plies only to tabletop folders producing a single or

equipped with a fold chart which gives the fold plate
settings for standard folds. In other cases, the fold
plate settings may be determined by measuring the
folds. Make the first fold manually. Then measure
the distance from the fold to the edge of the paper
farthest from the fold. This 1s the upper fold plate
setting, Fig. 12-2. Make the second fold, and mea-
sure the distance from fold to fold. This is the lower
fold plate setting, Fig.12-3.

To set the upper fold plate, loosen the paper stop
knobs. Position the paper stop so the scribe marks
align with the first fold dimension. The lower fold
plate 1s set by aligning the lower edge of the paper
stop with the dimension of the second fold.
If just one fold is being made, only the upper fold
plate is used. Move the deflector lever to the on po-
sition. This prevents the paper from entering the sec-
ond fold plate. In the off position, the paper 1$ al-
lowed to enter the lower fold plate where the second

fold is made.
Position the left side guide rail of the feeding table
for the width of the paper being folded. Place a single

sheet of paper on the feed table against the left guide
rail. Move the right guide rail up to the edge of the
paper, and then back it off slightly to prevent bind-
ing the paper. Align the two guide rollers with the
inner edges of the guide rails, Fig. 12-4
Fig. 12-4. Position the guide rollers
ADJUSTING THE FEEDING SYSTEM
The feeding system must be adjusted for the thick-
ness of the paper being folded. Turn the adjusting
knob until a small gap appears between the feed roller
and the separator roller, Fig. 12-5. Turn on the folder,
and place a single sheet of paper on the feed table
between the separator roller and feed roller. Hold the
paper between your thumb and finger and turn the
adjusting knob until the sheet 1s pulled from your
hand.
Safety Note
Turn the folder to off position prior to checking the
feeding system further. After the folder is in the off
position, check the feeding system by placing a folded
sheet on the receiving tray tapes with one edge evenly
touching the folding roller, Fig. 12-6. Position the
stacking spring in the center of the paper so that the
first step is resting on the lead edge of the paper.
Position the two outside paper guides about 1" (25.4
mm) in from the edges of the paper. The other two
paper guides should be evenly spaced across the
sheet. Jog the paper to be folded, and fan it so the top
sheet will be fed into the folder first. If a parallel
letter fold is being made, The letterhead should be
face up and fed into the machine first, Fig. 12-7. For
an accordion fold, the letterhead is face up but at the
tail end of the feed table. Check the first few folded
sheets to see that the folds are straight, of the desired
size, and in the proper sequence.

Yo
AN A.B.DICK FOLDER IS LIKE HAVING TEN EXTRA HANDS READY
TO FOLD LETTERS, STATEMENTS, FORMS OR MAILERS.
One single machine takes all paper folding off your hands, and frees you for
more important projects while saving your company time, labor and money.
No workload is too tough or too demanding. The Model 52 folds 12,000 letters
an hour (8.5" x 11" (216 x 279mm) sheet size) and will fold smaller forms even
faster. There are six standard folds to choose from - simply select the one you
want, then change two simple settings indicated on the "Quick Set Fold Chart”
and you're off and folding. You can also adjust the fold plates for customized
folding jobs.
The paper folds come up neat, sharp, and uniform. The easy loading and
continuous feed system allows larger folding jobs to be distributed in minutes.
And with the variable speed control on the Model 58, you can plan on trouble-
free folding any size paper, stapled or unstapled from 3" x 5" to 12" x 18"
(76 x 127mm to 305 x 457mm) - even if they're six-page documents.
All these advantages are designed to provide years of easy-to-use service -
economically. Even if you do as little as two hours of hand folding a week, you'll
find one of these machines practical to own.
