Operating Instructions

Power-DALI-Potentiometer

1. Safety instructions

Electrical equipment must be installed and fitted by qualified electricians only.

Failure to observe the instructions may damage the device and cause fire or other hazards.

These operating instructions are part of the product and must be left with the final customer.

2. Function

Stand: Sep-07 825 632 03

2.1. Designated use

The potentiometer permits manual controlling of luminaries with DALI interface.

It is installed in a mounting box as per DIN 49073.

2.2. Product features

• If connected to the mains supply („active operation“) the potentiometer supplies the required control current for 26 DALI devices.

Light Management

• Without connection to the mains supply („passive operation“) the potentiometer draws its supply from the DALI voltage and serves as an additional control unit.

• All control units have the same functionality.

• Parallel connection of 2 „active“ DALI potentiometers offers the possibility of controlling up to 52 DALI devices.

• Possibility of storing a basic brightness and a fixed power-on brightness.

L To ensure trouble-free operation, the device must not be used in combination with other DALI control units.

2.3. Behaviour after bus voltage return

On return of mains voltage, the lighting adopts the same switching state as the one existing before mains voltage failure. If the lighting was on, the lamps start up with the power-on brightness.

3. Operation

The control operations can be performed from several control units and are always valid for all connected devices as a broadcast command.

Switching the lighting on and off

ƒ Press the control knob.

Adjusting the brightness of the lighting

ƒ Turn the control knob.

Storing a fixed power-on brightness

When the lighting is switched on, it starts up with the brightness existing during the last shut-off. If the lighting is to be switched on with always the same brightness, this brightness value can be stored as fixed power-on brightness.

ƒ Switch on the lighting.

ƒ Adjust the lamps to the desired power-on brightness by turning the control knob.

ƒ Press the control knob twice in quick succession (‚double click‘).).

The lighting is switched for a short moment twice to maximum brightness. The power-on brightness is stored.

L If the lights go out after the double click, the time between the first and the second press on the knob was too long.

Deleting the fixed power-on brightness value

ƒ Switch off the lighting.

ƒ Press the control knob twice in quick succession (‚double click‘).

After about two seconds, the lights are switched to maximum brightness..

The fixed power-on brightness is deleted.

4. Fitting and electrical connection

4.1. Gerät anschließen und montieren

L DANGER!

Electric shock in case of accidental contact with live parts.

Electric shocks can be fatal.

Disconnect the power supply before working on the device or on the load.

• Connect the DALI potentiometer in compliance with the technical prescriptions for 250 V installations (control voltage with basic insulation) (Fig. 2).

• Observe the correct polarity when several DALI potentiometers are connected in parallel.

(1) DALI potentiometer (active operation)

(2) DALI device, e.g. DALI electronic ballast

(3) DALI potentiometer without mains voltage connection (passive operation).“

L Control lines and load lines can share the same cable, e.g. NYM J 5 x

1.5.

L The connected DALI devices and the DALI potentiometers can be connected to different phase conductors..

5. Commissioning

5.1. Storing a basic brightness value

The basic brightness must be preset if turning of the DALI potentiometer does not result directly in an increase of brightness.

ƒ Switch on the lights at minimum brightness.

ƒ Turn the DALI potentiometer to the point from which the brightness begins to rise.

ƒ Press the control knob for more than 10 seconds..

The lighting switches off briefly and then on again.

The basic brightness value is now stored.

L The device permits storing of any basic brightness value from which the lighting intensity can be increased..

5.2. Deleting the basic brightness value

ƒ Switch off the lights.

ƒ Press the control knob for more than 10 seconds.

The lighting switches briefly to maximum brightness and then off again. The basic brightness value is now deleted.

L DALI devices from different manufacturers can show other reactions when confirming the settings.
