Step 1 Inspect your water heater supply lines:
If the supply lines are old and inflexible they will need to be replaced.
Step 2 Turn off water heater:
Electric - turn off power by either unplugging the water heater or shutting off the appropriate breaker
Gas, propane or heating oil - turn off water heater and make sure the pilot light is turned off.
Step 3 Turn off water:
Turn off the water to the water heater. In most cases there is a valve located above the water heater on the cold water supply line.
Step 4 Drain the hot water lines:
Turn on any hot water faucet in the house and let it run until the water stops flowing. Leave the faucet on for the duration of the installation. Drain remaining hot water using the hot water spigot on the water heater.
Note: If water continues to flow, check to make sure that the water has been completely turned off. If the valve does not shut off the water flow completely turn off the valve supplying water to the house or at the water meter.
Step 5 Disconnect the hot water supply line:
Unscrew the hot water supply line at the hot water discharge (typically the left supply line).
Note: The pump and Flow Monitor can be installed on either the cold water pipe going into the water heater or the hot water pipe going out of the water heater.
Make sure that the arrow on the pump and the arrow on the Flow
Monitor are pointing in the direction of flow.
See pictures below.

Step 6A Install a 3/4" FIP x FIP fitting (coupling, union or dielectric union - available at any home improvement store):
Wrap Teflon tape or apply pipe dope to male cold water discharge pipe. Carefully thread the
3/4" fitting onto the cold water discharge pipe coming out of the water heater.
Brass Coupling Dielectric Union
Step 7A Install the Flow Monitor:
Brass Union
Wrap Teflon tape or apply pipe dope to the male threads of the Flow Monitor. Install the Flow Monitor directly into the 3/4" fitting making sure the arrow is pointing down (the direction of water flow).
Note: The Flow Monitor will not work properly if the arrow is pointing up.

Step 8A Install the Pump:
Make sure the gasket is inserted in the female end of the Flow Monitor. Carefully thread the pump into the Flow Monitor with the arrow pointing down (the direction of water flow).
Note: Do not over tighten.
Note: Do not use Teflon tape or pipe dope.
Step 9A Reconnect hot water supply line and turn on water:
Screw hot water supply line onto the pump. Make sure that a hot water faucet is turned on in the house and then slowly turn the water back on to the water heater. Check for leaks and repair as necessary. Leave the water running until all of the air has been purged from the water pipes. Turn off the faucet.

Step 8B Install the Flow Monitor:
Make sure the gasket is inserted in the female end of the Flow Monitor. Carefully thread the Flow Monitor on to the pump with the arrow pointing up (the direction of water flow).
Note: Do not over tighten.
Note: Do not use Teflon tape or pipe dope.
Step 9B Reconnect hot water supply line and turn on water:
Screw hot water supply line onto the Flow Monitor. Make sure that a hot water faucet is turned on in the house and then slowly turn the water back on to the water heater. Check for leaks and repair as necessary. Leave the water running until all of the air has been purged from the water pipes. Turn off the faucet.
Step 10 Connect the pump and the Flow Monitor:
There are 2 toggle switches that control the speed of the pump and how it works. The first toggle is located in the power cord and contains the connection box that the Flow
Monitor wire snaps into .
Connect the wire from the Flow Monitor to the connector in the electrical wire from the pump. Set toggle switch to the Auto setting.
Set pump toggle switch to 3 for the highest speed.
Step 11 Plug the pump in:
Plug the pump into a properly grounded 110 vAC outlet.
Note: Route the cord away from any vents on gas, propane or oil fired water heaters.
Step 12 Test pump operation:
Turn on any hot water faucet in the house to start the pump. Turning off the faucet will stop the pump (assuming that the Bridge Valve has not been installed yet).
Note: If the Bridge Valve has been installed the pump will continue to run until 95° F water reaches the sink where the Bridge Valve is installed. The temperature sensor in the Bridge
Valve will shut off and the water will stop flowing (unless a hot water faucet is open).
Bridge Valve

Installation
Location:
The Bridge Valve should be installed under the kitchen or bathroom sink at the farthest fixture from the water heater. Branched plumbing systems will need a Bridge Valve at the end of each line. Additional Bridge Valves are available at www.FasterHotWater.com
.
Note: Do not use Teflon tape or pipe dope on Bridge Valve connections.
The Bridge Valve can be used with both 3/8" and 1/2" angle stops (the valves under the sink).
Bridge Valve Installation
3/8" Angle Stop Installation:
1. Turn off both the hot and cold angle stops (valves) below the sink
2. Place the supplied washers in female end of adapters.
3. Attach adapters to both "Cold Water Out" and "Hot Water Out" ports of the Bridge
Valve. Tighten adaptors finger tight plus a quarter turn with a wrench.
4. Disconnect existing hot water supply line from the hot angle stop and connect it to the adapter installed on the "Hot Water Out" port of the Bridge Valve.
5. Disconnect existing cold water supply line from the cold angle stop and connect it to the adapter installed on the "Cold Water Out" port of the Bridge Valve.
6. Connect the new 1/2" x 3/8" flex hose to the hot water angle stop (3/8" side) and the "Hot
Water In" port (1/2" side) of the Bridge Valve.
7. Connect the new 1/2" x 3/8" flex hose to the cold water angle stop (3/8" side) and the
"Cold Water In" port (1/2" side) of the Bridge Valve.
8. Open both the hot water and cold water angle stops and check for leaks.
9. If desired, the Bridge Valve can be mounted to the wall with the mounting screws.
1/2" Angle Stop Installation:

Bridge Valve
TM
Operation
The following steps will determine if the Bridge Valve is operating correctly.
1. Close the cold water angle stop (valve) below the sink.
2. Quickly turn the hot water faucet on and then off to activate the pump.
3. Open the cold water faucet.
4. Water should flow from the faucet until warm water (95° F) reaches the Bridge Valve.
The flow should gradually decrease until no water is coming from the faucet at which time the Bridge Valve has closed.
