1 Introduction
The ELCOM company wishes to thank you for the purchase
of the EURO-2500T cash register. Please read the instructions and become familiar with its functions and operations
before you start to operate this equipment. Keep this manual
for future use. It will help you to solve most problems encountered in its operation.
1.1 Important
6
•
Install the cash register in a place where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight, unusual
temperature changes (under 0° C and above 50°C) or high humidity. Installation in such
places could result in damage to the cabinet and electrical components.
•
Leave the cash register turned on for at least 8 hours to charge the NiCd memory back
up accumulator to full capacity.
•
After transporting the unit from a cold environment to a warm one or vice versa, do not
switch on the cash register for at least 20 minutes, giving all components time to adjust
to the new temperature conditions.
•
Do not operate the cash register with wet hands unless you have a special wet cover.
Water could seep into the interior of the Euro-2500T and cause component failure.
•
Clean the cash register with a dry, soft cloth. Never use such cleaning agents as petrol
or solvents. Using such chemicals can result in discoloration or deterioration of the
cabinet.
•
Avoid spilling any liquids on the cash register as they may damage its functionality. The
keyboard should be carefully protected.
•
Connect the cash register with the supplied adapter into a standard network plug. Other
electrical equipment connected in the same network circuit may cause improper functioning of the cash register. In an environment with strong interference use the special
anti-interference aids recommended by the manufacturer of the cash register.
•
If the cash register malfunctions, contact your authorized dealer for service. Do not try
to repair the register yourself. Do not open the cash register!
•
Pull out the AC/DC adapter plug from its electrical connection if the device is to be fully
disconnected.
•
During receipt printing wait until the printer has finished printing. Do not tear off the
receipt during printing. Printer damage may result.
•
Use only high-quality thermo paper. Improper ribbons may result in damage to the
printer or shorten its lifetime. With suitableribbons and careful maintenance of the
printer, its average lifetime is up to 25 milions lines.
•
If the red streak appears at the end of the paper ribbon, change this ribbon as soon as
possible. If the ribbon is changed late it can cause printer damage, or decrease lifetime
of the printer.

Journal paper storage recommendations: Do not expose thermo paper to light. Store
where the temperature is not higher than 40°C. Avoid contact of thermo paper with PVC,
mollificators, organic dissolvent or glue.
•
Use only the supplied AC/DC adapter or source recommended by the authorised dealer
for electrical connection. Use of other types of adapters may result in damage to the
cash register.
•
Use only the program recommended by your authorized dealer as well as the original
interconnecting cable for the cash register communication with a computer. For bar code
scanners use only the connector recommended in these instructions.
•
If the cash register is not used for a long time it is necessary to turn on the ECR for at
least 24 hours per 3 months of disuse to charge the internal NiCd memory back-up
accumulator and prevent data memory loss.
•
If the cash register is used in ways other than those described in these instructions, the
dealer cannot be responsible for data inaccuracy and resulting damage.
•
Only CE certificated equipments can be connected to the Euro-2500T cash register. In
the case of not using CE certificated equipments Elcom company is not responsible for
any damages or CE incompliance of the whole system. Please contact your authorized
dealer or Elcom company to get more information about equipments connectivity.

Report
The sale overview by the choice (financial, total, cashier, PLU etc.)
There are two basic types of reports: „X“ and „Z“.
„X“- reports print the concrete sales values (according to the report choice) without resetting the
data.
„Z“- reports print the sales values of the called report. After printing the values, all values are
reset to zero in the cash register memory.
Bar code.
Coding of the numeric description of products into bars corresponds with clearly defined international rules.
If the product has an assigned bar code, it appears on each of these goods. The most frequently used code
for product or merchandise denomination in Europe is a 13-digit code according to the EAN norm (EAN-13)
and the 8-digit code EAN-8.

2.4 Button names and their functions
Numerical keys are used for numerical values entry.
Department keys (used during recording of department sales). They are used for the
report of department sales in X mode and for department programming in P mode.
L
The „PAPER FEED“ key shifts the receipt ribbon or journal ribbon without printing. The
receipt ribbon or journal ribbon is fed in 1,5 cm by pressing this key.
Pressing this key allows you to enter the bar code through the keyboard in R and T
mode.
Pressing this key in T mode allows you to switch the receipt printing on and off.
This key is used to register the weight of goods from the electronic scales.
After finishing a transaction it is possible to print out the same receipt again. The
receipt is denoted „DUPLICATE“. It is also used for PLU stock programming in P
mode.
The button CLEAR is used to clear an amount that has been entered incorrectly from
the numeric keyboard. This button also cancels an incorrectly entered function and
the sound signaling ERROR/ALARM.
The VOID button is used to correct the item that has already been registered. If the
transaction is finished in R or T mode, the key is used for switching the cash register
between standard transactions and the PC ON-LINE mode. It is also used for
function texts programming in P mode.
The REFUND button enables you to pay back money, e.g. for damaged goods,
during the sale or as an independent transaction.
The MULTI/X button is utilized for multiplication, if two or more pieces of the same
item are being sold. It is also used for displaying the time in the registration mode and
for backlight in the X mode.
The PLU button (PRICE LOOK UP) makes it possible by means of the PLU code to
retreive the programmed data about the item price, the name, the department, VAT,
etc. See PLU transactions. It produces a PLU report in X or Z mode, and is also used
for PLU programming in P mode.
The button enables the user to enter the item price manualy rather than the
preprogrammed PLU price for one entry. It is also used for fast PLU price programming in P mode.

The button is used to identify the cashier by means of the password and permits the
cashier to log in. This way the proper cashier claims responsibility for the transactions. The name of the logged-in cashier is printed on each receipt header. The
transactions are recorded in the cashier’s account and are displayed in the cashier’s
report.
In the void mode (R or T) this button functions as “arrow down” ( jump to next item)
or arrow up (jump to the previous item).
$
The DRAWER button is used to print the customer’s or other reference numbers on
the receipt. It is also used to open the drawer with no sale.
The RA button is used to register the received payments if no business transaction
has been executed. It records, for example, insertion of daily opening cash into the
drawer. In the void mode (R or T) this button functions as page up or jump through 5
items back. It is also used for Flag programming in P mode.
The PO button is used to register paid out cash or checks from the cash register as
a non-business transaction. See paid-out function. In the void mode (R or T) this
button functions as page down or jump forward through 5 items. It produces
a periodical report in X or Z mode. It is also used for logo programming in P mode.

2.7 Paper rolls installation
Two 54/54, 54/38 or 70/38 mm wide thermal paper ribbons are used in the operation of the Euro-2500T cash
register. The left one is designed for customer receipt printing and the right one for journal printing. Use only
good quality rolls of paper with a maximum diameter of 60 mm (2.35 inches).
To ensure proper cash register operation, make sure the print saturation is correct. If any problems occur,
consult your local authorized dealer.
Place the paper rolls into the paper roll beds so that they can wind on to the front from the bottom (see
picture below). The paper ribbon must be cut straight across and must be free of dirt and glue residue.

First lift up the levers for holding up the print heads. Insert a customer ribbon and a journal ribbon according
to the picture. Set the printing heads back down and press the receipt shifting button on the front of the cash
register cabinet until the end of the paper ribbon comes out of the printer. Then press the journal shifting
button until the journal ribbon comes out. Place the right ribbon into the slit of the take-up spool as in the

2.8 Use and storage of thermal paper
2.9. Use and storage of thermal paper
The printer of the Euro-2500T cash register prints on 54 mm (2.12”) wide paper.
Journal paper storage recommendations:
- do not expose thermal paper to direct light,
- store at temperature not higher than 40°C,
- avoid contact of the thermal paper with PVC, mollificators, organic solvents or glue.
It is necessary to use rolls of good quality paper. We recommend paper rolls made by Jujo Thermal Ltd.
In the event of violating these use or storage recommendations, Elcom s.r.o. does not guarantee high
quality printing or preservation of the printed data.
If the red streak appears at the end of the paper ribbon, change this ribbon as soon as possible. If the ribbon
is changed late it can cause printer damage, or decrease lifetime of the printer.

3.13 Character code tables
3.13.1 Hexadecimal character code table
The hexadecimal character table is used during text programming (logo, PLU names, cashier names etc. ).
Each character is assigned a hexadecimal code in the table. Using text programming, enter the corresponding hexadecimal codes (codes in the hexadecimal system of numbers) instead of characters.
Note:
To program hexadecimal codes, use department buttons 1 to 6 to enter A - F characters respectively.
Enter digits 0-9 enter by means of the numeric keyboard. Program e.g. the text string “Coffee“ by
entering the hexadecimal string 43 6F 66 66 65 65. Before text programming, it is recommended that
hexadecimal strings representing texts be listed on a sheet of paper. The character table sorted in
alphabetic order on the next page will be helpful and faster in locating the corresponding hexadecimal codes.

4.4 Registration by means of departments
To get better information about particular revenue items split the articles into departments (article groups).
The expression “department“ means articles grouped in the same category (dairy products, pastry, alcohol
etc.), or of the same tax level (VAT 6%, VAT 23% etc.). The Euro-200T cash register enables the user to
create a maximum of 8 departments and, if PLUs are used as sub departments, up to 9000.
Item registration is carried out by pressing the proper department button (DPT1-DPT8). After pressing a
department button, the registered amount is added to revenue within the department. By pressing the
department button for the corresponding tax group, the maximum registration amount, preprogrammed price
and other parameters are assigned to the amount value. The sale information is stored in the register
memory and utilized for department reports.
Note:
By registration the numeric buttons
(see the keyboard layout figure).

for weighed items (meat, vegetables, salads etc.) where the unit price is known (e.g. for 1 kg,
for 100g etc.).
4.4.4 Split-pricing entries into departments
The cash register can be preprogrammed for registration of split prices. Use this function when a customer
wants to purchase more or less than the base quantity of a loose item.
Example: The price is determined a packet of 5 pieces of the same goods (e.g. a box of cheese).
A customer buys only 3 pieces. Thus he pays three fifths of the whole box unit price (5 pieces).

Example: In some services often only one item is sold (cigarettes). To simplify the sale of such items, it is
possible to program the price in the department. By pressing the department button the item is
automatically registered, the sale is automatically finished and the drawer is automatically opened.
This group is called a single item group. In the following example, the price of 50,70 in the DPT 4 is
preprogrammed.

4.5 PLU entries
Articles have assigned numbers (PLU numbers-codes). For example, RAMA butter -5, skimmed milk-23,
Rum 0,5L-189 etc. Preprogrammed data concerning the articles - name, price, assignment to the department, etc. are preprogrammed in the cash register memory and linked to particular PLU numbers. By
entering the PLU code and by pressing the
button data is looked up automatically in the register
memory and registered automatically.
PLU registration permits the storing of information about the sale of each particular item, printing names
of articles automatically on the receipt, printing the unit price automatically and assigning the transaction
to department revenue. It also prevents mistakes in keyboard registration. The name of each item on the
receipt the satisfies the customer`s wish for correctness of items purchased. By automatically calling
preprogrammed data from the cash register memory, faster customer service and greater accuracy is
provided.
PLU registration makes it possible to get a clear overview of the sale of each particular item. A personal
computer and a bar code scanner can emphasize the advantages of the PLU registration.

4.6.4 PC ON-LINE mode
A. PC ON-LINE mode: The data is transmitted from PC to ECR.
The Cash register software allows the use of the Euro-2500T as a fiscal printer. The ECR replaces the POS
printer and the PC fiscal module. That means that the cash register prints the receipt based on data from
your PC software.
This feature is useful where a simple cash register is not sufficient due to the high quantity of PLU and
where sales cadency is not so high.
PC ON-LINE mode setting:
If the ECR is in “R” or “T” mode, press the key
. Now the cash register is ready to communicate with a
PC (PC ON-LINE mode). The PC can transmit information on PLU sale, PLU refund, purchase finishing
signal, or PC-ON LINE mode finishing signal. The text “PC” is displayed on the left side of the display.

The meaning and function of the View and Print menus of the main menu are very similar. Both of them
offer the possibility to display or to print the edited files and the sales results read from the ECR. The basic
difference lies with the output device - the monitor of your computer or the printer. The type of information
is clear from the option name in the open menu bar.
Using the output of the PLU price-list and the PLU sales report on the printer, you can sort out the output
file according to various criteria. In order to save both time and paper you can list just a part selected by
the entered range of the sorting criterion.
Note:
By repeatedly creating new files whether by sending them into the register or by reading the
information about the sale from the register, the program directory can become confusing. It
is recommended that you delete all out of date files from this directory.

7 OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
7.1 Bar code scanners
The Euro-2500T cash register is equipped with an interface for the bar code scanner connection. If it is
desirable to use a bar code scanner, this chapter will try to advise you which scanner to choose. It is
recommended that you consult with your authorized dealer on the purchase of a scanner and connectivity
with the cash register.
The scanner is connected to the cash register by means of a built-in RS-232 serial interface with the standard Canon connector. Thus, the bar-code scanner must also be equipped with the same interface and
connector. The cash register provides +5V for power supply to the scanner. Before connecting, it is necessary to program both the scanner and the cash register with equal communication parameters.
Proscan and Metrologic scanners are recommended for use with the Euro-2500T cash registers. For other

7.2 Cash drawer
The Euro-2500T cash register can be connected to most cash drawers equipped with a 24V solenoid as the
opening device. The register has a built-in interface for automatic cash drawer opening. If needed, you can
use both
the narrow (3 compartments for notes) and wide drawers (4 compartments for
notes).
The drawer is interconnected with the register by a cable that automatically controls drawer opening. The small cable with the connector
permits you to disconnect the drawer for more comfortable
carrying.. This function is very advantageous for very
small businesses where you can put the drawer in any
place without losing the ability for the cash register to
open it automatically.
Ask for the cash drawer from your authorized dealer of
the Euro-2500T .
7.3 External display
The external display supplements the displays that are built into the
cabinet of the Euro-2500T cash register for the customer. The external display is situated in a place where the customer can see it
clearly.
The external display is interconnected with the cash register unit
through the cable supplied with the display. It can be delivered with a
2x20 alphanumeric display or with a 10-segment LCD display.
Ask your authorized dealer for an external display.
