Class Email Distribution Lists
Class email distribution lists are maintained by IT to facilitate email communications between faculty and students in their various course sections. During the
academic term all address lists are refreshed nightly by IT based on add/drop
activity in the registration system (Colleague). The Official Trent Course Section
Email Distribution List is available online for quick reference to the latest section
addresses which now includes automatic cross-listing.
First, instructors must be authorized to use the Distribution List system. If you
receive a "permission denied" message on an "undeliverable message" then you
must request this authorization via an email message to [email protected]
For teachers using Blackboard, the best way to contact your class is by using
the "Announcements" tool or the "Discussions" tool in your learningSystem/
Blackboard site. Information sent using those tools can never be lost, misdirected or deleted by accident. Students added to your class late can catch up on
all important announcements as well if you use the learningSystem/Blackboard.

Imaging is the automated installation of the university’s managed operating
system software on new or existing computers. IT provides desktop and laptop
imaging service for Trent-owned standard computers for staff and faculty as
well as desktop imaging in IT managed computer labs and classrooms. (Note:
since images are hardware specific non-standard computers may not be serviceable) IT develops, tests and deploys operating software images and distribution
tools which provides a standardized operating platform for staff and faculty to
access the latest in office productivity and multi-media software.
When a technical problem has rendered a computer inoperable or unreliable
staff and faculty can submit an IT Service Request and bring their Trent-owned
computer to the Service Desk for reimaging. The imaging process is an automated software installation function which provides a quick way to completely reinstall all software on the computer’s hard drive back to its original “like-new”
state returning the machine back to service in very quickly.

Description
Encryption is a security feature which can be used to protect the privacy of
data stored on a computer’s harddrive. Data secured with encryption usually
requires a two-factor key system to gain access such as a password and private key file. This provides stronger security for those needing to protect sensitive information on their computers .
Information Technology recommends the following for those wanting to use
encryption on their computer:
For Trent owned and personally owned computers
For computers using Windows 7 (Ultimate or Enterprise)
- Use built in encryption
For computer running Windows 8.1 (Professional and Enterprise)
- Use built-in encryption
For Windows machines not running the above versions of Windows,
1. Upgrade to Windows 7 (Ultimate or Enterprise) or Windows 8.1 (Professional
and Enterprise). Trent owned Windows machines should be upgraded to the
Trent Image, where possible.
2. If an upgrade is not feasible (e.g., due to the age of the computer), use DiskCryptor…. https://diskcryptor.net/wiki/Main_Page
For all Mac Computers
- Use Mac’s built-in encryption
