Scenarios and Results
Scenarios and Results
This section provides scenarios that cover various workflows involving input from multiple
geographic locations, the anticipated results, and actual outcomes.
The locations are: Aberdeen (AB), Edinburgh (ED), and Glasgow (GL). Each site has its own
servers for Interplay Central, Interplay Common Services, and Interplay Production (PAM). The
single iNEWS server is located in Glasgow.
Workflow #1 - Standard Workflow
1. IPC user (G1) in Glasgow creates an iNEWS story (#1) with a sequence in the GL-PAM
system.
2. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen creates an iNEWS story (#2) with a sequence in the AB-PAM
system.
3. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow opens and modifies story #1 and the sequence in the GL-PAM
system.
4. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow STPs the sequence to an AirSpeed 5000 in Glasgow.
5. IPC user (A2) in Aberdeen opens and modifies story #2 and the sequence in the AB-PAM
system.
6. IPC user (A2) in Aberdeen STPs the sequence to an AirSpeed 5000 in Glasgow.
Expected Results: Stories created and updated without errors. Media delivered as expected.
Actual Outcome: Stories and media processed as expected.
Workflow #2 - Manual Sequence Load
n
Avid recommends this workflow as the preferred setup.
1. IPC user (G1) in Glasgow creates an iNEWS story (#1) with a sequence in the GL-PAM
system.
2. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen navigates to story #1.
Expected Results: No errors appear.
Actual Outcome: No errors appear.
3. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen selects the Open Sequence button.
Expected Results:
-
A mob_id error appears.
-
No sequence loads.
2
Scenarios and Results
-
No new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
Actual Outcome: The message “Given mob_id cannot be resolved.” is displayed. No
sequence is loaded. Neither the Sequence pane nor Media pane is modified, and no sequence
is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
4. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen selects the Open Sequence button again.
Expected Results:
-
A mob_id error appears.
-
No sequence loads.
-
No new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
Actual Outcome: The mob_id error is displayed. No sequence is loaded. Neither the
Sequence pane nor Media pane is modified, and no sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
5. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen modifies the story’s body and form and then saves the story.
Expected Results: No errors appear and no new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
Actual Outcome: No errors appear and no new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
6. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow views the same iNEWS story (#1) and loads the sequence.
Expected Results:
-
The iNEWS story shows edits made by the IPC user in Aberdeen, but the sequence has
not changed from the one created by the IPC user (#1) in Glasgow.
Actual Outcome: The story and sequence appear as expected.
7. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow edits the story and sequence.
Expected Results: Both story and sequence are modified accordingly.
Actual Outcome: The story and sequence are edited without errors as expected.
n
If repeating the steps of Workflow 2 by using the search feature to find the iNEWS story, instead
of standard navigation methods, the expected behavior and actual outcome remain the same.
Workflow #3 - Automatic Sequence Load
1. IPC user (G1) in Glasgow creates an iNEWS story (#1) with a sequence in the GL-PAM
system.
2. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen navigates to story #1 and sequence autoload is triggered.
Expected Results:
-
A mob_id error appears.
-
No sequence loads.
-
No new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
3
Scenarios and Results
Actual Outcome: The message “Given mob_id cannot be resolved.” is displayed. No
sequence is loaded. The contents of both the Sequence and Media pane remains the same,
but the Player will switch to Output mode if the user was in Asset mode. Output mode still
shows previously loaded sequence. No sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
3. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen selects the Open Sequence button.
Expected Results:
-
A mob_id error appears.
-
No sequence loads.
-
No new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
Actual Outcome: The message “Given mob_id cannot be resolved.” is displayed. No
sequence is loaded. The contents of both the Sequence and Media pane remains the same,
but the Player will switch to Output mode if the user was in Asset mode. Output mode still
shows previously loaded sequence. No sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
4. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen modifies the story’s body and form and then saves the story.
Expected Results: No errors appear and no new sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
Actual Outcome: User receives the mob_id error with every story save, and no new
sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM.
n
Because of this repeated error it is not recommended to use sequence autoload for users who
access stories associated with multiple PAM environments.
6. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow edits the story and sequence.
Expected Results: Both story and sequence are modified accordingly.
Actual Outcome: The story and sequence are edited without errors as expected.
n
If repeating the steps of Workflow 3 by using the search feature to find the iNEWS story, instead
of standard navigation methods, the expected behavior and actual outcome remain the same.
Workflow #4 - Interplay Transfer
1. IPC user (G1) in Glasgow creates an iNEWS story (#1) with a sequence in the GL-PAM
system.
2. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen navigates to story #1 and loads the sequence.
4
Scenarios and Results
Expected Results:
-
A mob_id error is displayed.
-
No sequence loads.
-
Sequence pane and Media pane (Output mode) clear if they contained any sequences
before load.
Actual Outcome: The message “Given mob_id cannot be resolved.” is displayed. No
sequence is loaded. Neither the Sequence pane nor the Media pane is modified, and no
sequence is created in Aberdeen’s PAM. If Media pane is in Asset mode, it switches to
Output mode.
3. PAM user in Glasgow or PAM user in Aberdeen triggers Interplay Transfer of sequence
from GL_PAM to AB-PAM.
Actual Outcome: As expected.
4. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen navigates to story #1 and loads the sequence.
Expected Results:
-
Sequence loads.
-
No sequence exists in IPC Sequence Save location.
Actual Outcome: Sequence loads as expected and no sequence exists in the IPC Sequence
Save location.
5. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen edits and saves the sequence.
Expected Results:
-
Copy of sequence is saved in IPC Sequence Save location.
-
Sequence in IPC Sequence Save location is linked to transferred sequence (copy), not a
new instance of the sequence (duplicate).
Actual Outcome: Copy of sequence is saved as expected. The sequence is linked to the
transferred sequence.
6. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen uses STP to send the sequence to AirSpeed 5000.
Actual Outcome: As expected.
7. IPC user (G2) in Glasgow navigates to the story and opens the sequence.
Expected Results:
-
No errors appear.
-
User sees original GL-PAM version of the sequence.
-
Sequence is not read-only
Actual Outcome: As expected.
5
Terminology
Workflow #5 - STP to an FTP server at Different Site
1. IPC user (A1) in Aberdeen uses STP to send sequence to FTP server in Glasgow.
Actual Outcome: As expected.
n
The status “the event-status shows ONLINE in the rundown of the destination system” could not
be checked. This works only when you have iNEWS Command and do the FTP to an AS5000.
Terminology
•
PAM: production asset management (Interplay Production)
•
IPC: Interplay Central
•
ICS: Interplay Commons Services
•
STP: Send to Playback
