We are really enjoying our new store location and stairless classroom!! If you haven’t been in to see our new digs you should come in for a visit. We are still growing and making changes so you will want to keep checking in to see what we have been up to. We now have buttons!! We recently received our new button rack and we think it is a great new addition to the store. Lot’s of great styles to choose from, maybe something will inspire your next project.

New fabrics are in like our Chalk Cloth, this is such a fun fabric and some pre-cuts like jellyrolls, the Bali Pops will be arriving soon!! We have Michael Miller Jersey Prints that are PUL coated, perfect for diapers, bags, coats etc. etc. these are fun prints and in a wider width 56” rather then 45”!! We have some more Christmas panels coming soon as well. Don’t delay on these the last ones sold out in one day!!!

The Sundrop Girls have put together some great classes for this session we think you are going to enjoy. Also keep an eye out for additional classes and events that we will send out through out the season.We are open to suggestions if there is a class that you would like to have, please drop in or send us an email ([email protected]) and let us know.

It’s fashion show time again! Hard to believe it is here already. Be sure to get your tickets early, space is limited and you don’t want to miss out on this fun evening!! Full details are inside.

We would like to thank the volunteers that have been helping with thw Cancer Caps. This is an on going project for us and we will be setting up some dates for group sewing. But if the classroom isn’t in use and you have some spare time you are welcome to come in and work on the caps. Just give us a call to be sure the classroom is available and we will get you set up!!

The Husqvarna Viking convention is the first week in October and yes it is true there will be embroidery software for

MAC users!! Tru-Embroidery for MAC is being launched and we are all excited. We will have Kerrin Brooks coming in November to show you all the amazing features of this new software!! There are also some new sewing machines being launched that we think you will love as well. So we will be offering some special pricing on some of our current stock. These are in store specials only so you will have to come visit us to get the details.

Heirloom Bolster Pillow

A fun and pretty project that will get your creativity flowing. Explore your decorative stitch menu and learn how to make your own insertion trim. You will work with Hemstitching (Entredeux) with a wing needle, pin tucks, sewing fabric to lace and lace to lace. Even if you’re not into “Heirloom” it is a great class to learn loads of techniques that can be incorporated in to garment construction or homedec sewing.

Want to get a head start on some of your Christmas sewing? We have a great simple Christmas Quilted Table Runner for you to make. Perfect for someone wanting to get into quilting or just a fun project for the avid quilter. Learn some piecing techniques and basic colour placement. Use this class to get further instruction on a Sundrop project that never quite got finished or just as a special evening away from all the distractions at home. Lori will be on hand to ensure you keep learning new ideas and methods. There is no longer any excuse to have a box of

U.F.O.’s (Unfinished Objects!!). This is the perfect class for beginners but there will be plenty of quality instruction for the advanced sewers as well. is coming this October!!

Convention is the first week of October and we will get a first hand look at this new software as well as the new sewing machines that will also be launched.

Altered States

A new series of classes geared for those who are interested in dabbling in fibre arts. Not following the instructions. Using typical and non-typical sewing items in new and innovative ways. The series will run from October to December in 3 week increments.

Altered Zippers

Zippers aren’t just for closing pants, skirts and jackets. In this 3 session class explore some of the creative one of a kind accessories that can be made with zippers. By deconstructing, learning the nature of the beast and further additions and subtractions learn to make chains, necklaces and bracelets using zippers and a few other items. Minimal sewing skills are required.

Better Bags

In this 3 week session explore the possibilities of altering bag patterns and templates, using them as a spring board or suggestion rather than the rule. In Better Bags bring your ideas and imagination, perhaps a favorite bit of fabric, piece of jewelry or a photo or image that will inspire you to create the bag you have always wanted. Whimsical, Steam Punk, Classic or anything in-between there is no wrong, just guidance to help you create the effect you desire within your abilities. Warning: Altering patterns could become habit forming!!

Scarves Shrugs and Ties

In this 3 part session explore simple techniques resulting in amazing effects using both stretch and woven fabrics. After learning the techniques apply them to the accessories of your choice. They may become your favorite seasonal accessory or go to gift ideas.

Digitizer MBX - This is the newest software with lots of amazing new additions which will allow you to create your own designs and change your existing designs, make adjustments, be creative.

Digitizer Junior - This software will get you started and allow you to do some basic creating and changes to your designs.

Artistic Sewing Suite - For those that want to create cutwork designs for the new cutwork needles. Also for those that want to create their own designs. If you have a graphics background you will love this software and it is priced right too.

This would have to be rated as one of the staff picks. All the Sundrop

Girls have purchased one. It makes doing a coverhem/coverstitch so easy because it is always set up and ready to go for that stitch!!!

CANCER CAP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

As some of you are aware Jellybean (my dog) and I volunteer once a week visiting patients at the BC Cancer

Centre in Surrey. Since they know I have a sewing store they asked if I would be able to help with sewing these

Cancer Caps. We all probably know someone that is either had to battle Cancer or is in the process just like one of our Sundrop Girls. Whatever can be done to offer some comfort is always appreciated and these caps are just one of those ways. We have sleep caps that have been requested and then there are a variety of patterns for everyday caps that can be used. If you have a favourite pattern then great you are welcome to use it.

The Vancouver Cancer Centre had a large quantity of fabric donated and has provided us with some of that fabric and I have donated fabric from the store as well. Only fabric that has not been previously used for clothing or other items is allowed. The caps we make will be distributed to centres in the Lower Mainland. We have had a number of volunteers help in the past and we are thankful for that. Cancer Caps can not be re-donated for hygienic reasons so new caps must be constantly made. Unfortunately the need for the caps keeps increasing.

We need people to help cut out the caps as well as sew these caps. So if you have a friend that doesn’t sew bring them along and they can help cut out the caps. We will open up our classroom anytime there isn’t a class going on so it can be used for this purpose. You are welcome to take some caps home to complete and return to Sundrop.

Please be sure to provide us with your name and contact as the Cancer Centre would like to say thank you to everyone that volunteers sewing these caps.

I hope you will be able to spare some time this year to assist with this on going project.

I personally thank all of you that have already offered your time and thank you in advance to those of you that will be able to assist this year.

After taking Lets Get Started Sewing participants will delve into even more basic sewing skills, including: how to read a pattern, pinning and cutting both fabric and tissue, seam allowances, pattern altering, embellishing, and so much more.

Locker or Bedroom Organizer

Imagine that you always knew where your pens, brush rulers, books and other necessities were at all times. Have fun in this 3 session class and create a Hanging/Magnetic Organizer (for your locker or closet) for small items and a large one for books and binders to help you achieve this goal. Also create a magnetic Chalk Board Text Bubble for your locker or fridge.

Men’s Shopping Event

This is our annual event to help the man in your life get you what you want for Christmas!!

We set aside a special time so he can come in and shop at special pricing. We will also offer free wrapping so there isn’t much for him to do.

Want to get started sewing? Here is a good basic class that will start you from the very beginning. Starting with an introduction to the sewing machine, so you know what it does. Learn about the necessary notions for sewing to get you started and measurements. Stitch samples, like a seam, topstitching, understitching etc. By the end of the session you will make a lined zippered bag for holding your notions or other items.

Beginner Sewing 101 - Part 2

This class is a continuation to Beginner Sewing 101 - Part 1. In this class you will take the skills you have learned and make a simple article of clothing like pajama pants. You will learn how to lay out a proper pattern on your fabric, pinning and what the terminology on the pattern is. Then proceed with the steps to sew your garment together!! This class will give you a good foundation on which to grow with your sewing.

Kerrin Brooks - Husqvarna Viking - Saturday November 17

We have a full day booked with Kerrin. She is an educator with Husqvarna Viking and she will be coming for two classes that day. One to show us the new Quilt Design Creator which is a great stand alone program. The other is to show us some of the amazing features of the New Tru - Embroidery

Software. We did not have full details on the classes for this day at the time the newsletter was put together so watch for more details to come via email. Liz Thompson - Janome

What’s new with Janome!! Liz will be coming to see us to show us some new and exciting things with

Janome. We are just in the process of working out the details so stay tuned so you can mark your calendars. For those that may not know Liz she is the educator for Janome for Western Canada and she always has great information and wonderful projects to share. We are changing our clubs and will now include other brands of sewing machines. Your machine must be in working order and you will need to bring your user manual to club. Our clubs have always been hands on and will stay as such, but if you wish to attend and not bring your machine you are welcome to still come and learn.

Because of these changes we will require that you RSVP to the club you wish to attend.

Clubs may be cancelled if we do not receive an RSVP.

There will be two levels of club fees one for members and one for non-members. You receive membership when you purchase your machine from Sundrop Textiles.

SUNDROP CLASSES

At Sundrop we offer quality instruction in a casual atmosphere.

Class size is kept small so register early. Registration must be accompanied by payment. If the minimum enrolment is not reached one week before the class, it will be cancelled for a full refund.

(Keep this in mind when purchasing your supplies). No refunds will be given 14 days (or less) prior to the class, however a friend may accept your space. We love to teach and our courses are created with our customers in mind. For this reason, we REQUEST that all fabrics used in our classes be purchased from Sundrop.

We also REQUIRE that you use one of the brands of patterns

we carry at the store.
