32 / Michigan Farmer August 2006 ■ Machinery/Technology Miller unveils a ‘do-it-all’ welder M ILLER Electric Mfg. Co. is unveiling the Shopmate 300 DX to meet a number of needs for large-scale farmers and ranchers. The new machine uses single-phase 230/460/575 VAC and allows the user to switch between MIG, flux cored, Stick and TIG welding by turning a process selector switch and using the right accessories. A companion MIG-only model is the Shopmate 300. Both machines have a range of 5 to 400 amps (250 amps at 60% duty-cycle use) and feature Miller’s arc-control circuitry that has previously only been found on more expensive three-phase machines. Miller officials says the new line addresses agriculture’s need for many forms of welding in a budget-conscious manner. Both welders are equipped with a 10-pin connector for direct hookup of 15- and 30-amp spool guns, and a 14-pin T H E S I M P L E M AT H O F connector for Miller wire feeders and accessories, such as remote amperage controls for TIG welding. The Shopmate series also features a line voltage compensator that allows a steady, predictable arc despite changes in input voltage of up to 10%. ■ For more information on the Shopmate 300 and 300 DX, call (800) 426-4553, or visit www.millerwelds. com. HYBRIDS How Better Seed Builds a Better Bottom Line Better Breeding Pays. It’s Your Business. Do the Math. Add up the benefits of hybrids: fewer inputs, in-the-plant insect protection, better growth in dry weather, stronger plants, less labor and cost all season. The results are real: 761 Top -10 F. I.R.S.T. winners and 74 NCGA State Champions. Last year, in 5,600 locations, our new hybrid introductions out-yielded competitive brands with similar traits by 8.13 bushels per acre. How do we get there? With one of the richest privately owned germplasm pools in the world and a proprietary doubled-haploid breeding process that gets traited hybrids into your fields two years faster. YieldGard® Plus with Roundup Ready® Corn 2 provides maximum insect protection with excellent crop safety. That‘s no surprise to growers who know that paying a little more for superior seed can cost less and deliver better yield. MILLER ELECTRIC’S new Shopmate 300 DX and 300 feature multipurpose welding capability and single-phase power requirements for 230/460/575 VAC. The Shopmate 300 DX supports MIG, TIG, Stick and flux-core wire welding with the turn of a selector switch.
