Tips & tricks

Air-frying smaller items or fewer items will require a shorter cooking time than larger items or more items.

Shaking items halfway during the cooking time optimizes the end result and can help prevent unevenly fried foods.

Avoid preparing extremely greasy items, such as sausages, in the Air Fryer.

Use a baking pan in the Crisper Drawer to bake a cake or quiche or to fry fragile or filled items.

Ai r f r y

ing h acks!

Soak fresh potatoes in water for 30 minutes prior to frying, then add a small amount of oil for crispier results. Fry potatoes in the Air Fryer within a few minutes of adding the oil.

Snacks that are usually prepared in an oven, like chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks, can also be prepared in the Air Fryer.

Use store-bought dough to prepare filled snacks, such as calzones, quickly and easily.

Items made with store-bought dough require less preparation than homemade dough.

15

Temperature & time chart

Please keep in mind that these temperatures and times are guidelines, not exact specifications. Actual cooking times vary depending on the size, shape, and amount of food.

When air-frying a new item, always make sure food is cooked properly before consumption.

According to the USDA, the safe internal temperature is 165°F for poultry and 160°F for beef.

If food is not cooked properly using these guidelines, add a few minutes to the cooking time and cook food longer.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM

THE AIR FRYER DOES

NOT TURN ON.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The appliance is not plugged in.

SOLUTION

Plug the Air Fryer into a grounded wall socket.

THE FOOD IS NOT

DONE AFTER THE

RECOMMENDED TIME.

Too much food has been added to the Crisper Drawer.

Use less food and cook in batches if necessary. Your food will also cook more evenly.

The temperature was set too low.

Adjust the temperature to the required temperature setting.

(See “Temperature & time chart” on pages 16 to 17.)

THE FOOD IS NOT

DONE AFTER THE

RECOMMENDED

TIME, OR THE FOOD IS

FRIED UNEVENLY IN

THE AIR FRYER.

Certain types of food need to be shaken halfway through the preparation time.

Items that lie on top of or across each other (fries, onion rings, etc.) need to be shaken halfway through the air-frying time. (See

“Temperature & time chart” on pages 16 to 17.)

SNACKS ARE NOT

CRISPY WHEN THEY

COME OUT OF THE AIR

FRYER.

The food was not dry enough or needs more oil.

Make sure to properly dry the food or lightly brush some oil onto the snacks for a crispier result.

I CANNOT SLIDE THE

CRISPER DRAWER

INTO THE APPLIANCE

PROPERLY.

There is too much food in the

Crisper Drawer.

Do not overfill the Crisper Drawer.

PROBLEM

WHITE SMOKE IS

COMING OUT OF

THE APPLIANCE.

Troubleshooting

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Your food is too greasy.

The Crisper Drawer still contains residue from previous use.

SOLUTION

When you fry greasy items in the Air Fryer, a large amount of fat will leak into the Crisper

Drawer. The fat produces white smoke and the Crisper Drawer may heat more than usual. This does not affect the appliance or the end result.

White smoke is caused by grease heating in the Crisper Drawer. Make sure it is cleaned properly after each use.

Food is touching the heating element.

Remove some food from the

Air Fryer.

FRENCH FRIES ARE

FRIED UNEVENLY

IN THE AIR FRYER.

Certain types of food need to be shaken halfway through the air-frying time.

FRENCH FRIES ARE

NOT CRISPY WHEN

THEY COME OUT OF

THE AIR FRYER.

The crispiness of the fries depends on the amount of oil and water in the fries.

Items that lie on top of or across each other

(fries, onion rings, etc.) need to be shaken halfway through the air-frying time. (See

“Temperature & time chart” on pages 16 to 17.)

Make sure you dry the potato sticks properly before you add the oil.

Cut the potato sticks smaller for a crispier result.

Add slightly more oil for a crispier result.

Crunchy broccoli with

Pecorino Romano

3 Ser ves 4

If you haven’t tried cooking broccoli in an air fryer before, you’re in for a real treat—the florets come out perfectly frizzled. A little grated cheese goes on at the beginning and cooks into the veggies; the rest tops the finished dish.

Cooking spray

12 oz broccoli florets (about

6 cups)

¼ cup grated Pecorino Romano, divided

¼ tsp crushed red pepper

(optional)

Pinch of salt

1½ tbsp olive oil

1 tsp grated lemon zest

1. In large bowl, sprinkle broccoli with 2 tbsp Pecorino Romano, crushed red pepper, and salt.

Drizzle in oil and toss well to coat.

2. Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Coat Crisper Tray with cooking spray. Pour broccoli mixture into

Crisper Drawer. Air-fry for 5 minutes. Shake basket to redistribute broccoli. Air-fry for about

5 minutes more or until broccoli is crisp.

3. Arrange broccoli on platter. In a small bowl, combine remaining 2 tbsp Pecorino Romano and lemon zest. Sprinkle broccoli with cheese-lemon mixture.

Hasselback potatoes with herby ranch drizzle

0–4 Ser ves 4

If French fries and a baked potato had a baby...you’d get this recipe. Cutting the potato can be tricky because it’s easy to accidentally slice all the way through. It helps to arrange two butter knives or chopsticks right up against the potato’s sides as a safeguard.

Cooking spray

4 (6-oz) russet potatoes

¼ tsp salt, plus a pinch, divided

¼ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1 tbsp light mayonnaise

1½ tsp chopped fresh parsley

1½ tsp chopped fresh dill

½ small garlic clove, grated

Pinch of black pepper

1. Place potatoes on cutting board or work surface. Starting at one end, cut most (but not all) of the way through each potato at ⅛-inch intervals, so potatoes look like accordions. Carefully and gently fan to slightly separate slices. Coat well with cooking spray.

2. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Arrange potatoes in Crisper Drawer. Air-fry for 20 minutes. Coat potatoes with more cooking spray and sprinkle evenly with ¼ tsp salt. Air-fry until potatoes are crisp on the outside and tender inside, 15 to 20 minutes.

3. Meanwhile, in small bowl, combine 2 tbsp water, yogurt, mayonnaise, parsley, dill, garlic, and pinch each of salt and black pepper. Drizzle sauce over potatoes and serve.

Crispy Brussels sprouts

1 Ser ves 4

If you like the crispiness of roasted Brussels sprouts, you won’t believe what an air fryer can do with them! You get extra-crunchy edges with just a little oil in only 15 minutes.

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved

1 tbsp olive oil

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

1 tsp lemon zest (optional)

Preheat air fryer to 375°F. In medium bowl, combine Brussels sprouts, oil, salt, and black pepper and toss well to coat. Pour coated sprouts into Crisper Drawer and air-fry until crisp-tender, about 15 minutes, pausing to shake and toss after 8 minutes. Sprinkle with lemon zest, if desired.

Parmesan-coated zucchini fries

2–3 Ser ves 4

Zucchini sticks get a crispy coating of breadcrumbs and Parmesan for loads of savory goodness.

Make sure to use plain breadcrumbs; seasoned ones typically have much more sodium and will make these fries taste too salty.

Cooking spray

1 large zucchini (about 12 oz)

¼ cup dry plain breadcrumbs

¼ cup grated Parmesan

½ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

Pinch of salt

1 large egg

¼ cup fat-free marinara sauce, warmed

1. On a cutting board or work surface, cut zucchini crosswise into 3-inch-long chunks. Cut each chunk lengthwise into ½-inch-thick slices, then cut each slice lengthwise into ½-inch strips to form 3 (½-inch) batons.

2. In shallow dish or large zip-top bag, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. In large bowl, lightly beat egg. Add zucchini and toss gently to coat. Remove zucchini from egg, allowing excess to drip off, and toss in breadcrumb mixture to coat.

3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Coat Crisper Tray with cooking spray. In Crisper Drawer, arrange single layer of zucchini batons, leaving a little space between each. Coat zucchini batons with cooking spray. Air-fry until browned and crisp, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from air fryer and keep warm. Repeat process, in batches if necessary, with remaining zucchini. Serve with marinara sauce.

Garlic-thyme mushrooms

2 Ser ves 4

Don’t worry if the basket seems full when the mushrooms first go in; they shrink (and get super flavorful) as they cook. Serve the mushrooms with grilled steak or pork, spoon over sautéed chicken, or pile on a grain bowl.

Cooking spray

1 lb cremini mushrooms

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp tamari or soy sauce

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

2 tsp chopped fresh thyme, divided

1. On cutting board or work surface, cut mushrooms in half or in quarters if large. In large bowl, combine oil, garlic powder, tamari, salt, and black pepper. Add mushrooms and toss to coat.

2. Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Coat Crisper Tray with cooking spray. Add mushroom mixture. Air-fry for 8 minutes. Remove Crisper Drawer and sprinkle mushrooms with 1 tsp thyme; shake basket to toss mushrooms. Air-fry until mushrooms are lightly browned and tender, about 7 minutes.

Potato-crusted fish fillets

2–5 Ser ves 4

Mild, family-friendly tilapia fillets are slathered with herbed mayonnaise, dredged in instant potato flakes, and air fried until crispy on the outside and perfectly flaky and moist inside. Be sure to choose fillets no larger than six ounces each; any larger, and you’ll probably be unable to fit two in the air fryer together.

Cooking spray

¼ cup light mayonnaise

1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

1 tbsp chopped fresh dill

½ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

4 (6-oz) tilapia fillets

¾ cup dry potato flakes

1. In small bowl, combine mayonnaise, parsley, dill, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Pat tilapia fillets dry with paper towels. Pour potato flakes into pie pan or rimmed plate.

2. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spread 2 fillets with 1 tbsp mayonnaise mixture each; dredge fillets in potato flakes, pressing gently to adhere.

3. Spray air fryer with cooking spray. Arrange 2 coated fillets in Crisper Drawer and spray fillets with cooking spray. Air-fry until breading is crisp and fish is cooked through, about

10 minutes. Remove from air fryer and loosely cover with foil to keep warm. Repeat process with remaining mayonnaise mixture, fillets, and potato flakes.

Coconut shrimp with mango dipping sauce

3–5 Ser ves 6

The coconut-panko breading gets impressively crunchy on these shrimp. Serve them as an appetizer or a snack, or double the portion size to turn them into a main dish.

Cooking spray

1 medium mango, pitted, peeled, and cubed, divided

2 tbsp lime juice

1 tsp grated peeled fresh ginger

1 tsp salt, divided

1½ tbsp chopped fresh mint leaves

1 medium jalapeño pepper or red

Fresno chile, seeded and minced

3 tbsp cornstarch or all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

⅓ cup unsweetened coconut flakes

⅓ cup panko breadcrumbs

18 extra-large shrimp (about 1 lb), peeled and deveined, tail shells intact

Lime wedges, for serving

1. To make dipping sauce: In blender, combine half of mango cubes with lime juice, ginger, and

¼ tsp salt and process until smooth. Pour into small bowl. Dice remaining mango. Add to purée along with mint, black pepper, and enough water to give mixture a saucy consistency.

32

2. On sheet plate, spread cornstarch. In large shallow bowl, beat eggs. On another plate, mix together coconut, breadcrumbs, and remaining ¾ tsp salt.

3. Over cutting board or work surface, set a wire rack. Dredge shrimp in cornstarch, shaking off excess, then dip into egg, allowing excess to drip off. Press shrimp into coconut mixture until evenly coated on both sides. Place on wire rack. Spray shrimp all over with cooking spray.

4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Lightly spray Crisper Tray with cooking spray. In Crisper Drawer, arrange 9 shrimp in a single layer. Air-fry until shrimp are golden and crispy, 5 to 6 minutes.

Remove from air fryer and loosely cover with foil to keep warm. Repeat process with remaining shrimp. Serve with mango sauce and lime wedges.

Chicken Parmesan sandwiches

6–9 Ser ves 4

Tender chicken breasts are coated with crisp Italian-style bread crumbs, covered with a blanket of tomato sauce, and topped with creamy, gooey mozzarella—all in a lighter format. Thanks to the air fryer, our rendition of chicken Parmesan is as quick and healthy as it is tasty.

Cooking spray

4 tsp red wine vinegar

1 tbsp olive oil

1 large garlic clove, crushed with a garlic press

½ tsp salt (or to taste)

¼ tsp black pepper

¼ tsp dried oregano

6 tbsp Italian-style seasoned breadcrumbs

4 (¼-lb) skinless boneless chicken breast cutlets

½ cup store-bought marinara sauce, divided

¼ cup shredded part-skim mozzarella, divided

¼ cup grated Parmesan, divided

½ cup lightly packed baby arugula

4 (1-oz) slices country-style whole-wheat bread, lightly toasted

Pinch of crushed red pepper (optional)

1. In large shallow bowl, whisk vinegar, oil, garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and 1 tbsp water.

Parmesan.

4. Air-fry until chicken is cooked through (an internal temperature of 165°), crisp, and mozzarella is melted, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from air fryer and loosely cover with foil to keep warm. Repeat process with remaining chicken, marinara, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Cherry pie egg rolls

3–4 Ser ves 4

Egg roll wrappers cook up nice and crispy in the air fryer. Be sure to line the bottom of the fryer basket in case any filling leaks out. And resist the urge to bite into one as soon as it’s done— the filling will be molten-hot! Serve warm or at room temperature.

Cooking spray

2 cups frozen unsweetened dark cherries

1½ tbsp sugar

2½ tsp cornstarch

4 egg roll wrappers

1 tsp powdered sugar

1. In medium microwave-safe bowl, toss cherries with sugar and cornstarch. Microwave on High until bubbly and thick, about 4 minutes. Stir well. Place bowl in freezer for 10 minutes to cool mixture.

2. On flat work surface, place 1 egg roll wrapper with the corners set vertically (pointing up and down like a diamond shape). Moisten all edges with water. Spoon about ¼ scant cup of filling horizontally across center of wrapper. Fold bottom corner of wrapper to center, over filling.

Roll up once to fully cover filling. Fold in left and right sides of wrapper to seal any loose ends, and roll up. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Line Crisper Tray with nonstick foil or parchment paper. In Crisper

Drawer, arrange egg rolls, seam side down, and coat generously with cooking spray. Air-fry until tops are browned, 5 to 6 minutes. Turn egg rolls over and coat with cooking spray. Airfry until browned, 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer to plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
