SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS & WARNINGS

GENERAL

IMPORTANT – READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY OR SERIOUS INJURY MAY

RESULT.

KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE KEY PROVIDED WITH THE LIFT AT ALL

TIMES.

READ OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS MANUAL BEFORE

INSTALLING, OPERATING, OR SERVICING THIS EQUIPMENT.

V3 Portable System ceiling lift is installed by an authorized contractor or installer.

Your lift is for transferring patients only. Do not use the lift for any other purpose.

Always carry out the daily checklist before using the lift.

V3 Portable ceiling lift is specifically designed for BHM Medical ceiling rail systems, slings and accessories. Slings and accessories designed by any other manufacturer are prohibited and will void warranty. Use only the specified slings and accessories to maintain patient safety and product utility.

V3 Portable ceiling lift is intended to be used for patients within the specified weight limit indicated for the lift. Do not attempt to lift more than the weight limit indicated.

Before attempting to transfer, the patient must be assessed by a qualified professional.

V3 Portable ceiling lift must be used by a caregiver with proper training to work with the patient to be transferred.

ONLY trained and qualified caregivers should transfer a patient. DO NOT attempt to use the lift if you have not been properly trained to do so.

ALWAYS be prepared before attempting to transfer a patient.

DO NOT use a sling that is not recommended for the lift.

NEVER use a damaged, torn or frayed sling.

Always place the sling around the patient according to the instructions enclosed.

FOLLOW lifting procedures outlined in this manual.

USE all controls and safety features only according to the rules specified in this manual.

Never attempt to force a control or button on the lift.

ALWAYS rewind the strap into the lift before transporting in another place.

DO NOT store the charger in a shower, bath or other areas with high humidity.

DO NOT drop the patient lift. Dropping the lift may cause internal damage that is not easily seen. If the lift is suspected to be damaged, take it to an authorized technician for servicing.

IMPORTANT: Keep all components of the lift clean and dry, and have electrical and mechanical safety checkpoints done as instructed in the Maintenance section of this manual.

Replace any precautionary or instruction labels that cannot be easily read.

Avoid violent shock during transportation.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS & WARNINGS

DO NOT use an electric lift in a shower

DO NOT use the lift as a swing or twist the strap. The result of these actions can prematurely break the strap (if twisted continually) and endanger the patient.

SHOCK PREVENTION

AVOID violent shock during transportation.

DO NOT touch or use a lift with bare conductors or a damaged power cord. Electrically live equipment can electrocute a patient. If the lift or the charger has any exposed or damaged wires, contact your local dealer immediately.

DO NOT splash or expose electric parts of the device to water or moisture.

READ the battery and charger instructions thoroughly before using or storing them

FIRE AND EXPLOSION

Batteries may explode, leak and cause personal injury if not disposed of properly.

Do not place or store the battery under direct sunlight or near a heat source.

Do not dispose of in fire.

Do short the battery terminals.

Do not incinerate.

Flush with water if electrolyte (Acid) comes in contact with skin or eyes.

Batteries must be recycled or disposed of according to local law regulations. When returning batteries, insulate their terminals with adhesive tape, otherwise the residual electricity in used batteries may cause fire or explosion.

Inspect all precautionary labels on the equipment. Order and replace all labels that cannot be easily read.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT

OPERATING FEATURES

The lift unit is an aluminium frame based system driven by a gear reduced high torque motor.

Ultra-light, the V3 Portable weights only 6.35 kg (14 lbs) with batteries included.

The lifting capacity is 200 kg (440 lbs).

Electronic soft-start and soft-stop motor controls.

Powered by two (2) 12V, 2.3Ah sealed lead acid batteries.

Intelligent and fast charging system (average 2 to 4 hours to a complete charge)

Capable of 30 transfers at 80 kg (180 lbs)

Universal charger input of 90-240 VAC, output 27-29 VDC 27VA, 50-60Hz.

Easily accessible controls placed in front of the unit.

Manual emergency lowering device.

Emergency stop button easily accessible below the unit.

Emergency brake that operates the same way has a car safety belt.

Anti-crush feature stops the lift when there is no tension on the strap, avoiding any injury to the patient. This feature also prevents the strap from getting twisted inside the machine.

INTRODUCTION

Always carry out the daily checklist before each lift use.

Operating the V3 Portable is simple and requires little instructions. By using the lift, an operator is able to raise, transfer, and lower a patient safely.

IMPORTANT!:

The V3 Portable should not be used in conjunction with any patient slings other than the Ergofit slings that are expressly designed for the system. The manufacturer disclaims any responsibility for improper use employing any other sling.

Instructions provided here are described from the operator’s point of view, ie: when positioned in front of the lift and ready to transport the patient.

EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF

The operator can shut off the electrical power at any time by pressing the red mushroom shaped emergency button under the lift. The button is reset by a half-turn clockwise in the direction of the arrows. First time users should practice the shut-off manoeuvre before operating the lift with a patient. (Fig. 1)

EMERGENCY LOWERING DEVICE

The V3 Portable is equipped with a special safety feature that allows the lift to be lowered even if the electrical system does not operate.

1. Located on the right side of the lift (near the folding sling support), the emergency lowering device is activated by the insertion of the special key included with this manual.

To lower safely a patient, follow these steps:

2. Press on the Emergency shut-off red button under le lift. (Fig 1)

3. Move the lift with the patient over the bed or the wheelchair.

4. Remove the plastic cap covering the Emergency lowering entry; (Fig. 2)

5. Insert the special key into the opening then turn it clockwise to the lower the patient (fig.

3). The key rotation turns the motor directly so for each key turn, the patient will lower slightly. Once the patient is lowered safely on a bed or a wheelchair, remove the key from the lift and call a certified technician to service your V3 Portable.

BATTERY INFORMATION

The batteries included in the V3 Portable Lift are 12 VDC, 2.3 Ah and rechargeable.

They provide 10 to 30 transfers per battery charge.

It may vary depending on the patient weight and the batteries condition.

To prolong the batteries life, plug the charger to the lift whenever the lift is

not in use. Do not worry, the batteries will not overcharge.

The manufacturer uses sealed lead-acid batteries. Contrary to nickel-cadmium, the batteries do not have any memory effect. Therefore, batteries should not be completely drained before recharge.

Do not drain batteries excessively. This will dramatically reduce the batteries life span. If the low battery buzzer sounds, be sure to recharge the batteries as soon as possible.

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

Plug the charger into a wall socket compatible with universal voltage input from 90 Vac to 240

Vac. (Fig.4)

Check to make sure the green light on the charger is illuminated. This indicates that the charger is on.

Plug the charger DC connector to V3 DC inlet.

The charger indicator light turns yellow while the battery is charging. When batteries are fully charged, the charging indicator light will turn off.

The unit is ready to use.

If the battery is low, it will take approximately 2 hours for a full charge.

Connect the charger to the lift when the lift is not in use. At minimum, charge the batteries until the light is yellow before using the lift again. This will extend the life of the batteries.

When you need the lift again, pull out the charger plug from it.

The power cord can remain plugged into the wall indefinitely, convenient for overnight charging.

The charger can either be installed on the wall or be free. If you install it on the wall, the back of the charger is designed to be clipped on screws head.

The lift can be charged for an extended period of time without damaging either the charger or the batteries.

If the green indicator light does not go on when you plug the charger into an electrical outlet, see the "Troubleshooting" section included in this manual.

DO NOT OPERATE THE CHARGER WITH A DAMAGED CORD OR IF

THE UNITS HOUSING HAS BEEN DAMAGED.

DO NOT forcibly bend the power cord or place a heavy object on it. This will damage the cord and may cause a fire or electrical shock.

Do not attempt to use a battery not authorized by the manufacturer. The V3 Portable and its charging system use specially designed batteries by the manufacturer. Using unauthorized batteries may seriously damage the lift or the charger.

The lift should not remain stored for long period of time without charging the batteries

TARZAN HOOK

The Tarzan hook feature is an ergonomic handle serving to transport the lift and a practical way to transfer a patient from one rail to the other without removing the lift or the patient. To do so, follow every steps of this procedure:

1. Bring the V3 Portable at the end of the rail.

Warning: Be sure that the end stoppers on both rails are in place and tightened.

2. Bring the trolley at the end of the rail where the lift will be transferred.

3. Measure the distance between the two trolleys.

4. To adjust correctly the strap length, use two times the distance measured between the trolleys.

L = 2 X the distance between the trolleys

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE TARZAN HOOK IN ANY X-Y RAILS.

Here are some examples of rail path where a transfer with the tarzan hook must not be done. a) Parallel b) 45º angle c) Perpendicular

Any suspended rail with lateral brackets are forbidden.

If any of the diagrams above represents your current installation, DO NOT

USE the Tarzan hook feature. Failure to comply to these warnings could result in serious injury or damage the product.

5. Hook the adjustable strap on the second trolley.

6. Press on the DOWN button on your hand control until the lift is halfway between the rail and the ground.

7. Unfold the Tarzan handle and hook safely the adjustable strap on it.

8. Press the DOWN button on your hand control. This will pull slowly the unit and the patient under your second point of transfer. Do not stop until the lift has completely transferred under the trolley on the other rail. Be sure that your adjustable strap is completely tightened before finalizing the transfer.

9. Unhook the lift from the first trolley and hook it to the second trolley. When the transfer is complete, press the UP button on the hand controller until the patient is in a comfortable height.

10. Unhook the adjustable strap and fold back the Tarzan hook, then you can move the patient through the second unit.

RAISING AND LOWERING THE PATIENT

The hand control can be used to operate the lift while at the same time the caregiver moves to a position where he/she can be with the patient continuously. (Fig. 5b)

To raise the patient:

Touch the “UP” button on the hand control. Keep your finger on the button until the patient is at the desired height, release finger pressure and the unit stops.

Auxiliary “UP” and “DOWN” buttons are located in front of the lift. These controls serve two functions: they are secondary controls in the event the hand control stops functioning or, if two attendants are involved in the transfer, one can use the auxiliary controls while the other moves into a position where they are with the patient continuously. (Fig. 5a)

To lower the patient:

Touch the “DOWN” button on the hand control. Keep your finger on the button until the patient is at the desired height, release finger pressure and the unit stops.

FOLDING SLING SUPPORTS

The V3 Portable lift is set up with folding sling supports that optimize the patient comfort when unfold and optimize its storage space when fold.

The folding sling supports are resistant and safe. Now it is easy and safe to fix the sling straps to the supports. You just put your strap on the security flap and pull it to insert it on the closed hook. The safety flaps will prevent the strap to come out and endanger your patient. (Fig 6)

TRANSFERRING THE PATIENT

Install the patient into the sling according to the "sling instructions" included in this manual. Unwind the strap. Press the DOWN button on the hand control while holding a tension on the strap with the other hand. Note: there must be tension

on the strap for the lift to function.

Attach the carabiner to the trolley (fig. 7) then move lift over the patient.

Lower the lift below the chin and unfold supports before attaching the sling straps (this will avoid facial contact caused by movement of the lift).

Note: for a patient in a prone position, lower the lift near the chest, unfold supports then install the straps. For sling attachments, refer to the "Ergofit slings" section in this manual.

The back of the sling has sewn handles to allow better positioning for the caregiver and enhancing patient safety.

To install a sling, unfold the support on each side of the lift then insert the strap loop on the support and pull gently the strap. The clip support will lower then slide the strap. The strap will be trapped inside the support and the clip will automatically block the entrance. (Fig. 8a). Do not attempt to transfer a patient if the flap is not blocking the support entrance. (Fig. 8b)

BEFORE LIFTING THE PATIENT :

1. Make sure that all straps are attached to the supports.

2. Make sure the patient is comfortable.

3. Make sure the sling is not caught on an obstruction (wheelchair brake or arm of chair).

If any of the above occurs – lower the patient immediately and correct the problem.

If none of the warnings above occurs, lift the patient slightly by pressing the UP button on the hand control.

Lift the unit until the patient’s buttock clears the arms supports of the wheelchair, the top of the bath or the bed before moving the patient. Guide the legs past any obstacles.

When the patient is located above the desired point of transfer and ready to be lowered, press the DOWN button.

Sewn handles are provided on the back of sling to allow better positioning for the caregiver when transferring safely the patient on a wheelchair. Be sure to lock the casters of the wheelchair.

Once the patient is properly seated, loosen the straps and remove the sling from the lift

Hold the lift with one hand at all times when near a patient.

Slide the lift away from the patient. Unhook the lift from the trolley and use the hand control to shorten the strap. You can now remove the sling from around the patient.

When you transfer a patient, be sure to be assisted with another caregiver.

HOW TO USE ERGOFIT SLINGS?

Every patient has different needs. It is very important to choose the right sling based on the patient needs to be transferred as well as their physical ability and size.

All Ergofit slings are made from a Polyester/ Nylon material is soft, pliable, easy to care for, and install. All slings are machine wash and dry in medium temperature. Ergofit slings are covered by a one-year warranty.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING, BEFORE USING A BHM MEDICAL

ERGOFIT SLING.

ALWAYS CARRY OUT THE DAILY CHECKLIST BEFORE EACH LIFT USE.

BHM MEDICAL CEILING LIFTS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR BHM

MEDICAL SLINGS AND ACCESSORIES. SLINGS AND ACCESSORIES DESIGNED

BY ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER ARE PROHIBITED AND WILL VOID BHM

MEDICAL’S WARRANTY. USE ONLY BHM MEDICAL SLINGS AND ACCESSORIES

TO MAINTAIN THE PATIENT SAFETY AND THE PRODUCT UTILITY.

PATIENT TO BE TRANSFERRED MUST BE ASSESSED BY A QUALIFIED

PROFESSIONAL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TRANSFER.

OBSERVE A TRAINED EXPERT TO PERFORM THE TRANSFER PROCEDURES

AND THEN PRACTICE THEM SEVERAL TIMES WITH A CAPABLE INDIVIDUAL

ACTING AS PATIENT BEFORE ATTEMPTING A TRANSFER WITH A PATIENT WITH

LIMITED CAPABILITIES.

Read CAREFULLY all instructions below before attempting to install a sling. IF YOU

HAVE ANY DOUBTS, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL representative.

BEFORE TRANSFERRING A PATIENT FROM A STATIONARY OBJECT

(WHEELCHAIR, BATH OR BED), SLIGHTLY RAISE THE PATIENT OFF THE

STATIONARY OBJECT AND CHECK THAT ALL SLING ATTACHMENTS ARE

SECURE. IF ANY ATTACHMENT IS NOT CORRECT, LOWER THE PATIENT AND

CORRECT THE PROBLEM, THEN RAISE THE PATIENT AND CHECK AGAIN.

Use a sling recommended by the patient’s physician, nurse or medical SPECIALIST as appropriate for the patient’s ability and needs.

DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF PLASTIC BACKED INCONTINENCE PAD OR SEATING

CUSHION BETWEEN THE PATIENT AND SLING MATERIAL. THAT MAY CAUSE

THE PATIENT TO SLIDE OUT OF THE SLING DURING A TRANSFER.

DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM WEIGHT LIMITATION OF THE SLING.

WHENEVER POSSIBLE, HAVE SOMEONE ASSIST YOU TO ENSURE THE

PATIENT’S SAFETY AT ALL TIMES.

Laundry Instructions for all slings:

The following symbols are used on sling labels and related to washing instructions:

HAMMOCK SLING

Inspect each sling for wear, tear or loose stitchings after each wash.

Hammock Sling (THA-S, M & L)

Our most universal sling, the Hammock sling, is a mesh type material that dries quickly but is soft and pliable. The sling has an incorporated head support and an unique straps system that keeps the patient secure in the sling. A special polyester fabric in the seat area helps to reduce friction and makes the sling easy to place around a patient in a chair without lifting or removing the patient. The patient may be transferred in a seated, semi-reclined or fully reclined position. Best choice for most situations – including bathing. Fits all BHM ceiling lift models as well as the mobile lift models. Available in sizes S, M & L. Weight capacity is 250 kg (550 lbs.)

Hammock 6 Strap Sling (THA6-S, M & L)

Almost identical to the Hammock sling above, this sling provides extra security and a tighter fit for patients who are low-tone or who would prefer a more secure feeling. The head support is tighter and the extra straps on the side provide more lateral support. The patient may be transferred in a seated, semi-reclined or fully reclined position. Fits all BHM ceiling lift models as well as the mobile lift models. Available in sizes S, M & L.

Weight capacity is 250 kg (550 lbs.).

Sling Placement - from Chair or Wheelchair

1. The sling has two sides, the white fabric indicates the side that is next to the patient and the label and coloured handles are on the outside. The top of the sling is slightly rounded and the bottom of the sling has a U-shaped design.

2. Lean the patient forward in the chair and make sure that the patient is supported.

Whenever possible have someone assist you to ensure the patient's safety at all times.

3. With the white fabric of the sling facing the patient, grab the sling at the top of the U-shaped and slide the sling down to the base of the spine or coccyx.

4. Tuck the sling down on each side to make sure that it is just slightly under the patient’s buttock. Check for the stitching of the sling handle at the centre to make sure that it is in line with the patient’s spine and bring the patient to the back of the chair or wheelchair.

6. Kneel in front of the patient so that your back is straight and that you are at eye level with the patient. Grab the end of the sling with the white fabric and make sure there are no twists in it. Make sure the white fabric is facing the patient’s leg. Place one hand on the patient’s knee to hold it in place and gently pull the sling forward with the other hand until the edge of the sling is approximately even with the patient’s knee.

7. Place the patient’s foot on your thigh and slide the white section of the sling under the leg.

Option 1 - Bridge (Most recommended)

b) Take the two straps between the legs – these are the short loops – and thread one loop through the other to cross them.

c) Now, take the long strap on the outside of each leg and string it through the inside strap. By crossing the straps as you see here, will form a bridge above the patient’s legs and protect them from any pinching or pressure, as well as keep the knees and hips in line. d) Finally, place the patient’s hands inside the sling.

Option 2 – Leg Separation

Using this method of sling placement will pull the patient’s legs apart. Check with the patient’s physician, nurse or medical specialist before attempting this method. a) Thread the long strap through the short strap on each leg.

b) Each short strap should be looped through the long strap on the same leg. c) Place the patient’s hands inside the sling. See sling placement for leg separation as installed below.

Option 3 – Amputee

Do not use this method of sling placement for a patient who is agitated or spastic.

a) Slide the sling end with the white fabric so that it is all the way under both legs. One sling strap will be on top of the other. b) Thread the long strap through the short strap that is next to it. The photo below shows clearly an example without a patient in it. c) When installed, there should not be any sling material between the patient’s legs. Place the patient’s hands inside the sling.

Sling Placement- from Lying Position

1. Fold the sling in half lengthwise with the white part of the sling on the inside of the fold and place next to the patient to be transferred.

When transferring a patient from a bed, have people on each side of it, or raise the bed rails to ensure the patient does not roll off the bed.

2. With someone there to assist you, carefully roll the patient onto one side. Now place the fold of the sling at the centre of the bed or where the spine of the patient will be. The top of the U-shaped in the sling should be at the base of the spine or coccyx .The top of the sling should be next to the head. Lift the top fold and tuck next to the patient.

3. Lower the patient down on top of the sling. Roll the patient the opposite direction to pull the sling out on the other side.

4. Place the straps in the same way as shown from a seated position for the Hammock sling.

1. Ensure the sling is properly placed around the patient according to the instructions above.

2. Choose the colour of the loop you will need for the position you will be placing the patient in.

If transferring to a seated position, use the loops indicating it.

Always use the same colour loop on the rear shoulder straps for both sides of the sling.

Use the same colour loop on the leg straps for both sides of the sling.

Use the same colour loop on the hip straps for both sides of the Hammock 6-strap sling.

3. Ensure the patient’s arms are inside the sling and that it is not caught on any obstructions

(e.g. wheelchair brake or handle).

QUICK-FIT SLING

Specially designed for patients who are stocky or obese, especially in the midsection, padding around the buttock and leg area helps to provide extra support. Upper portion of the sling is a mesh type material that dries quickly and still soft and pliable. This sling does not provide head support.

The patient may be lifted in a seated, semi-reclined or fully reclined position. Fits all

BHM ceiling lift models as well as the mobile lift models. Available in sizes S, M & L. Weight capacity is 250 kg (550 lbs.)

Do not use the Quick-Fit sling on a patient who cannot support his or her own head.

Sling Placement - from Chair or Wheelchair

Whenever possible have someone assist you to ensure the patient's safety at all times.

1. The sling has two sides, the white fabric indicates the side that is intended to be next to the patient, and the label and coloured handles are on the outside. The top of the sling is straight and the bottom of the sling has a U-shaped design.

2. Lean patient forward in the chair and make sure the patient is supported.

3. With the white fabric of the sling facing the patient, grab the sling at the top of the U-shaped and slide it down to the base of the spine or coccyx. Tuck the sling down on each side of the patient to make sure that it is just slightly under the patient’s buttock. Check the seam for the sling handle at the centre to make sure that it is in-line with the patient’s spine and bring the patient to the back of the chair.

4. Kneel in front of the patient so that your back is straight and that you are at eye level with the patient. Grab the end of the sling with the white fabric and make sure there are no twists in it. The white fabric should be facing the patient’s leg. Place one hand on the patient’s knee to hold it in place and gently pull the sling forward with the other hand until the edge of the sling is approximately even with the patient’s knee.

5. Place the patient’s foot on your thigh and slide the white section of the sling under the leg.

6. Take the two straps between the legs. There is a small loop on each strap right next to the sling. Thread one strap through the other and cross them.

7. By crossing the straps, the knees and hips are in-line.

HYGIENIC SLING

This sling is excellent for changing incontinence pads or to transfer onto a toilet as it provides an open area from the middle of the back to the middle of the thigh. The padding wraps around the patient’s midsection and under each leg. In order to use this sling, the patient must have good muscletone in their shoulders and upper body.

Fits all BHM ceiling lift models as well as the mobile lift and stand up models. Available in sizes S, M & L.

Weight capacity is 250 kg (550 lbs.)

Do not use a Hygienic sling on a patient who does not have good muscle-tone in their shoulders and neck.

Check with the patient’s physician, nurse or medical specialist before using this sling.

5. Tighten the belt until snug by pulling gently on the end of the belt.

6. Kneel in front of the patient so that your back is straight and that you are at eye level with the patient. Grab the end of the sling with the white fabric and make sure there are no twists in it. Make sure the white fabric is facing the patient's leg. Place the patient's foot on your thigh and slide the white section of the sling under the leg.

7. The hygienic straps need not cross to allow better access to the toileting area. With the hygienic sling, the arms of the patient are always over top of the sling.

Designed to assist people with limited ability to walk, this sling helps support and assist in rehabilitation. Fully padded with a security buckle, the sling is comfortable and simple to use. The user must have some weight bearing ability. Fits all BHM ceiling lift models as well as the mobile lift models.

Available in sizes S, M & L. Weight capacity is 250 kg (550 lbs.)

Do not use the Walking sling on a patient who does not have weight bearing ability and good muscle-tone in their shoulders and neck.

5. When raising the patient in the lift, check to make sure the sling sections between the legs are providing a snug support. If there is not enough support, reinstall the sling threading the chest straps through a lower loop (grey or black).

Repeat this step until the lower portion of the sling provides proper support.

MAINTENANCE ON THE V3 PORTABLE

DAILY CHECK LIST

Always carry out the daily check list before each lift use as follow:

Has batteries been charged? Charge the batteries whenever the lift is not in use.

Inspect the lift for any damage. If the lift casing does not look properly aligned or notice any cracks or other damages on the lift – DO NOT USE IT.

If any parts are missing on the lift – DO NOT USE IT.

Attach the lift on the trolley. Inspect the visible strap for any signs of wear, fray or loose threads. If there any evidence of damage – DO NOT USE IT

Inspect the sling for torn or frayed straps or loose stitching. If any of the damage appears

– DO NOT USE IT.

Inspect the adjustable extension strap (if you have this option) for frayed or loose stitches

Inspect if Tarzan hook has any damage (seems loose or notice cracks).

Inspect the folding supports for any cracks or deformation.

Inspect the hook at the top of the strap to ensure that it is properly attached.

If any of these problems occurs during your inspection, do not use the lift or the sling.

Contact your local representative to have lift serviced or the sling replaced or repaired.

INSPECTION AND CLEANING OF THE V3 PORTABLE AND RAILS

Clean the V3 Portable with a dry soft cloth or slightly moistened cloth with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of solvent that may damage the finish

Never put the lift under water.

To ensure a better rolling surface for the trolley wheels, clean inside of the track every four (4) months. To do so, insert a damp cloth in the opening and slide it from one end of the track to the other.

STRAP INSPECTION

If this strap is damaged and shows signs of wear, the acceptable load before rupture can drop rapidly and can endanger the patient or the caregiver.

BHM Medical recommends thoroughly inspecting the strap every two (2) months as follows:

1. Completely unwind the strap.

2. Look for any signs of wear like, loose threaded in stitched areas, noticeable discoloration, side and middle wear. (Fig. 9)

If there are any signs of wear as indicated previously or other visual defects, the strap should be changed immediately. By continuing to use the lift without changing the strap, the caregiver and the patient safety is greatly compromised.

In any case, the manufacturer recommends changing the strap at least every two years.

TRANSFER SLING SAFETY

HOW TO CONDUCT A VISUAL SAFETY INSPECTION ON SLINGS

Lay sling out on a flat surface so that all areas of the sling are visible

1. Check all loops at their connection/stress points. Twists these with your fingers and look for any signs of fraying. Depending on the sling model there may be up to 12 loop points in total. See the diagram of a common sling below to assist you in locating loop points and other key areas.

2. Check the stitching of the entire slings, look for any fraying or loose stitching.

3. Check the sling for heat damage. This may be detected as an over all shrinking of the sling or may be noticed on the padded leg section and be identified by a shrinking or scrunching of the leg portion. Additionally, heat damage may be found on other areas by noticing a brittle or ridged/stiff feel to the fabric.

4. Check the body of the sling for any rips or holes.

5. Check the sling for signs of exposure to bleach. This may be suspected if there is fading of the sling ID and/or caution labels. Reject any sling laundered with bleach.

6. Check the sling for excessive staining. While some staining may occur through use by an incontinent patient other staining may indicate exposure to chemicals.

Failure to pass your inspection in any one of the above areas, demands for safety reasons to remove the sling from service. Remember, if there is ever any question concerning the safe condition of a sling, take it out of service!

BHM Medical Inc. warrants its products to be free from defects in material under normal use and service, within the periods stated below from the date of purchase. Do not return products to our factory without prior authorization. BHM Medical will issue a Return Merchandise

Authorization (RMA) Number. C.O.D. shipments will be refused; all shipments to BHM Medical must be prepaid.

For this warranty to be valid, the purchaser must present its original proof of purchase at the moment of the claim.

The defective unit, assembly or part must be returned to BHM Medical for inspection. The part or components repaired or replaced are guaranteed for the remaining period of the initial warranty.

Limitations and Exclusions:

The warranty above does not apply to serial numbered products if the serial number has been removed or defaced.

No warranty claim shall apply where the product or any other part thereof has been altered, varied, modified, or damaged; either accidentally or through improper or negligent use and storage. Warranty does not apply to products modified without BHM Medical express written consent (including but not limited to products modified with unauthorized parts or attachments), products damaged by reason of repairs made to any component without the specific consent of BHM Medical, or to products damaged by circumstances beyond BHM Medical control. BHM

Medical will solely determine evaluation of warranty claim. The warranty does not apply to problems arising from normal wear or failure to adhere to the instructions in this manual. BHM Medical Inc. slings are void of warranty if not laundered as per instructions on the Sling Label.

BHM Medical Inc. shall not be liable for damages losses or inconveniences caused by a carrier.

This warranty replaces any other warranty expressed or implicit and constitutes BHM Medical Inc. only obligation towards the purchaser. BHM Medical shall not be liable for any consequential or incidental damages whatsoever.
