Maruson Micro 500, 700, 900 Micro UPS User’s Manual
The Micro 500/700/900 UPS provides surge protection, line conditioning, and battery backup for a single line RJ-11 (1 in/1out) phone, modem, or fax machine. The unit is designed to protect your connected equipment from power outages and surges, and provides up to 40 minutes of battery backup. The UPS also features a cold start function, which allows you to power the unit without utility power.

1. Inspection
The following items are inside the box:

Power cord
Remove the Micro UPS from its packaging and inspect it for any damages that may have occurred during shipping. If any damage is discovered, re-pack the unit and return it to the place of purchase.
2. Placement of UPS
Place the Micro UPS in a protected area that is free of excessive dust and provide at least 7.8 inches (20 cm) clearance on both sides for adequate airflow around the unit.
Avoid direct sunlight.
Avoid excessive heat.
Avoid excessive humidity or liquids.
Avoid excessive dust.
3. Connect UPS to Utility
Use the power cord that came with your UPS to connect the UPS directly to the wall outlet.
Do not power the UPS using a surge suppressor or
power strip.
Battery Charging:
Power Button & Silent Button
Press and hold the button 3 seconds to supply power to the Battery Power Supplied
Outlets. Press and release the button 3 seconds again to switch off power to the Battery
Power Supplied Outlets. Press and release the button 1 second to silence battery backup alarm.
Charging/On AC Indicator
This green LED flashes when the battery is charging. A lit LED indicates the UPS is transferring utility power to the Battery Power Supplied Outlets.
Low Battery/On Battery Indicator
This orange LED flashes when the battery is low on energy. A lit LED indicates the utility power is outside acceptable limits and the battery is supplying power.
Overload/Fault Indicator
This red LED flashes when there is an overload on the unit. A lit LED indicates a fault with the unit.
5 hours
The UPS battery charges whenever the UPS is connected to utility power and typically requires less than 5 hours to charge to 90% capacity. Operating runtime is reduced until the battery is fully charged.
4. Connecting Equipment to UPS
Connect the equipment to Battery Power Supplied outlets.

Connect the computer, monitor, and external drive to the
"Battery Power Supplied" outlets. These outlets provide battery backup, EMI filtering, line conditioning, and surge protection. Battery power is automatically provided in case of power failure.
Beware of the Power Button. It must be pressed and held for 3 seconds to turn "ON" the UPS, otherwise, the
UPS will be disabled and your equipment will not be protected during a power failure.

5. Connect Modem/Phone/Fax Line
(700/900VA models only)
The Micro UPS 700/900 protects a single line RJ-11
(1 in/1out) phone, modem, or fax machine from surges when connected through the UPS. Plug in connecting internet line into the “IN” socket.
Use one more internet line cable in the “OUT” socket and plug one other end to the modem input socket as shown in the chart below.
6. Power On/Off & Silent Button
To turn on or turn off the UPS unit, press this button for
3 seconds. To turn off the alarm on the UPS, press the button for one second.
7. Cold Start Function
When the UPS is off and there is no power utility, it's still possible to cold start the UPS unit to power the loads.
8. AC Auto Recovery
When the UPS is in battery mode and can no longer continue to supply battery power to the loads, UPS will shut down. Once AC power is restored, the UPS will automatically turn on and supply power to loads and charge battery.

Safety Caution
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS - This manual contains important safety, installation, and operating instructions for the Micro UPS 500/700/900 that should be followed during installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries.

Possible Cause
The UPS is not turned on.
Solution
Press and hold the Power button for at least 2 seconds.
LED display does not turn on.
Low battery or battery voltage less than 10V.
Charge the battery at least 8 hours. This UPS utilizes voltage that may be hazardous. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit. The unit contains no user replaceable parts. Only factory service personnel may perform repairs.
This pluggable type A equipment with battery already installed by the supplier operator-installable and may be operated by laymen.
The mains socket outlet that supplies the UPS shall be installed near the UPS and shall be easily accessible.
During the installation of the equipment, it should be assumed that the sum of the leakage currents of the UPS and the connected loads do not exceed 3.5mA.
Unplug the UPS prior to cleaning and do not use liquid or spray detergent.
Connection to any other type of receptacle other than a two-pole, three-wire grounded receptacle may result in shock hazard as well as violate local electrical codes.
In the event of an emergency, press the "OFF" button and disconnect the power cord from the AC power supply to properly disable the UPS.
Do not allow any liquids or any foreign object to enter the UPS. Do not place beverages or any other liquid-containing vessels on or near the unit.
This unit is intended for installation in a controlled environment (temperature controlled, indoor area free of conductive contaminants). Avoid installing the UPS in locations where there is standing or running water or excessive humidity.
Do not plug the UPS input into its own output.
Do not attach a power strip or surge suppressor to the UPS.
Do not attach non-computer-related items, such as medical equipment, life-support equipment, microwave ovens, or vacuum cleaners to UPS.
To reduce the risk of overheating the UPS, do not cover the UPS' cooling vents and avoid exposing the unit to direct sunlight or installing the unit near heat emitting appliances such as space heater or furnaces.
Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries. Released electrolytes harmful to the skin and eyes and may be toxic.
Servicing of batteries should be performed or supervised by personnel knowledgeable of batteries and the required precautions. Keep unauthorized personnel away from batteries.

Keeps your critical peripherals (computer, monitor, etc) up and running even when the power is out.
B: Resettable Circuit Breaker
This resettable circuit breaker will trip when extreme overload is present. Please reduce the amount of equipment plugged into the outlets. Next, reset the circuit breaker by pushing it back in.
C: Phone/Fax/Modem Protection (RJ-11) Port (700/900 models only)
1-In, 1-out RJ-11 port protects phone, fax, and modems from surges in power.
D: AC Input
Battery Recycling Information
UPS contains non-spillable sealed lead-acid batteries. It is important these batteries are properly disposed of. Please see the label on the battery for recycling information for proper battery disposal. If no information is available, please contact your local authorized distributor or Maruson Customer Service at [email protected].
Instruction to Open UPS Cabinet
Required tool: pliers (Needle Nose)
UPS is always in
Battery Mode.
When power fails, back-up time is shorter than normal.
UPS beeps continuously.
PCB failure.
Power cord is loose.
PCB needs to be replaced. Call for servicing information.
Reconnect the power cord properly.
Circuit breaker tripped.
Reset the circuit breaker by pushing it back in.

The UPS is overload. Remove some critical load.
Battery not fully charged. Charge the UPS at least 8 hours.
Battery defect. It might be due to high temperature operation environment, or improper operation to battery.
Replace the battery with the same type of battery. Call for servicing information.
UPS is overloaded. Remove some loads.

Steps:
1. There is a square hole on UPS front panel.
Please insert needle-nose plier into the square hole and then press the plier downwards as (A) shown in below picture.
2. Pull out UPS front panel as (B) shown in below picture.
3. Please release screws on right and left UPS panels to open UPS cabinet completely.
