Before You Begin Please note once the cement powder is mixed with water, the resulting concrete mixture will start to harden. Although this is a gradual process, always check the condition of the concrete while mixing. Pour the moulding when the concrete mixture is like a smooth paste, approximately 2-4 minutes after the powder is mixed with water. If you are new to concrete mixing, it is recommended that you try a small portion (50g concrete mix with approximately 20ml of water) to first experience how the mixture develops and hardens. D1. Mixing The Concrete Use a mixing bowl, a stirring utensil, and approximately 200-240ml of water. Cut open the bag of concrete mix and pour it into the mixing bowl. Gradually add the water while checking the state of the paste. Stir the mixture gently while pouring the water. Note: Do not pour too much water in at once, as this may make the mixture too runny to mould. Depending on the atmospheric conditions, the concrete mix (500g) will normally become a smooth paste after adding approximately 200-240ml of water. D2. Moulding Place the mould on a level surface and carefully pour the mixture into its cavity. Gently agitate the mould to release air bubbles. As it will take a day for the concrete to dry, be sure to place the mould in a location where it will not be moved or otherwise disturbed. D3. Decorating The Stone As it is very difficult to move or rearrange objects once they have been set in the concrete, we recommend that you draft your design before you start to decorate the stepping stone. After pouring the concrete mix, wait 10 minutes to apply the mosaic pieces, glow star, and glass stones to the stone. If you want to write words on your stone, allow the concrete mix to harden around 20-30 minutes more. At that stage, the stone will not be too soft or too runny to add words. Use the carving tool provided or a toothpick to carve any words you like. You may need to go over the words with a carving tool or a toothpick several times before they are deep enough. If the stone is still too wet, wait for a few minutes, and try again. Finally sprinkle the glitter on the stone and allow it to dry completely. After 24 hours, remove the stone from the mould and enjoy your work of art! Remarks: If you find the stone has sharp edge, use the carving tool or sandpaper to smooth the edge. D1.
