomplish this task. Attach mister T's to A/C unit. Hook the mister T's to the grill of the A/C unit, positioning each T approximately in the center of each coil/grilled side. Make sure that each mister T is located the same distance from the top and bottom of the unit to provide maximum coverage. (If your A/C unit is round, place the T's so they are equal distance apart so the misters cover the majority of the coils.) Attach the mister elbow. The mister elbow is the end of the water flow. Hook the mister elbow to the grill after the third mister T. Cut and attach water tubing to mister T's and elbow. Measure the distance from one T to the next and mark the tubing. Using scissors or cutters, cut the tubing making sure the end is squared. Insert the end of the tubing into each mister T and make sure the tubing is snug. Secure tubing on each side of the T to the grill with a zip tie. Cut off excess tie. Secure the tubing to the grill On either side of the corners by using a Zip tie. You may need to tie the tubing up one grill or down one grill to ensure the T's are held secure to the grill. Cut off any excess tie. Attach tubing from mister T to water valve. Measure the distance from the first mister T to the water valve. Cut the tubing squarely and push one end into the mister T and the other into the water valve. Attach Filter to A/C unit STEP 16: STEP 17: STEP 18: STEP 19: CAUTION: For the following steps you should wear gloves and eye protection as the filters are fiberglass and may cause splinters. Prepare filters for installation. Remove the two filters from the plastic bag and unroll. The green side of the filter goes against the A/C unit and the white side faces outwards. Take one wire form filter holder and thread one end of a filter between the notched side and the moveable wire. Make sure the white side of the filter is towards the notch in the wire form. Then thread the same end of the filter between the moveable wire and the straight side of the wire form. Hold the wire form on the notched side and go to next step. Wrap filter around bottom of A/C unit. NOTE: The following steps are done easiest when unit is running. Starting at the back of the A/C unit, wrap filter around the bottom of the A/C unit coils. Make sure that the coils are completely covered at the bottom of the unit. Attach second wire form to loose end of filter as in previous step. Adjust filter in wire form to length required to cover coll. If you have a large amount of excess filter, you can cut off the excess if desired. Having several inches of extra filter layer will not affect the performance of your AC Spritzer system. Secure filter with straps. Take one strap and feed through notches of the two wire forms and secure. Pull snug to unit so filter does not sag or leave coil unprotected. Wrap second filter around top of A/C unit. Repeat steps 16-18 for the second filter, but wrap the filter around the top of the A/C unit. Make sure the top edge of the filter is level with the top of the A/C unit. Overlap the filter at the top of the bottom filter to ensure the entire grill area is Attach Mister Stems STEP 20: covered. Secure the filter tightly with straps. CAUTION: DO NOT operate AC Spritzer without filters in place to avoid mineral deposits on condenser unit. Insert the mister stems into the mister T's. Locate the mister T through the filter. Cut a small hole in the filter and push filter over the end of the mister T. Insert the mister stem into the mister T. Repeat for all four mister stems. Rotate each mister stem so that the nozzles are pointing up and down for taller A/C units, or horizontally for smaller units, to ensure the maximum misting coverage. Attach Water Source STEP 21: STEP 22: STEP 23: Attach Y splitter to outside water faucet. Your AC Spritzer system comes with a Y splitter for your outdoor faucet. This splitter allows you to have a dedicated water source for your AC Spritzer system and a faucet for your garden hose. Secure the Y splitter to your outdoor faucet. Attach female Water connector to end of Y splitter. Attach the female water connector to the end of the Y splitter closest to your AC Spritzer controller unit. Attach tubing from water source to water valve. Insert one end of the tubing that's remaining into the end of the water connector on your Y splitter. Run the tubing to the water valve. The tubing should run along the ground on the edge of your house. Measure the length of the tubing to the water valve and cut off any excess tubing. Insert the end of STEP 24: the tubing into the water valve. Secure the tubing along the ground by either burying it in the dirt or securing against the side of the house to prevent damage from lawn mowers or weed eaters. NOTE: If the distance from your water faucet to the water valve is further than the remaining tubing, you will need to purchase a longer length of tubing. (The tubing size provided by the AC Spritzer system supports up to 100’ from the water source. If the distance is more than 100’, it is recommended to use a garden hose to reduce water pressure loss.) Turn on water and check for leaks. Turn on the water at the faucet and check the lines to make sure there are no leaks at the faucet or Orbit water valve. Fix any leaks found. 10 i After you have completed the installation procedure, you now are ready to test and program your AC Spritzer. Your controller is easy to program. Because the temperatures vary in different parts of the country, the amount of time your A/C unit runs will also vary. Change Filters CAUTION: Do not operate your AC Spritzer system without filters installed and secured tightly. During the summer months, it is recommended to change the filters around your outside air conditioning unit every 60-90 days, depending on use and water hardness. These filters are intended to keep dirt and mineral deposits away from your A/C condenser unit. Therefore, over time, they will become dirty and may reduce the air flow to your condenser. If you live in an area which causes your A/C to run all year round, you may want to change your filters more often. The following are guidelines: March/April Change the AC Spritzer filters at the same time you are doing your annual A/C maintenance. May-October Change the filters every 60-90 days during the cooling season. NOTE: You may purchase filters online at www.mistecology.com. Change Batteries To change the batteries in your AC Spritzer controller, do the following: STEP 1: Remove the controller from the wall by loosening the mounting screws. STEP 2: Remove the four screws from the back of the controller and remove the back plate. STEP 3: Remove the three (3) AA batteries and replace them with new ones. STEP 4: Replace the back plate of the controller and tighten the screws. STEP 5: Remount the controller on the wall and tighten the mounting screws to secure the unit in place. Prevent Freezing During the winter months, it is recommended to disconnect the AC Spritzer from your water supply. You may either disconnect the tube from the water faucet, or disconnect the tube at the Orbit water controller. NOTE: To prevent dirt from getting into the water supply tube, tape off the end of the tube which is disconnected. 15 Water leaks from the Y water faucet splitter Check to make sure the connection is tight. If you continue to have problems, you may want to replace the Y splitter provided with a brass splitter. Water leaks from the Orbit water controller valve Check to make sure the connections are tight. The misters do not come on Check to make sure the water supply is turned on. Check the battery life on your controller. Check the temperature setting. If the unit is connected to the thermostat power, check the fuses Water drips from one or more of the misters Check to make sure the mister stem is pushed securely in place. The nozzles quit spraying The nozzles will get clogged and quit spraying from time to time. This is caused by the minerals in the water. Brush the nozzles with the stainless steel brush that is included with your system. The nozzles can be removed and soaked in CLR or a similar cleaner, and then put back in the stem. The nozzels don't quit spraying Check controller for spray icon. If it is on they should be spraying. If it is off, push MIST ON/ OFF button once. AC unit shuts off but mister stays on If controller is wired into thermostat wire it could take up to 45 seconds to see the unit is off. If using the sensors on the pipes, it could be up to 3-4 minutes for the sensors to see the unit is off. 16 1 Year Limited Warranty Mist Ecology™ warrants that all non-consumable parts will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for 1 Year from the date of purchase.
