Quick Start Guide 7 2-Bay RAID System for 2.5" SATA HDD Package contents Installation CD HDD mounting screws RAID system Mini-USB USB-A cable FireWire 800 eSATA cable cable Features Storage Bag Quick Start Guide 3 Remove the screw for one HDD • Dual 2.5" drive RAID housing • Choice of USB 2.0, FireWire 800, or eSATA interface • Convenient, low-profile desktop form factor • Supported modes: JBOD, RAID 0 (striping), RAID 1 (mirroring), and Span (large) • RAID Master software for easy RAID setup • Time Machine compatible DC IN Power button AC power adapter eSATA FireWire 800 holder, then remove the holder from the RAID case. HDD holders Disk 1 connector Disk 2 connector MiniUSB LED panel Power HDD 2 4 Turn the hard drive over (label side down), line up the screw holes on the HDD holder with the screw holes on the drive (the end opposite the connectors), then secure it with two HDD screws. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the other HDD. 5 Carefully insert each HDD’s SATA connectors into the SATA connector in the RAID case, then secure each HDD’s holder to the RAID case using the screw you removed in Step 3. HDD 1 System Requirements PC • 266 MHz or faster CPU • 64 MB RAM • Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, or higher • One available USB 2.0, eSATA, or IEEE 1394b port MAC • Macintosh PowerPC or Intel processor • 64 MB RAM • Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel) or higher • One available USB 2.0, eSATA, or IEE1394b port Installing hard drives into the RAID case 1 Turn over the RAID case, remove the four Phillips screws on the bottom, then turn the RAID case right-side up. 6 Place the cover back on the RAID case, then turn it over and secure it to the case using the four screws you removed in Step 1. 7 Connect the AC power adapter to the RAID system. NOTE If you connect the RAID system to your computer with the FireWire 800 interface cable, you don’t need to connect the power adapter. 8 Connect the USB, eSATA, or FireWire 800 cable to the appropriate ports on the RAID system and the host computer. The RAID system should be connected to the host computer by using only one interface cable. Using multiple interface cables can lead to data corruption. 9 Turn on the RAID system by pressing the power button. 2 Lift the cover off the RAID case, exposing the drive connectors inside the unit. NOTE To turn off the RAID system, press and hold the power button for at least three seconds. When the RAID system turns on, the power LED turns white, and the HDD LEDs turn blue, flashing until the HDDs are detected. If, for some reason, an HDD is not detected, its LED turns red. Power A message appears asking you to confirm the HDDs being erased. HDD 2 HDD 1 TIPS We recommend the Silicon Image eSATA host controller for getting the best performance from the eSATA interface with your RAID system. 5 Click Yes. RAID Master reformats the RAID system’s HDDs for the RAID configuration you specified. When the reconfiguration is complete, the RAID Status reflects the changes. 6 To check on the status of the RAID system device (not the HDDs themselves), open RAID Master and click the Device Information tab. While using FireWire 800, you can connect other FireWire devices (such as digital video cameras) to the extra FireWire port. Support for more than 2 TB HDDs varies, depending on the operating system of the host computer. This software provides an easy way for you to configure your RAID system. 1 Insert the RAID Master CD into your computer’s CD/DVD drive, then open the “2-Bay” folder. 2 Double-click the driver file appropriate for your operating system. The driver file decompresses. 3 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation. When the software has finished installing, the RAID Master screen opens. 4 Under the Configuration tab, click the RAID mode you want to use, then click Create RAID/Apply. TIP For detailed information on installing, setting up, reconfiguring, and checking the status of your RAID system, see the user manual on the CD.
