Double-click the Inspiration Software Icon on your Desktop to open the software program. When the welcome page appears, select “Register Your Software”.

Fill out the registration information completely. All fields with an asterisk are required.

1. Select the correct software platform to register from the drop down menu.

2. Fill in your contact information completely.

3. Insert your 16-digit Serial Number. It must be typed in using all CAPITAL letters and the dashes are required. This number is provided at the time of purchase; usually inside of the DVD case.

4. If your Serial Number was entered correctly, the Registration Number will automatically fill in. Do not alter this number. It is required to generate an activation code that will unlock the full capabilities of the software.

5. Click "Register Now".

6. A License Agreement will appear. Scroll down and click to accept terms.

The software is now registered! Close down the program and reopen by clicking on the software icon on the computer desktop. The software is now fully functional.

Additional Registrations

DIME software products are licensed for one activation so you can register immediately on one personal computer. The serial number cannot be reactivated after it has been registered. Two activations are permitted per serial number at any given time. To install the software on a second computer, request an additional activation from the Help Desk. If your computer has to be replaced or Windows has to be reinstalled, also open a Help Desk ticket to request assistance for an additional activation.

Software Transfer

Once registration is completed and the software is registered, you cannot transfer registration of the SOFTWARE to another person (either an individual or a single entity). This means you cannot sell, trade, or give the software to any other person. Activation codes will only be given to registered users of this software.

Design Page Overview

One of the features that make Word Art in Stitches so user friendly (like the other DIME software platforms), is that all of the designing is done on a single screen. There is no flipping back and forth between program modules to design and view the outcome of your creativity.

Design Information: Provides stitch count, number of colors and design size.

Menu Bar: The Windows menu bar allows alternate access to the features of the program as well as standard Windows features and the My Inspiration Today portal.

Tool Bar: This is where you can choose how to create your design and how to manipulate the design.

Rulers: Right Click anywhere on the rulers to quickly change between Inches and Centimeters, adjust grid settings, show and remove guidelines and center the design in the field.

Tool Box: This panel contains the quick access icons for tools needed to select, change, and view elements of the design.

Properties Box: Displays and allows editing of all of the information about the selected design or object.

Sequence View: Displays design sequence by color and objects within the colors.

Sequence View Tab: Click to display the sequence if the design library is currently displayed.

Design Library Tab: Allows easy, efficient display and access to designs placed in the library file(s) without having to search locations on the computer. Note – This library is shared by all

DIME software programs.

Social Media Options: Click on any of the three social media icons, Facebook, Twitter or

Pinterest, to share the active Design Page as an image and add comments.

Thread/Color Selection: Displays the information about colors and threads of elements in the design. It also allows for color changing, adding and removing.

Open Design Tab(s): Multiple designs may be open at any one time. The current design name is designated with an X next to the name. To switch between open designs, click on the design tab.

Menu Bar

This is a standard “Task Bar” found on Windows based programs as Word Art in Stitches is. You will notice throughout this manual that we will use some of these Elements from the Menu Bar.

A Special addition to this Menu Bar is the “Today” Tab. This special Tab will take you to The

“My Inspiration Today” Opening Screen. Here you will be able to…..

General Options

Preface - It is not necessary to change the defaults in Tools>General Options to use the software. These parameters are designed to provide each user with the software options particular to their machine and personal preferences.

The General Options box allows you to globally change many settings for the software. When you make a change in the General Options box it will keep these settings as default settings every time you open the software. In the General Options you can make changes to the working environment, stitch trim options, grid settings, and digitizing modes.

To access the General Options box:

1. Select Tools from the Windows tool bar

2. Next, select General Options from the drop down menu.

Environment

1. Units: Select the preferred default, Metric or Imperial. This may also be changed for immediate display by right clicking the ruler bar (top and left) of the display screen.

2. Default Style: The style settings are preset stitch lengths, density, pull compensation, etc.; set to sew best on a specific material.

3. Default Thread Chart: The default thread chart is used when you are creating a new design. When loading a design that doesn't have color information, there are numerous thread manufacturers to choose from:

4. Auto match thread colors on loading:

When this is selected, the software will auto-match any design to the

“Default thread chart” when you load a design.

Note – Changes to any of the General

Options may not apply to designs currently open. It will only apply to designs opened after the change has been implemented.

Machine

1. Activate trim if stitch is longer than (mm): The software will automatically add a trim command to the design wherever a stitch is longer that than 30 mm (default). This is a user defined function, and may be changed at any time. Function not available on all machines.

2. Split up jumps longer than

(mm): 12.0 mm. The software automatically splits the distance between jumps to normal stitches of 12 mm increments and inserts them.

12 mm is normally the maximum movement a sewing machine can move before a jump is needed.

3. Remove stitches shorter than

(mm): This is used to clean up designs that are stitched too close. By turning on this function, the software automatically removes any stitches at 0.2(mm) default from the design.

4. Combine jumps when reading: When a design is loaded, the software combines all jump stitches together; adding jumps only if needed.

5. DXF Units: Select whether the measurement units in DXF files should be in inches or metric in the dropdown menu.

6. Frame Out location: This tells the frame out function what direction to move the pantograph, (Top, Bottom, Left or Right) when a frame out command has been inserted. Function not available on all machines.

It is helpful to insert a frame out command after the placement stitching on an appliqué to allow more accessibility to the hoop without having to remove it from the machine. On a single needle embroidery machine, a front or left location would be desirable.

7. Presser foot size (mm): Enter the size of the presser foot. This option ensures adequate clearance when the “fit to hoop” option is used.

Note – Changes to any of the General Options may not apply to designs currently open. It will apply to designs opened after the change has been implemented.

Grid

1. Horizontal

Spacing: Set the horizontal spacing on the grid. Defaults to

10mm metric, or

.50 inches

2. Vertical

Spacing: Set the vertical spacing on the grid. Defaults to

10mm metric, or

.50 inches

3. Maintain aspect ratio: If selected, the numbers will change proportionally when changing either the horizontal or vertical spacing on the grid.

4. Snap to grid: If selected, edit point to the closest grid point when created or selected.

5. Lines Style: Set the style of grid to lines (default).

6. Dots Style: Set the style of grid to dots instead of lines.

Note – Changes to any of the General Options may not apply to designs currently open. It will apply to designs opened after the change has been implemented.

Digitizing

1. Outline input mode: Click the down arrow to select one of three different ways to create stitch outlines: Bezier, Simple draw, and Free hand.

Bezier - this is very common in vector artwork programs.

Instructions

Left mouse click to plot your first point.

Left mouse click to create a straight line.

Left click and drag to create a curved line.

Right mouse click after plotting your last point in order to set the structure.

Simple draw - this is the standard (default) mode for the software. Instructions:

Left mouse click to plot your first point.

Left mouse click to create a straight line.

Left mouse click plus Ctrl on your keyboard to create a curved line.

Right mouse click after plotting your last point in order to set the structure.

Free hand - this is ideal for those using a tablet. Instructions:

Left mouse click and hold while dragging your mouse (or touch the tablet and move your cursor to create the line).

Release mouse click when done.

Right mouse click to set the structure

View

1. Highlight selection: This option will allow the user to turn “off” or “on”

(default) a highlighted color on a selected object. The color of the highlighted object may be changed, at any time, for easier editing. Click the down arrow next to the color selection box to change the highlight color.

2. Show property tabs as icons: If selected, the tabs in the properties box will be displayed as icons instead of names. This option eliminates/reduces scrolling across the tabs when viewing object properties.

3. Use cursors optimized for scaled displays: This option is reserved for future development.

4. Increase double and bean run thickness in 3D view: Check to display a more realistic dimensional view of bean and double run stitches when viewing a design with the three dimension icon selected.

Note – Changes to any of the General Options may not apply to designs currently open. It may only apply to designs opened after the change has been implemented.

File Formats

When saving a design for the first time it is very important to save the file using the .c2s format.

This is the native format for all DIME Embroidery Software programs.

The .c2s version of the file “remembers” all of the features, stitch types, fonts, etc. of the design. Any time the design is re-opened to edit or change, it is best to use the .c2s format. It is a good practice to save and keep any file you may want to stitch again in the .c2s format.

After a file has been saved in .c2s; save it in the stitch format for the embroidery machine. Use the Save As feature to save the stitch file in the proper format for the machine and it may be saved directly to a memory stick, diskette, cd, etc. that the machine will read.

It is not necessary to keep a library of the designs in the stitch format. Any stitch format may be recreated from the .c2s file in the software.

Tool Bar

This is where the majority of your designing will be done. All of the tools you need to create, modify and detail are right at your fingertips! Simply click on these icons to begin your text design using the fonts within that icon category! When you use these icons, the Text Property

Box will automatically appear.

Text

This is what will appear on your design screen.

Tab in the Properties Box to add your personalized Text.

Use the Text Input Box on the Text

This icon will allow you to insert and choose from the pre-installed fonts. This is a comprehensive list of all the fonts available, however specialty fonts like puffy, micro and calligraphy will also be available under their own icon.

Monogram

This is what will appear on your design screen. Use the Text Input Box on the Text

Tab in the Properties Box to add your personalized Text.

This icon will allow you to insert and choose from the pre-installed “Monogram” fonts. The main characteristic of these fonts in a traditional monogram look often seen on shirts, linens and accessories.

Micro Font

This is what will appear on your design screen. Use the Text Input

Box on the Text Tab in the Properties

Box to add your personalized Text.

This icon allows you to insert and choose from the pre-installed

“Micro” fonts. These fonts are specifically digitized to be extra small (as small as 3mm) and are great for stitching large sections of text like poems, recipes and quilt labels. It is important to

note that these fonts are digitized to be stitched with 60 wt. or smaller thread and no larger

than a 70/10 needle.

Puffy Text

This is what will appear on your design screen. Use the Text Input Box on the

Text Tab in the Properties Box to add your personalized Text.

This icon allows you to insert and choose from the “puffy” looking fonts available. The main characteristic of these fonts is using a foam material specifically made for embroidery as an applique material.

Applique Text

This is what will appear on your design screen. Use the Text Input

Box on the Text Tab in the Properties

Box to add your personalized Text.

The Applique Text icon allows you to insert and choose pre-installed fonts designed for applique. The main characteristic of these fonts is that the letters have a “filled” center, usually fabric. The letters stitch efficiently: first color is the placement guide of the first letter; color 2 is the tack down of the first letter; color 3 is the satin outline of the first letter and the placement guide for letter 2. The remainder of the word continues in this fashion.

True Type Fonts

This icon allows you to insert and choose fonts from your font directory on your computer.

These are fonts you may recognize from your word processing software program. Any font listed on your computer’s font directory will be available. If your software is open and you add another font to your computer, you must close the Word Art in Stitches and re-open it for the font to be available for use. These fonts will not show up in the list of pre-installed fonts in the software. Fonts available will vary from computer to computer depending on what, if any, additional fonts have been downloaded.

This is what will appear on your design screen. Left mouse click in the Text Input Box located in the Text Tab in the Properties Box. Type your personalized message on the keyboard.

Calligraphy

This is what will appear on your design screen. Use the Text Input

Box on the Text Tab in the Properties

Box to add your personalized Text.

The Calligraphy icon allows you to insert and choose fonts that are traditionally seen as

“script”.

Bubble Text

Click on the icon to use this feature, or find it on the menu bar under “Tools.”

The Bubble Text Tool is a fun, easy way to create text designs that you may recognize as

“Subway Art”. The Pop Up design window is large and features a large preview area so that you can see your changes, adjustments and design before adding it to the design screen.

Note: By Using the “Import Artwork” Function, you can import artwork on the screen before selecting Bubble. After importing art work, select ‘art work’ and then "Bubble Text" at this point the shape will automatically be brought into the text UI. This function allows you to use your own shapes as outlines for your Bubble.

Area

– There are four options in this section, Shape, Words, Font and Color Theme. This is where you define how you want your Bubble text to look.

Shapes -There are over 550 shapes available for designing your text bubble. To access the

Shapes, click on the box next to the Shape List.

When the Shapes folder is opened, click on the plus sign next to a category to find more shapes. Select your shape, click OK.

The shape appears in the window.

Sizing - There are three ways to size your “bubble.”

Directly type in the size in width and height that you want

Use the toggle arrows next to the number to make adjustments

Once the design is on the design page, use the text nodes to change the size.

The “Keep aspect ratio” box should be checked if you would like your shape to maintain correct proportions. If you want a specific size leave it Unchecked.

Border – the border of the shape can be either a Run Stitch, Steil Stitch or Artwork (remember

‘Artwork’ will not be stitched.) If you want the artwork to appear as a run or Steil outline, click on the arrow next to Artwork in the Border box and select from the drop down menu.

Text Settings

– There are four options in this section.

Words –Type words with at least one space between them. Do not use the return key on the keyboard.

Height – This is the maximum height the letters will be in your bubble.

Orientation – there are four different orientations that the words can be arranged.

Horizontal – the words will be placed in random sizes in a horizontal pattern.

Vertical – the words will be placed in random sizes in a vertical pattern.

Orthogonal the words will be placed randomly, by size and vertical and horizontal orientations within the pattern.

Any – this option will place the words in random sizes, angles and positions within the pattern.

Font Combo – this option allows you to choose the font or combination of fonts you would like to use in the bubble. There are a few default combos for you to choose, but you may create your own.

The icon allows a pop up window to appear to show what fonts are chosen and how they look together. This is a Read Only Pop up window, no changes may be made.

By clicking the icon, the Fonts Catalog in the software will pop up and you can click on the one(s) you would like to use or add to what is already chosen.

There is a “Find” Function in the bottom right hand corner of this pop up window to quickly find a font you know the name of and would like to use.

Once a font or fonts are in the Font Combo box, you can use

icon to remove any font by simply clicking on the font to highlight it and click in the icon.

Micro fonts must be included in the selection or the design will not stitch well. The pre-designed combinations already include at least one micro font.

Object Settings

–There are also four options in this section. Object Settings refers to the contents within the Bubble.

Minimum Size % - This is the minimum allowed percentage of size change allowed.

Maximum Size % - This is the maximum allowed percentage of size change allowed.

Space % - This is the relative space percentage between words and or décor shapes within the bubble. The larger the percentage the more space in between each element. The smaller the percentage, the less space between the elements.

Text Envelopes – Text envelops are a fun way to add movement to words and décor elements within the bubble. By adding an “envelope” the words will take on that shape. Click on the box next to envelop you want to include in the bubble.

Color Theme

– This option allows you to use either pre-set color combinations for both text and décor designs from the drop down menu or create your own color combinations by using the icons in the section.

The edit icon allows you to see the colors in the combination. It is a read-only window.

By right clicking on the Color Theme name that you created in the drop down box, you will be able to delete any combinations you do not want saved.

To make your own or modify pre-selected themes, click the icon. This will open a color theme window. At the top, name your combination and add the colors you would like to use. You will be able to access all your thread charts though this function. As with the Font Combo window the icon will allow you to remove colors.

Décor Combo

– This is a fun option that allows you to add simple designs to your text within the bubble! There are four categories you can choose from.

Apples – 2 designs

Arrows – 4 designs

Boat – 1 design

The default is None. Click the down arrow to select to implement a thread trim after each Chars (character), each Word, or each Line. If the machine does not have a trimmer, this command will naturally be ignored.

Tie in:

Click the down arrow in the box to select None, Basic, Triangular, or Line as the first sewing command of the selected sequence. The function (except for None) is to lock the thread in place so it won’t unravel.

Basic takes a few stitches back and forth on the stitching line before proceeding with the stitching.

Triangular creates a tiny triangle lock before beginning the stitching sequence.

Line takes a few stitches back and forth on the stitching line before proceeding with the stitching.

Tie off:
