Purpose
This operating instructions guides the technical staff of the machine manufacturer
through a safe mounting and electrical installation of the Safety function module. This
documentation does not provide any instructions for the operation of the machine into
which the Safety function module is or will be integrated. For information on the opera‐
tion, refer to the operating instructions of the machine.
Qualifications
Required qualifications: Individual who is able to assess the assigned tasks and to
identify possible safety risks owing to qualification in the subject, knowledge and expe‐
rience. The individual should also be familiar with the standards and regulations.

Explaining Signal Words and Safety Alert Symbol
The safety instructions in this documentation contain specific signal words (danger,
warning, caution, notice) and, if necessary, a safety alert symbol (according to
ANSI Z535.6-2006).
The signal word is meant to draw the reader's attention to the safety instruction and sig‐
nifies the degree of danger.
The safety alert symbol (a triangle with an exclamation point), which precedes the sig‐
nal words danger,warning and caution is used to alert the reader to personal injury haz‐
ards.

Intended Use
The Bosch Rexroth Safety function module is a safety component. It becomes only a
safety-related control system if used with a Rexroth IndraControl L control (IndraLogic
XLC SafeLogic, IndraMotion MLC SafeLogic, IndraMotion MTX SafeLogic). For more
documents, refer to chapter 1 "About this Documentation" on page 3 in the section
"Required and supplementing documentation".
The Safety function module is not supported by the IndraControl L25 hard‐
ware.
The Safety function module is used to securely process logic signals of periphery com‐
ponents (sensors) according to the sequential program and to provide logic signals for
periphery components (actuators). The sequential program can be freely programmed
using the Engineering system. Even though the control system was developed, manu‐
factured and tested according to the safety standards and certified by an accredited
test institute, using this component does not automatically ensure a functionally safe
machine. The machine manufacturer has to perform a risk analysis and take corre‐
sponding protective measures to reduce risks and validate their effect even though it
was accredited and developed according to the safety standards. Only a complete im‐
plementation of the requirements (such as systematic measures, software require‐
ments, integration of sensors and actuators (according to the applied standards (DIN
EN ISO 13849 and DIN EN 62061) can ensure the functional safety.
NOTICE
The device can be damaged if accessories, attach‐
ments, components, cables, lines, software and
firmware other than specified are used.
The Safety function module may only be used as intended and combined with the ac‐
cessories and attachments specified in this documentation. Components that are not
expressly mentioned must neither be attached nor connected. It is strictly prohibited to
open and operate components (individual parts) as well as using firmware that is not
permitted.
The Safety function module may only be operated under the mounting, installation and
ambient conditions (such as temperature, protection class, humidity, EMC) specified in
this documentation. Also refer to chapter 6 "Ambient Conditions" on page 10.
A typical area of application of the Safety function module is the implementation of
safety-related controls for:

Memory Card
The application program (boot application), the user management data, a logbook and
the firmware of the Safety function module are stored on a memory card and remain
even if the power supply is interrupted.
NOTICE
Unintended exchange of the memory card can dam‐
age the Safety function module.
Only qualified service personnel is allowed to exchange the memory card.

Technical Data
The ambient air has to be free of higher concentration of acids, leaches,
corrosive agents, salt, metal vapors and other electrically conductive im‐
purities. Dust-free air is required for the environment. Housings and
mounting spaces have to be at least of the degree of protection IP 54 ac‐
cording to DIN EN 60529.

Technical Data
7.1
Power Supply
The internal voltage of the IndraControl L supplies the Safety function module via the
function module plug.
The input voltage of the IndraControl L is DC 24 V and is to be guaranteed by power
supply units with a safe separation (PELV).
For specifications on the power supply, its tolerance and the residual ripple, refer to the
chapter "Technical Data" of the corresponding IndraControl L. The power supply has to
meet the requirements stated in DIN EN 61131-2.

Interfaces
The Safety function module is provided with a function module plug on the right side.
Via the function module plug, the function module can either be connected directly to
the IndraControl L or to a preceding function module. The Safety function module is al‐
ways located at the outermost position. Thus, it is not provided with an address switch
for the slot selection. The internal function module bus is not lead to the outside. Thus,
no further function modules can be connected in series to the module. There are no fur‐
ther interfaces on the function module.

"Device Description" on page 27.

Mounting
CAUTION
Troubled program sequence due to an incorrect
protection class and installation position!
Install the Safety function module in a control cabinet with at least the degree of protec‐
tion IP 54 acc. to DIN EN 60529.
The function module has to be installed on a horizontally mounted mounting hat rail (re‐
fer to the figure "Mounting the safety function module").
WARNING
Do not mount the control, modules or plugs under
voltage. The system might start accidentally!
Set the voltage of the complete station and the components to zero before mounting
the components! Apply the voltage only after the complete station is build up.
For the mounting steps of the Safety function module, refer to the figure "Mounting the
safety function module".

Mount the Safety function module:
1. Hang the function module ② on the mounting rail ①, Ⓐ.
2. Tilt it Ⓑ down against the mounting rail until the locking ③ is engaged.
Ensure that the function module is completely engaged on the mounting
rail before plugging the plug of the function module into the adjacent
neighboring female socket. Otherwise, the plug connection can be dam‐
aged.
3. Insert the function module Ⓒ, ② into the left 120-pin female socket of the
IndraControl L control or the neighboring function module.

4. Lock the function module on the mounting rail ① using the end bracket ④.
Ensure that end brackets are mounted on the left and right of the control
components to avoid any disengagement due to vibration.

Demounting
WARNING
Do not demount the control, modules or plugs under
voltage. The system might start accidentally!
Set the voltage of the complete station and the components to zero before demounting
the components! Apply the voltage only after demounting is completed.
For the demounting steps of the Safety function module, refer to the figure "Demount‐
ing the Safety function module".

Remove the Safety function module:
1. Remove the end bracket ④.
2. Pull the function module ② first to the left Ⓓ away from the control or the neigh‐
boring function module.
3. Pull the mounting rail locking ③, Ⓔ downwards using a flat tip screwdriver.
4. Tilt the function module ② to the front Ⓕ.
Do not open the housing of the Safety function module!

Electrical Installation
As the Safety function module is supplied via the IndraControl L, follow the specifica‐
tions given in the operating instructions "Rexroth IndraControl L25, L45, L65 and L85
Controls" (refer to chapter 1 "About this Documentation" on page 3 in the section "Re‐
quired and supplementing documentation").
WARNING
The electrical installation of the controls and the
function modules is not allowed under voltage, since
the system could start accidentally!
Set the voltage of the complete station and the components to zero before mounting or
demounting the components! Apply the voltage only after the complete station is as‐
sembled.
All safety-related components of the system (wiring, connected sensors and command‐
ers, configuration, contactor monitoring) have to meet the corresponding safety stand‐
ard (e.g. EN 62 061, DIN EN 60204 or DIN EN ISO 13 849-1).
Only connect power supply units with safe separation according to DIN EN
50178 as power supply (or power sources with the same degree of safety)
with PELV voltage according to DIN EN 61131-2 .

Commissioning
The product is not operational upon delivery. It has to be parameterized or program‐
med.
The documentations describing the commissioning and project configuration are listed
in chapter 1 "About this Documentation" on page 3 in the section "Required and sup‐
plementing documentation".
WARNING
An incorrect commissioning can cause fatal immate‐
rial and material damages!
Ensure that a qualified person checks, documents and releases the system before the
initial commissioning of the system in which the Safety function module is used.
Before commissioning the system, ensure that there is no person in the danger zone.
Ensure that the danger zone cannot be accessed.

Press the "Conf" button once to confirm the established communication between the
programming system and the Safety function module at initial login. This confirmation
ensures that you are only connected to your selected Safety function module.

Maintenance Instructions
The Safety function module runs without maintenance. Check the Safety function mod‐
ule at least annually. The check includes:
● Correct position
● Damage or rupture
● Tight screw connection of the end brackets on the left and right of the control
Replace it immediately if damaged.
