help with all your assessment needs!
for 2007 where we hope that we can help you find
solutions to all your assessment needs.
For many years, Hodder Murray has delivered fully
researched, standardised tests, which have gained a
high reputation for quality and reliability. This year, in
response to teachers’ requests, we are delighted to be
offering a range of new test and assessment material,
ensuring we can provide all the tools you need,
Newly updated, the site now allows you to
view sample pages of many of the tests
available, and also includes:
• TestFinder – not sure which test you
need? Just enter the relevant pupil ages and
skill area/subject, and TestFinder will point
you to the most appropriate tests.
• Demo material – view online
demonstrations of our Scorer/Profiler
CD-ROMs
• Downloadable materials – access
mapping charts, diagnostic grids, and more.
• Full, up-to-date info – check out prices,
age-ranges, etc, before you order.
whichever skill you want to test.
Whether you are looking for a literacy, numeracy or
reasoning test, we can offer solutions for mainstream,
special needs or gifted and talented pupils. In addition,
our diagnostic SNAP CD-ROMs will support you in
identifying both specific learning difficulties and
behaviour profiles.
If you need a quick and effective test for examination
access arrangements, look no further than the Access
Reading Test on page 13.
You may also contact your local consultant to
arrange a presentation or training session.
Visit www.hoddertests.co.uk where you can use
our free TestFinder software to identify the test you
need and find full information on our whole
assessment range.
With very best wishes for 2006/7.

Mathematics Assessment for
Learning and Teaching (MaLT)
A genuine breakthrough in Mathematics assessment, available
in both pencil-and-paper and interactive formats.
assessment
solution
Identifies patterns of errors and misconceptions – and provides
standardised year-on-year progress assessment
Developed and standardised by a project team at the University of Manchester led by
Professor Julian Williams
Mathematics Assessment for Learning and Teaching (MaLT) is a
groundbreaking new approach to standardised, diagnostic
Mathematics assessment for ages 5–14.
Diagnostic Error Analysis
Use MaLT to uncover patterns of errors made by a whole class or individual pupils! The
MaLT assessments have been purpose-written to highlight particular errors and
misunderstandings that are diagnostic of key learning needs – for example
counting errors, misconceptions with decimals, etc.
Computer-Adaptive Assessment
Computer-adaptive assessment is sensitive to the individual pupil’s answers on the test,
selecting and presenting new questions that are optimally matched to individual
performance. This enables MaLT to explore each pupil’s mathematical knowledge,
understanding and skills at the limits of their own ability, providing a precise profile of what he
or she can and cannot do. It also makes for highly efficient and effective assessment that
gives meaningful results and feedback to inform teaching.
Diagnostic
Group/whole class
45 minutes
Fully Standardised
‘Given the increased
flexibility and ease of
testing, marking and
data-handling, it’s
difficult to see why an
ICT-competent school
would choose not to
use it.’
In addition to these exciting developments, MaLT brings you everything you would expect
from a standardised Maths assessment – and more! It can be used at any point in the school
year, both for management and performance information, and at individual and class level to
inform teaching.

Selection Testing
Moray House Tests
assessment
solution
Verbal reasoning tests to help assess pupils on entry to selective
secondary education
Moray House Tests have been used for many years as part of the
procedure for entry to selective secondary education, and have a
high reputation for their accuracy and consistency. These verbal
reasoning tests also provide a useful complement to assessments
based solely on attainments, and may be used to establish a baseline
against which to evaluate subsequent performance.
●
●
Highly reliable, standardised and all
calibrated on the same scale, to allow
comparability
Ideal for comparing pupils on intake with
their subsequent performance – the tests
give a fair indicator of the ‘added value’
the school is providing to its pupils
