DAVIS | SensorLink | Additional Displays for Wireless Stations

ADDITIONAL DISPLAYS FOR WIRELESS STATIONS
Application Note
21
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this Application Note is to describe the steps involved in adding multiple display consoles to
receive data from a single wireless station sensor array.
REQUIREMENTS
The following components are required:
- Weather Monitor II or Weather Wizard III Station (#7440 or #7425)
- SensorLink Transmitter (#7610)
- Additional Console/Receiver(s) (#7973R for Monitor II, or #7970R for Wizard III)
PROCEDURE
Setting up each additional console is accomplished in the same way as setting up the first station console.
Complete instructions can be found in the SensorLink installation manual that comes with the purchase of
the Davis SensorLink Receiver.
The installation involves plugging the receiver into the display console, choosing a location for the display
console within range of the transmitter, and then testing the receiver at that location for good reception. If
there are several wireless weather stations transmitting data in the same area, then an additional step might be
to set the dip switches on the receiver(s) and transmitter to a unique ID code so that you only receive the data
from your own transmitter.
The range of the radio transmission depends on several factors. Try to position the console (with receiver) as
close as possible to the transmitter for best results.
Typical maximum ranges:
- Line of Sight: 400 feet (120 m)
- Through Walls and Ceilings: 100 to 200 feet (30 to 60 m)
- Through Trees and Foliage: 100 to 200 feet (30 to 60 m)
To be sure your receiver is in range, test the proposed locations as described in the SensorLink installation
manual.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DISPLAYS
There is no limit to the number of additional consoles that may be employed in this way.
