Steering Wheel Installation Instructions
REMOVING THE OEM STEERING WHEEL
1.
Insert an Allen key or small flat screwdriver into the small hole on either side of the steering wheel referenced in
Figure 1. Feel around with the tool until you find the spring clip shown in Figure 2. Press inward on the clip until the corresponding side of the airbag module is released. Repeat this process for the other side to fully release the module.
2.
With the airbag module released, it should pull free of the steering wheel core just enough to give visibility of a small black connector on the upper left side of the steering wheel core (Figure 3). Release this connector to gain more slack to pull the module almost entirely out to gain access to the next connectors. The red connector will need to be released first, as this pigtail is fairly short.
3.
Release the (x2) yellow connectors on the back of the airbag module (Figures 2 & 3). This can be done by using a small screwdriver or pick tool to pull up the orange safety tabs. Once they are released, the airbag module can be pulled free of the core and set aside for later reinstallation. The connectors are color coded, but knowing the orientation and position of clips will aid in reassembly.
4.
Next, there is a rectangular black clip towards the upper edge of the steering wheel core that will need to be released (Figure 4).
5.
Using a Torx T50 bit, remove the large center bolt in the steering wheel core holding the wheel to the steering column (Figure 4). If the steering wheel is turning while releasing the bolt, the steering wheel may need to be braced to aid in this process.
Once released, pull the steering wheel free and feed the loose steering wheel wiring out of the wheel as well.
NOTE: Remove the wheel at the 12 o’clock position and make sure the clockspring on the column is oriented as such upon removal. This will ensure the steering wheel is centered and easier to put back on during reinstallation.

DISASSEMBLING THE OEM STEERING WHEEL
6.
Set the steering wheel core face up on a soft or protected surface to prevent any damage to the OEM steering wheel core during disassembly. Using a plastic pry bar, slightly lift the bottom of the steering wheel lower spoke cover (Figure 5). Pull the cover free and set aside. You will not reuse this piece during reinstallation.
NOTE: This lower spoke cover is not present on 2014-
2015 models.
7.
Gripping the inside of the bezel and pulling outwards as you move along the edges, release the front bezel that houses the steering wheel controls free from the steering wheel core (Figure 5). Then, release the connectors on both the left and right-hand side of the bezel to release the controls from the steering wheel core (Figure 6). The bezel can be pulled completely free of the core at this point.
8.
Use a T20 Torx bit to remove (x6) screws, 3 per side, to release the paddle shifters and lower multi-function controls from the steering wheel core (Figure 7). There will be small connectors to release from both the paddle shifters and lower controls to the harness. Set both sets of these controls to the side and note their orientation for reassembly.
9.
Pull the harness from the core. Make note of how the harness lays within molded rubber troughs inside the core for future reassembly.

REASSEMBLING THE AFTERMARKET STEERING WHEEL
10.
Set the aftermarket steering wheel core face up on a soft surface to protect from any scratching and marring that may occur during reassembly.
4
Feed the wiring harness back into place in the aftermarket steering wheel core as it was from the one previously disassembled. Be sure to press the harness back into the molded troughs for clearance.
11.
Using a T25 Torx bit, reinstall the lower controls and the paddle shifters on both the left and right-hand sides of the aftermarket steering wheel core with (x3) screws per side as seen in Step 8 and Figure 7. Torque screws to 8ft-lb (11Nm).
12.
Reinstall the upper controls to the harness and clip the upper bezel back into the steering wheel core as seen in Step 7 and Figure 6.
Make sure the bezel is pushed securely into the detents in the core for a tight fit with no excessive gaps from the bezel to the wheel.
INSTALLING THE AFTERMARKET STEERING WHEEL
13.
Prior to reinstallation, confirm the steering wheel and clock spring on the steering column are in the 12 o’clock position. Carefully, feed the harness through the appropriate holes in the core as seen in Step 5 and
Figure 4.
14.
Reinstall the Torx T50 Bolt in the center of the steering wheel core (Figure 3). Torque down to 33lb-ft
(45Nm). Blue Loctite® or similar thread locking compound is suggested when reinstalling this particular bolt.
15.
Refer to Step 4 and Figure 4 and install the rectangular black connector referenced on the upper portions of the core.
16.
Bring the airbag module near the steering wheel, now attached to the column, and then reinstall the (x2) yellow connectors in their appropriate connections Step 3, joining the steering wheel core to the airbag module. Then, connect the small black connector at the upper left-hand side of the core to its appropriate attachment point on the airbag module (Step 2 and Figure 3).
17.
Firmly press the airbag module back onto the steering wheel core. A click should be heard as the airbag module is seated. Reconnect the battery and test function of the steering wheel and associated buttons.
