Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for installing and configuring the component to send Symmetry events to
Ocularis.

Installing Symmetry to Ocularis Event Service
S P ECIAL NOTES
This plug-in supports Symmetry version 8. It can be installed on any computer that has network access to the Ocularis and
Symmetry servers. It is tested on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.
The Symmetry XML Open Integration Module must be installed and licensed on the Symmetry Server. AMAG provides an
installation manual for that module. The web service component is required. The client and development components are not
used. To test this installation, navigate to the following addresses in a web browser:

Notice that the Symmetry 8 XML installation instructions involve significant additional steps in configuring Windows IIS,
especially if SSL is desired. Symmetry Ocularis Events Service supports SSL, but does NOT explicitly support client certificates.
INS TALLATION P ROCES S
To install this events service, run "setup.exe". Answer the prompts. If .NET 4.5 was not previously installed, that step will take
quite some time, and requires a reboot. Setup will then continue and complete. "Symmetry to Ocularis Events Service" will now
be running in Windows Services.
On the Windows Start page or Start menu, run "Symmetry Ocularis Configuration" found in the "Symmetry to Ocularis" category
or programs folder.
Configure the server connections and desired events.
In configuration, the Symmetry Server User can be any one that can view the desired events and devices in the Symmetry
interface. Specifically, it must have "View/History/Activity" and "View/Command Center" rights and be a member of the correct
Company Group where appropriate.

Ocularis Server
o Host - IP address for Ocularis Base
o Source Name - what is displayed in the Ocularis Administrator under Events
o Guid - not changeable
o Base User - username for the Ocularis system
o Password - password for the Ocularis system
Symmetry Server
o Host - IP address of the Symmetry server (in this example localhost)
o User - username for the Symmetry system
o Password - password for the Symmetry system
o Use SSL – checkbox for using SSL for login
Click Save.
Use the Ocularis Server ‘Test’ button to confirm the connection to Ocularis.

Use the Symmetry Server ‘Test’ button to confirm the connection to Symmetry.
You must have proper connection to Ocularis and Symmetry to proceed.

Ocularis Administrator Configuration
Some configuration is required on the Ocularis Base. Use the Ocularis Administrator application to configure the
Base.
1.
Log into Ocularis Administrator.
Symmetry events will appear under the Events pane of the Server / Events tab.
2.
Follow the standard procedure to map Ocularis cameras to Symmetry events as you would any other
events. Ensure you have the appropriate privileges to any cameras used in the mapping and that the events
are included in corresponding Distribution Groups.

Ocularis Client Operation
Log into the Ocularis Client. Display a view that contains a Blank Screen. When an Symmetry or any other
configured event occurs, any combination of the following may result:
•
Video from an associated camera will display in the Blank Screen
•
Sound configured to the event may be played
•
An email may be sent to authorized recipients
•
A PTZ camera may be moved to a configured preset
•
ASCII or binary data from Oculars may be sent to a designated recipient
•
HTTP requests may be generated
