This conversion and all servicing requiring access to non-insulated components must
be performed by qualified service personnel. DO NOT open any access panel until
appliance has been disconnected from electric power. Failure to heed this warning

This conversion replaces the early-style counterbalance mechanism
with a redesigned counterbalance assembly. This new assembly allows tension adjustment without disassembly.
This manual details the conversion and initial adjustment procedures.
For normal operating procedures refer to Operation Manual FT-18
Finishing Toaster (p/n 305091).

COUNTERBALANCE CONVERSION
DISASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION
CAUTION:
1. Disconnect toaster from electrical power. Allow to cool before
proceeding.

Tools Required:
#1 Phillips Screwdriver
Large Flat-blade Screwdriver
Med. Flat-blade Screwdriver
Razor Blade
IMPORTANT:
Note assembly sequence of
platen pivot. Be sure all
components of the platen
pivot (shaft, bushings,
retainers and retainer screws)
are removed and saved.
2. Remove and save handles, platen pivot assemblies, stabilizer bars
and crumb tray. Be sure handles are separated from platens.
3. Remove and discard rear panel.
4. Remove 8 screws holding counterbalance assembly to chassis.
Remove and discard entire counterbalance assembly.
5. Scrape all remaining silicone sealant from rear areas of chassis.
Thoroughly clean crumb tray shelf.

Tools Required:
#1 Phillips Screwdriver
7/16" Nut Driver or Socket
7/16" Box End Wrench
Med. Flat-blade Screwdriver
Food-Grade Silicone Sealant
INSTALL NEW ASSEMBLY
1. Apply a thin bead of food-grade silicone sealant to top rear edge
of crumb tray adapter. Attach crumb tray adapter to front of
counterweight assembly.
2. Apply a heavy bead of silicone to bottom of crumb tray.
3. Assemble counterweight to chassis. Insert hex head screws from
outside with self-locking nuts on the inside. Be sure the back of the
uprights are flush with the back of the chassis before tightening.
Wipe up any excess silicone sealant.

4. Assemble arms, handles and stabilizer bars to counterweight.
5. Be sure tension adjusters are backed out. Individually, press arms
down to align with platens, then install platen pivots.
6. Install back panel and insert crumb tray.
7. Check both sides to be sure they raise and lower smoothly.

ADJUSTMENT
ADJUST PLATEN TENSION
1. ADJUSTMENT LOCATION
a. Right platen tension adjuster is located on back of the toaster,
on back side of the right upright.
b. Left platen tension adjuster is located on back of the toaster,
on front side of the left upright.
2. TO ADJUST
a. Loosen lock nut.
b. Turn adjust screw until platen raises easily, latches securely
in the upright position, and lowers without undue effort.
c. Tighten lock nut while holding adjust screw.
3. Adjust both upper platens to the same "feel".
