Frequently Asked Questions
Extreme Networks EAS Series
Q: In which part of the network does EAS series play?
A: EAS series is targeted at the Ethernet Access layer of the network, a fast growing segment in the Ethernet
networking market. Think of EAS as “wired” access where the end-user hops onto the network.
Q: What is the EAS series elevator pitch?
A: Pervasive mobility is driving up the number of users, devices and applications requiring access to the
network. A robust access layer is needed to address ever-increasing network traffic. To meet these needs the
EAS series from an enterprise-class vendor like Extreme Networks with an end-to-end product portfolio and rich
networking expertise is the right choice.
Q: What is the EAS series messaging?
A: The Extreme Networks EAS family of switches provides consistent, secure, cost-effective network access to
support exploding user mobility and applications. These switches complement an intelligent and highperformance core and edge, providing IT managers with an enterprise class access layer to build out their
network infrastructure.
• Dense access connectivity for growing enterprise mobility.
• Cost-effective enterprise access.
• Simple and flexible management.
Q: How does EAS series “fit” with the ExtremeXOS® products?
A: EAS series has its own operating system which interoperates with ExtremeXOS products. EAS is designed for
dense network connectivity at the access layer. As such, it does not require the advanced features found in
Extreme Networks edge and core products such as Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS), Identity
Management (IDM), or Universal Port (UPM). Traffic from the EAS series is forwarded to the more advanced
ExtremeXOS edge, extending the benefits of sophisticated identity management for wired and wireless and
complementing Extreme Networks end-to-end intelligence and automation portfolio.
Q: Does the EAS series use the ExtremeXOS operating system?
A: No. The EAS series is built for standard layer-2 Ethernet access, with the products carrying some additional
features found in Layer 3. EAS interworks with ExtremeXOS and other vendor devices using standard layer-2
protocols.

Q: Will more features be added to the current EAS series models?
A: EAS series supports a broad set of standard protocols and features for Enterprise Access and no additional
features are planned.
Q: What is the main difference between EAS 100-24t and EAS 200-24p?
A: EAS 100-24t and EAS 200-24p models are different in POE support. The EAS 100-24t is a non-PoE Layer 2+
Gigabit Ethernet switch. The EAS 200-24p is PoE+ Layer 3-Lite Gigabit Ethernet switch and supports a few
additional features. See the chart below for details.
Q: What warranty does EAS series have?
A: Lifetime Limited Warranty (LLW) with Advanced Hardware Replacement (AHR) just like the Summit® Edge
products (X150, X350, X250e, X450e).
Q: Are service contracts available?
A: Yes, we offer Extreme Works, Partner Works, Partner Works Plus, Partner Works Lite.
