Advice on operation Select the air distribution most suited to your requirements and the climatic conditions. Gradually adjust the temperature setting for your comfort. Position the air control in the ''Outside Air'' position. For perfectly even air distribution, take care not to obstruct the exterior air intake grille and the vents. Check that the passenger compartment filter is in good condition. When the engine is cold, to prevent too great a distribution of cold air, the ventilation will increase to its optimum level gradually. In order to be effective, the air conditioning (A/C button), should only be used with the windows closed. If the interior temperature remains very high following a prolonged period parked in the sun, do not hesitate to ventilate the passenger compartment for a few minutes. The air conditioning system does not contain chlorine and does not present any danger to the ozone layer. Operate the air conditioning system for 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice a month, to keep it in perfect working order. The water created by the air conditioning condensation is discharged via an opening provided for this purpose. Therefore, a puddle of water may form underneath the vehicle when stationary. If the system does not produce cold air, do not use it and contact a CITROËN dealer. De-icing the rear windows and mirrors With the engine running, pressing the control de-ices the rear windows and mirrors. It switches off automatically after approximately twelve minutes. U Seat suitable for the installation of a child seat secured using a seat belt and universally approved, "rear facing" and/or "forward facing". SEATS - 39 "ISOFIX" MOUNTINGS Your vehicle has been approved in accordance with the ISOFIX regulation. The seats, represented below, are fitted with regulation ISOFIX mountings: These are two rings located between the seat back and the seat cushion. This ISOFIX mounting system guarantees reliable, safe and fast fitting of the child seat in your vehicle. The ISOFIX child seats are fitted with two locks which are secured easily on these rings. 40 - SEATS ISOFIX CHILD SEAT RECOMMENDED BY CITROËN AND APPROVED FOR YOUR VEHICLE Isofix KIDDY Group 0+: from birth to 13 kg Group 1: from 9 to 18 kg Installed in the rear facing position, on the rear side seat only. Installed in the forwards facing position. The body of this child seat must be in contact with the back of the vehicle's front seat. This child seat can also be used on seats which are not fitted with ISOFIX mountings. It is imperative that the vehicle's front seat is adjusted to the intermediate longitudinal position. In this case, it is compulsory to secure the child seat to the vehicle's seat using the three-point seat belt. Follow the instructions for fitting the child seat indicated in the seat manufacturer's installation guide. SEATS - 41 ADVICE ON CHILD SEATS The incorrect installation of a child seat in a vehicle compromises the child's protection in the event of an accident. Remember to fasten the seat belts or the child seat harnesses keeping the slack in relation to the child's body to a minimum, even for short journeys. For optimum installation of the "forward facing" child seat, ensure that the back of the child seat is in contact with the back of the vehicle's seat and that the head restraint does not cause any discomfort. If the head restraint has to be removed, ensure that it is stored or attached securely to prevent it from being thrown around the vehicle in the event of sharp braking. Children under the age of 10 must not travel in the "forward facing" position on the front passenger seat, unless the rear seats are already occupied by other children, cannot be used or are absent. Disarm the passenger airbag when a "rear facing" child seat is installed on the front seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being seriously injured or killed if the airbag were to inflate. Installing a booster seat The chest part of the seat belt must be positioned on the child's shoulder without touching the neck. Ensure that the lap part of the seat belt passes correctly over the child's thighs. CITROËN recommends the use of a booster seat which has a back, fitted with a seat belt guide at shoulder level. As a safety precaution, do not leave: - one or more children alone and unsupervised in a vehicle, - a child or an animal in a vehicle which is exposed to the sun, with the windows closed, - the keys within reach of children inside the vehicle. To prevent accidental opening of the doors, use the "Child lock". Take care not to open the rear windows by more than one third. To protect young children from the rays of the sun, fit side blinds on the rear windows. 42 - SEATS Locking the seat belts Pull the strap, then insert the end into the buckle. Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap. Unfastening the seat belts Press the button on the buckle. SEAT BELTS Seat belt height adjustment To lower or raise: slide the control downwards or upwards. Front seat belts with pretensioner Safety in the event of frontal impacts has been improved by the introduction of pre-tensioning seat belts for the front seats. Depending on the seriousness of the impact, the pre-tensioning system instantly tightens the seat belts and pulls them against the bodies of the occupants. The pre-tensioning seat belts are armed when the ignition is on. Rear seat belts (5 seat version) The rear seats are fitted with three three-point inertia reel seat belts (two-part rear seat, 1/3 - 2/3). SEATS - 43 The driver must ensure that the passengers use the seat belts correctly and that they are all properly restrained before setting off. Wherever you are seated in the vehicle, always fasten your seat belt, even for short journeys. Do not invert the seat belt buckles as they will not fulfil their role fully. If the seats have armrests*, the lap part of the seat belt must always pass under the armrest. The seat belts are fitted with an inertia reel permitting automatic adjustment of the length of the strap to your size. The seat belt is stored automatically when not in use. Before and after use, ensure that the seat belt is reeled in correctly. The lower part of the strap must be positioned as low as possible on the pelvis. The upper part must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder. The inertia reels are fitted with an automatic locking device which comes into operation in the event of a collision, on emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls over. You can release the device by pulling rapidly on the strap and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt: - must be tightened as close to the body as possible, - must restrain one adult only, - must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying, - must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that it does not twist, - must not be transformed or modified to avoid altering its performance. In accordance with current safety regulations, all repairs and checks must be carried out by a CITROËN dealer who guarantees that the work is carried out correctly. Have your seat belts checked regularly by a CITROËN dealer and particularly if the straps show signs of damage. Clean the seat belt straps with soapy water or a textile cleaning product, sold by CITROËN dealers. Recommendations for children: - use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less than 12 years old or shorter than one metre fifty, - do not use the strap-guide* when a child seat is installed. - never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person, - never allow a child to travel on your lap. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the impacts, the pre-tensioning device may be triggered before and independently of the airbags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners is accompanied by a slight emission of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the system. In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comes on. Following an impact, have the seat belts system checked, and if necessary replaced, by a CITROËN dealer. After folding or moving a seat or rear bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned and rolled up correctly. * According to model. 44 - ACCESS and STARTING KEYS Remote control The keys allow you to switch on the ignition and operate the passenger airbag disarming switch as well as to independently operate the locks on the doors and the fuel filler cap. Locking Press button A to lock the vehicle. This is confirmed by fixed lighting of the direction indicators for approximately two seconds. Central locking From the front doors, the keys allow you to lock and unlock the doors and tailgate. If one of the doors or the tailgate is open, the central locking does not work. The remote control performs the same functions at a distance. Unlocking Press button B to unlock the vehicle. This is confirmed by rapid flashing of the direction indicators. Note: if the vehicle is locked and unlocking is activated inadvertently, unless the doors are opened within 30 seconds, the vehicle will lock automatically. Locating your vehicle To locate your vehicle, if you have locked it, in a car park: ) press button A, the courtesy lamps come on and the direction indicators flash for a few seconds. Changing the battery of the remote control CR 2016/3 volt battery. The information "battery flat" is given by an audible signal accompanied by the message "Remote control battery flat" on the screen. To change the battery, unclip the casing using a coin at the ring. If the remote control does not work after the battery has been changed, re-programme the remote control. Reinitialising the remote control ) Switch off the ignition. ) Switch the ignition on again. ) Press button A immediately for a few seconds. ) Switch off the ignition and remove the remote control key from the ignition lock. The remote control is now working again. ACCESS and STARTING - 45 ELECTRONIC ENGINE IMMOBILISER This locks the engine control system as soon as the ignition has been switched off and therefore prevents starting of the vehicle by anyone who does not have the key. The ignition key has an electronic chip which has a special code. When the ignition is switched on, the code must be recognised for the vehicle to start. If the system does not function correctly, the central locking button indicator light, situated in the centre of the fascia, flashes rapidly when the ignition is switched on (2nd notch), accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the display. In this case your vehicle will not start. Contact a CITROËN dealer as soon as possible. Key in ignition A buzzer sounds on opening the driver's door, if the key has been left in the ignition. Make a careful note of the number of each key. This number is coded on the label attached to the key. The high frequency remote control is a sensitive system; do not operate it while it is in your pocket as there is a possibility that it may unlock the vehicle, without you being aware of it. The remote control does not operate when the key is in the ignition, even when the ignition is switched off, except for reprogramming. Do not operate the deadlocking function if there is anyone inside the vehicle. Driving with the doors locked may make access to the passenger compartment by the emergency services more difficult in an emergency. As a safety precaution (with children on board), remove the key from the ignition when you leave the vehicle, even for a short time. Do not repeatedly press the buttons of your remote control out of range of your vehicle. You run the risk of stopping it from working and the remote control would have to be reprogrammed. When purchasing a second-hand vehicle, have the key codes memorised by a CITROËN dealer, to ensure that the keys in your possession are the only ones which can start the vehicle. Do not make any modifications to the electronic engine immobiliser system. If the keys are lost Visit a CITROËN dealer with the vehicle’s V5 registration certificate and your personal identification documents. The CITROËN network will be able to retrieve the key code and the transponder code to order a replacement key. A heavy object (key fob...), attached to the key and weighing down on its shaft in the ignition switch, could cause a malfunction. 46 - ACCESS and STARTING When the alarm is triggered, the siren sounds and the direction indicators flash for thirty seconds. After it has been triggered, the alarm becomes operational again. Note: if you wish to lock your vehicle without setting the alarm, lock it using the key in the door lock. THE ALARM SYSTEM* The alarm offers two types of protection: - exterior protection: the alarm sounds if a door, the boot or the bonnet is opened; - interior protection: the alarm sounds if there is a variation in the volume inside the vehicle (breaking of a window or movement inside the vehicle). Setting the alarm Switch the ignition off and get out of the vehicle. Activate the alarm within five minutes following your exit from the vehicle, by locking using the remote control key (the red indicator lamp in the switch 1, which can be seen from the outside, flashes once a second). Warning If, on setting the alarm, a door, the boot or the bonnet are not closed correctly, the siren sounds for a moment. Close the vehicle correctly to set the alarm. If the interior protection alarm is triggered ten times in succession, it is disarmed automatically. It must be set again in order for it to operate correctly. Disarming the alarm Unlock the vehicle using the remote control key (the red indicator lam in the switch 1 goes off). Note: if the warning light flashes, it is a sign that the alarm has been triggered in your absence. To stop it, switch on the ignition. * According to country. Note: when the alarm is set, but the remote control no longer works: ) unlock the doors using the key and open the door; the alarm is triggered; ) switch the ignition on within ten seconds; the alarm is disarmed. To set the alarm with exterior protection only. The limiter is deactivated temporarily and the programmed speed which is still displayed flashes. Switching the function off ) Place dial in position 0 or switch off the ignition to switch the system off. The last programmed speed remains in the memory. To return to the limiter function, reduce your speed to the programmed speed or below. Flashing of the speed The speed flashes: - following forcing of the accelerator point of resistance, - when the limiter cannot prevent an increase in the vehicle speed due to the profile of the road or on a steep descent, - in the event of sharp acceleration. Operating fault In the event of a limiter malfunction, a message is displayed on the multifunction display accompanied by an audible signal. The programmed speed is cleared and the dashes flash for a few seconds. Contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. In any event, the speed limiter cannot replace the need to observe speed limits, nor can it replace the need for vigilance and responsibility on the part of the driver. The driver must always pay attention to the profile of the road, take care on sharp acceleration and remain in perfect control of his vehicle. To prevent the mat from becoming trapped under the pedals: - ensure that the mat and its fixings are positioned correctly, - never fit one mat on top of another. DRIVING - 65 The status of the function is displayed on the instrument panel in accordance with the following sequences: Function selected, displaying of the "Cruise Control" symbol. Function deactivated, OFF (example at 66 mph (107 km/h)). CRUISE CONTROL* The cruise control maintains a constant vehicle speed programmed by the driver. In order for it to be programmed or activated, the vehicle speed must be greater than 25 mph (40 km/h) with at least fourth gear engaged. If the vehicle is fitted with a speed limiter and cruise control, these functions cannot be activated at the same time. The cruise control has a display on the instrument panel to indicate the programmed reference speed. * According to version. Function activated (example at 66 mph (107 km/h)). First activation/programming a speed ) Reach the chosen speed by pressing the accelerator. ) Press the SET - or SET + button. Operating fault In the event of a cruise control malfunction, a message is displayed on the multifunction display accompanied by an audible signal. The programmed speed is cleared and the dashes flash for a few seconds. Contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. When changing the programmed reference speed by means of a maintained press, pay attention as the speed can increase or decrease rapidly. Do not use the cruise control on slippery roads or in heavy traffic. In the event of a steep slope, the cruise control cannot prevent the vehicle from exceeding the programmed speed. In any event, the cruise control cannot replace the need to observe the speed limits, nor can it replace the need for vigilance and responsibility on the part of the driver. It is advisable to leave your feet near the pedals. To prevent the mat from becoming trapped under the pedals: - ensure that the mat and its fixings are positioned correctly, - never fit one mat on top of another. DRIVING - 67 The airbags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupants in the event of serious collisions. They work in conjunction with the force-limiting seat belts. The electronic detectors register and analyse any abrupt deceleration of the vehicle in the impact detection zones (see diagram): if the triggering threshold is reached, the airbags inflate instantly and protect the occupants of the vehicle. Immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so that they do not hinder the visibility of the occupants nor their exit if necessary from the vehicle. The airbags are not deployed in the case of minor impacts, rear impacts or in certain roll-over conditions. The seat belt is sufficient to ensure maximum protection in these situations. The seriousness of a collision depends on the nature of the obstacle and the speed of the vehicle at the moment of the collision. Airbags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note: the gas escaping from the airbags can be a minor irritant. Impact detection zones A. Front impact zone. B. Side impact zone. FRONT AIRBAGS These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in the fascia for the front passenger. They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the passenger airbag is disarmed, in the event of a serious front impact applied in the impact zone A in the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle, on a horizontal plane and from the front of the vehicle towards the rear. The airbag inflates between the front occupant of the vehicle and the fascia to cushion his forward movement. The airbags therefore limit the risk of injury to the head and chest. 68 - DRIVING Front airbag malfunction The airbag warning light on the instrument panel is lit throughout the period of disarming. In the "OFF" position, the passenger airbag will not be triggered in the event of an impact. As soon as the child seat is removed, turn the airbag slot to the "ON" position to re-activate the airbag and thus ensure the safety of your passenger in the event of an impact. If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal, contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer be triggered in the event of a serious impact. Disarming the passenger airbag To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the passenger airbag when you install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being killed or seriously injured if the airbag were to inflate. ) With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passenger airbag disarming switch 1, turn it to the "OFF" position, then remove the key keeping the slot in this position. Disarming check This is confirmed by an indicator light, accompanied by a message on the display. With the ignition on (2nd notch), illumination of this warning light indicates that the passenger airbag is disarmed (switch in the "OFF" position). If the two airbag warning lights are lit continuously, do not install a rear-facing child seat. Consult a CITROËN dealer. DRIVING - 69 Airbags malfunction SIDE AIRBAGS* The side airbags are incorporated into the front seat backs on the door side. The triggering of these airbags requires a serious side impact applied in the side impact zone B, perpendicular to the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle, on a horizontal plane and from the outside of the vehicle towards the inside. The side airbag inflates between the front occupant of the vehicle and the door trim pad. It therefore limits the risk of injury to the chest. If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal, contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer be triggered in the event of a serious impact. For the front and lateral airbags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules: ● ● ● ● ● * According to version. Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt. Sit in a normal upright position. Do not leave anything between the occupants and the airbags (child, animal, object, ...). This could hamper the operation of the airbags or injure the occupants. All work on the airbag systems is strictly prohibited unless it is carried out by trained staff of the CITROËN network. After an accident or if the vehicle has been stolen or broken into, have the airbag systems checked. Front airbags ● Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre part of the wheel. ● Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard. ● Smoke as little as possible; deployment of the airbags can cause burns or the risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe. ● Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently. Lateral airbags* ● Only put approved covers on the front seats. Consult a CITROËN dealer. ● Do not fix or attach anything to the front seat backs. This could cause injury to the chest or arms when the lateral airbag inflates. ● Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than necessary. 70 - PRACTICAL INFORMATION 1.4 LITRE PETROL ENGINE 1. The strength of the partnership between TOTAL and CITROËN is demonstrated in particular through motor sport: from the 1969 Morocco Rally to the superb double victory for TEAM CITROËN TOTAL and Sébastien LOEB and Daniel ELENA in the 2009 World Rally Championship. The impressive list of awards for the two marques has been built up through epic battles, fought in extreme conditions. These trials permit arduous testing of the TOTAL lubricants, assuring the performance of CITROËN vehicles. PRACTICAL INFORMATION - 75 CHECKING THE LEVELS Oil level ) Check the level regularly and top up between changes. The maximum consumption is 0.5 l per 600 miles (1 000 km). Check the level with the vehicle level, engine cold, using the oil level gauge on the instrument panel or the dipstick. Dipstick There are two marks on the dipstick: A = maximum Never fill past this mark. B = minimum To maintain the reliability of engines and emission control systems, the use of additives in engine oil is prohibited. Oil change According to the information given in the servicing booklet. Note: avoid used oil coming into prolonged contact with the skin. Empty the used oil into the containers intended for this purpose in the CITROËN network. Viscosity selection In all cases, the oil selected must meet the manufacturer's requirements. Brake fluid level: The brake fluid must be changed according to the manufacturer's servicing schedule. Use fluids recommended by the manufacturer, which fulfil DOT4 standards. Note: brake fluid is harmful to health and very corrosive. Avoid all contact with the skin. Note: the coolant does not need to be changed. For vehicles equipped with a particle filter, the engine fan may operate after the ignition has been switched off, even when the engine is cold. Used oil Do not dispose of used oil, brake fluid or coolant into drains or onto the ground. Power steering reservoir Cooling system Use the fluid recommended by the manufacturer. When the engine is warm, the temperature of the coolant is controlled by the engine fan. As this fan can operate with the ignition key removed and because the cooling system is pressurised, wait for at least one hour after the engine has stopped before carrying out any work. Slacken the cap by two turns to release the pressure to prevent any risk of scalding. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level. ) Open the reservoir, with the engine at ambient temperature. The level should always be above the MIN. mark and close to the MAX. mark. Windscreen and headlamp wash level For best quality cleaning and for your safety, we would advise that you use products recommended by CITROËN. For optimum cleaning and to prevent freezing, this fluid must not be topped up or replaced with water. 76 - PRACTICAL INFORMATION CHECKS Oil filter Battery Change the filter regularly, in accordance with the servicing schedule. At the start of winter, have your battery checked by a CITROËN dealer. Air filter and passenger compartment filter Have the filter elements replaced regularly. If you drive in dusty conditions, change them twice as often. Brake pads Brake pad wear depends on the style of driving, in particular for vehicles which are used in town, over short distances. It may be necessary to check the thickness of the pads, even between services. Disc and drum wear status For any information relating to checking the disc and drum wear status, contact a CITROËN dealer. Handbrake Where the handbrake travel is too great or there is a reduction in the performance of the system, the handbrake should be adjusted, even between services. Have the system checked by a CITROËN dealer. Manual gearbox This does not require an oil change. Check the level in accordance with the manufacturer's servicing schedule. To check the main levels and certain components, in accordance with the manufacturer's servicing schedule, refer to the pages of the servicing booklet which correspond to your vehicle's engine. RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL) If you should run out of fuel, it is necessary to re-prime the circuit: - fill the fuel tank with at least five litres of diesel, - squeeze and release the manual re-priming pump, under the bonnet under the protective cover, until fuel appears in the transparent pipe, - operate the starter until the engine starts. FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF (PETROL) Only use products recommended by CITROËN or products of equivalent quality and specifications. To ensure best performance from components as important as the power steering and the braking system, CITROËN selects and offers quite specific products. To prevent damage to the electrical units, avoid washing the engine. In a serious collision, a mechanism prevents fuel from reaching the engine. To re-establish the fuel supply, press the switch on the corner of the front right-hand suspension assembly, under the bonnet. When towing another vehicle, it must freewheel. Place the gearbox in "neutral". Failure to observe this instruction may result in damage to certain braking components and the absence of braking assistance when the engine is started again. TOWING YOUR VEHICLE Without lifting (four wheels on the ground) You must always use a towbar. From the front or the rear Attach the towbar to the towing eye. By lifting (two wheels only on the ground) It is preferable to lift the vehicle by the wheels. 94 - PRACTICAL INFORMATION TOWING A TRAILER, CARAVAN, BOAT, ETC. Driving advice We recommend the use of original CITROËN towbars and their harnesses that have been tested and approved from the design stage of your vehicle and that the fitting of the towbar is entrusted to a CITROËN dealer. If the towbar is not fitted by a CITROËN dealer, it is imperative that it is fitted using the electrical preequipment installed at the rear of the vehicle, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Your vehicle is primarily designed for transporting people and luggage but it may also be used for towing a trailer. Driving with a trailer subjects the towing vehicle to more significant stress and its driver must be particularly careful. Air density decreases with altitude, thus reducing engine performance. Above 1 000 metres, the maximum towing load must be reduced by 10 % and so on for every 1 000 metres of altitude. Distribution of loads: Distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviest items are as close as possible to the axle and the nose weight approaches the maximum permitted without exceeding it. Cooling: Towing a trailer on a slope increases the temperature of the coolant. As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependent on the engine speed. On the contrary, use a high gear to lower the engine speed and reduce your speed. The maximum towing load on a long slope depends on the gradient and the outside temperature. In all cases, pay attention to the coolant temperature. In certain cases of particularly arduous use (towing the maximum load on a steep gradient in high temperatures), switching off the air conditioning permits the recovery of engine power and therefore an increase in the towing capacity. If the warning light comes on, stop the vehicle and switch off the engine as soon as possible. Tyres: Check the tyre pressures of the towing vehicle and of the trailer, observing the recommended pressures. Braking: Towing increases the braking distance. Lights: Check the electrical signalling on the trailer. Side wind: Take into account the increased sensitivity to side wind. This is a normal effect of the way in which radio waves are transmitted and does not indicate any failure of the audio system. RADIO RDS SELECTING A STATION 1 2 3 4 Press the SOURCE button several times in succession and select the radio. Press the BAND AST button to select a waveband: FM1, FM2, FMast, AM. Briefly press one of the buttons to carry out an automatic search of the radio stations. Press one of the buttons to carry out a manual search of the radio stations. 1 Press the MENU button. 2 Select RADIO-CD then press OK. 3 Select RDS then press OK. RDS appears on the screen. The RDS, if displayed, enables you to continue listening to the same station by automatic retuning to alternative fequencies. However, in certain conditions, coverage of an RDS station may not be assured throughout the country as radio stations do not cover 100 % of the territory. This explains the loss of reception of the station during a journey. Press the LIST REFRESH button to display the list of stations received locally (30 stations maximum). To update this list, press for more than two seconds. 113 04 AUDIO RECEIVING TA MESSAGES CD PLAYING A CD The TA (Traffic Announcement) function gives priority to TA alert messages. To operate, this function needs good reception of a radio station transmitting this type of message. When a traffic report is transmitted, the current audio source (Radio, CD, ...) is interrupted automatically to play the TA message. Normal playback of the audio source resumes at the end of the transmission of the message. Insert circular compact discs only. Some anti-pirating systems, on original discs or CDs copied using a personal recorder, may cause faults which are no reflection on the quality of the original player. Without pressing the EJECT button, insert a CD in the player, play begins automatically. 1 Press the TA button to activate or deactivate traffic messages. To play a disc which has already been inserted, press the SOURCE button several times in succession and select CD. 2 Press one of the buttons to select a track on the CD. Press the LIST REFRESH button to display the list of tracks on the CD. 3 Press and hold one of the buttons for fast forward or backward. 114 04 AUDIO MP3 CD PLAYING AN MP3 COMPILATION Insert an MP3 compilation in the player. The audio equipment searches for all of the music tracks, which may take anything between a few seconds and several tens of seconds, before play begins. On a single disc, the CD player can read up to 255 MP3 files spread over 8 folder levels. However, it is advisable to keep to a limit of two levels to reduce the access time before the CD is played. While the CD is being played, the folder structure is not followed. All of the files are displayed on a single level. 1 To play a disc which has already been inserted, press the SOURCE button several times in succession and select CD. 2 Press one of the buttons to select a track on the CD. Press the LIST REFRESH button to display the list of directories of the MP3 compilation. 3 Press and hold one of the buttons for fast forward or backward play. MP3 CD INFORMATION AND ADVICE The MP3 format, an abbreviation of MPEG 1.2 & 2.5 Audio Layer 3, is an audio compression standard which permits the recording of several tens of music files on a single disc. In order to be able to play a recorded CDR or CDRW, when recording, the ISO 9660 level 1.2 or Joliet file format is recommended. If the disc is recorded in another format, it may not be played correctly. It is recommended that the same recording format is always used for an individual disc, with as low a speed as possible (4x maximum) for optimum sound quality. In the particular case of a multi-session CD, the Joliet format is recommended. The audio system will only play files with the extension ".mp3" with a sampling rate of 22.05 KHz or 44.1 KHz. No other type of file (.wma, .mp4, .m3u...) can be played. It is advisable to restrict file names to 20 characters without using special characters (e.g. " ? ; ù) to avoid any playing or displaying problems. Empty CDs are not recognised and may damage the system. 115 05 CONFIGURATION SETTING THE DATE AND TIME 1 5 Press the MENU button. 2 Press to confirm the selection. 6 Using the arrows, select DISPLAY CONGIGURATION. 3 Adjust the setting. 7 Press to confirm the selection. For optimum sound quality, the audio settings (Volume, Bass, Treble, Ambience, Loudness) can be adapted to the different sound sources, which may result in audible differences when changing source (radio, CD...). Check that the audio settings (Volume, Bass, Treble, Ambience, Loudness) are adapted to the sources listened to. It is advisable to set the AUDIO functions (Bass, Treble, Front-Rear Balance, Left-Right Balance) to the middle position, select the musical ambience "None" and set the loudness correction to the "Active" position in CD mode or to the "Inactive" position in radio mode. The CD is ejected automatically or is not played by the player. The CD is inserted upside down, is unplayable, does not contain any audio data or contains an audio format which the player cannot play. The CD is protected by an anti-pirating protection system which is not recognised by the audio equipment. - The CD player sound is poor. Check that the CD is inserted in the player the right way up. Check the condition of the CD: the CD cannot be played if it is too damaged. Check the content in the case of a recorded CD: consult the advice in the "Audio" section. The audio equipment's CD player does not play DVDs. Due to their quality level, certain writeable CDs will not be played by the audio system. The CD used is scratched or of poor quality. Insert good quality CDs and store them in suitable conditions. The audio equipment settings (bass, treble, ambiences) are unsuitable. Set the treble or bass level to 0, without selecting an ambience. 119 QUESTION ANSWER SOLUTION The stored stations do not function (no sound, 87.5 Mhz is displayed...). An incorrect waveband is selected. Press the BAND AST button to return to the waveband (AM, FM1, FM2, FMAST) on which the stations are stored. The traffic announcement (TA) is displayed. I do not receive any traffic information. The radio station is not part of the regional traffic information network. Tune to a radio station which broadcasts traffic information. The quality of reception of the radio station listened to gradually deteriorates or the stored stations do not function (no sound, 87.5 Mhz is displayed...). The vehicle is too far from the transmitter used by the station listened to or there is no transmitter in the geographical area through which the vehicle is travelling. Activate the RDS function to enable the system to check whether there is a more powerful transmitter in the geographical area. The environment (hills, buildings, tunnels, basement car parks...) block reception, including in RDS mode. This phenomenon is normal and does not indicate a failure of the audio equipment. The aerial is absent or has been damaged (for example when going through a car wash or into an underground car park). Have the aerial checked by a CITROËN dealer. Sound cut-outs of 1 to 2 seconds in radio mode. During this brief sound cut-out, the RDS searches for any frequency permitting better reception of the station. Deactivate the RDS function if the phenomenon is too frequent and always on the same route. With the engine off, the audio equipment switches off after a few minutes of use. When the engine is switched off, the audio equipment operating time depends on the battery charge. The switch-off is normal: the audio equipment switches to economy mode and switches off to prevent discharging of the vehicle's battery. Start the vehicle's engine to increase the battery charge. The message "the audio system is overheated" appears on the display. In order to protect the installation if the surrounding temperature is too high, the audio equipment switches to an automatic thermal protection mode leading to a reduction of the volume or stopping of the playing of the CD. Switch the audio system off for a few minutes to allow the system to cool. 120 VISUAL INDEX - 121 EXTERIOR Accessories ................................ 95 Key, starting, battery ..........6, 44-45 Central locking ................ 44, 47, 48 Door mirrors................................ 55 Rear lamps ................................. 84 3rd brake lamp............................ 85 Snow screen ............................... 92 Spare wheel, jack, changing, fitting ...................................77-78 Inflating ..................................... 108 Front lamps......................52, 80-83 Foglamps .............................. 52, 84 Direction indicators ....52, 80, 83-84 Headlamp adjustment................. 58 Changing bulbs......................80-85 Towbar ........................................ 94 Lifting, towing.............................. 93 Opening/closing the doors .........................6, 44, 47-50 Opening the bonnet .............. 16, 51 ABS, EBFD, Brakes........ 62, 72, 76 Tyres, pressures ................. 78, 108 Pads, discs, drums ..................... 76 Fuel tank ................... 16, 20, 51, 76 Side door child lock .................... 49 Locks ...................................... 6, 44 122 - VISUAL INDEX INSTRUMENTS AND CONTROLS Overhead storage, sun visor, courtesy lamp ................14, 56-57 Rear view mirror ......................... 55 Electric windows ......................... 54 Hazard warning lamps ................ 58 Instrument panel, dials, speedometer ............................ 18 Warning lamps, indicator lamps ... 19-21 Indicators, displays, screen .....21-25 Setting the time, dimmer, resetting to zero ..................23-24 Audio system .....................109-120 Fitting an audio system, speakers....... 91 Interior fuses ..........................86-88 Opening the bonnet .............. 16, 51 Parking brake, handbrake .......................... 62, 76 Heating/Air conditioning.........26-31 - vent, demisting, defrosting - air conditioning A/C, - air recirculation, - ventilation.
