IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

1.

Read these instructions carefully before using the kettle and keep them for future reference.

2.

The appliance is designed for domestic use only. Do not use it outdoors. Keep it away from sources of heat, direct sunlight, humidity (never dip it into any liquid) and sharp edges. Do not use the appliance with wet hands. If the appliance is damp or wet, unplug it immediately. Do not put it in water.

3.

When cleaning or putting the kettle away, switch it off and pull out the plug from the socket (pull on the plug, not the cable).

4.

Never leave the appliance unsupervised when switched on. To protect children from the dangers posed by electrical appliances, keep the kettle out of children’s reach.

5.

Check the appliance and cable for damage regularly. Do not use the appliance if it is damaged.

6.

Pay careful attention to the safety instructions below.

7.

This appliance is not intended for use by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Use only cold water when filling.

The water level must be between the MAX. and MIN. marks.

Switch the kettle off before removing it from the base.

Always ensure that the lid is tightly closed.

The base and exterior of the kettle must not become wet.

USING YOUR KETTLE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Please read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place. Before using for the first time, boil fresh water at least twice and discard. Do not add anything to the water.

USING YOUR KETTLE

1.

Place the machine on a flat surface.

2.

Open the lid by pressing the button on the handle, then fill with water. The water level is shown by the water level indicator on the side of the kettle. Please do not overfill the kettle.

3.

Close the lid by pressing down with your hand until it clicks shut.

4.

Place the kettle flush on the base.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

1.

Check that the mains voltage supply you intend to use is the same as that of the kettle. For information on the voltage supply of the kettle, please see the identification plate on the base.

2.

Switch on the kettle using the on/off switch. The indicator light will illuminate.

3.

The kettle switches off automatically when the water has boiled. Then disconnect the kettle from the mains power supply. Always hold the lid closed when pouring water out. Beware of scalding.

CLEANING

Always pull out the plug from the socket before cleaning.

The exterior of the machine may be cleaned, if necessary, with a slightly damp cloth without detergent.

DESCALING

The frequency of the descaling operation depends on the hardness of the water and how often the kettle is used.

If the machine switches off before the water has boiled, it probably needs to be descaled.

Please do not use vinegar but a proprietary brand of descaler. Please follow the instructions on the packaging.

RECYCLING YOUR ELECTRICALS

Along with many other high street retailers, Lakeland has joined a scheme whereby customers can take their unwanted electricals to recycling points set up around the country. Visit www.recycle-more.co.uk to find your nearest recycling point.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED

This appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to BS1363 which is suitable for use in all homes fitted with sockets to current specifications. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and carefully disposed of. To avoid an electric shock, do not insert the discarded plug into a socket.

Fitting a new plug

If for any reason you need to fit a new plug, the flexible mains lead must be connected as shown here. The wires in the mains lead fitted to this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code:

Neutral(blue)

Earth(green/yellow)

L

E

13amp fuse

N

Live(brown)

Connect BLUE to Neutral (N)

Connect GREEN & YELLOW to Earth (E)

Connect BROWN to Live (L)

13 amp fuse to be used

If the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance do not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows. The wire which is coloured green and yellow MUST be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter E (Earth) or coloured green. The wire which is coloured blue MUST be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N (Neutral) or coloured black.

The wire which is coloured brown MUST be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L (Live) or coloured red.

Before refitting the plug cover, check that there are no cut or stray strands of wire inside the plug. Use a 13 amp

BS1362 fuse. Only BSI or ASTA approved fuses should be used. If you are at all unsure which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician.

Note: after replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded plug which has a fuse cover, the cover must be refitted to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover. If lost, replacement fuse covers can be obtained from an electrical shop. This appliance complies with the following EEC Directives: 73/23 EEC (Low

Voltage Directive) and 89/336 EEC (EMC Directive).
