Important Safety Information
Read the following safety information carefully. Safety messages will appear
throughout this manual and on labels on the enclosure to warn of potential
hazards, provide important weight and safe usage notifications, or to call attention
to information that clarifies a procedure.
WARNING
TIP/HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD
•
The enclosure is easily tipped. Use extreme caution when unpacking or
moving.
•
At least two people should move or unpack the enclosure.
•
Before moving the enclosure on its casters, load at least 200 lbs. of
equipment into the bottom of the enclosure for extra stability.
•
When moving the enclosure on its casters, make sure the leveling feet are in
the fully raised position and push the enclosure from the front or rear only.
Never push the enclosure from the sides.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or
equipment damage.
NOTICE
Caster loads: The enclosure can be moved on its casters with up to 1020.58 kg
(2,250 lb) of equipment installed. Once in place, lower the leveling feet. With the
leveling feet lowered, the static enclosure can be loaded to 1704.5 kg (3,750 lb).
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

Join the Enclosures
WARNING
TIP HAZARD
Joining racks in the row with the provided joining brackets provides limited
stability to the racks. Secure the enclosure to the floor to provide additional
stability.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or
equipment damage.
Tools Required (not provided)
Phillips head screwdriver
Join two or more enclosures with the provided brackets to assist in alignment and
increase stability. Enclosures can be joined with or without the side panels
installed.
1. Make sure that the leveling feet are down and the enclosures are level.
2. If installed, remove the front and rear doors. Disconnect any grounding wires
and cables that may interfere with door removal. Refer to the Door Removal
section in this manual for more information.
3. Locate the joining brackets. There are two (2) brackets on the front and two
(2) brackets on the rear of each enclosure.
ns3415a
4. Join the enclosures using one (1) M5 x 12 countersunk screw (provided) per
bracket. Insert a screw into the hole on each bracket and into the tapped hole
in the frame of the adjoining enclosure. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to
tighten the screws.
5. Re-install the doors. Refer to the Door Installation section in this manual for
more information.

Each enclosure should be bonded directly to a common ground using one of the
designated grounding locations (two M6 threaded inserts) at the bottom of the
enclosure.
Use a Common Bonding Network Jumper kit (for example, Listed [KDER]
Panduit® RGCBNJ660PY or equivalent).
•
Use paint-piercing washers (not provided) between the ground terminal and
the enclosure frame, or remove the paint on the frame under the ground
terminal, per NEC NFPA 70 Article 250.12.
•
Do not ground one enclosure to another in a cascading style. Ground each
enclosure directly to the building ground.

NOTE: NetShelter Configurable Enclosures are intended for use with Listed
equipment. If you install un-Listed equipment, you should evaluate the safety
of your configuration.
Adjust the Vertical Mounting Flanges
Vertical mounting flanges come factory-installed at 741 mm (29.17 in), the proper
location for use with rack-mountable equipment.
The mounting flanges are adjustable towards the front or the rear of the enclosure
to accommodate different rails or equipment with other depths.
ns1621b
A common application for the 750 mm (29.5 in) or 800 mm (31.5 in) wide
enclosure is to move the rails to a depth of 476 mm (18.75 in) to accommodate
networking and telecommunications equipment.

to accommodate your equipment. Make sure to align the vertical mounting flange
at the top and bottom of the enclosure. To ensure the vertical mounting flanges
are aligned to the same depth, the horizontal struts have numbers with will be
visible through the square center hole in the vertical mounting flange. To verify
that the two vertical mounting flanges at the front or rear of the enclosure are
positioned to the same depth, the number visible through the square center hole
will be the same.

Do not extend any equipment on sliding rails until you have installed
equipment into the enclosure (starting at the bottom of the rack and weighing
approximately 200 lbs) or until you have installed the stabilizer plate or boltdown brackets.
•
Never extend more than one piece of equipment on sliding rails at a time.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or
equipment damage.

Cage Nuts
CAUTION
FALLING EQUIPMENT HAZARD
Do NOT install cage nuts vertically with the tabs engaging the top and bottom of
the square hole.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment
damage.
If needed, APC offers a cage nut hardware kit, AR8100, (not provided) for use with
square holes. You can order the kit at www.apc.com.
ns1768a
Install cage nuts horizontally, with the tabs
engaging the sides of the square hole.

Cable Management
The NetShelter Configurable Enclosure has multiple cable access openings,
including the roof and floor. Route, secure, and organize cables using these
openings.
In addition, two rear vertical 0U cable organizers, or accessory channels, are
included with the enclosure. Deeper enclosures can accommodate four 0U
vertical cable organizers. Additional cable management accessories are available.
Please go to www.apc.com or contact your APC or Schneider Electric reseller for
more information.
Accessory Channel
The accessory channels provide toolless mounting capabilities for Rack Power
Distribution Units and cable management accessories.
There are four Accessory Channels included with the 1200 mm (47.24 in) deep
enclosure. There are two included with all other enclosures. The factory-default
position for the accessory channels is in the rear of the enclosure.
The Accessory Channels also provide tie-off locations for cables, as well as other
specific holes for managing cables with NetShelter brackets, fasteners, and
toolless mounting equipment.
Similar to the mounting flanges, the accessory channel can be moved anywhere
along the side braces.
ns1923a
NOTE: If needed, the accessory channels can be removed. Additional vertical
0U accessory channels are available for order.
