Requirements:
Factory radio with “CD”, “CHG” button on faceplate
Introduction:
Many Volvo Owners with older SC, CT & CR changer controlling radios are having a difficult time finding an easy an effective way of connecting and listening to
Apple iPod devices in their cars. Many are turned away, offered an FM Modulator recommend replacing the radio, but if none of those options pique your interest, we offer the iP-VOLV. The iP-VOL works in 1984-04 Volvo SC, CR and CT changer controlling radios and the only requirement is disconnect the external CD changer * (if present), but with the storage capacity of iPod devices, sacrificing the CD changer should be an easy decision.
Installation:
Radio must be pulled from the dash to connect the adapter.
Although not critical, we recommend disconnecting the car battery. Keep in mind that most Volvo radios are coded and will not operate without the code. Radio code must be available for radio to operate upon reconnection.

To remove “SC” radio, push in on the release tabs at the bottom

Once the tabs come out, place index fingers inside release tab ring and pull outward as seen in Fig. 2

Connect the 8-pin plug (See Fig. 3 ) from adapter harness to the “CD” changer port on radio (See. Fig. 4 ).
Factory CD changer (if present) must be disconnected.

Connect 8-pin iPod cable end to Module 8-pin socket (See Fig. 6 )

Tap yellow wire (See Fig. 3 ) to either Green / Brown wire on radio harness (See Fig. 5 )

Route 30-pin dock connector end (See Fig. 7 ) to front of the dash or location where iPod will reside (within 6 ft.)

30-pin dock connector, pair A2DP device and enjoy!!
Frequently ask questions and troubleshooting
1.
Does the IP-VOL work all Volvo radios
NO; the iP-VOL works only on Volvo SC, CT and CR changer controlling radios. Radio model numbers are printed on radio face.

Operation:
Reconnect battery and enter radio code
1.
Turn the r adio “ON”
2.
Press the “ CHGR ” button to enter CD changer mode
3.
Connect your Apple device to dock connector
4.
Apple device should begin charging
5.
Play test track. Track will play on car speakers.
6.
Use radio volume control button to set the playback level.
Warning!
Playlist and Track selection is *NOT* possible from the GM radio. You must use the audio devices built-in controls to access audio files.
7.
If correct operation is confirmed go ahead and reinstall radio

Can I use the radio buttons to control the Apple device
NO; Use Apple device built-in controls to navigate and access music.
3.
Can I use the radio buttons to navigate the Apple device menu
NO; this adapter is not capable of browsing apple menus (i.e., Search by
Artist, Song, and Playlist etc.). You must use the Apple device built-in controls to navigate its menus.
4.
I’m getting alternator whine on the car speaker which was not present prior to installing this adapter.
What can be done to fix?
In most cases this can be fixed by installing a noise filter. The NF5A is a 5A noise filter is available here .
* External or remote CD changer refers to optional changer installed under seat, hatch, trunk etc. (CD changer built-into the head unit remains functional) email [email protected]
