INSTALLATION
WARNING
Before installing or removing the air cap/fluid nozzle assembly, ALWAYS turn off the electrostatics to the gun and relieve all pressure in the system. This helps reduce the risk of fire, explosion, or electric shock, which could cause serious bodily injury and
property damage, and reduces the risk of splashing fluid in the eyes or on the skin if the gun is accidentally triggered.
Pressure Relief Procedure
Guns with external power supplies:
1.
2.
3.
Guns with internal power supplies (PRO guns):
Turn off the high voltage power supply.
Turn off the air and fluid supply to the gun.
Trigger the gun into a grounded metal waste container to
relieve fluid pressure.
1.
2.
Turn off the air and fluid supply to the gun.
Trigger the gun into a grounded metal waste container to
relieve fluid pressure.
Part Number 218–998 and 220–906
(See Fig 1)
1. Squeeze the gun trigger (Models PRO4000,
PRO5000, and AS4000 only) and screw the fluid
nozzle (2) into the gun. Torque the fluid nozzle to
1.1–1.4 N.m (10–12 in–lb).
6. Tighten the retaining nut until it is snug, allowing the
air cap to turn with resistance. If too tight, the spray
pattern will be distorted.
2
CAUTION
To avoid bending the electrode, carefully guide the
electrode all the way through the hole in the fluid
nozzle before engaging its threads.

2. Place the spacer (5) on the fluid nozzle (2).
3. Place the diffuser (1) over the spacer (5) and onto the
fluid nozzle (2).
4. Install the air cap (3) over the fluid nozzle (2), being
careful not to bend the electrode.

5. Screw the gun’s retaining nut (Part No. 176–968)
over the air cap (3), onto the spray gun.

CAUTION
To avoid bending the electrode, carefully guide the
electrode all the way through the hole in the fluid
nozzle before engaging its threads.

2. Install air cap (102) over the nozzle assembly (101).
3. Screw the gun’s retaining nut (Part No. 176–387)
over the air cap (102), onto the spray gun, being
careful not to bend the electrode. Tighten the retaining nut until snug.

CLEANING
1. Remove air cap/fluid nozzle assembly from the gun.
WARNING
Before installing or removing the air cap/fluid nozzle assembly, ALWAYS turn off electrostatics to
the gun and relieve all pressure in system by following the Pressure Relief Procedure Warning
on the front cover. This helps reduce the risk of
fire, explosion, or electric shock, which could
cause serious bodily injury and property damage,
and reduces the risk of splashing fluid in the eyes
or on the skin if the gun is accidentally triggered.
2. Wash and soak the fluid nozzle in solvent. Use a soft
bristle brush to clean the air cap, fluid nozzle, and
front of the gun.
CAUTION
NEVER use metal instruments to clean holes in
the air cap and nozzle. Metal instruments can
damage the electrode and holes in the air cap and
fluid nozzle, resulting in distortion of spray pattern.
