Chassis Replacement Instructions
This document provides the instructions for replacing the Avid VideoRAID ST chassis. The process requires you to remove your SATA hard disk drives from your current chassis and re-install them in the new chassis. Even if you are not currently experiencing any problem
Avid encourages you to replace the chassis at your earliest convenience to avoid a potential problem affecting your data or performance.
You need to return your original VideoRAID ST chassis to Avid using the packaging that came with the replacement chassis. Specific return instructions are included with your replacement chassis, and will vary by location.
Issue Description
Avid learned of a SAS connector tolerance issue with all VideoRAID ST systems shipped prior to September 5, 2008. The problem is sporadic and potentially significant, as it impacts connectivity between the hard disk drives and the SAS cables they connect with, in the
VideoRAID ST. Therefore, Avid has provided you with this warranty exchange of the
VideoRAID ST chassis.
Units That Have Not Been Opened
If your VideoRAID ST has never been set up, remove the chassis from the box (the drives ship uninstalled) and put the replacement chassis in its place. Return the original chassis to
Avid. When you are ready to setup the VideoRAID ST follow the standard instructions include in the Avid VideoRAID ST Setup and User’s Guide .
Replacing the Chassis
When replacing drives in the Avid VideoRAID ST chassis, the positioning of the 5 individual drives is allowed to change. However, drives sets cannot be mixed between
VideoRAID ST chassis. Each drive set of 5, must stay as a complete 5-drive set when moved from one chassis to another.

5. Ensure that you are using the appropriate antistatic precautions.
c
Never touch any exposed electrical connectors or components without using antistatic precautions, as they can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
6. Place the replacement chassis beside the original chassis.
Avid recommends you pull the drives out of the original chassis and insert them into the replacement chassis in one action. Doing this reduces:
Static damage from other surfaces and handing the drive carrier more than once.
Physical damage to components caused by stacking the drives on each other or on hard surfaces.
