Operation - Fan PULL CHAIN OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Install the pull chain and fob (CC) onto the pull chain located in the switch housing (JJJ). Turn on the power and check the operation of the fan. The pull chain controls the fan speed as follows: 1 pull - High, 2 pulls - Medium, 3 pulls - Low, and 4 pulls - Off. Speed settings for warm or cool weather depend on factors such as the room size, ceiling height, and number of fans. JJJ CC REVERSE SWITCH OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: Not recommended to use misting feature with fan in reverse. The reverse switch is located on the surface of the switch housing. This switch controls directions: forward (switch down) or reverse (switch up). NOTE: Wait for the fan to stop before reversing the direction of the blade rotation. Warm weather - (Counterclockwise Direction) A downward air flow creates a cooling effect. This allows you to set your air conditioner on a higher setting without affecting your comfort. Cool weather - (Clockwise Direction) An upward air flow moves warm air off the ceiling. This allows you to set your heating unit on a lower setting without affecting your comfort. 20 Operation - Misting Device Ensure the switch (KKK) is in the OFF position (O). Plug the electrical cord into a 120v outlet. ON-OFF Button: This button is used to regulate the misting device. KKK MIST FEATURE EXPERIENCE □ The misting feature is most effective with the fan at medium speed, low outside humidity, and a light breeze. Water accumulation from mist should be none to minimal in these conditions. □ Using the misting feature in very high humidity will aid in cooling, but water build up on surfaces below the fan is possible. □ At a distance from the fan, you may experience light droplets of water. This is normal to operation and can be minimized by increasing the fan speed. □ As with any misting system, the conditions of the environment such as temperature, wind, humidity, and proximity to the fan affect the experience. Based on these conditions and personal preference you may need to adjust fan speed and mist run time accordingly. 21 HAMPTONBAY.COM Please contact 1-855-HD-HAMPTON for further assistance. Operation - Misting Device (continued) INITIAL OPERATION AND USE AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME □ When first powering on the pump, air needs to evacuate from the water lines. The result will be intermittent water spitting until all air bubbles are removed. This is normal. □ When turning on the mist system after a period of non-use, there may be a brief plastic smell to the water from the lines. Keeping water lines out of direct sunlight helps to prevent this. □ When turning on the mist system after a period of non-use, the mist may be hot. Keeping water lines out of direct sunlight helps to minimize this and the mist will cool down as fresh water enters the system. MIST FEATURE SHUT OFF □ When the mist system is turned off, pressure in the lines drops until the nozzle valves close. The result of this is a brief stream of water (non-mist) coming from the nozzles. This is normal to operation and there may be a few drips of water that accumulate on the nozzles as a result. RESERVOIR DRAWN OPERATION □ If connecting to a hose spigot or plumbed water supply is not an option, it is possible to use a water reservoir (not included). □ The reservoir needs to be clean, free from debris, and preferably have a lid that prevents air born contaminants from entering. The reservoir also must be emptied after each use to prevent stale water and/or algae from entering the mist system. □ If using a reservoir, an in-line filter (not included) must also be used. Any in-line filter with 1/4 in. PTC (push-to-connect) or compression fittings will work and can be placed directly in the reservoir. 22 Care and Cleaning - Misting Device CLEANING THE NOZZLES BB Check nozzle function regularly. If the nozzles lose performance or become clogged, clean or replace the nozzles. To clean the nozzles: □ Remove the fan from the ceiling or unscrew mist ring cover (MMM) from the top using a ladder. If removing from ceiling, remove the hanger ball (RR) from the downrod (VV), and then take out the canopy (B) and misting ring cover (D). □ Remove nozzles (NNN) from the misting ring (E). Needle nose pliers can be used if nozzles are stuck. □ Soak the nozzles in white vinegar or a scale and lime remover solution. □ If, after soaking performance does not improve, the spring valve nozzles (NNN) may need to be disassembled to remove the spring (QQQ) and valve (RRR) from the inside. These may have particulate in them causing poor nozzle performance. □ After cleaning the nozzle, place the water tube (UU) onto the misting ring (E) with an arrow marker (OOO). □ Carefully reinstall the mist ring cover (MMM), being sure it aligns with the tabs (PPP) on the mist ring cover (MMM) and misting ring (E). □ If cleaning does not help, replacement nozzles are available. Call Customer Service (1-855-HD-HAMPTON) to order the replacement nozzles. LLL MMM OOO E PPP NNN NNN QQQ RRR SSS WINTERIZING If the fan is installed in a location that will experience below freezing temperatures, the mist system must be winterized to prevent damage. Steps: 1. Remove the water line from the pump and allow water to drain. □ Depress the connector rings and then pull out water line to prevent damage. 2. Using compressed air, force the rest of the water out of the mist nozzles. □ This can be done with a blow gun tool with pressure setting above 100 psi to ensure the nozzle valves open. □ If access to compressed air is not an option, follow the nozzle cleaning procedure except, only remove one nozzle and tilt the fan so that water gravity drains. 3. Drain remaining water from the pump and store pump indoors ensuring it is above freezing temperature to prevent damage. 23 HAMPTONBAY.COM Please contact 1-855-HD-HAMPTON for further assistance. Care and Cleaning - Fan Do □ Do not Check the support connections, brackets, and blade attachments twice a year. Make sure they are secure. Because of the fan’s natural movement, some connections may become loose over time. It is not necessary to remove the fan from the ceiling. □ Clean your fan periodically. Use only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish. The plating is sealed with a lacquer to minimize discoloration or tarnishing. □ (Optional) Apply a light coat of furniture polish to the wood blades. □ (Optional) Cover small scratches with a light application of shoe polish. □ Use water when cleaning. Water could damage the motor, or the wood, or possibly cause an electrical shock. □ Apply oil to your fan or motor. The motor has permanently-lubricated sealed ball bearings. Troubleshooting - Fan WARNING: Make sure the power is off at the electrical panel box before you attempt any repairs. Refer to step “Making the Electrical Connections” on page 10. Problem The fan will not start. The fan sounds noisy. Solution □ Check the main and branch circuit fuses or breakers. □ Check the line wire connections to the fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing. □ Make sure all motor housing screws are snug. □ Make sure the screws that attach the fan blade arm to the motor hub are tight. □ Make sure wire nut connections are not rattling against each other or the interior wall of the switch housing. □ Allow a 24-hour "breaking-in" period. Most noises associated with a new fan disappear during this time. □ If using the ceiling light kit, make sure the glassware are secured tight. Check that the light bulb is also secure. □ Make sure there is a short distance from the ceiling to the canopy. It should not touch the ceiling. □ Make sure your ceiling box is secure and rubber isolator pads are used between the mounting bracket and outlet box. 24 Troubleshooting - Fan (continued) Problem Solution □ Verify that all blades and blade bracket screws are secure (most fan wobble problems are caused by loose parts). Once the fan is properly installed, run the ceiling fan for 10 minutes to let the fan self-adjust. If wobble occurs after running the fan for 10 minutes, verify blade level using the following process: The fan wobbles. - Select a point on the ceiling above the tip of one of the blades, then select any fan blade and measure from the center of the selected blade to the point on the ceiling. Rotate the fan until the next blade is positioned and repeat the measurement using the same point from the ceiling for every blade. Measurement deviations should be within 1/8 in.. - If all deviations are less than 1/8 in. and the fan continues to wobble, please call Customer Service (1-855-HD-HAMPTON) to order a complimentary Blade Balancing Kit. - If deviation is greater than 1/8 in., please call Customer Service (1-855-HD-HAMPTON) to order complimentary replacements of your brackets. 25 HAMPTONBAY.COM Please contact 1-855-HD-HAMPTON for further assistance.
