Zimmer DDOC00734 Manual

Zimmer DDOC00734 is a control module designed to simplify the operation of up to two Zimmer Group IO-Link grippers. It acts as a bridge between IO-Link grippers and a controller, offering easy control via 12 digital inputs and outputs. This module is configured with PC-based software for setup and can be operated independently after configuration. It provides a user-friendly interface through ZG_IO_Link_HMI software for teaching grippers, monitoring operation, and accessing expert-level settings.

Non-compliance may result in severe injuries!
1. Installation, commissioning, maintenance or repair may only be carried out by qualified personnel in
accordance with these installation and operating instructions.
2. The SCM module is state-of-the-art. It is used on industrial machines to communicate between a maximum of
two Zimmer GmbH IO-Link handling devices and a controller. Communication to the controller is over digital
IO at a level of 24 V. The SCM module is designed for installation in control cabinets or similar and complies
with protection class IP20. It is mounted on a profile rail. The following are examples of situations in which the
device may pose a hazard:
• The device is not properly fitted, used or maintained
• The device is not used for its intended purpose
• Local regulations (legislation, decrees, guidelines), such as the EC Machinery Directive, accident
prevention regulations and the assembly and operating instructions, are not observed.
3. The device may only be used in accordance with its intended use and technical data.
4. Any use other than the intended use requires written approval from Zimmer GmbH.
5. Make sure that the power supply is disconnected before you install, retool, maintain or repair the device.

3 Proper use
NOTE
The SCM module is only to be used in its original state with its original accessories, with no unauthorized
changes and within the scope of its defined parameters for use. Zimmer GmbH shall accept no liability for any
damage caused by improper use.
Use outside of the defined parameters is not permitted. Unauthorized electrical or mechanical modifica-tions must not be
made. The SCM module is designed exclusively for electric operation using a 24 VDC power supply. Direct contact with
perishable goods/food is not permitted.
4 Personnel qualification
Installation, commissioning and maintenance may only be performed by specialists. These personnel must have read and
understood the installation and operating instructions in full.
5 Product description
The SCM module is used to easily control up to 2 Zimmer Group IO-Link grippers. The control from the per-spective of the
higher-level control takes place via 12 digital inputs and outputs each.
The SCM module thus acts as an IO-Link to a digital IO gateway for easy use of the IO-Link grippers.
The module is therefore configured with PC-based software and can then be operated without the PC. For configuration or
diagnostics via Ethernet connection, the PC is connected to the lower RJ45 socket with a commercially available network
cable.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: SCM-Module
8 Commissioning
After the SCM module is correctly wired, the desired grippers are connected and the power supply is switched on, the
device first starts up.
During this, first the power LEDs light up briefly in green. Then Status1/2 blink on the base module as long as grippers are
being searched for. (Depending on the last saved configuration on the SCM module).
8.1 Establishing the connection to the SCM module
DDOC00734 / b
EN / 2020-07-28
Now connect the PC with the installed Zimmer HMI software ZG_IO_Link_HMI in version 2.0.1.22 or higher. In the upper
right corner, the three control levels are shown:
• expertZ is an expert level where all data of the gripper can be accessed
• guideZ is a configuration level where the gripper can be taught to the desired workpiece
• monitorZ is a diagnostic and observation level for monitoring the grippers during operation

8.3 Switching on the motor and referencing
The progress of the guideZ process is indicated by the white bar at the bottom.
The green power-supply LED on the right side indicates if the actuator voltage is connected.
Only when the LED at the bottom
right in the step-state field lights up green can the button be used to move to the next
step. In this case, the gripper motor is still switched off.
ÖÖ It is best to switch the motor on by using one of the two reference-run buttons.
-- The gripper will also reference outwards or inwards.

be used to go one step further.
8.5 Teaching in the workpiece
DDOC00734 / b
EN / 2020-07-28
To teach the gripper about the workpiece, the workpiece is simply gripped by pressing and holding the movement buttons
on the right. The gripper detects the standstill and „remembers“ the workpiece posi-tion.

DDOC00734 / b
EN / 2020-07-28

The gripper thus automatically sets its „closed“ position just behind the workpiece tolerance, provided it is a servo gripper
with freely adjustable positions.

8.10 Checking the settings
The workpiece training for the gripper is almost finished. But the data is not stored in the appropriate recipe yet!
INFORMATION
Here you can still check the setting without using the real IOs of the controller.
The settings can also be checked without the real IO‘s of the controller.
Input field:
ÖÖ Click with the mouse in the blue fields to set a command.

In this window, the „plug HMI“ button can be clicked to transfer control authority to the digital IOs.
ÖÖ The control LED on the right-hand side then lights up red.
It is now no longer possible to control the gripper with the HMI software, since the IO signals now have control. Now the

9 Operation
The gripper is controlled very easily by the external control system via the digital IO (see Chapter 7). The following list shows
the basic commands (all signals are static signals):
• Open the gripper with the signal Cmd_Release
• Close the gripper with the signal Cmd_Grasp
• The signals isReleased, isGrasped, isClosed stand for the feedback signals of the gripper to the control system
• Switch the motor on/off with the command Cmd_Motor_On
• The command Cmd_Homing starts an external reference run
• If a workpiece recipe stored in the SCM module is to be activated, select it binary coded with the signals Cmd_
Workpiece_Bit_0..3. As soon as these are active, the corresponding feedback signals Act_Workpiece_Bit_0..3 are sent
and the recipe is active.
ÖÖ To do this, please bring the gripper to a standstill first!
INFORMATION
After a cold start, the SCM module starts without a connected HMI, first with the primacy of the IO signals with
the last saved configuration.
This means that after configuration is complete, the HMI can be closed and the PC with the network cable can be
removed. The SCM module and the connected grippers can now function by using only the controller.
If you have any further questions, please contact the Zimmer GmbH customer service.
10 Troubleshooting
Please refer to the corresponding assembly and operating instructions for the gripper for fault diagnosis in the event of
gripper messages or gripper malfunctions.
