The Choice Select CHO4006 is a compact ATSC Set Top Box that allows you to enjoy free-to-air (FTA) terrestrial digital TV broadcasting. It supports HDTV and SDTV broadcasts, and features an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) with a 10-program timer, closed captioning, and V-Chip parental controls. With YPbPr and Composite Video outputs, it can be connected to a variety of TVs and displays. The CHO4006 also allows you to set up to four favorite channel groups for easy access to your preferred channels.

With this device you can enjoy the HDTV and DVD quality video and audio for free. It supports CC, Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and V-Chip. Through the EPG, you can set up to 10 program timers to remind you of important programs. With YPbPr and Composite Video output, it can be your Big Screen Display Companion. Program list Auto Scan of available channels Change output video aspect ratio Change output resolution, RES valid only for YPbPr Output 4 Software Operation When you press the “menu” key on the remote controller, the following picture will appear on your TV screen. There are 4 sections: the left side is the “main items”, upright is the “name of the main item”, middle is the “sub items of the main item”, the lower side is the “status”. In the first operation, the main items is located on “Channel”. You can choose another main item via or key on the remote controller. For the you can enter the sub items via further information and operation of the different main items and sub items, please see the following paragraphs. When the scan begins, a progress bar will appear on your screen. If there are programs available, that information will be shown on the screen. Channel-Auto scan for the available TV channels Move the arrow key to “auto scan” then choose “yes” for auto scan all the available channels. 7 During scanning, you will see a progress bar and channel information. Channel edit: edit the channels that already scanned and stored Use the arrow key to select “Edit” sub item, press “OK” to enter the Channel Edit screen. Channel Edit screen. All available channels will show on the list. To delete a channel use the arrow key and press “OK”. The deleted channels will not show up when you press CH+/-, or when you press ”LIST” on your Remote. 8 Favorite channel: edit the favorite channels Use arrows key to select “Favorite” sub item, then press “OK” to enter the Favorite Channel list. Favorite channel screen. All the channels are listed on this screen. Set your desired channels via the 4 colored keys. Each color indicates a different favorite group. Please Note: when you use the “Auto Scan” or “Default” functions, all favorite channel lists will be cleared. 9 Video : Changing the setting of the video output of ATSC Set Top Box Please Note: Incorrect settings will cause serious distortion of the video on your TV screen. If you are not familiar with these adjustments, please do not adjust any items. If you have made incorrect settings, you can restore this box via the “return to default” function Picture control Use the arrow key to select main item “Video”. Use the arrow key to choose “Picture Control” then press “OK” to enter the Picture Control screen. 10 Picture control screen. Use the controls to adjust the output video characteristics, such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, tint, saturation, and color temperature. Please Note: if you are not familiar with these settings, please do not make any adjustments. Aspect ratio Select the video output Aspect Ratio according the TV aspect ratio. Letter box on a 4:3 TV If the video is 16:9 aspect ratio, this mode will show all video and maintain the aspect ratio in a normal 4:3 TV. The top and bottom of the screen will be blank. Pan and scan on a 4:3 TV If the video is 16:9 aspect ratio, the video will fill the screen and maintain the aspect ratio in a normal 4:3 TV. The left and right part of the video will be cut. Ignore on a 4:3 TV If the video is 16:9 aspect ratio, the video will fill the screen in a normal 4:3 TV but part of the original 16:9 picture will be lost. Letter box on a 16:9 TV If the video is 4:3 aspect ratio, this mode will show all video and maintain the aspect ratio in a wide screen 16:9 TV. The left and right of the screen will be blank. Pan and scan on a 16:9 TV If the video is 4:3 aspect ratio, the video will fill the screen and maintain the aspect ratio in a wide screen 16:9 TV. The top and bottom part of the video will be cut. Video-Aspect Ratio Use arrows key to choose Aspect Ratio of your video output. Please Note: if you are not familiar with these settings, please do not make any adjustments. 11 Audio: adjustment of settings for audio output of ATSC Set Top Box Please Note that incorrect settings will cause loss or distortion of audio. Use the arrow key to select “Audio” main item. There are 3 sub items. Use the arrow key to select “Audio Control” sub item, then press “OK” to enter the audio control screen. Audio control screen. Use the controls to adjust volume, bass, treble and balance of audio output. Please Note: if you are not familiar with these adjustments, do not adjust any items. 12 Audio Sound: control the audio output Use arrow key to select the “Sound” sub item. Select the desired output audio channel. Speech: Choose the desired language Use the arrow key to select “language” sub item. Select the desired audio language. 13 EPG (Electronic Program Guide): This feature sets the EPG display format. It is a very convenient feature of the digital ATSC. You can view the program info before watching the program. Use arrows key to select “EPG” main item, there are 5 sub items. EPG-Present Use arrow key to select “Present EPG” This screen will show all the channels in the EPG list at the present time. Use arrow key to check EPG of desired channel. The information will show in the upright blank area. 14 EPG Daily To view the daily EPG information of the channel you are watching, use arrow key to select the “Daily EPG” sub item, then press “OK”. Daily EPG information will appear as shown. Use the arrow key to check detailed EPG information. EPG Reservation When you see a program you don’t want to miss, press the RED key on the info bar to enter the “Reservation” function. Select the desired reservation Mode: OFF, ONCE, DAILY, MON to FRI, or WEEKLY. To confirm your selection, press “OK”. After setting the reservation, the video will automatically change to the program at the desired time. 15 EPG update To update the EPG information, use arrow key to select “UPDATE EPG”, then press “OK”. A progress bar will appear on the screen. EPG-Reservation List Select “Reservation List” to view a list of the reserved channels. 16 Set Up: the major setting of the ATSC box. These are very important settings; incorrect settings could cause serious problems. This main item is the most important. There are 6 sub items. Setup-Parental Control. User can set parental control settings. Please Note: be sure to retain your parental password in a safe place. If you forget your parental password, you will not be able to unlock channels that you have set to lock. Use arrow key to choose “Parental Control”, then press “OK”. Enter your password at the system prompt. When the password is verified. there will 4 options. The first is “Channel Lock”. 17 Channel lock screen. This will show all the channels available. Use arrow key to select the channel and press “OK” to lock the channel. Setup-Parental Control-Movie Rating The second item is “Movie rating” Movie rating screen. Select which rating is to be locked or lock all or unlock all. After completing the setting, use arrow key to “SAVE” button and press “OK”. 18 Setup-Parental Control-TV Rating The third item is “TV rating” TV rating screen. Select which rating is to be locked, or lock all or unlock all. After completing the settings, use arrow key to “SAVE” button and press “OK”. Setup-Parental Control-Change Password Select this sub item to change the current password to a new one. 19 Setup-Caption Select “Caption” to change the setting of the close caption format. Setup-Caption-Close Caption There are 4 options. The first is “close caption”. Select “Off” or “On” to stop or start the close caption feature. Setup-Caption-Analog CC Mode Choose the analog CC selecting “Analog CC mode”. 20 by Setup-Caption-Digital CC Mode Choose Digital CC by selecting “Digital CC mode”. Setup-Caption-User Define Style Select “User-Define Style” to personalize the Close Caption Style Close Caption Style. Select Pen Size, Pen Style, Text Color, Text Opacity, Background Color, and Background Opacity 21 Setup-Language Select the language of the OnScreen Display. Choose English, Spanish, or French. Setup-OSD Setting Use this sub item to change the appearance of the On-Screen Display. On-Screen Display display time setting 22 Setup-Time Zone Select Time Zone setting to set your time zone. Time Zone setting Setup-Default Select “Default” sub item to reset the Set top box to factory default settings. Select “Yes” and press “OK” on your remote. 23 Setup-Default-System Info Select “System Info” for information on the hardware and software of this device. This screen displays the current model and software version. The “Firmware” function would be used by a service center or authorized technician to perform a software upgrade. 24 The “Open Console” function would be used by a service center or authorized technician to connect to a PC.
