Section No.3

Electrical works.

1.

SCOPE:-

The woks covered by this section of the specifications consists of furnishing all labor, equipment, tools and materials and in performing all running Repair/

.Maintenance contract work with providing installing, testing, completion and commissioning of Electrical installation and equipments, complete in strict accordance with this section of specifications and the drawing and subject to the terms

& conditions of the contract of the following major works of repair / maintenance ofHT/LT Operational installation / equipment in PQA area.

• HT Distribution System.

LT Distribution System.

• Earthling System.

Fault Locating ofHT/LT Cable Network.

Panting of Steel Structures.

• Lighting Protection System.

Internal and External Illumination.

Internal Power Distribution Network.

2.2

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS a).

The entire electrical installation works shall be carried out by licensed workmen, authorized to undertake such work under the provisions of the Electricity Act 1910 and Pakistan Electricity rules

1937 is adopted and modified uptodate by Government of Pakistan.

b).

The contractor shall be fully familiar with the latest edition of the

Regulations of the Electrical Equipment of Buildings,

14th edltion

1966, issued by Institute of Electrical Engineers, London,

Standard code of Practices, Electricity Rules 1937, by-laws that are in force from time to time, and all works shall be carried out in accordance with the Regulations mentioned above. Any discrepancy between the specifications in the contract and above Regulations all be brought to the notice of Engineer for his instructions.

c).

The Contractor shall be responsible for submitting the test certificates and having the installation passed by Government

Electrical Inspector for that Region. All requirements of the Electric

Inspector shall be complied with.

Substitute Materials

For items differing from the type and make specified, herein or for items specified as 'approve or equivalent' or for any item which requires the approved by the Engineer, the contract shall submit in duplicate completed data within 45 days after the award of

Contracts. If the Contractor fails to submit the required approval data within specifled 45 days, it shall be entertatned to mean that

'the contractor shall furnish equipment as specified request for approval of substitute materials after 45 days shall be considered by the Engineer, only if he is satisfied that due to circumstances beyond the control of Contractor the specified material is not available and can not be obtained in time to prevent unnecessary delay of construction.

The data supplied shall include apart from technical detatls, all changes which may be required in ducts, piping, structure and all.

Manufacturer's Instructions

The contractor shall supply to the Engineer eight (S) copies of manufacturer's instruction manuals, where applicable, for installation, operating and maintenance of equipment supplied.

Marking!

The Contractor shall provide "Danger Board" and "Shock Charts" whenever required to comply with the requirements of local

Electricity Rulesand accordingto normal practice.

i).

Guarantee

The Contractor shall furnish written guarantee of the manufacturer or supplier against performanceof each equipment which shall be for replacement and repair of or part or whole-equipment which

- may be found defective in material or workmanship.

The guarantee shall cover a minimum period of 12 months, after commissioning of the equipment. The guarantee of manufacturer shall not relieve the contractor of his obligations and shall be fully responsiblefor the repair or replacementof any defective material in time so as not to cause any undue delay in repairs and replacements.

j).

factory Tests

All type and routine test on the electrical installed equipment/ material and all other equipment shall be performed at the manufacturers works in the presence of Engineer or his representative.Types tests may be waived off in case the certified test certificates are produced,issuedby some standard laboratories of international repute, but nearly producing certificate will not be sufficient in caseof routine tests.

The contractor shall inform the Engineer about the date and time of the tests on each equipment atleast two weeks in advance.All

test results shall be supplied in duplicate for the Engineers and

Authorities record. The Witnessingof test by the Engineer or his representative shall not absorb the contractor from his responsibility for the proper functioning of the equipment and for furnishing the guarantee referred to para (i) above.

k).

Camps

The space for establishment for site office/camp area will be provided by PQA till completion of work free of charge. The contractor has to establish the facilities required for completion of the job at his own expenses.

General

The high tension underground c~ble shall be suitahle for normal service voltage of 11 KV.

The cable shall copper conductor three core, cross linked polythene insulated shielded, armoured and sheathed with a PVC jacket, suitable for indoor and outdoor use in transmission and distributiollof electrical energy.

The cable shall be capable of operating contingously at a conductor temperature of not more than 90 C and shall be rated upto and includinq l5,UOO Volts in a

50 cycles, 3 phase ungrounded neutral system.

(2) Construction

(f) Grip type jointing sleeve shall be provided for jointillq the conductor.

The split sides of the sleeves shall be made open 'wide enough to be put over the conductor to be joined~ The sleeves shall have weak backs to facilitate closing round the conductors.

(g) A bill of qtiantity of all splicing material e.g.

copper connectors, solder, sealing compound, abrasive cloth, ground clamps, tapes (insulating, friction, cotton, plastic and semi-conducting), shielding and grounding braids shall be furnished by the tenderer alongwith a sectional dimensioned drawing and detailed descriptiv~ splicing instructions.

3b LOW TENSION CABLE

(1) General

All cables for power distribution, distribution boards, external distribution, d.c. power supply, light, al.arm, communication and L.T. circuits wiring shall be PVC insulated complying with BS 6746: 1969 of specified voltage grade and having stranded or solid, high conductivity soft annealed copper conductor complying with BS 6360-1969. "Copper conductors in insulated cables and cords". All cables shall be as manufactured by Pakistan Cables Ltd. or approved equivalent.

Power and Lighting Cables

Cables for various buildings from Main L.T. Switchboar~, for underground installation shall be 600/1000 volt grade

PVC insulated, PVC sheathed, unarmoured in protective pipes.

Cables for external illumination shall be 600/1000 volt grade and shall be insulated, PVC steathed, un-

~rmoured in protective pipes, es deEcribed above or PVC lnsulat~d, PVC tapped and bedded, single galvanized steel Wlre armoured and extruded 01ack PVC sheathed overall.

(4) Phase Identification Colours

All cables shall have phase id~ntification colours on insulation of each phase. The colour code for power circuits shall be red, yellow and blue for phase conductor and black for neutral conductor.

Light circuits shall have the same colour code as for power cables. Other light circuits shall be red for phase and black for neutral conductor. All d.c.

circuits shall have red colour for positive and bl~ck for negative conductor.

11 KV SWITCHBOARD

(I) Construction

The 11 KV switchboard to be installed at the Sub-

(a) The rupturing capacity of the switchboard at 11 KV shall be 350 MVA symmetrical.

(b) The switchboard asse~bly shall be suitable for future addition of units on each side.

(c) An earth bar shall .be provided extending to the entire length of the switchboard.

Two earth terminals shall be provided for connecting the body of the switchboard to earth as required.

(d) ·All control switches, meters, meter switches, luminous signalling and position indicating lamps, protective relays etc., shall be mounted flush on the instrument chamber on the front side of the panel.

The cable termination arrangement shall be suitable for 3 core copper conductor, crosslinked polythene insulated and armoured cable, complete with termination glands, shrouds, stress release shields, silicone lubricant, earth braids, and crutch sealing compounds,

(2) Bus Bars

The bus bars shall be made of high conductivity electrolytic copper and shall be comple~ely isolated and insulated and mechanically braced for short-time momentary ampere rating of the largest circuit breaker.

The continuous current rating shall be be by colours applied on full length of bus bars and these shall be red, yellow and blue.

(3) Circuit Breakers

(a) The circuit breakers shall be t r i pLe pole, low oil content or bn l k oil con c s.r.t., manually operated.

(b) The minimum oil circuit breaker or low oil content circuit breaker shall be in drawout pattern.

It shall be triple pole fitted with ring-duct nozzle type arc-quenching device.

Each pole of the breaker shall be mounted rigidlY on the mechanism housing by means of two ribbed cast resin insulators.

The drive mechanism shall be trip free direct acting, manually operated.

For manual operation a handle shall be provided, and reverse action trip shall be incorporated to trip the breaker on hesitant action during movement of the handle.

The drawout type breaker shall have interlocking arrangement to prevent with-drawal of the truck when the breaker is closed and closing of the breaker when the truck is in any intermediate position.

Safety shutters shall be provided which shall automatically cover the live orifices when the circuit breaker is withdrawn.

On and OFF indicators and indicating lamps for ON and OFF shall be provided as mentioned in para 3c(3) (d).

A triple pole earthingdevice shall be provided for cable and bus bars earthing, complete with mechanism for interlocking it with the circuit breaker and the roll-out truck.

The operating characteristics and technical data of the minimum oil circuit breaker shall be as per details given in Table 2 of these

Specifications.

The minimum oil circuit breaker shall comply with VDE Specifications 0670 and shall be Siemens type 'T' or equivalent.

The circuit breaker shall be withdrawable type.

It shall be trible pole, double break, fitted with De-ion arc-quenching device, moving contacts for vertical isolation and mounted on a roll-out truck for horizontal withdrawl.

An interlocking device shall be provided such that the breaker can only be closed when it is in fully withdrawn or fully plugged-in position, and the breaker shall trip open on any attempt" to isolate or plug-in the breaker when in closed position.

An earthing device shall be provided to earth the calbe or bus bar through the circuit breaker.

Safety shutters shall be provided which shall automatically cover the live orifices when the circuit breaker is withdrawn.

Padlocking arrangement for safety shutters shall also be prcJided.

ON and OFF indicators and indicating lanps for ON and OFF shall be provided as menti-' j in para 3c(3) (d).

The operating characte~i~tics and technical data of the oil circuit bre~ker shall be as per details given in Table

2 of t~ese Specifications.

(4) 11 KV FUSE SWITCH

(a) The 11 KV Load Break Fused Switch cub i cI.eto be insta' led in the substation shall be sheet steel fabricated, floor mounting, cubicle type, factory assembled suitable for alignment with the circuit breaker panels on both the sides.

(b) The 11 KV load break fuse switch shall be

400 amps, triple pole suitable for application in a syste~ with fault level of 350 MVA at

KV.

The switch should be able to handle the full fault power even on making operations, and shall be provided with high rupturing capacity fuses of current rating as shown on the drawings.

The switch shall have the manual operating mechanism and automatic trip device acting on all the three poles when any or all three fuses operate.

(c) The switch shall be complete with 'ON' and 'OFF' indicators, designat ion na.ue

(iii) -Ammeters and Voltmeters

All meters &hall be moving iron, spring controlled of measuring range as specified.

The front dimensions shall be 144 x 144 mm for meters and incoming side on

96 x

96 mm on all outgoing circuits.

The meters shall have accuracy class 1.5 according to VDE 0410/8.64, and suitable for connection to

5 Amps secondary .of current transformers as specified.

The ammeters and voltmeters shall be scaled as indicated on the drawings.

A red mark shall be provided at 415 volts on the scale of all voltmeters.

Current Transformers

Air coIled, ring type current transformers shall be provided having'transformation ratio as indicated on the drawings.

(vii) Time Switch

A motorised adjustable time switch shall be provided for automatic switching of street light and floodlight circuits.

It shall comprise of self-starting miniature synchronous motor, having maintenance free, non-lubricating rotating mechanism with a

24 hours front dial, adjustable setting operating time.

The time switch to be connected to external lighting circuits through contactor coil and AUTO-OFF-~~NUAL selector switch.

(viii) Light control Selector Switch

The selector switch shall be provided on the switchboard for street and flood light control.

This arrangement shall consist of selector switch, fuse and terminal block all provided next to magnetic contactor on panel.

The switch shall be rated for 10 A, 220 V and shall have three positions OFF, REMOTE and

LOCAL.

The position markings shall be provided on the front plate of selector switch.

The fuse for remote circuit control shall be HRC type.

(ix) Push Button Station

The push button stations for controlling lights in trnasit sheds shall be single unit comprising of two momerta ry contact push-buttons enclosed in stael housing and suitable for surface Mlunting.

The control boards shall comprise of required number of Siemens 3SAl2 push button units described in section (ix) above enclosed in sheet steel board suitable for recess in wall installation.

The control board,shall have a hinged door with cam fastener and push buttons installed inside in a manner similar to miniature circuit breakers in lighting distribution boards.

In general the control boards shall conform to the same specifications as described in section 3.d(2) for lighting distribution boards.

The lighting DBS shall be suitable for recessed or surface amounting on wall, as stated in Bill of Quantities and rated for 440/415 volts, 3 phase 4 wire, 50 Hz system.

The body shall be 14 SWG sheet steel fabircated, front operation type.

All components shall be mounted on a common component mounting plate, fixed inside the enclosure, and the DB shall be provided with screwed sheet steel front plate.

The enclosure shall be of dust and damp proof design with rubber gasketting having lockable hinged door with cam fastener.

All sheet steel work shall be properly cleaned and then spray painted with two base coats of anti-corrosive paint and finished in heavy stove enamelled grey colour unless otherwise instructed by the Engineer.

The distribution board shall be supplied complete with· incoming and outgoing cable termination arrangement, terminal b1ock/ line up terminals, internal wiring,

Power Factor Improvement Plant

The power factor improvement plant shall be used for improving the power factor of the system on

415 volts side.

The plant shall be automaticcum-manual.

The power factor improvement plant shall be aligned with the Main L.T. Switchboard.

The l control panel for the plant shall be a part of

Main L.T.Switchboard, whereas the power factor correction capacitors shall be mounted separately either on the rear portion of the cable trench or on a steel bracket to be installed by the contractor for this purpose.

Switch Board for Power Connection to Ships

For supplying power connection to ships at the berth, water tight outdoor type switches shall be provided ana installed along the outer side of the wall of the Transit shed facing the apron of the berth as shown on the drawings.

General

(a) The power transformers shall be indoor type, oil immersed, naturally cooled, dquble wound, 3 phase, core type, designed and built to give efficient and reliable service at their full rated capacity on the climatic conditions given in the General

Instructions of these specifications. Transformers built to the following standards will be acceptable:

C.P. 1010-1969 and other relevant latest British

(b) The transformers shall be 'fully tropicalized and for temperature rise, humidity, altitude etc., the local conditions shall be taken into account while following the above standards. The transformers shall be complete with all accessories and attachments detailed in these specifications or otherwise required and the Contractor shall provide all details, drawings, data and complete test results for final apprQval before installation.

(c) The voltage ratio at no load shall be 11000/415 volts. The system frequency shall be 50 c/s. The transformer shall be Delta-Sta= connected with neutral brought out on L.V. side, The neutral brought out on L.V. side. The neutral shall be solidly earthed. The vector group reference shall be 41 Dy 11 for all transformers.

(d) The temperature rise shall be 40°C in oil, as measured by thermometer in oil and 50°C in winding, as measured by resistances of the windings on full load over an ambient temperature of 450C.

All stipulated temperature rises shall not cause damage to the insulation of the winding or any part of the transformer or in any way adversely effect the reliability and efficiency of the transformer.

(e) The transformer shall be supplied with first filling of transformer oil to B.S.S. 148: 1972.

(f) All the transformers shall be suitable for running in parallel with each other.

415 volts at the secondary terminals when the primary line voltage varies plus or minus

Construction

(a) The transformer tank shall be constructed of welded boiler plates and provided with external radiating tubes. The tanks and radiating tubes shall be designed to withstarid,without devel9Ping any deformation, pressure at least 25% greater than the maximum operating pressure. The steel plate cover shall be bolted to the tank, using gasket for perfect oil seal. Two earth terminals shall be provided at the base of the .tank.

(b) The oil preservation system shall utilize an ~_ sion tank or conservator tank fitted with silicagel breather, oil level indic~tor and a drain valve.

(c) The transformer core shall ~e built of high electrical steel laminations, each lamination insulated to reduce eddy current losses. The core laminations shall be clamped and bolted effectively to reduce humming.

(d) The winding coils shall be of high grade el~lytic copper conductor, flat or round, paper insulated or super enamelled insulated thoroughly dried and impregnated as required.

(e) The high voltage leads shall be,brought out to the cable-end box for external connections.

(f) The low voltage three lines and neutral leads shall be brought out and terminated to glazed porcelain insulator bushings for connections to

L.V. side by copper bus duct or cables.

(g) Off-loa~ operated tap changer shall be provided on H.V. side on the tank cover. The tapping shall be

3 f BUS TIE DUCT·

(1) The Contractor shall supply and install the L.T.

bus-tie duct as specified under and connect the bus-tie duct at transformer L.T. terminals and inc9ming side of Main L.T. switchboard.

The position of transformer, L.T. switchboard and bus-tic ductare schematically shown on the drawing.

The exact arrangement shall, however, depe~d on the

L.T. switchboard supplied.

(2) The bus-tie duct shall be supplied complete in all respects including supports, hangers and other l installation materials.

(3) The bus-tie duct shall be 3 phase and neutral rated for 440/400 volts, 50 Hz, a.c. system.

The conductor shall be high purity copper supported On insulator and enclosed in sheet steel housing.

The bus duct shall be designed for working in an ambient temperature of 45

PVC Conduits & Accessories

The PVC conduit for lighting and power socket wiring wherever, specified shall be PVC electrical conduits manufactured by Pakistan PVC Limited. The PVC conduits and accessories shall conform to BS-1607, 1970'SUAVYL' brand.

Steel Conduits and Accessories.

(a) All steel conduits supplied by the Contractor at )specified locations shall be of heavy gauge 16 SWG (1.63 mm) black enamelled steel, manufactured and tested in accordance with BS 31-1940 as modified to-date. The conduit shall be protected by two base coats of red oxide anti-rust paint and finished in first quality bLac'kenamel paint.

The coating shall be of heavy enamel, which shall not flake or crack during installation and handling. The entire conduit system along¥ith the accessories shall be given a black enamel coating after installation. Each conduit length shall be furnished with threaded ends and a threaded coupling at one end.

(b) The conduit accessories.such as socketa. elbows, bushings, bends, inspection boxes, pull box~s,junction boxes, saddles, clamps, etc., as required for complete installation shall be furnished by the Contractor. All accessories supplied shall conform to the same qt:alityand specifications as for the conduits. Sof~ metal bushes shall be used at conduit termination to prevent damage to cable during pulling operation. The conduits and conduits accessories shall be as manufactured by International Industries, Karachi or approved equivalent.

(c) Junction boxes shall be 100 mm square, having minimum depths of 38 mm or 65 mm as required for accommodating the number,of wires. The junction boxes shall be of

16 SWG sheet steel provided with anti-rust paint and finished in heavy black enamel paint. The above dimensions are given as a minimum only, and the exact size shall be determined by the Contractor keeping in view the ease of installation and maintenance. All outlet boxes and junction boxes ~hall be provided with one piece cover plate of suitable design. The use of manufactured bends shall be avoided and smooth bends shall be provided by using approved type of bending tools.

(a) Switches for controlling light and fan points shall be single pole, rated for 5 amps, 250 volts, a.c. supply.

The body of the switches shall be made of bakelite, with white face plate suitable for flush mounting on a sheet steel outlet box. The switches shall be piano type having silver tipped contacts and operate with snap action. Switches manufactured by Pakistan

LIGHTING FIXTURES

(I) General

The description of lighting fixtures is given on the drawing and all relevant material is described in detail in this section.

Where a definite manufacturcr·s type and catalogue number is specified, it shall also serve as an illustration of the type and, if the particular type of fixture specified is not available,.approved

equivalent fixture may be acceoted.The

determination of equality will be based on certified photo-mutric data covering the co-efficient of utilization, average brightness data, as well as equivalence of construction material, shape, finish, operation,etc.

(1) General

(a) The design of lightning protection system shall be carried out in accordance with

British Standard Code of Practice CP.326

(1965)-'Protection of Structures against

Lightning',-and the Contractor shall install the system as specified herein and in accordance with the referred code.

The extent of work specified or shown on the drawings is schematic and do not indicate ~he position of testing terminals, conductor connections, etc.

However, the Contractor shall ensure that the system is complete in all respect as intended by the specifications.

In general, the earthing resistance of lightning protection system at any point in the system shall not exceed 10 Ohms.

(b) The installation of lightning protection system shall comprise of the following:

Air termination •.

Down conductors.

Testing terminals.

Earth electrodes.

Air Termination

Horizontal Air Termination or Roof Conductors

The horizontal air termination for lightning protection system shall comprise of soft annealed electrolytic coppe~ strip having dimensions of 25 romx 3 rom. All connections between metal work on the roof and air termination network shall be with the same conductor sizes and material as for air termination.

All accessories for fixing of copper strip to concrete surface shall be of copper or

.brass as approved by the Engineer.

,verticalAir Termination

This shall comprise of 10 wm dia, 2 metres long hard drawn copper rod having pointed tip at one end.

The rod shall be fixed vertically to the roof surface or brazed to ste~l tower top as required.

Down Conductor

The down conductor including earthing lead shall conform to the same material specifications as for the horizontal rood conductors •

The pole shall have an anchor steel base plate of size 400 rom x 400 nun and 25 mm in thickness, welded to the bottom of the pole.

Stiffeners as shown on the drawing shall be welded to the pole and base plate.

The base plate shall have suitable hole centred on the pole centre line for connecting

100 rom dia GI pipe for cable entr.y to the pole.

The plate shall have four hoics for insertion of

25 mm bolts through the plate.

Different locations of the pole shall be electrically welded.

Excessive porosity and lack of fusion in welding may be removed by chipping and joints should be rewelded so as to ensure dependable operation of tne pole.

After welding the surface should be cleaned, derusted, degreased and shall be given two coats of approved quality anticorrosion paint.

The pole shall be given a primary coat of red oxide and two coats of first quality aluminium paint.

The time between the two coats of paint shall be a minimum of 24 hours.

An earth terminal and suitable size of holes shall be provided in the poles, if required, for looping the cables in and out to the connecting box for street lights and control box for flood/street lights.

(2) Street Light-Brackets

The street light bracket shall be made of G.I.

The dimensions of the bracket shall be as shown on the drawing.

The bracket shall be painted with aluminium paint over a base coat of red oxide anti-rust paint.

(3) Flood Light Towers and Flood Light Brackets

All steel structural details for flood light towers alongwith the fixing bracket for flood lights $hall conform to Sections 22830 for structural Steel Works given in these specifications.

The same shall be applicable to flood light fixing brackets on tubular steel poles.

The contractor shall provide all labour and materials required for handling, laying, cutting, joint-

,ing, testing and commissioning of the cables as specified herein and as directed at site. All materials such as lugs, sockets, solder, insulation tape, clamps, saddles, bolts, nuts, washers, etc", shall be supplied by the Contractor within the quoted rates against each item and no additional payment will be made for such installation materials.

Underground Cable Installation

(a) The cables to be installed directly underground shall be laid in trenches in single tiers. The depth of cable under bare ground shall be

900 mm minimum measured from the top of the largest cable to the general ground leve~. The burial depth may be incr~ased as required due to site conditions or when crossing o t.he

(b) When cables cross ro~ds, paved area or other' services pipes and other cables, they shall be laid in protective pipes as specified on the drawings. Also at terminations, where the cable comes out of the floor or ground, it shall pass through protective pipe of required size. Cables entering buildings shall also be laid in ptorective pipes. The ptotective pipe ends, after installation of cables, shall be plugged with sealing compound, impervious to liquids that may be present in the soil. A minimum clearance of

250 rom shall be maintained between cables and other services.

(c) The cable trench shall be excavated as per route and location shown on the drawing. Before laying of cables in the trench, the bed of the trench shall be levelled and filled with a

Conduit Wiring

(a) The power, 'light and control wiring through conduit shall be started only after the conduit systems is installed and all outlet boxes, junction boxes, etc., are fixed in position. The wires shall be pulled in conduit with the aid of steel wire and using recommended ltibriciantfor decreasing friction. Where serveral wires are to occupy the same conduit, these shall be pulled shall be as per cable manuf~cturer's recommendations.

(b) The wiring for power circuits must be continuous between termination~ and looping-in system shall be f91lowed for light circuits. Any joint is wiring is prohibited. The use of connectors will be allowed for light wiring at locations where looping-in is rendered difficult, for which prior approval of Engineer shall be obtained. The connector shall have porcelain body, ~unkp.n screw terminal and terminal strips~ screws used shall be of brass. The connector shall be wrapped with PVC ins~lation after installation.

The switchboard body shall be connected to earth as per instructions given in section "Earthing" of these specifications.

The switchboard shall be tested and commissioned in the presence of the Engineer.

The tests to be carried out shall be as per instructions given in section

POWER TRANSFORMER INSTALLATION

(1) Transformers shall be installed in transformer stations at locations shown on drawings.

This contractor shall, however, be responsihle ror general check of provision in civil work, as per drawings affecting his part of work.

For installation, connecting, testing and commissioning of transformers, the contractor shall provide all labour and materials required.

The transformer's installation on prepared foundations shall be carried out in accordance with specifications a~d the best generally accepted practice.

Any loose material, shall be assembled, installed and connected in place so as to form a complete transformer assembly.

The transformers roller wheels shall be locked with the foundation steel channel after placing it in position so that the wheels do not move in the channel due. to vibrations.

General

The Contractor shall furnish all labour and material for the installation of conduits on surface or concealed in concrete as required.

The approximate routes and termination point for conduits are shown on the drawings. However, due to site conditions if the Contractor propose an alternate route for conduit run then prior permission of Engineer shall be obtained. For such changes, the Contractor must ensure thatl clearances with other services are maintained and the alternations do not incur any undue additional cost to the client.

PVC Conduit

The conduit shall be concealed in roof, wall, column, floor, etc. At all joints and bends PVC jointing solution as manufactured by Pakistan PVC

Limited must be used to st~engthen and to seal the joint.

The concealed conduit shall have a minimum of

Steel conduits

The steel conduits for w1r1ng at specified locations shall be installed on the surface of wall, ceiling, etc., by means of steel saddles and clamps of approved design.

The saddles shall be installed on surface uy means of nylon wall plugs and galvanized steel holts or screws.

Appropriate sized holes in structure slldll be made by drilling.

The thickness of saddles shall not be less than 4 rom and clamps shall be of 16 SWG(1.63

rom) sheet steel.

These shall be fixed at a maximum of 1000 rom along horizontal and vertical runs of conduit.

All accessories for complete installation of conduit system shall be installed before wiring is carried out and condu\t shall be removed without damaging the installation.

The entire conduit system shall be installed and tested before wiring is carried out. Any obstruction found shall be cleared by use of a cutting mandral or other approved device and the conduit be cleaned out before the installation of cable.

The-termination of conduits near swith boards, etc., is shown diagramatically on the drawings.

The exact final termination point shall be coordinat0d with the position and dimensions of equipment installed.

Any extension of conduit near the switch board to sUlt the site conditions shall be made without extra cost.

The conduit termination shall conform to the type of equipment enclo~ure to which conduit connections are to be made.

Conduit ends pointing upward and downwards shall be properly plugged, in order to prevent the entry of foreign material.

All openings jn conduit system through which concrete may leak shall be carefully plugged and boxes shall be suitably protected against filling with concrete.

At all terminations of conduit, soft metal bushes shall be provided to prevent sharp edges of conduits ends from cutting or damaging the cables or wires during pulling operations.All

WIRING ACCESSORIES INSTALLATION

(1) The mounting heights of all fixtures are stated on the drawings. In case the mounting height is not mentioned, the instructions of the Engineer shall be obtained before fixing.

Switches and switch socket units shall be ·installed on recessed-in-wall 1.63 rom thick sheet steel boxes as specified, having appropriate dimensions. At locations where switches and fan regulators arc provj,dcdat one place, these shall be grouped together and iastallfd on a common plastic sheet fixed to the sheet steel box so as to finish flush with the surface of t,hewall.

and commissioning. The down rod shall have long threads and shall be provi~ed with checknuts to secure it firmly with the clamp and with the body of the fan. A split pin shall be provided both at the fan body end and at the clamp for safety. Any scratches on the body of the fan or fan rod appearing during installation shall be cleaned and painted properly with same quality paint as provided by the manufacturer •

LIGHT FIXTURE INSTALLATION

(1) General

The mounting heights of light fixtures are indicated on the drawings, and position of fixtures are according to the scale. The Contractor must ensure that the light fixtures are installed uniformly with respect to the dimensions of the area. Any modifications due to site conditions may be made with the approval of 'Engineer. All fixtures shall be carefully aligned before fixing in position,' so as not to cause any undue damage. The holes for fixing .

EARTHING INSTALLATION

General

Complete earthing systems as shown on the drawing shall be installed by t~e Contractor. The system shall give earth resistance, including the resistance of soil, earth leads and E.C.C. equal to or less than one ohm.

The Contractor shall supply and install all installation materials such as sockets, thimbles, clamps, saddles, pins, nuts, bolts, washers, copper brazing etc., without any additional cost. At all connections of earth continuity conductor to switchboard, cable-end box or any other mettalic body, proper size copper or brass sockets, thimbles or lugs shall be used to which the copper wire shall be welded by copper brazing. The soldering of copper wire at joints or terminations'shall not be allowed.

All tee-off connections shall be by copper brazing using suitable socket and clamps. After brazing, the jointed surface shall be protected by oxide inhibiting compound of low electrical resistance. For connections to mettalic body, the surface shall be thoroughly cleaned to the

4. i. Pole and Pole accessories installation

(1) Pole Erection

A pit of appropriate dimensions shall be first excavated in the bare ground such that aL the base of excavated pit a 150 mm thick and 900 n~ x 900 rom size Class E lean concrete pad shall be provided and above the pad,aClass C concrete foundation block shall be made such that the block extends above the top.level of the paved area or ground level as the case may be.

The concrete foundation block shall have four L- shaped

The anchor bolts shall be threaded at the top end)galvani~ed the top 75 rom length of the bolt.

The anchor bolts shall be set parallel to the road centre line.

The pole shall be provided with at least two steel clamps for each box at the base of the pole and the connecting box shall be welded to the clamps, as shown in the drawing.

The control box or connecting box shall be installed such that its lower end shall be

60 cm above finished ground level.

The control box or connecting box shall be installed in accordance with

Manufacturer's instruction.

All screws, nuts and bolts

(1) General

Upon completion of tQe installation, the Contractor shall perform field t~sts on all equipment, materials and systems. All tests shall be conducted in the presence of the Engineer for the purpose of demonstrating equipment or systens compliance with Specifications.

The Contractor shall furnish, install and maintain all tools, instruments, test equipment, materials, eLc., and furnish all personnel including supervision and

"stand-by" labour required for the testing, setting and adjustment of all electrical facilities and their component parts, including putting the same into operation.

All tests shall be made with proper regard for the protection of the equipment and the Contractor shall be responsible for-adequate protection to all personnel during such tests.

The Contractor shall record all test values of the tests made by him on all equipment, giving both "as found" and "as left" conditions.

Five (5) copies of all test data shall be given to the En9ineer for record purposes.

The witnessing of any tests by the Engineer does not relieve the Contractor of his guarantees for materlals, equipment and workmanship, as specified in the Conditions of Contract.

(2) Insulation Resistance Tests

Insulation resistance tests shall be made on all electrical equipment by using a meggar of 1000 volts.

All transformers a~d switchgears shall be given an inSUlation resistance measurement test to ground after installation but b~fore any wiring is connected.

Insulation tests shall be made between open contacts of circuit breakers, switches and between each phase and earth.

If the insulation resistance of the circuit under test is less than that speecified above, the cause of the low reading shall be determined and removed. Corrective mc~sures shall include dry-out procedure by means of he~ters if equipment is found to contain moisture. Where corrective measures have been necessary and the insulation resistance readings taken after the correction has been made, satisfy the requirements herein, repeat insulation resistance measurements shall be made twice and at least 12 hours apart.

The maximum range for each reading in the thtee successive tests shall not exceed

20% of the average value.

After all tests have been made, the equipment shall be reconnected.

The completed Lightning Protection System shall be tested for continuity and earth resistance.

The conmined earth resistance at any point in the system shall not exceed

10 ohm.
