INSTRUCTION MANUAL

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Make sure to read all the safety precautions below and look at the illustrations before using the appliance.

1. Read all instructions carefully before using.

2. Use the appliance for its intended use only.

3. The appliance is intended for household use only.

4. To protect against the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the appliance into water or any other liquids.

5. Connect the appliance only to an alternating current of the voltage specified on the rating plate and only to an earthed socket.

6. The appliance should always be turned to OFF before plugging or unplugging from outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.

7. Do not allow power cord to touch hot surface.

8. Always disconnect the plug of the appliance from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use.

9. Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged. To avoid a hazard such as the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the appliance, it must be taken to a qualified serviceman or manufacturer or its service agent for examination and repair. Incorrect re-assembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.

10. Place the iron out of the reach of children, close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave the iron unattended while connected to the supply mains.

11. Always place the appliance on a stable, level and horizontal surface or ironing board.

12. Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water or steam. Use caution when using the appliance. If the iron is placed onto the iron rest plate during in use, the iron rest plate may become a hot surface. Do not touch the iron rest plate and the sole-plate until they have cooled down completely.

13. Never use the iron facing towards people because the steam can cause burns.

14. The iron must not left unattended while it is connected to the supply mains.

15. The plug must be removed from the socket-outlet before the water reservoir is filled with water.

16. The iron must be used and rest on a stable surface.

17. When placing the iron on its stand, ensure that the surface on which the stand is placed is stable.

18. The iron is not to be used if it has been dropped, if there are visible signs of damage or if it is leaking.

19. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

20. The appliance is not intended for use by children or other persons without assistance or supervision if their physical, sensory or mental capabilities prevent them from using it safety.

21. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

22. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Fabric Setting Chart

Check the garment label first and then set the required ironing temperature at the adjustable temperature knob. To prevent damage to the fabric being ironed, follow the temperature guide carefully. Test the inside of the hem for the garment.

Ironing Temperature

Setting Guide

1. Follow up the ironing instructions on the garment label. If there is not any instruction label, but you know what kind of the fabric is, please refer to the fabric setting chart described in this instruction manual.

2. The fabric setting chart is only valid for plain fabrics and not for materials to which finishes, glosses etc, have been applied. Textile to which some kind of finish has been applied (gloss, crinkle, relief etc.) is best ironed at lower temperature.

3. First sort laundry according to Fabric Setting Chart: wool with wool, cotton with cotton, etc.

4. The iron heats up more quickly than it cools down. Therefore, start ironing articles that need to be ironed at the lowest temperature, such as those made of synthetic fibres.

5. If the fabric consists of various kinds of fibres, always select the temperature required by the most delicate fibres, i.e. the lowest temperature. If, for example, an article consists of 60% polyester and

40% cotton, according to the fabric setting chart it should be ironed for polyester and without steam.

6. If you do not know what kind of fabric the article is made of, iron a piece of the material which is not visible when you wear to find out the appropriate temperature for your articles.

7. Pure woollen fabrics (100% wool) should be ironed with the iron setting to steam ironing position. It is advisable to set the temperature control button to “Max” position and use a dry pressing cloth.

8. When steam ironing woollen fabrics, shiny patches may occur. You may prevent this by turning the article inside out and ironing the reverse side.

9. After using of steam ironing for cotton fabrics, do not iron articles required by lower temperature (such as nylon etc.) Immediately. It is advisable to adjust the temperature button to the lower setting, waiting for about 2-12 minutes till the power indicator light change from flash to brightness, and then you can start ironing.

Note: Never fill vinegar, perfume, starch, cleaning agent or de-scaling water into reservoir.

Use of your iron

1.Fill reservoir

1. Turn steam control & self clean knob to “ ”.

2. Hold the iron in horizontal position. Open water fill cover, using a measuring cup or other equipments to fill water into reservoir up to Max filling level.

3. Hold the iron in horizontal direction, and then move the iron front and back for about 30 seconds so that limescales in water can be purified by the ion exchange resin in the water cleaning box. If your local water is too hard,it is supposed to mix it with distilled water in a proportion of

50%.

2.Temperature Setting and Indication

1. Connect the appliance to main socket, power indicator light “ ” ON, temperature display indicates OFF. The iron is at standby mode.

2. Once press temperature setting button, temperature setting indicator will roll to another setting. Always this will cycle as follows “ ” > “silk”

> “plyster” > “cotton” > “linen” > “ ” > “silk” , meanwhile, desired temperature shows on temperature display; iron does not be heated up.

While set temperature, corresponding temperature indicator light and temperature display blink. No action to temperature setting button for 3 seconds, the temperature showing on temperature display is the actual temperature of the centre point of the soleplate. The temperature showing on temperature display will be changed along with the soleplate being heated up. When desired temperature has been reached, the buzzer alarms one sound, temperature setting indicator light turns on steadily, temperature display shows actual measured temperature of soleplate.

Special illustration:

1. Temperature setting indicator light blink quickly to indicate that iron temperature is too high, whereas the temperature is too low. When temperature setting light lights up steadily, it indicates that temperature is within the set range.

2. Due to influence from various factors, there will be difference between actual temperature of the centre point of the soleplate and that showing on temperature display.

3.Steam Ironing

1. Connect the appliance to a suitable power socket.

2. Set the temperature setting button to “MAX” position. The power indicator light will blink, which indicate that the unit is being heat up.

Temperature shows on temperature display can be change. When the power indicator light change to light up steadily, buzzer alarms one sound, the required temperature is reached. Temperature shows on temperature display is within the set range.

3. For every first use, press down the burst steam button several times continuously, and then press down the self-cleaning button for about

10-20 seconds to clean the steam chamber.

4. Set temperature setting button to desired position according to different fabrics. Act steam function, steam will come out from steam vents of soleplate. During steaming iron, it is normal that the power indicator light cycle from blink to light up steadily. It is because the appliance is automatically heat preservation.

5. After use, set steam control and self clean knob to “ ” position, disconnect the appliance from power socket.

Note:

1. Pre-heat for about 3 minutes before first time use.

2. When using the steam ironing, if no steam from the steam vent after opened the steam knob, please put on the iron board and iron backwards and forwards several times, that can get it.

3. It is normal that sometimes temperature indicates on temperature display is out of the range of set temperature during steam ironing.

4.Dry ironing

1. Set steam control and self clean knob to “ ” position, fill reservoir with water(refer to Fill Reservoir)

2. Connect to main socket, choose suitable temperature according to

Fabric Setting Chart. Temperature setting indicator light blinks to indicate that the iron start being heated up. Temperature shown on temperature display will not changed all along during heating.

3. When temperature setting indicator light steadily lights up, buzzer alarms once to indicate that desired temperature has been reached, and temperature shown on temperature display is within the range of set temperature, it is ready for dry ironing now.

4. If water spray is necessary, please press Spray button successively, water can be evenly in the fabric(Note: When first time use spray function, please press Spray button for many a times)

5. After use, please disconnect from main socket.

Note:

After dry or steam ironing, change temperature setting button from higher settings to lower, it is proposed not to start ironing immediately since burns may cause on your fabrics by high temperature. Please wait for the temperature display indicator light steadily lights up and then start ironing.If

need to speed up cooling, open the steam knob to produce the steam about

1 minute, till the power indicator light change from flash to brightness,and then you can start ironing.

5.Burst of steam

The Burst of Steam feature provides additional steam for removing stubborn creases.

1. Set temperature control button to MAX position, and steam control & self clean knob at “ ” When the power indicator light illuminates steadily, the required temperature has been reached.

2. Press the burst steam button two or three times in quick succession to obtain more powerful burst steam.It is normal that a small amount of water may be ejected from the soleplate when pressing burst steam button so frequently that temperature of soleplate will be down accordingly. It is supposed to stop pressing burst steam button, and allow it to heat up again.

6.Vertical steam ironing

Follow the steam ironing process, and then hold the iron in vertical position between 15cm away from the hanged fabrics.Press the steam button, this will create vertical steam. This feature is especially used for removing creases from hanging clothes and curtains.

Never perform steam ironing directly on person.

Note:

Power indicator light blinks quickly, which indicate the temperature of soleplate is too high; slowly blinks showing low temperature.

7.Auto shut off

G-980STJ-E: The appliance will automatically shut off if it has been successively used for about more than 60 minutes, and buzzer alarm 6 times. Temperature display shows OFF, power indicator light “ ” blinks. To continue ironing, only press the temperature control button again.

G-980STJ-E-M: When the iron is stationary in horizontal position for about 30 seconds or in vertical position for about 8 minutes, and the buzzer alarms for 6 times, the unit will auto shut off. Allow the iron move front to back, it will be reacted to original fabric setting again.

8.Anti-drip function

This appliance has a safety mechanical protection which can protect water drip from the soleplate when the temperature of steam chamber is so low that it cannot provide steam.

9.Anti-calc system

The water cleaning box is designed to purify hard water and reduce the build-up of lime scale which occurs during steam ironing, this will prolong the working life of your iron.

10.Maintenance

After several use of your iron, a little amount of limescale will be built up in the steam chamber and steam outlet, following up below self-cleaning process, it will be well removed.

1. Fill water into reservoir up to MAX fill level.(Refer to fill reservoir)

2. Place the iron on the ironing rest, and put a sink under the ironing rest to prepare for pouring water and ejecting steam.

3. Set temperature setting button to “MAX” position. Plug the unit into the main socket. Allow the iron to heat up for 2 minutes

4. Disconnect the iron from main socket. Hold the iron horizontally over the sink. Push the self-cleaning button.

5. Boiling water and steam will emit from the outlet in soleplate and wash away the impurities and scale.

6. Move the iron backwards and forwards while this happens. Go on letting steam and water escape until the reservior is virtually empty. Set the steam control &self clean knob to “ ” position.

7. Insert the iron into main socket again. Set the temperature control button to “MAX” position, Let the iron heat up again. The remainder of the water inside the steam chamber will now vaporize.

8. Unplug from power supply and allow soleplate to cool down and wipe it clean with a soft damp cloth.

Note:

1. During self-cleaning, it is suggested to iron on an old cloth.

2. Never use scouring pads, abrasive or harsh cleaners as this may scratch the surface.

Trouble shooting
