Dwelling Unit Fireplace Materials
A.
Naturally Direct Vented Natural Gas Burning Fireplace:
1.
This unit shall be provided in the B2.0, B2.1, B2.4 and B2.5 Apartment Units.
2.
Prefabricated units, designed for naturally vented gas burning see through with
refractory lined at bottom and sides. Bi-fold glass doors, log grate, flue, factory
built rain caps, elbows, firestop spacers, chase flashing, and decorative chase
termination caps, wall switch for on/ off operation.
3.
Flues shall be U. L. approved double wall B-Vent construction properly sized to

the firebox and chimney heights.
Conform to NFPA Standard No. 211, local codes, and be UL listed and labeled.

B.
Naturally Vented Natural Gas Burning “Peninsula” Fireplace:
1.
This unit shall be provided in the A3.0 apartment unit only.
2.
Prefabricated three sided see-through unit, designed for naturally vented gas
burning with refractory lined at back, bottom and sides.
3.
Provide bi-fold glass doors, log grate, flue, factory built rain caps, elbows, firestop
spacers, chase flashing, and decorative chase termination caps, wall switch for
on/ off operation.
4.
Flues shall be U. L. approved double wall B-Vent construction properly sized to
the firebox and chimney heights.
5.
Conform to NFPA Standard No. 211, local codes, and be UL listed and labeled.
6.
Acceptable Products and Manufacturers:

Majestic NVCVR36

Others as approved by the Owner and Architect.
C.
Fireplace Surrounds: Provide pre-cast fireplace fronts, hearths, and mantles, as
indicated on the drawings. Materials shall be or equal to those manufactured by Cast
Fireplaces, 1645 Britmore Road, Houston, Texas 77043, (713) 984-9158 as follows:
1.
Style “EM-36” for standard fireplaces
2.
Style “Peninsula” for the three sided peninsula fireplaces.
D.
Metal Chimney Caps
1.
Provide metal chimney caps in sizes, shapes and configurations as indicated on
the drawings.
2.
Caps shall be constructed of 22 gauge min. galvanized iron. All joints shall be
welded tight. Sealants are not acceptable for joint sealers.
Clubhouse Fireplace Materials
A.
Naturally Direct Vented Natural Gas Burning Fireplace:

This unit shall be provided inside the Clubhouse:

Prefabricated see-through unit, designed for naturally vented gas burning with
refractory lined at bottom and sides.
3.
Provide bright brass framed bi-fold glass doors, log grate, flue, factory built rain
caps, elbows, firestop spacers, chase flashing, and decorative chase termination
caps and spark arrestors. Provide natural gas for gas log set.
4.
Flues shall be U. L. approved double wall construction properly sized to the
firebox and chimney heights.
5.
Conform to NFPA Standard No. 211, local codes, and be UL listed and labeled.
6.
Acceptable Products:

Heatilator GDST5244I

Others as approved by the Owner and Architect.

Fireplace Fronts, Hearths, and Mantles: Refer Interior Designer’s drawings and
specifications.

Metal Chimney Caps
1.
Provide metal chimney caps in sizes, shapes and configurations as indicated on
the drawings.
2.

EXECUTION
3.01
Installation
A.
This Contractor shall furnish and install all fireboxes, pipe sections, elbow, rain caps,
flashings, and miscellaneous connectors or stripping. All fireplaces and related
equipment shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s written
specifications.
B.
Install in accordance with approval listings, shop drawings, and in strict accordance with
manufacturer’s written specifications and recommendations, and in strict accordance
with the building code
C.
Chimney flues shall be fire blocked at floor/ceiling and ceiling penetrations. All metal
chimneys’ penetrating fire rated floor assemblies shall be enclosed in rated shaft
assemblies as indicated on the drawings.
D.
The Contractor shall cut through roof deck for the vent pipe. Wood trusses shall not be
cut to allow passage of flues without the Architect's written permission.
E.
Offset angle runs equipped with flue supports spaced at 6’-0” centers maximum,
secured to building components. Supports for vertical flue spaced in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions
F.
Roof flashing and counter flashing shall be installed prior to roofing.
G.
Protective screens shall be installed by this Contractor to the proper length to provide
easy movement.
H.
Extend flue above roof curb as required by manufacturer, building code, and approval
listing.
I.
All fire boxes and vent pipes shall be securely anchored to prevent any movement and
shall have proper clearance from all wood materials. All recommended clearances
must be observed for fire protection.
J.
Chimney caps are to be installed in a manner to provide rigidly secured attachments
and shall be rendered water tight.
K.
All fireplace decorative surrounds shall be installed in accordance with the
manufactures written instructions. All joints and seams shall be aligned and uniform
and shall be grouted with approved colored grout materials. Mantels shall be installed
in a manner to support a concentrated load of 100 pounds.
