Avoid using pruning saw indoors and in dangerous environments. • Do not operate machine in presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Sparks from operation may ignite dust or fumes. • Keep children and bystanders away while operating the pruning saw. • Thoroughly inspect area where pruning saw is to be used. Remove all objects that could be tripped over or thrown when cutting. Thrown objects may cause serious injury. Personal safety io n • Do not use power tools in rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. N R ot f ep o ro r du ct • Become familiar with all controls and their proper operation before using the pruning saw. Know how to stop the pruning saw and how to disengage the power in an emergency. • Always wear appropriate clothing & do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that can get caught in moving parts. • Wear appropriate protective equipment and clothing such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, and hard hat. Always wear eye protection. • Remove all work tools from the pruning saw before turning it on. • Stay alert & do not operate the pruning saw when tired. Pay close attention when operating pruning saw and ensure others are aware of your intentions before using pruning saw. • Do not operate the pruning saw while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. • Always walk & never run with the pruning saw and do not use it in a rush. • Use extreme care when approaching blind corners, doorways or other objects that may obscure your view & path of the pruning saw. • Keep all parts of body away from the chain when the pruning saw is operating. Before starting the pruning saw, make sure the chain is not in contact with anything. • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only. Blades in contact with metal parts or live wire may give the operator an electric shock. • Do not operate pruning saw while up in a tree as this may result in personal injury. • Always keep proper footing and operate pruning saw only when standing on a fixed, secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause loss of balance or control of the machine. 6 • When cutting a limb under tension, be alert of spring back. When the tension in the wood fibres is released by cutting it, the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the pruning saw out of control. General Safety • Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Greasy or oily handles are slippery and may cause loss of control. • Cut wood only. Do not use machine for unintended purposes. For example, do not use pruning saw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials as this is hazardous. Machine use and care • If the machine starts to vibrate excessively or if the switch does not turn it on and off. Discontinue use until the pruning saw has been inspected and fixed if required. • Do not apply excessive force on the pruning saw. Use it for intended application only. • Remove the battery pack from the pruning saw before making any adjustments, changing accessories, inspecting, adjusting, servicing or cleaning the pruning saw. Such safety measures reduce the risk of starting the machine unintentionally. Additional safety warnings io n • Store machine out of the reach of children. Do not allow children, persons unfamiliar with the machine or an impaired person to use the machine. • It is recommended that inexperienced users should be trained by an experienced operator. N R ot f ep o ro r du ct • Children and juveniles, with the exception of apprentices older than 16 years and under supervision must not operate the pruning saw. • Operating instructions should be kept handy. • Unfit or tired persons must not operate the pruning saw. • The blade should come to a standstill before placing it down. • Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock. • Use suitable detectors to search for hidden supply lines, or call the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explosion. Penetrating a water line causes property damage. • Keep hands away from the sawing area. Do not grip the underside of the work piece. Contact with the saw blade can lead to injuries. • Keep hands away from the lifting rod and the quick-action blade clamp. Contact with the saw blade may result in injury. • Apply the machine to the work piece only when switched on. Otherwise there is danger of kickback when the cutting tool jams in the work piece. • When the cut is completed, switch off the machine and then pull the saw blade out of the cut only after it has come to a standstill. In this manner you can avoid kickback and can place down the machine securely. • Use only undamaged saw blades that are in perfect condition. Bent or dull saw blades can break, negatively influence the cut, or lead to kickback. 7 General Safety • Do not brake the saw blade to a stop by applying side pressure after switching off. The saw blade can be damaged, break or cause kickback. • Clamp material well. Do not support the work piece with your hand or foot. Do not touch objects or the floor with the saw running. Danger of kickback. • Secure the work piece. A work piece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand. • Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The tool insert can jam and lead to loss of control over the power tool. • Before any work on the machine (e. g. maintenance, changing the tool, etc.) as well as during its transport and storage, lock the On/Off switch in the off position. There is danger of injury when the On/Off switch is unintentionally actuated. • Wear the dust mask when using the tool. N R ot f ep o ro r du ct Additional Warnings io n • Protect the power tool against heat, e. g., against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. Danger of explosion. It has been reported that vibrations from hand-held tools may contribute to a condition called Raynaud’s Syndrome in certain individuals. Symptoms may include tingling, numbness and blanching of the fingers, usually apparent upon exposure to cold. Hereditary factors, exposure to cold and dampness, diet, smoking and work practices are all thought to contribute to the development of these symptoms. It is presently unknown what, if any, vibrations or extent of exposure may contribute to the condition. There are measures that can be taken by the operator to possibly reduce the effects of vibration: • Keep your body warm in cold weather. When operating the unit wear gloves to keep the hands and wrists warm. • After each period of operation, exercise to increase blood circulation. • Take frequent work breaks. Limit the amount of exposure per day. • Keep a tight grip on the handles. • Only use the pruning saw as intended by design and instructions. • Ensure the pruning saw is well maintained and in good condition. • Maintain the pruning saw in accordance with these instructions and keep it well lubricated. If you experience any of the symptoms of this condition, immediately discontinue use and see your physician about these symptoms. 88 Battery safety warning • Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting the battery pack. • Use only original Briggs & Stratton 18V batteries for the pruning saw. Do not use any other battery packs as this may create a risk of injury and/or fire. • Do not open the battery to avoid danger of short-circuiting. • Protect the battery against water, moisture and heat (e.g. continuous intense sunlight and fire) to avoid danger of explosion. • In case of damage or improrer use of battery, vapours may be emitted. In this situation, ventilate the area and seek medical help as vapours may irritate respiratory system. • The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit can occur and the battery can burn, smoke, explode or overheat. • Do not short-circuit battery to avoid danger of explosion. io n Charger safety warning N R ot f ep o ro r du ct • Appliance can only be used by children 8 years and above, persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities if given supervision, proper instructions for safe use and understanding of safety hazards. • Supply cord cannot be replaced.
