PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
RAUVISIO mineral is a homogeneous, non-porous, mineral-filled
acrylic sheet made from aluminium trihydroxide (ATH) and PMMA. This
durable and easy-to-clean material has a high quality appearance and
is warm and pleasant to touch.
RAUVISIO mineral offers a wide range of design diversity for functional
and decorative applications in the areas of interior design, kitchens,
sanitation, hospitals, doctor’s surgeries and furniture.
RAUVISIO mineral in 3 mm sheet thickness can also be used for
vertical surfaces.
2.1
Fire behaviour
Due to its composition of ATH and PMMA, RAUVISIO mineral demonstrates favourable fire behaviour and is classified to DIN 4102 as B2 normal flame-resistance. In the event of a fire no toxic substances
such as heavy metals or halogens are released. The same fire fighting
techniques can be used as for construction materials containing wood.
The information and recommendations given here do not release the
processor from strict adherence to all current safety and environmental regulations and the regulations of the trade supervisory centre and
professional association, as these always take precedence.

It is essential to observe and adhere to the safety regulations of the
adhesives used.
Additional working equipment, e.g. alcohol-based cleaners and other
highly flammable materials, should only be kept in a safe and well
ventilated location.
Always use safety equipment such as gloves, safety goggles, ear
protection and dust masks.
Safety at work and disposal
RAUVISIO mineral is a hardened acrylic resin composite material and
is not harmful to the environment.

3.1
TRANSPORT, PACKAGING AND STORAGE
Transport
Generally, the common transport and loading conditions are to be
observed.
On delivery, unload pallets with forklifts or similar equipment.
If such equipment is unavailable, unload the sheets one
at a time with two people, ensuring the sheets are upright. The use of
transport aids such as suction lifters, lever holds and board
transporters is recommended for handling.
3.2
Packaging
Protect the corners and surfaces of processed RAUVISIO mineral.
Corrugated cardboard or bubble wrap is recommended for protecting
the surfaces. Use foam blocks, foam angle profiles or thick cardboard
angles for the corners.
Worktops with cut-outs should only be transported upright. All weak
points such as cut-outs, notches or cut-outs with inserted mouldings
are to be protected with 19 mm thick single-piece chipboards.

For safety, all packaging should additionally be identified with stickers
in a red warning colour ”Caution fragile” In cold conditions sheets
especially, but also semi-finished products and finished work pieces,
are considerably more brittle and susceptible to breakage. This is to
be taken into consideration during transport.
At low temperatures, we advise against the manual
transportation of individual 3mm thick sheets from unheated storage.
Due to the risk of breakage, do not transport individual sheets
horizontally, stand them away from the stack or on a solid base
and transport them upright, or slide them horizontally onto a
pallet of the same height (Fig. 1).
3.3
Storage
Lay the RAUVISIO mineral sheets flat and level and store them with
continuous support in order to prevent sagging or warping.
RAUVISIO mineral mouldings should not be stacked more than six
high, even in their packaging.

PRIOR TO PROCESSING

When joining sheets of the same decorative design together, only
sheets with the same batch number should be used. Check for colour
uniformity in daylight, not in bright sunlight. When processing sheets

out of direct sunlight having wiped the surface with a damp cloth (to
give an effect visually similar to the end finish) at a distance of 60 cm.

warranty. Retain the labels on the sheet batches to be processed/note
the batch numbers on the delivery note.

6.2
Adhesives
6.2.1
RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive for 3 mm sheets
Use the special RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive for gluing
RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm sheets to wood-based substrates.
A veneer press is required for compression.
temperature (min 18 °C) for at least 48 h prior to processing.
Then stir well before processing!
Can be used for 12 months from the date of filling when stored at up

6.2.2
RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic adhesive
Use RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic adhesive in the
appropriate decorative design for the bonding of RAUVISIO mineral
edging pieces and also for RAUVISIO mineral sheets when butt or
corner joints are required. Use RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic
adhesive in the appropriate decorative design of the basin when gluing
RAUVISIO mineral washbasins and sheets.
Check the adhesive prior to use
Only use the adhesive if it sets evenly within 48 h!
Can be used until the date on the label when stored at a constant
temperature of 5-18 °C out of direct sunlight. After this date, first of
all check if the adhesive still sets a specified.
A higher storage temperature will reduce the processability
considerably (e.g. 6 months at 25 °C).

6.2.3

Surface bonding
6.3.1
Complete surface adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm
Apply the surface adhesive evenly to the entire surface of the
substrate using a glue applicator roller or machine. The RAUVISIO
mineral surface adhesive can also be used for the balancing sheet.
For small areas, a glue roller or fine serrated scraper can be used.
Adhesive quantity: 150–200 g/m2
Balancing sheet: Also use RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive
Open time: 5–8 min. at 20 °C
Pressing temperature: Cold
Press: Veneer press

RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive is not suitable for the surface
adhesion of RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm to substrates other than woodbased materials (e.g. Rigips, Fermacell, Styrodur or PU sheets). The
1-component Sikabond Parquet adhesive is also used to glue woodbased materials, if no press is available.
Ensure even application of the adhesive and press down well with
the hard rubber roller.

6.4
RAUVISIO mineral sheets in thicknesses >3 mm must not be glued
across the whole surface to the base material.
With silicone, Sikaflex 221, Sikabond Parquet or MS Polymer these
mineral sheets are fixed using dots or a line of adhesive lengthwise
and diagonally to be permanently elastic every 600 x 600 mm.
--RAUVISIO mineral 6 mm on a continuous substrate P3 (moistureresistant) min. 25 mm.
--RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm on a frame construction 600 x 600 mm
made from waterproof plywood strips 25 x 100 mm glued and
dowelled, aluminium or metal frames 600 x 600 mm made from a
profile cross-section min. 20 x 20 mm or on a continuous substrate
P3 min. 25 mm (Fig. 2). The double-sided adhesive tape 3M 9088
can also be used for aluminium or metal frames.
Gluing edges and butt joints
RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic adhesive bonds RAUVISIO
mineral to RAUVISIO mineral, RAUVISIO mineral to wooden substrates,
and wooden substrates to wooden substrates.
The wooden substrate should be low-formaldehyde (e.g. E1 chipboard). The 2-component acrylic adhesive does not fully harden on
substrates with a high formaldehyde content.
After use, the adhesive cartridge can be re-sealed with the original
seal and kept for further use.
Various edge designs can be produced using RAUVISIO mineral
2-component acrylic adhesive.
RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm edge strips applied flush or as an undermount produce a watertight and almost invisible joint. Before the
edges are applied, clean all surfaces to be glued with acetone or
methylated spirit and a clean cloth. Do not touch the surfaces after
this.
In order to achieve a near seamless joint, the sawn edges must
be refinished using a router cutter on edge and butt joints.
This applies for all decorative designs. Dirt and nicks on the sawn
edges make the joint clearly visible. Apply the 2-component acrylic
adhesive to the edge strips with an edge surface that is free from
damage.

To apply even pressure during the curing process, use a hardwood
strip and edge clamps spaced at 20-25 cm and tightened only by
hand. A sufficient level of adhesive and pressure is identified by the
adhesive escaping evenly and without interruption from the outside
edges of the joint.

After the acrylic adhesive has hardened (approx. 45 min. at room
temperature, test with your finger nail), trim the edgeband flush and
apply the desired radius. Use microfinish sandpaper for solid surface
material and an orbital sander to produce the desired finish.
With material thicknesses of 3 mm for the surface and edgeband, a
radius of up to R3 is possible. To produce an edgeband radius of R 6/
R12 on surfaces with RAUVISIO 3 mm, a strip of edgeband of the
corresponding sheet thickness 6 mm (for R6)/10 mm (for R10) can be
used.
With material thicknesses of 3 mm for the surface and edgeband, a
radius of up to R3 is possible. To produce an edgeband radius of R 6/
R12 on surfaces with RAUVISIO 3 mm, a strip of edgeband of the
corresponding sheet thickness 6 mm (for R6)/10 mm (for R10) can be
used.

Undermount application of the edge strip is recommended for
semi-gloss or high gloss finishes or RAUVISIO > 3 mm, as
adhesive joints can show slightly more with higher gloss levels,
(Fig. 4).
Gluing RAUVISIO mineral edgebands >3 mm
When gluing edgebands made from material >3 mm to sheets in the
corresponding thickness, place the edgeband under the surface of the
sheet (Fig. 7)
To prepare the substrate for the undermount fitting, trim off the
substrate to a depth of approx 5 mm (Fig. 5).

Clean the adhesion surfaces on the sheet and the edge with acetone
or methylated spirit and do not touch them after this.
Reinforce the glue area on the back of the edgeband with an
additional, continuous line of adhesive using RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic adhesive (Fig. 7/8).
An expansion joint of 6 mm must be left between the substrate and
the edgeband.
After fixing the sheet to the substrate, the joint is sealed with
MS-Polymer (Fig. 7/8).
After the acrylic adhesive has hardened, trim the edgeband flush and
apply the desired radius. Use microfinish sandpaper for solid surface
material and an orbital sander to produce the desired finish.

Wood-based substrates must be sealed on all sides of the underside
of the edgeband against moisture and water vapour (e.g. PU adhesive,
MS-Polymer), also a butt joint of the balancing sheet 0.7mm (see also
Fig. 6).
6.5.1
Manufacturing worktops with RAUVISIO mineral edgebands 3 mm with a sheet dimension in excess of 3680
Extending boards beyond 3680 is carried out during assembly of the
project as illustrated in Fig. 16 or 17. This is achieved with two
25 x 3.5 mm tongue and groove joints in RAUVISIO across the entire
length of the joint.
Trim the joint faces of the sheets at right angles. In the area of the butt
joint, cut a 13 x 3 mm groove into both sheets directly under the
RAUVISIO mineral material.
For Visione and Uni decorative designs, cut a groove
6 mm below the top edge so that the RAUVISIO tongue does not
show up on the front face. Secure the grooves during transport
with MDF tongues. The second groove of the same dimension is
cut approx. 6 mm from the bottom edge of the substrate (Fig. 9,
Fig. 10).
A connection only with a butt joint in RAUVISIO 3 mm, as described in
Section 7.5.2, would cause the glue joint in the 3 mm butt joint to
break during transport and handling, as the adhesive surface is too
small. Alternatively to the design with the tongue/groove a RAUVISIO
solid undermount (min. 6 mm thick) can be glued under the surface of
RAUVISIO 3 mm and milled flush. Sand both surfaces with P80, clean
and apply RAUVISIO mineral acrylic adhesive in the surface design
across the whole bonding surface.

two layers on top of each other and rub well. Remove the screw
clamps or board clamps and partially reapply the double layer of
adhesive tape along the butt joint. Then press the composite in the
press (Fig. 11).
Before finishing with the orbital sander, sand the adhesive joint flat
with a belt sander. The manual finishing with an orbital sander is
always carried out diagonally to the glue joint

The datum surface for all groove machining is generally the top
surface of the RAUVISIO mineral sheet.
Remove dust from grooves, sand the RAUVISIO mineral tongues on the
top with grade P 80. Clean the RAUVISIO mineral tongues and area to
be glued with methylated spirit or acetone and do not touch the
surfaces after this. Glue in the tongues with 2-component acrylic
adhesive in the decorative design of the sheet. Hand-tighten the
clamps until a small adhesive bead is visible along the edge.
Butt areas in the balancing sheet are to be sealed against moisture
and water vapour (e.g. PU adhesive).
Before finishing with the orbital sander, sand the adhesive joint flat
with a belt sander (P150). The manual finishing with an orbital sander
is always carried out diagonally to the glue joint.
6.5.2
6.5.3
Corner or butt joints of sheets made from RAUVISIO
mineral >3 mm
In the case of corner or butt joints, the sheet edges to be joined are
trimmed at right angles positively/negatively with a profile cutter. The
cutter is positioned on the top side of the sheet. The glue joint is
increased in size through the profiling.
In the case of elements not exposed to thermal loads, stick 50 mm
strips of RAUVISIO mineral across the whole length (Fig. 12).
The strips can then be fixed at the ends with hot-melt adhesive.
RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm butt joint for extended worktop
width
In the area of the RAUVISIO mineral 780 mm butt joint, mill a groove
of 25 x 3.5 mm into the substrate. After cleaning, insert a 24 x 3 mm
RAUVISIO mineral tongue into the groove using 2-component acrylic
adhesive, sand the visible surface with grade P 80 sandpaper. Trim
the joint faces of the RAUVISIO mineral sheet at right angles and clean
them. Coat the substrate with RAUVISIO mineral surface adhesive
and the top of the inserted tongue with 2-component acrylic adhesive
in the decorative design of the RAUVISIO sheet. Before laying
RAUVISIO mineral sheet, apply a continuous line of 2-component
acrylic adhesive to the edge of the first sheet. Apply the RAUVISIO
surface adhesive with a glue roller, too much glue is applied when
using a serrated scraper, which may cause the adhesive surface to
float when compressed and the RAUVISIO sheets will move away from
each other at the butt joints. Compress the butt joint together by hand
using screw clamps or vacuum board clamps until the acrylic adhesive
is pressed out in a continuous bead along the top side of the sheet.
First of all apply 50 mm wide strips of Tesa 4024 adhesive tape (clear
or brown, identical to the acrylic-based adhesive) diagonally to the
butt joint at intervals of max. 30 cm and rub well
Then affix Tesaband 4024 across the whole length of the butt joint in

Tighten the clamp only until the adhesive is pressed out in a continuous bead along the joint.
Before finishing with an orbital sander, sand adhesive joints flat with a
belt sander (P150).
The manual finishing with an orbital sander is always carried out
diagonally to the glue joint.
6.6
Element connections
6.7.1
Manual corner joint and butt joined surface element
with RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm
Mill the edges of the connecting elements cleanly and at right angles
(Fig. 15).
Installation of worktops with RAUVISIO mineral
The worktops should be entirely supported by base units. This applies
especially for areas with cut-outs for basins, sinks and hobs. Load
areas with cut-outs with weights of up to 25 kg only. It is not
permitted for people to sit or stand on worktop areas with
cut-outs or overhangs.
The max. spacing of base units with worktops above should not
exceed 40 cm. A single-sided worktop overhang of up to 60 cm
should be supported on two support legs. The positioning of top units
on the worktop is not permitted in this area.
In the case of installation between two walls, an expansion joint of
1 mm per running metre is to be taken into account (e.g. room
dimension 6 m/6 mm expansion joint). An expansion joint of min.
3 mm must be observed on the back wall (Fig. 14).
6.6.1
6.7
Installation of worktops with RAUVISIO mineral in window recesses
Window recess
Milled grooves, RAUVISIO tongues and gluing see Section 7.5.1.
Lay the sheets flat and push them together. Join the two elements by
attaching offset softwood blocks (do not use hardwood) with super
glue and clamp together using screw clamps. Do not apply the
adhesive above the groove; otherwise there is a risk of breakage when
the softwood blocks are subsequently removed.
Alternatively, vacuum board clamps can be used. Only tighten the
clamps/board clamps until the adhesive is pressed out in a continuous
bead along the top side of the sheet. After approx. 45 min. the fixing
strips can be knocked off and the joint finished to the same standard
as the sheet elements (Fig. 16). Sand the glue joints flat with a belt
sander (P150) prior to finishing with the orbital sander. The manual
finishing with an orbital sander is always carried out diagonally to the
glue joint.

A machined corner connection can also be produced by routing and
fitting worktop clamps. In order to avoid stress cracks and achieve a
joint that is also almost invisible, use RAUVISIO mineral 2-component
acrylic adhesive and the two inserted RAUVISIO mineral tongues as in
connection design A. Only tighten the worktop clamps until the
adhesive is pressed out in a continuous bead along the top side of the
sheet (Fig. 17 and 18). Sand the glue joints flush with a belt sander
(P150) prior to finishing with the orbital sander. The manual finishing
with an orbital sander is always carried out diagonally to the glue joint.

When using RAUVISIO mineral acrylic adhesive, always use the
respective colour-matched adhesive for the decorative design of
the sheet.
Positioning of joints and cut-outs
No joints are permitted in the cut-out areas for sinks, washbasins and
hobs.
Likewise, no joints are permitted over any appliances that emit heat,
cold or water vapour (e.g. dishwasher, washing machine, oven,
freezer).
Joints adjacent to cut-outs or appliances that emit heat, cold or water
vapour should be a minimum of 100 mm away.
The minimum distance for hob cut-outs from corner connections and
from the short edges of the worktop is 100 mm, the minimum
distance between 2 hob cut-outs next to each other is 200 mm. The
minimum distance for sink cut-outs from corner connections and from
the short edge of sheets is 50 mm, the minimum distance between
2 cut-outs next to each other (e.g. for washbasins and sinks) is
100 mm.
No diagonal joints are permitted for the design of corner
connections (Fig. 20), arrangement of worktops and joints.

If the minimum gap between the hob unit and worktop cut-out of
7 mm cannot be met all the way around, a stainless steel frame which
supports the hob unit is to be produced. A gap between the stainless
steel frame and RAUVISIO mineral cut-out of min. 7 mm all the way

If the frame is screwed into the substructure, the heat protection
tape must be applied over the screws.
With RAUVISIO mineral 3 mm on the cut-out edges at the top and
bottom a radius of R3 is milled all the way around.
Before installing the hob, seal the edges of the cut-out against moisture ingress. A PU adhesive is suitable for this. (RAUVISIO mineral heat
protection tape will not stick to silicone). The surface of the mineral
sheet is then sanded to the specified end finish. The matt finish is
recommended for work surfaces, the supermatt finish for dark
decorative designs. The heat protection tape, Art. No. 1245099,
made from the components foam and aluminium tape, is applied
continuously all around the edges of the cut-out up to the top edge of
the RAUVISIO mineral material (end of the radius R3). The heat
protection tape is 50 mm wide and the overhang over the worktop
should hang down freely (Fig. 22 and 23). The rim of the hob must not
lie directly on the RAUVISIO mineral surface: always attach the foam
tape provided by the hob supplier under the rim before installing
the hob unit (Fig. 22 and 23).
Frameless hob units must not be installed in surfaces made from
RAUVISIO mineral as these do not create any boundary to the
RAUVISIO mineral cut-out and cause damage by overheating
(Fig. 24).
This information only applies for hob units, hot plates or similar
in the domestic area, not in the commercial area.
Industrial kitchens and catering
A stainless steel frame is generally additionally fitted for hobs, fryers,
hot plates or similar appliances that radiate heat in excess of 80 °C in
the installation area into the worktop or counter. The total distance
between the internal unit housing and the edge of the cut-out in the
worktop or counter should be no less than 20 mm.
Three layers of the RAUVISIO mineral heat protection tape Art. No.
1245099 are applied:
1. Layer below the stainless steel frame
2. Layer below the edges of the worktop cut-out, as previously
described
3. Layer on the edges of the stainless steel frame. The heat
protection tape also needs to cover the screws which fix the
stainless steel frame to the cut-out (Fig. 25)

The standard solution for an upstand is produced using the 45 x 10
mm RAUVISIO mineral edge strip, which is available from stock. The
strip is profiled on the top and has rebates of approx. 2 x 2 mm on the
top and bottom. Sealing to the wall and to the worktop is achieved
with sanitary sealant colour-matched to the RAUVISIO mineral
decorative design. Spray the excess silicone with releasing agent and
use a plastic scraper to finish it cleanly and flush with the rebate
edges (Fig. 26).

the worktop may be designed as a fillet. To do this, insert a 10 mm
strip of RAUVISIO mineral and trim with a round nose cutter R6.

In the case of an upstand without splash back, the closing strips made
from RAUVISIO mineral 60 mm with the fillet design are fitted directly

the basin, then apply a radius R3 to RAUVISIO 3 mm or chamfer 45°
directly to the edge of the basin. In the case of other RAUVISIO sheet
thicknesses, select exactly the sheet thickness for the radius.
This visually eliminates any colour differences present in the natural
mineral or arising as a result of the moulding process. For both of
these cutting operations, use only cutters with plastic guide bush in
order to prevent scratching of basins with a ”semi-gloss” surface
finish. Seal the cut edges of the substrate against moisture ingress
using PU adhesive, silicone, acrylic or similar. Alternatively, fill the
cut-out with PU foam.
Holes for fittings in the substrate are to be sealed as described under
Section 6.12.
Due to the light reflection from two sides, the corner radii of corner
basins appear lighter than the adjacent surfaces in Uni decorative
designs.
This optical effect occurs regardless of material and colour tone (e.g.
also with stainless steel, quartz).

Sub-construction in RAUVISIO 3 mm
The 54 push-on sleeve is a special product for the manual router and
can be ordered from REHAU using Art. No. 1282839. The position of
the sink is determined by the dimensions of the base units and
marked on the underside of the worktop. Fix the router template to the
bottom of the worktop in the corresponding position. Cut the contour
using the guide bush and push-on sleeve. Turn the sheet over (the
template remains fixed to the bottom) and mill the radius on the top
edge of the cut-out. After this, remove the protective film from the
surface.
Sand trimmed edges and surfaces to the desired end finish. The
“matt” finish is recommended for worktops. AQUASINO sinks are also
supplied with the “matt” end finish. Turn the sheet back over. With the
guide bush fitted but without the push-on sleeve, use the same
template to cleanly cut a 12 mm rebate the full depth of the substrate
up to the RAUVISIO mineral sheet. The adhesive surface should be
free of swarf and adhesive residue (Fig. 38).
Holes in wood-based substrates should be sealed against moisture
ingress prior to the assembly of fittings, so that swelling of the
substrate due to moisture can be prevented. Best suited for this is a
2-component epoxy cast resin, carried out as per Fig. 35.
Alternatively, a fabricated block of glued RAUVISIO mineral (with
minimum dimensions 55 x 55 for standard fittings) in the thickness of

Manually sand the adhesion surface of the sink all around at a width
of 8 mm with grade P80 sandpaper. Clean the adhesion surfaces of
the sink and RAUVISIO mineral edge with acetone or methylated spirit
and do not touch them afterwards.

The smallest bending radius is approx. R50 for 3 mm sheets,
approx. R70 for 6 mm sheets, and approx. R100 for 10 mm
sheets. This statement is a non-binding reference value and must be
trialled by the fabricator with their heating elements, particularly for
dark and coarse decorative designs.
Different decorative designs require different heating times, so these
specifications can serve only as reference values. Check the plasticity
several times during heating or test in advance on a material remnant.
One male and one female template is generally required for shaping
(original component and counterpart). A clearance must be observed
between the templates, which matches the sheet thickness of the
RAUVISIO mineral material to be shaped (Fig. 41 and 42).
Cooling period: Remove the formed component from the templates
only once the temperature has cooled to min. 70 °C (check by hand).
If the temperature on removal from the templates is too high, there is
a risk that the shaped part will return to its original shape.
Whitening after shaping is an indication that the heating time was too
short or the radii are too small, whitening after heating is an indication
that the heating time was too long or the temperature was too high.
Neither of these faults can be corrected retrospectively.
The use of fan heaters or partial heating is not permitted as
these cause stress in the RAUVISIO mineral material. The result
is cracking of the RAUVISIO mineral (Fig. 43).

REPAIR
Scratches or minor damage can be removed by re-sanding In the case
of more extensive damage, RAUVISIO mineral surfaces may be routed
out and repaired with a matching insert (from the same batch) of
RAUVISIO mineral. Joints are almost invisible.
The repair insert is bonded in using RAUVISIO 2-component acrylic
adhesive of the matching decorative design which fills a maximum
clearance of 0.1 mm between the removed damaged section and the
insert.
For more accurate fitting of the insert to the removed section, and
taking account of the router cutters to be used, each fabricator should
produce their own templates. The template material should not absorb
any moisture (e.g. foam PVC or ABS sheets). The thickness of the
material for the templates must be greater than the height of the
router guide bush. A seamless repair is best achieved using round
templates, if the piece being repaired has a Ø of approx. 100 mm.
Repairs may be carried out on site at the customer.
Remove the damaged area using a router and negative template (the
router guide bush is guided along the template inner contour). Fix the
template over the damaged area using double-sided adhesive tape
(Fig. 46).

The routing depth should be set slightly greater than the thickness of
the RAUVISIO mineral insert material.
In order to avoid air inclusions in the repair and so that any surplus
adhesive can run off, drill at least one hole in the substrate (not right
through) at the damaged area. Clean all adhesion surfaces with
acetone or methylated spirit and do not touch them afterwards.
Apply RAUVISIO mineral 2-component acrylic adhesive that matches
the decorative design of the sheet in a wave shape and place a
complete bead of adhesive along the cut edge. Using contact
adhesive, affix two softwood blocks to the repair insert, such that
they overhang the edge of the circular area by 3-4 cm on both sides.
Flush fixing to the surface of the sheet is achieved in this way
(Fig. 48).

For repairs, a section of RAUVISIO mineral from the same sheet
batch should be enclosed with every consignment and advice
given to the customer.
Router the repair insert from the section of RAUVISIO mineral supplied
using the positive template (the router guide bush is run along the
template outer contour), (Fig. 47).

Place the insert into the repair area and turn it back and forth until the
adhesive forms a continuous bead at the joint and the decorative
design ideally matches the decorative design of the sheet, apply
gentle pressure until the glue has hardened.

Once the adhesive has hardened, carefully break off the wood pieces.
Sand flat the protruding adhesive bead and any splinters from the
softwood blocks using a belt sander (P150). The finishing of the
repair piece must be carried out with the corresponding abrasives
used for the end finish of the original sheet in order to avoid the need
to re-sand the entire surface.
Sanding the joint in the repair piece or refinishing the surfaces
with the 3M Finesse-it refinishing set No. 60475 is easy for the
customer and does not produce any dust.

the Oro, Antracite and Grigio metallic decorative designs
If 3 mm sheets are not processed on a 45° mitre, the edgeband
should always be placed under the 3 mm surface!

Processing Visione decorative designs in 3 mm thickness
In order to show off the particular visual effect of these decorative
designs, the surfaces and edges of the substrates need to be coated
with a white base colour:
--For wood-based substrates and substrates made from other
materials, Sikaflex 11FC white adhesive is applied to the whole
surface. The substrates are coated with a white priming film prior to
this in order to achieve an even surface colour. The reverse of the
RAUVISIO mineral sheets must be pre-treated with Sika adhesion
cleaner 1, allow to air prior to adhesion for 10 min.
--This treatment with Sika adhesion cleaner 1 and Sikaflex 11FC white
is used for Visione sheets and Visione sheets printed on the reverse
--Pre-coat all visible edges of the wood-based or PU material
substrates with a thin, white melamine edge (do not use polymer
edges)
--With PU substrates, use a PU hotmelt to bond the melamine edge.
--Apply the melamine edge and trim flush
--Pre-sand the melamine edges with grade P80 sandpaper and clean
them with methylated spirit or acetone, do not touch adhesion
surfaces after cleaning
--Glue Visione surface
--Glue the Visione edgeband to the white melamine edge with transparent 2-component acrylic adhesive (undermount fitted)
The acrylic adhesive does not stick to polymer edges!
The butt joints, edgeband joints and joints of the repair inserts
used are visible in RAUVISIO Visione.
These decorative designs are characterised by a new look resulting
from the special dispersion of metallic flecks within the material.
Due to the flat orientation of the flake-shaped metallic flecks, they are
more apparent when the sheet is viewed face on. The cross-section
(front face) of the sheet appears to be a single base colour, with the
flecks being far less apparent, when examining the material side on.
The illusion of a single solid body is achieved for all material thicknesses with a 45° joint between the surface and the edge move to the
top (Fig. 49).

translucence.
The scratch resistance of these decorative designs is lower than the
others of the RAUVISIO mineral collection.
We recommend this decorative design range for decorative
applications and not for worktops.

The visual appearance of the surface can change as a result of the
alignment of the metallic flecks, especially where 90°-180° rotated
sheets are joined (corner and butt joints). The best overall impression
in terms of colour is demonstrated by laying the sheets together prior
to gluing. (Wet the sheets for a better evaluation). Ideally, the end
result will also be conveyed to the end customer prior to joining.
For decorative designs with metallic flecks, the best visual effect is
achieved with a manual semi-gloss or gloss end finish.
However, a semi-gloss or gloss finish is recommended for decorative
surfaces only; worktops should have a matt/supermatt finish.
The depth effect and shine of these decorative designs can be
optimised for worktops using the matt/supermatt end finish by
carrying out the last finishing stage with a damp Scotch-Brite pad
7447 red or 7448 grey.

As the colour intensity and gloss level of the solid surface materials
increase, scratches become more apparent. Black and dark grey
decorative designs with a high gloss end finish are comparable with
lacquered surfaces.
Unlike other materials, the surface of RAUVISIO mineral can be
regenerated by re-sanding. This product advantage is standard
with all decorative designs, even if the end finish has different
gloss levels.

SANDING/END FINISH
RAUVISIO mineral sheets are delivered with a front surface pre-finish
of grade P600 and a rear surface finish of grade P80. The end finish
for the visible surfaces is produced manually by the fabricator using
an orbital sander, as this is the only way to generate a directionless
sanding appearance. Sand with low surface pressure in order to
prevent overheating of the solid surface sheet.

dependent on the application purpose.

detailed advice and information about advantages and
disadvantages.

ASSEMBLY GUIDELINES RAUVISIO MINERAL
1. Transport the raw sheets and fabricated sheet elements on the
original pallet from the delivery lengthwise only.
2. Sheets must be unloaded/loaded with a fork lift not from the long
side, but always from the short side of the pallet.
3. Always store raw sheets and fabricated sheets on the original
pallet.
4. Do not store raw sheets and fabricated sheets in damp rooms and
not directly on the ground.
5. Do not store raw sheets and fabricated sheets either outside or in
areas with strong UV light sources.
6. Do not carry raw sheets and fabricated sheets horizontally, always
vertically.
7. Allow fabricated sheets to acclimatise prior to installation for at
least 24 hours at room temperature (min. 18 °C), at a delivery
temperature below 0 °C, acclimatise at room temperature for 48
hours, every individual element should be in contact with the air
on all sides.
8. For indoor applications, not for outdoor applications.
9. Check materials and components prior to processing/assembly for
damage and defects.
10.Temporary storage prior to installation exclusively in the original
packaging, in frost-free conditions in closed rooms.
11.Align the load-bearing substructure (e.g. floor cabinet) for base
panels and worktops so that they are flat and horizontal, screw
together so that they are rigid.
12.No direct and indirect fixing to the wall, subsidence in the floor
leads to stress cracking.
13.In order to avoid stress cracking, do not apply tension during
processing and assembly.
14.Do not bring unprotected corners of element connections of
wood-based substrate materials into contact with moisture prior to
assembly.
15.Seal the joints of element connections of wood-based substrate
materials so that they are waterproof and watertight.
16.Seal all cut-out edges and raw sheet edges of wood-based
substrates so that they are waterproof during assembly.
17.Seal all holes in wood-based substrates so that they are waterproof during assembly.
18.Do not use tools on the surface of the object directly.
19.When fitting base panels and worktops between two walls, allow
for a 3mm expansion joint on both sides and at the window sill on
three sides.
20.In the case of worktops with multiple parts, check the accurate
location prior to assembly.
21.Fit the discharge plate above the appliances with sub-constructions that create heat, cold or moisture.
22.The sub-construction in the area of the narrow panel strips around
sinks, hobs and cut-outs must be sufficiently secured and
load-bearing, worktop supported along the complete area, floor
cabinets screwed to the worktop.
23.Strong solvents, special cleaners (e.g. drain cleaners, industrial
cleaners) and strong chemical substances may damage the
surfaces.

1. The walls to be covered must meet the state of the art of the

2. Damp walls require analysis and repair by a construction specialist

3. Remove loose paint, check the paint for compatibility with the

3. The top edge of the floor including floor covering is to be matched
to the installation height of the top edge of the shower tray.
4. Position the shower tray at the intended installation location and
mark the position for the drain.
5. Position the drain, lubricate the rubber seal in the flange with
lubricant and connect the drain to the drainage pipe.
6. For vertical drainage through the ceiling the ceiling break is
subsequently to be filled.
7. The top seal of the drain housing must be positioned horizontally.
The drainage pipe should have a gradient of min. 1 %.
8. Fix the drain in the floor with adhesive or mortar.
Insulate the wall seal for the drainage pipe with a wall collar.

9. Check the leaktightness of the drain with 2 l of water. Cover the
drain to protect it from dirt.
10.Position the 60 mm compensating plate made from XPS foam
above the drain and cut to the contour of the drain and the
drainage pipe with a blade/slitting saw.
11.Glue the compensating plate to the floor across the whole surface
without gaps with polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive.
Where necessary, glue on the second 20 mm compensating plate.
12.Check the horizontal positioning of the compensating plate(s) with
a spirit level.
13.Fill any remaining gaps in the area of the drain and drainage pipe
completely with screed.
14.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive evenly across the
compensating plate and adjoining wall and floor areas.
15.Position the shower tray with the seal at the drain connection and
press against the adhesive bed across the whole surface. Ensure
that the seal is located exactly and so that it fits correctly.
16.Lay the protruding non-woven sealing skirt around the bottom of
the shower tray in the adhesive bed in the adjoining wall and floor
areas and press down without creasing.
17.Check with a spirit level that the shower tray has a gradient of 2 %
and that the water easily flows from the surface.
18.Connect the shower tray to the drain and screw in firmly. Whilst
the adhesive sets distribute weight evenly across the shower tray,
e.g. using packets of tiles or similar.
19.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive to the adjoining walls
in the area of the shower and bed in the non-woven sealing skirt
without creases or bubbles. For RAUVISIO shower walls with a
non-woven material coating on the reverse, only one strip of
non-woven material is required for the corners of the shower walls
or the element joint. The non-woven sealing skirt must overlap by
at least 10 cm at the joins between the lengths/elements.
20.Apply polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive where the non-woven
sealing skirt overlaps.

13.1.6.2Polymer-modified, waterproof thin bed mortar for the
bonding of shower trays and shower walls to mineral
fixed level surfaces indoors
1. Processing
-- Processing at 5–25 °C.
-- Surface must be free from dust, dry, free from dirt, releasing
agent and screed residue.
-- Roughen the surface of the old tiles or pre-treat with caustic lye
according to the manufacturer‘s instructions. Check that the
RAUVISIO elements are sufficiently adhesive prior to bonding.
-- Prime extremely absorbent surfaces with a mixture 1:1 water
and adhesive.
-- Mix the adhesive evenly with 30 % water (1.4–1.6 litres water
for 5 kg adhesive), stir well again after 3 min.
-- The mixture should be used within 30 min., do not use excess
mortar after this.
-- Apply a contact layer to smooth surfaces with a smoothing
trowel where necessary.
Apply the adhesive to the contact layer with a serrated scraper
whilst it is still wet.
-- Press down the RAUVISIO elements evenly and firmly.
-- Remove dirt and clean tools with water before they dry.
-- Keep freshly bonded elements out of drafts.
-- Only put pressure on freshly bonded elements after 2 days, at
temperatures below 18 °C after 3 days.
-- Apply weight evenly to the shower tray immediately after
bonding, e.g. with packets of tiles.

13.1.6.5Visible faces shower tray
The visible faces can be covered with RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm for
shower trays that are not installed at floor height.
A stainless steel elbow can be used as an alternative to covers made
from RAUVISIO mineral 10 mm, e.g. bonding with Ottocoll M500,
Soudaseal 240FC or similar.
13.1.6.6General information about designing wet rooms
1. Apply non-woven sealing skirts to the corners with an overlap of
min. 10 cm. The use of a sealing tap with an elastic centre part is
recommended for heavy loads.
2. For gap-free sealing of connecting or expanding joints the depth
and width of the joints are to be matched to each other.
3. A fungicidal sanitary silicone, e.g. Ottoseal S130 or similar (ensure
bonding on both sides) is recommended for sealing connecting or
expansion joints. Where necessary, insert a rope seal into the joint
to be sealed beforehand.

4. Connecting or expansion joints are maintenance joints that have to
checked regularly and replaced where necessary according to the
seal manufacturer‘s specifications, e.g. OTTO Chemie or similar.
5. Open joints should be avoided in wet rooms to prevent dirt/
stagnant moisture/mould.
6. When designing floor level showers, showers with floor drain or
showers without a wall construction, the entire floor of the room is
to be sealed against water ingress. The connection to the
non-woven sealing skirt around the shower tray must be carried
out so that it is watertight and in a manner suitable for the system,
see Fig. 58/59.
The current information of the ”The Central Association of German
Construction Companies / The German tile and natural stone
association” for the ”production of seals in conjunction with tile or
panel claddings and coverings for indoor use” is to be noted and
observed, so that water ingress does not cause damage to the

1. In each case 2 elements with the visible face facing inwards with
a full surface paper or cardboard interim layer, all external edges
with shock protection, e.g. cardboard angle or similar.

against impact along the entire length with fixed HDF/MDF
tongues and packing tape, e.g. 7 x 3 mm tongue for a groove

adhesive that is planned to be used for the wall elements and
pre-treat with caustic lye where necessary.
4. Remove loose non-woven sealing skirt, pre-treat existing old tiles
with caustic lye, correct unevenness.
5. All adhesive surfaces are to be free from dust, dirt and grease.
13.2.6 Assembly guidelines wall elements
1. Prior to fitting the wall elements in the corners of rooms, apply a
non-woven sealing skirt at least 10 cm wide to the floor and
ceiling connections and in the area of the connecting joints of the
elements. Bonding with polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive,
apply with a 5 mm serrated scraper, bed in the non-woven sealing
skirt without creasing.
2. Install the elements at room temperature, min. 18 °C
ATo firmly bonded layers of old tiles with permanently elastic PU
adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T54 Parquet or similar, or with a special
polymer-modified flexible tile adhesive approved for bonding to tiles.
Even application with a 5 mm serrated scraper, bonding within the

13.2.6.4Assembling 23 mm elements to partition wall constructions
Removable elements suspended on the partition wall in the wood or
metal construction (e.g. with light design, covering water, waste water,
electrical installations or maintenance of installations) with hook-on
profiles, e.g. fit Häfele Art. 783.50.955 or similar across the whole
element width, spacing between the profiles max. 60 cm, 5 rows of
hook-on profiles for a room height of 2.60 m. Fix the hook-on profiles
to the XPS sheet with PU adhesive, fix until the adhesive sets e.g. with
Spax screws, screwed in manually without any pre-drilling, or with
suitable 20 mm double sided adhesive tape for use on cement mortar.

Floor elements
Elements for floors/wet room floors can also be manufactured with
RAUVISIO mineral.
RAUVISIO in the material thickness 6-10 mm is used to do this. Floor
coverings made from RAUVISIO can be laid on screed or existing tiled
floors.

13.4.1 Requirements on floors on the construction site
13.4.5 Cleaning floors with a non-slip surface
1. The floors to be covered must meet the state of the art of the
generally recognised rules of the profession and must be dry.
2. Damp floors require analysis and repair by a construction
specialist and, where specified, must be dried if necessary before
floor elements with RAUVISIO/RAUVISIO floors can be fitted.
3. Remove loose non-woven sealing skirt, pre-treat existing old tiles
with caustic lye, correct unevenness.
4. All adhesive surfaces are to be even, dry and free from dust, dirt
and grease.
Only clean non-slip surfaces with cleaning agents that do not contain
any water repellent additives, lubricants, gloss enhancers, wax,
silicone or similar. Any of these additives in the cleaner will create a
patina and will cause smearing/staining and will make the non-slip
surface ineffective.
13.4.2 RAUVISIO floor covering with XPS sheet
Elements made from the XPS lightweight sheet and RAUVISIO 6 mm
are used in the case of requirements for additional thermal and sound
insulation, or for height compensation for flush-fitting showers.
The elements with the XPS sheet are bonded to screed or tiles sanded
with P80 across the whole surface with polymer-modified elastic tile
adhesive. Apply the adhesive evenly with a 5 mm serrated scraper and
press down on the sheets evenly with a suitable tool, e.g. metal roller/
metal cylinder or similar. Note the adhesive manufacturer‘s instructions. The bonded surface can be walked on after 24 h, after 48 h at
temperatures below 15 °C.
13.4.3 RAUVISIO floor covering without XPS sheet
RAUVISIO 6/10 mm can be bonded directly to even surfaces made
from screed or to tiles pre-treated with caustic lye with a permanently
elastic PU adhesive, e.g. Sikabond T54 Parquet (Sika) or similar across
the whole surface. Apply the adhesive evenly with a 5 mm serrated
scraper and press down on the sheets evenly with a suitable tool, e.g.
metal roller/metal cylinder or similar. Note the information in the
adhesive manufacturer‘s safety data sheet. The bonded surface can
be walked on after 24 h, after 48 h at temperatures below 15 °C and/
or relative air humidity below 50 %.
13.4.4 Non-slip design for wet room floors
13.4.6 General information about designing floors for wet
rooms
1. When installing flush-fitting shower trays it is necessary to create
a waterproof seal across the entire surface of the adjacent floor by
sticking on a non-woven sealing skirt (joints of the non-woven
sealing skirt must overlap by min. 10 cm), before the new floor
surface is laid.
2. For gap-free sealing of joints between sheet elements and
connecting of expanding joints the depth and width of the joints
are to be matched to each other, min. joint width 6 mm.
3. A fungicidal sanitary silicone, e.g. Ottoseal S130 or similar (ensure
bonding on both sides) is recommended for sealing joints between
sheet elements and connecting or expansion joints. Insert a rope
seal into the joints to be sealed beforehand where necessary.
4. Connecting or expansion joints are maintenance joints that have to
checked regularly and replaced where necessary according to the
seal manufacturer‘s specifications, e.g. OTTO-Chemie or similar.
The current information of the ”The Central Association of German
Construction Companies / The German tile and natural stone
association” for the ”production of seals in conjunction with tile or
panel claddings and coverings for indoor use” is to be noted and
observed, so that water ingress does not cause damage to the
building.
REHAU does not accept any liability for processing that is not resulting
damage.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE FOR END USERS
Congratulations on choosing a product made from this high quality
and durable material.
RAUVISIO mineral is a solid and through-coloured solid surface material made from natural minerals and acrylic. This non-porous, homogeneous material is hygienic, has been officially certificated for contact
with food and is resistant to fungal and bacterial growth.
RAUVISIO mineral is pleasant to the touch, warm and has an excellent
visual depth effect.
RAUVISIO mineral is resistant to all household chemicals and
disinfectants, extended use of aggressive substances can leave marks
or damage the material.
Chemical-resistance as per the table on Page 33. The user is to check
the suitability of the substances not listed here themselves. Refinishing can be carried out by a specialist.
In contrast to the familiar laminate surfaces, the solid surface material
RAUVISIO mineral can be repaired. Small indents and scratches or
flecks caused by cigarette burns can be removed with a Scotch-Brite
sponge or wet P400 sandpaper.
The surface finish is then restored by a specialist.
The specialist can also repair areas of damage.
Use of cleaning agents
Fully utilise the hygienic properties of RAUVISIO mineral in day-to-day
use by removing soiling immediately if possible with a damp cloth.
The basis of any soiling is the water composition, in particular the lime
content and non-continuous cleaning. Do not soak surfaces over a
long period of time with aggressive chemical substances, e.g. oven or
drain cleaners, hydrogen peroxide, nail varnish remover, paint
thinners, acetone, turpentine, chlorine or disinfectant.
The specialist can remove damage to the surface caused by chemicals or disinfectants using a suitable sanding stage and refinishing.
Matt surface
Cleaning work surfaces, sinks and washbasins with stainless
steel bases
Simple cleaning using a damp sponge or microfiber cloth and a
grease-dissolving detergent without moisturiser is sufficient. Specks of
fat and oil are also removed.

juice, coffee, tea) with a soft sponge and a liquid cleaner (without
scouring agent). You can also use dishwasher, ceramic hob or bath
cleaners.

power spray with active bleach and a soft sponge. Note the
manufacturer‘s instructions for use.
Remove lime stains with vinegar-based cleaners, vinegar or a

High gloss surface
High gloss surfaces are very susceptible to scratching and require a
high level of care. These surfaces are suitable for decorative applications, but not for work surfaces.
Refinishing of the surface to the original condition will be carried
out by your supplier/specialist.
Damage to horizontal or vertical surfaces, e.g. also wall elements can
be repaired by a specialist using a repair insert so that it is almost
invisible.

MATERIAL WARRANTY
For defined material properties of the RAUVISIO mineral materials
REHAU gives its contractual partners on first installation a limited
warranty from delivery from the REHAU warehouse in the case of
processing, assembly and use in line with specification in accordance
with TI M53620 of:
--10 years for sheet material
--  5 years for sinks and washbasins
If there is evidence of damage being caused to products made from
RAUVISIO mineral due to a material defect, this will be reimbursed in
the form of repair or replacement:
--In the first and second year after delivery 100 % of the material
costs and 100 % of the fabricator‘s pure manufacturing costs for the
replacement
--In the third to the fifth year after delivery 100 % of the material
costs and 50 % of the fabricator‘s pure manufacturing costs for the
replacement
--In the sixth to the seventh year after delivery 25 % of the material
costs
--In the case of repair, any adhesive joints required and slight colour
variations in the RAUVISIO mineral material must be accepted
Damage and defects due to the following causes are excluded
from the material warranty:

--Impermissible use of aggressive chemicals, disinfectants, cleaners
or scouring agents, also by third parties
--Scratches and wear and tear due to use of the facility
--Scratches due to the sanded underside of porcelain or ceramic
--Deep scratches and wear and tear due to use of the facility in the
case of decorative designs and/or higher gloss levels than matt

--Slight variations in the material thickness, colour nuances and
nuances in the particle distribution
--Use of force against the installation
--Vandalism, disasters or results of war
--Force majeure
Breaching the guidelines in this Technical Information, also in
individual points, will lead to the immediate loss of the material
warranty.
A warranty claim only exists if the REHAU delivery note and the
acceptance report for the installation with the sheet batches
used can be produced.
Conditions of the warranty
--Hand over Technical Information to the firm carrying out further
fabrication and assembly
--Processing and assembly according to TI M53620
--Hand over instructions for use Section 17 to the end user/end
customer or project manager
--Obtain the signature of the end user/end customer/project manager
and fabricator on the acceptance report Section 19
--Delivery notes of the materials and batch no. of the mineral sheets
used can be provided
Repair or replacement within this warranty must be carried out
by REHAU or a party acting on behalf of REHAU.
If you have a warranty claim, please contact your responsible
REHAU sales office directly.
With the exception of the assurances made here, no other specific or
implied assurances regarding the minimum quality or the assurance
that the product is suitable for a particular purpose are made by this
warranty. REHAU will not under any circumstances accept liability for
any loss or damage which results from the sale, use of or inability to
use this product, or for any particular, unrelated incidents or consequential losses.
Place of jurisdiction
The material warranty for RAUVISIO mineral is subject to German law.
The place of jurisdiction for any disputes regarding this warranty or its
design or implementation is Hof/Saale.
