SERVICE INFORMATION
Product
Ridgid Cordless Drill model R83001
Service Coverage
All models R83001 with a date code prior to G0344.
Condition
When replacing the motor and gear box assembly (part 984965001), it may
include the clutch cap assembly when ordered. If the clutch cap is included on
the assembly, the entire assembly will not fit the drill housing and the clutch
cap assembly will need to be removed. If the clutch cap assembly is not
included with the motor and gear box assembly, there is no need to modify the
part.
Remedy
If the clutch cap assembly is included as part of the motor and gear box
assembly (part 984965001) when ordered, the clutch cap assembly will need to
be removed prior to replacing the motor and gear box assembly. The newer
style handle mount (R83001 drill after date code G0343) will not fit the older
drill housing.
Service Procedures
To remove the clutch cap assembly from the new motor and gear box assembly:
1. Remove four screws from the spring plate holder and spring plates (2).
2. Remove clutch cap, plastic sleeve, torque control spring, washers (2), handle
mount, and clutch pins.
Note: Replace longer clutch pins with short pins from original motor and
