This manual covers the general installation and the customization of NetShelter Configurable Enclosures. Refer to the NetShelter Configurable Enclosures Specifications page in this manual for detailed measurements and ratings of specific models. NetShelter Configurable Enclosures are available in 600 mm (23.6 in), 750 mm (29.5 in), and 800 mm (31.5 in) widths. 990–91548 5 Safety Safety Important Safety Information Read the following safety information carefully. Safety messages will appear throughout this manual and on labels on the enclosure to warn of potential hazards, provide important weight and safe usage notifications, or to call attention to information that clarifies a procedure. WARNING TIP/HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD • The enclosure is easily tipped. Use extreme caution when unpacking or moving. • At least two people should move or unpack the enclosure. • Before moving the enclosure on its casters, load at least 200 lbs. of equipment into the bottom of the enclosure for extra stability. • When moving the enclosure on its casters, make sure the leveling feet are in the fully raised position and push the enclosure from the front or rear only. Never push the enclosure from the sides. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. NOTICE Caster loads: The enclosure can be moved on its casters with up to 1020.58 kg (2,250 lb) of equipment installed. Once in place, lower the leveling feet. With the leveling feet lowered, the static enclosure can be loaded to 1704.5 kg (3,750 lb). Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage. 6 990–91548 Safety Labels The labels in the illustration below can be found on the enclosure and serve to communicate important information. Label : Install heavy equipment to the enclosure starting from the bottom. Load at least 200 lbs. of weight in the bottom of the enclosure before moving the enclosure on its casters to lessen the possibility of tipping. Use extreme caution when unpacking or moving. • At least two people should move or unpack the enclosure. • Before moving the enclosure on its casters, load 158 kg (350) lb) of equipment into the bottom of the enclosure for extra stability. • When moving the enclosure on its casters, make sure the levelling feet are in the fully raised position and push the enclosure from the front or rear only. Never push the enclosure from the sides. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. The enclosure can be rolled on its casters to move it. Follow all Safety information when moving the enclosure in this manner. Lift the Enclosure ns3427a An empty enclosure can be lifted using M8 eye bolts installed to the threaded holes located in each corner of the roof. NOTE: Use appropriate lifting hardware to ensure a straight-line pull on the lifting eye bolts. 10 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Level the Enclosure The leveling feet at the corners of the enclosure provide a stable base if the floor is uneven, but they cannot compensate for a badly sloped surface. Tools Required (not provided) 14–mm Open-ended wrench Level 1. Ensure the enclosure is in its intended location. 2. Use a 14–mm open-ended wrench to lower the leveling feet. ns3429a 3. Use a level while you adjust the feet of the enclosure until it is level and plumb. 990–91548 11 Enclosure Installation Join the Enclosures WARNING TIP HAZARD Joining racks in the row with the provided joining brackets provides limited stability to the racks. Secure the enclosure to the floor to provide additional stability. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. Tools Required (not provided) Phillips head screwdriver Join two or more enclosures with the provided brackets to assist in alignment and increase stability. Enclosures can be joined with or without the side panels installed. 1. Make sure that the leveling feet are down and the enclosures are level. 2. If installed, remove the front and rear doors. Disconnect any grounding wires and cables that may interfere with door removal. Refer to the Door Removal section in this manual for more information. 3. Locate the joining brackets. There are two (2) brackets on the front and two (2) brackets on the rear of each enclosure. ns3415a 4. Join the enclosures using one (1) M5 x 12 countersunk screw (provided) per bracket. Insert a screw into the hole on each bracket and into the tapped hole in the frame of the adjoining enclosure. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the screws. 5. Re-install the doors. Refer to the Door Installation section in this manual for more information. DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK When installing the doors, connect all ground and other connection wires. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. 12 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Ground the Enclosure DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK The enclosure must be connected to the building Common Bonding Network (CBN). Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. Each enclosure should be bonded directly to a common ground using one of the designated grounding locations (two M6 threaded inserts) at the bottom of the enclosure. Use a Common Bonding Network Jumper kit (for example, Listed [KDER] Panduit® RGCBNJ660PY or equivalent). • Use paint-piercing washers (not provided) between the ground terminal and the enclosure frame, or remove the paint on the frame under the ground terminal, per NEC NFPA 70 Article 250.12. • Do not ground one enclosure to another in a cascading style. Ground each enclosure directly to the building ground. ns1617b • Bonding Locations on the Enclosure 990–91548 13 Enclosure Installation Secure the Enclosure WARNING TIP HAZARD Secure the enclosure to the floor before installing equipment. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. ns1780d The enclosure can be bolted to the floor internally or externally, as shown below. Description Pallet/bolt-down brackets (provided) Attaches to the enclosure and floor, internally or externally, to provide additional stability without blocking cable access. Designed for use in low and moderate seismic regions. NetShelter Configurable Enclosure stabilizer plate (option) Attaches externally to the enclosure and floor to provide additional stability. Bolt-down kit (option) Attaches to the enclosure and floor, internally or externally, to provide additional stability without blocking cable access. Designed for use in low and moderate seismic regions. High-seismic region bolt-down kit (option) Attaches to the enclosure and floor, internally and externally, to provide additional stability without blocking cable access. ns0702a Accessory NOTE: Not a substitute for enclosures designed to meet OSHPD* and IBC high seismic region requirements. 14 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Side Panels, Roof, and Doors Locking Side Panels DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK When installing the side panels, ensure all ground wires are reconnected. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. CAUTION HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD The panels are heavy. Use care when removing. Two people are recommended for this task. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. ns3418a All four side panels have ground wires attached. Disconnect the ground wires as shown in the illustration below. 990–91548 15 Enclosure Installation Top Panel ns3435a The top panels on each side of the enclosure are locked and must be unlocked with a key (provided) before they can be opened or removed. After unlocking the panel, tip the panel out and lift up to remove. Bottom Panel ns3430a The bottom panel is removed in the same manner as the top. The panel must first be unlocked, then, the panel can be tilted out and lifted up out of its channel in the frame of the enclosure. 16 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Roof DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK When the roof is installed, ensure the ground wire is connected. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. CAUTION HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD The roof is heavy. It is recommended that two people perform the removal and installation tasks. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. Roof Removal ns3437a Disconnect the ground wire attached to the roof before removing the roof. 990–91548 17 Enclosure Installation To remove the roof pull back the spring loaded pins then push up. The springloaded pins can be accessed from inside the enclosure or by reaching through the brushed access openings at the rear of the roof from the outside. ns3431b X2 18 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Installation To install the roof: 1. Insert the tabs at the front of the roof into the openings in the top of the frame. 2. Lower the rear of the roof to the frame. The spring-loaded pins should be pulled out to clear the top of the frame. ns3431a 3. Check that when the roof is fully lowered that the spring-loaded pins are secure to the frame. ns3437b Connect the ground wire. 990–91548 19 Enclosure Installation Doors The removal and installation tasks can be used to remove and install the front or rear doors. Door Removal CAUTION HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD The doors are heavy. Use care when removing. Two people are recommended for this task. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. 1. Unlock the door handle and open the door. ns2283a 2. Disconnect the ground wire and any other wire connections that may interfere with the removal of the door. ns3145b 3. The hinges separate by lifting upward and outward. Carefully lift the door up until the hinge brackets on the door are free of the hinge pins on the enclosure frame then pull the door away from the enclosure. 20 990–91548 Enclosure Installation Door Installation DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK When installing the doors, ensure all ground wires and any other cables have been reconnected. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. CAUTION HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD The doors are heavy. Use care when installing. Two people are recommended for this task. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. ns2284a 1. The doors self-align on hinge pins when properly installed. With the door at a 90 degree angle to the front of the enclosure, position the door over the hinge pins . Carefully lower the door to the enclosure frame, ensuring that the door hinge brackets correctly align to the enclosure frame hinge pins. 1 ns2285a 2. Connect the ground wire and any other wire connections. 990–91548 21 Enclosure Installation Reverse the Front Door DANGER HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK Ensure all ground wires and any other cables are reconnected following completion of this task. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. CAUTION HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAZARD The doors are heavy. Two people are recommended for this task. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. The front door can be reversed so that the door opens in the other direction. This procedure assumes that initially, when facing the enclosure, the hinges are on the left and the door is opening from the right. ns3422a 1. Remove the handle by removing the two screws securing the screw-plate and remove the screw-plate. Pull the handle from the door. 22 990–91548 Enclosure Installation 2. Disconnect the ground wire and any other wire connections that may interfere with door removal. ns1405c 3. Carefully lift the door vertically from the enclosure until the hinge brackets on the door are free of the hinge pins on the enclosure frame then pull the door away from the enclosure. 990–91548 23 Enclosure Installation ns1824a 4. Locate the upper hinge on the enclosure frame. Remove the two screws holding the hinge in place. Install the hinge onto the other side of the enclosure frame. Repeat this step for the lower hinge. 5. Rotate the door . Remove the hinges from the door, and install them to the alternate hole location . The hinges on the door should now align with the hinges on the enclosure. 2 1 ns2289a 3 24 990–91548 Enclosure Installation 6. Install the door to the hinges now on the reverse side of the enclosure frame. The doors self-align on hinge pins when properly installed. With the door at a 90 degree angle to the front of the enclosure, position the door over the hinge pins . Carefully lower the door into the hinges on the enclosure frame. If you install un-Listed equipment, you should evaluate the safety of your configuration. Adjust the Vertical Mounting Flanges Vertical mounting flanges come factory-installed at 741 mm (29.17 in), the proper location for use with rack-mountable equipment. The mounting flanges are adjustable towards the front or the rear of the enclosure to accommodate different rails or equipment with other depths. ns1621b A common application for the 750 mm (29.5 in) or 800 mm (31.5 in) wide enclosure is to move the rails to a depth of 476 mm (18.75 in) to accommodate networking and telecommunications equipment. 990–91548 27 Equipment Installation Position the Vertical Mounting Rails • Configuration 1: The Accessory Channel is installed. the vertical mounting flanges can be installed a minimum distance of (a) and can extend as far as (b). • Configuration 2: The Accessory Channel is removed. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. ns3424b The vertical mounting flanges are secured at the top, bottom, and center with two (2) Phillips head screws at each end. The vertical mounting flanges can be moved to accommodate your equipment. Make sure to align the vertical mounting flange at the top and bottom of the enclosure. To ensure the vertical mounting flanges are aligned to the same depth, the horizontal struts have numbers with will be visible through the square center hole in the vertical mounting flange. To verify that the two vertical mounting flanges at the front or rear of the enclosure are positioned to the same depth, the number visible through the square center hole will be the same. 990–91548 29 Equipment Installation Install the Equipment WARNING TIP HAZARD • The enclosure is easily tipped. Make sure you have secured the cabinet to the floor before installing equipment. • Install the heaviest equipment first and toward the bottom of the enclosure. • Do not extend any equipment on sliding rails until you have installed equipment into the enclosure (starting at the bottom of the rack and weighing approximately 200 lbs) or until you have installed the stabilizer plate or boltdown brackets. • Never extend more than one piece of equipment on sliding rails at a time. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage. Install Rack-mount Equipment in the Enclosure 1. Review the equipment manufacturer’s installation instructions. 7 1U 6 5 30 ns0014a 2. Locate the top and bottom U-space on the vertical mounting rails. Every third hole on the mounting rails is numbered to indicate the middle of a U-space. 990–91548 Equipment Installation Cage Nuts CAUTION FALLING EQUIPMENT HAZARD Do NOT install cage nuts vertically with the tabs engaging the top and bottom of the square hole. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. If needed, APC offers a cage nut hardware kit, AR8100, (not provided) for use with square holes. You can order the kit at www.apc.com. ns1768a Install cage nuts horizontally, with the tabs engaging the sides of the square hole. Installation: Install the cage nuts on the interior of the vertical mounting rail. 1. From the inside of the cabinet, insert the cage nut into the square hole. ns3436a 2. Hook one tab of the cage nut through the far side of the hole and pull the opposite tab through the square hole to snap the cage nut into position. Removal: 1. Remove any attached screw. 2. Grasp the cage nut and squeeze the sides to release it from the square hole. 990–91548 31 Equipment Installation Cable Management The NetShelter Configurable Enclosure has multiple cable access openings, including the roof and floor. Route, secure, and organize cables using these openings. In addition, two rear vertical 0U cable organizers, or accessory channels, are included with the enclosure. Deeper enclosures can accommodate four 0U vertical cable organizers. Additional cable management accessories are available. Please go to www.apc.com or contact your APC or Schneider Electric reseller for more information. Accessory Channel The accessory channels provide toolless mounting capabilities for Rack Power Distribution Units and cable management accessories. There are four Accessory Channels included with the 1200 mm (47.24 in) deep enclosure. There are two included with all other enclosures. The factory-default position for the accessory channels is in the rear of the enclosure. The Accessory Channels also provide tie-off locations for cables, as well as other specific holes for managing cables with NetShelter brackets, fasteners, and toolless mounting equipment. Similar to the mounting flanges, the accessory channel can be moved anywhere along the side braces. ns1923a NOTE: If needed, the accessory channels can be removed. Terms of Warranty APC warrants its products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years from the date of purchase. The obligation of APC under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing, at its sole discretion, any such defective products. This warranty does not apply to equipment that has been damaged by accident, negligence, or misapplication or has been altered or modified in any way. Repair or replacement of a defective product or part thereof does not extend the original warranty period. Non-transferable warranty This warranty extends only to the original purchaser who must have properly registered the product. The product may be registered at the APC website, www. apc.com. Exclusions APC shall not be liable under the warranty if its testing and examination disclose that the alleged defect in the product does not exist or was caused by end user’s or any third person’s misuse, negligence, improper installation or testing.
