Do not allow the cut part of the wire tie to interfere with any harness or brake hose. • Be sure to observe all safety notes and precautions described in the Service Manual while removing and installing the fuel tank. Gasoline is extremely flammable and is explosive under certain conditions. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine stopped. Do not smoke or allow flames or sparks in the area where gasoline is stored or where the fuel tank is refueled. TORQUE CHART Tighten all screws, bolts and nuts to their specified torques. Loosely install the speaker holder on the handlebar as shown. VTX1800F/N 3. Loosely install the speaker as shown. Attach the digital amplifier emblem in the position shown. Loosely install the amplifier unit as shown. VTX1800R/S/T WASHER RIGHT SPEAKER HOLDER 6 mm SH FLANGE BOLT (short) Loosen the lock nut. DIGITAL AMPLIFIER EMBLEM 2~3 mm HOLE AMPLIFIER UNIT SPEAKER HOLE LEFT SPEAKER HOLDER 4. Install the bracket on the amplifier unit as shown. LEFT MIRROR 5 mm SCREW Align the holes. Install the sub bracket as shown. • Tighten the upper bolt first, then tighten the lower bolt. 7. Route the amplifier unit harness as shown. AMPLIFIER UNIT HARNESS SUB BRACKET 5 mm SCREW CLAMP Route the amplifier unit harness through the clamp. COLLAR 6 mm SH FLANGE BOLT (long) TORQUE: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 9 lbt·ft) BOLT (Save) 8. Route the speaker harness and amplifier unit harness and connect them as shown. Align the split in the clutch holder with the punch mark. CLUTCH HOLDER SPEAKER HARNESS SPLIT PUNCH MARK AMPLIFIER UNIT HARNESS 4-PIN WATERPROOF CONNECTORS © 2006 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 08B08-MCH-1000-91 5 of 10 9. Route the audio harness and connect it as shown. VTX1800C/F/N SPEAKER HARNESS 10. Route each harnesses as shown. Install the headlight in the reverse order of removal. • Refer to the illustration shown below and bundle the harness in the headlight case. Route the audio harness as shown. - After ‘04 models - - Up to ‘04 models - AUDIO HARNESS CLAMP Secure the audio harness. AUDIO HARNESS WIRE TIE Secure the audio harness to the motorcycle’s harness. WIRE TIE Secure the audio harness to the clamp. FUEL TANK Raise the fuel tank. AUDIO HARNESS FRAME MOTORCYCLE’S WIRE TIE Route the audio harness through the wire tie . AUDIO HARNESS Put the audio harness in the gap between the frame and hose. 12. Route the audio harness and connect it as shown. Store the connectors in the harness boot. 15. Attach the jack holder in the position shown. VTX1800C/F/N WIRE TIE AUDIO HARNESS JACK HOLDER Thoroughly clean the area where the jack holder will be attached and remove the adhesive backing before attaching. VTX1800R/S/T WIRE TIE AUDIO HARNESS 14. Insert the audio harness sub cord terminal into the jack holder as shown. AUDIO HARNESS SUB CORD TERMINAL Apply isopropyl alcohol to the terminal and insert fully into the jack holder. JACK HOLDER JACK HOLDER Thoroughly clean the area where the jack holder will be attached and remove the adhesive backing before attaching. VTX1800C/F/N VTX1800R/S/T SPEAKER HARNESS SPEAKER HARNESS CLIP Secure the speaker harness. AMPLIFIER UNIT HARNESS CLIP Secure the speaker harness and audio harness sub cord terminal. AUDIO HARNESS SUB CORD TERMINAL Put the excess harness in the headlight. AMPLIFIER UNIT HARNESS WIRE TIE Secure the amplifier unit harness and audio harness sub cord terminal harness to the motorcycle’s harness. AUDIO HARNESS SUB CORD TERMINAL Put the excess harness in the headlight. WIRE TIE Secure the amplifier unit harness and audio harness sub cord to the motorcycle’s harness. HANDLEBAR HOLDER CLIP Thoroughly clean the area where the clip will be attached and remove the adhesive backing before attaching. © 2006 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. Sit on the motorcycle and adjust the speaker so it faces toward you. Tighten the speaker holders securely. • Move the handlebar right and left and check that the harnesses are not pinched by components and that they are not pulled taut. 19. Connect the sub cord as shown when it is used. Tighten the upper bolt first, then tighten the lower bolt. UPPER HOLDER LOWER JACK HOLDER SPEAKER SURFACE SPEAKER Align the center of the speaker with the center of the motorcycle and secure it. SUB CORD 20. Install the clip on the sub cord and attach it to the motorcycle in a way that it does not interfere with riding the motorcycle. 18. Install the removed motorcycle parts in the reverse order of removal. CLIP Thoroughly clean the area where the clip will be attached and remove the adhesive backing before attaching. 21. Check the controller, speaker, headlight and the other lights for proper operation.
