Herschel Far Infrared Panel Heaters
You have just purchased the latest advance in Far Infrared heating from Herschel Infrared Ltd - a world leader in Far
Infrared heating. Herschel panel heaters work using Far Infrared technology. The components are of high quality, are
environmentally sustainable and are designed to last for many years without any need for servicing.
Please read this manual thoroughly before use. With the correct installation and operation, your panel heater will give you
satisfaction for many years to come. If you do not understand or are unsure of any information contained in this manual
please contact us for clarification at any time.
General Information
The Herschel panel heater works by producing Far Infrared heat. This is different to a conventional convection heater.
When using the heater for the first time, the cold surroundings (ceiling, floor, furniture, walls} in your building have to be
heated up first before the heater becomes fully effective. The heater should be kept powered on until the desired room
temperature is reached.
Depending upon the ambient temperature and characteristics of the building, this process can last from a few hours up
to a few days. Once all solid materials are warmed up and the room is at the desired temperature, the heater can be
regulated by a thermostat (not included with the heater).
For efficient and energy-saving heating performance we recommend the use of our Herschel IQ system or a wireless
temperature control.
Intended Use
The Herschel panel heater is designed to be used as a wall or ceiling heater. Careful following of the advice in this manual
is key to maximising the heating and efficiency benefits.
To get the very most out of your heater, full installation planning guidelines may be found in our free training course
“Planning an Infrared Installation”, available online at www.herschel-infrared.com.
Safety Advice
Herschel panel heaters are designed for use with an AC voltage 230 Volt, 50Hz.
The Herschel panel heater will become hot when in use. Use the heater only as described in this manual, otherwise there
are risks of danger to humans, animals and the environment. This heater is not intended for cooking or for any other
purpose other than the heating of people and buildings. The panel heating element must not be used by persons
(including children) with limited physical or mental capabilities without a supervisor.
Keep out of the reach of children. Children will not appreciate the danger of electrical devices. Do not give children
access to the panel heater without supervision.
DO NOT cover the unit as this may block airflow and cause the heater to malfunction and could lead to the unit
overheating and becoming a fire hazard.
DO NOT touch the heater when in use. Herschel panel heaters have a surface temperature of up to 95°C / 248 F).
To avoid the risk of burns, do not touch the heater when in use.
DO NOT plug the heater into a broken power socket. DO NOT operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug or after
the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Check each heater for damage before
installation. Make sure that the heater itself, the plug and cable are free of any visible signs of damage.
DO NOT pull, clamp, bend or in any other way damage the connecting cord attached to the panel.
Return the heater to an authorized service facility for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment or repair.
Herschel panel heaters will not withstand prolonged direct contact with water.
Extreme caution and special advice is recommended if fitting the heater above or around bathtubs, sinks, swimming
pools and any other water container where there is a risk of water making contact with the heating panel or the panel
falling into water. Herschel Infrared Ltd shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury caused or resulting from
inadequate fitting or incorrect placement of heaters close to water sources.
Herschel glass panel heater models consist of ESG (security glass). This is a special mechanically stabilized glass, which will
break in small, edgeless pieces. Nevertheless the mounting location should be chosen in such a way that persons will not
be in danger by a possible break in the glass.
Attention: Avoid stressing the glass mechanically. If the glass is damaged, disconnect the heater and do not put it into
operation again. Dismount the heater immediately to reduce the danger of direct impact from falling pieces.
Herschel infrared panel heaters are not equipped with a temperature regulator.
For mounting the Herschel panel use the supplied mounting hardware only. Herschel Infrared Ltd cannot accept
responsibility for damage, loss or injury caused by, or resulting from incorrectly installed equipment. The panel must be
used with original frame only, otherwise the warranty is void. Herschel Infrared Ltd will not assume liability for
consequential loss however caused.
WARNING: Installation should only be carried out by trained and approved engineers or competent persons.

The Herschel panel heater must be remounted, cleaned and transported in a cold condition only.
The minimum distance from the back side of the panel must be 25 mm to the wall and 25 mm to the ceiling. This will
always be the case if the mounting hardware provided is used.
The minimum distance to other objects must be 400 mm on the front and 200 mm on the sides.
Never locate the Herschel panel heater where there is a risk that it could be detached from the fittings and fall into a
bathtub, shower, swimming pool or other water container. Installation in potentially wet or humid rooms such as
bathrooms must be carried our by a suitably qualified installer and must comply with the standards VDE 0100 part 701,
702 and 703.
Herschel Inspire panel heaters are protected against splashing water to IP54 standards and Herschel Select panel
heaters are protected against splashing water to IP44 standards but do NOT install the panel in damp rooms where
direct water contact with the heater is possible.
When the heater is placed in public space, installation must comply with the standards VDE 0108.
It is important that the electrical circuit used by the heater can be disconnected and de-activated by switch, fuse,
residual-current device (RCD), ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) or thermostat at all times.
DO NOT drill through the Herschel heater panel as this can cause irreparable damage.
To ensure operational safety, DO NOT connect a heater that is damaged in any manner to the power network.
Wall Mounting (Step by Step)
See enclosed instruction sheet.
Ceiling Mounting (Step by Step)
