Prepare for Installation
Follow the steps below to prepare for the installation of your RVL transmitter.
Installation Site Guidelines
Follow these installation site guidelines to make sure that your RVL transmitter provides service with excellent reliability.
•
When choosing the installation site, consider the following:
- The site must have sufficient power.
- The site must be indoors and non-hazardous.
- The site must not expose the RVL transmitter to direct sunlight.
•
The maximum operating ambient temperature of the RVL transmitter is 50 °C (122 °F).
- Measure the ambient temperature 5 cm (2 in.) away from all cooling openings.
- Make sure all cooling openings/grids are not obstructed to confirm proper airflow.
- The surrounding air temperature must not exceed the maximum operating ambient temperature of 50 °C (122 °F), especially when mounted in an enclosure.
- The RVL transmitter can be stored in a surrounding air temperature range of -5…+60 °C (23…140 °F).
- The relative humidity (RH) of the ambient air must be 80% noncondensing when the RVL transmitter is operating or being stored.
•
When planning the cable connections (see Table 1 on page 4) and layout (see Figure 2 on page 4 and Figure 3 on page 5) of your RVL transmitter:
- For electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), place the cables away from the source(s) of electric noise (such as power cables, high-voltage power sources,
transformers, electric welders, or radio frequency (RF) sources) that could compromise the quality of the signal.
- Do not place the RVL cable together with power cables unless an adequate insulation class is provided.
- The chassis of your RVL transmitter must be connected to ground via the ground (earth) screw.
- Consider the placement of required components and the maximum length of the cables to connect your RVL transmitter to other components.
Your RVL transmitter provides long-distance connection up to 100 m (328 ft).

Required Equipment
To complete the installation of your RVL transmitter, the following equipment is required.

• DVI cable, shielded, 11 m (36 ft) maximum length
TIP: Two DVI cables are required if your installation requires a separate RVL transmitter (6300V-RVLDV-TX).
• USB 2.0 cable, shielded, 11 m (36 ft) maximum length
TIP: Two USB 2.0 cables are required if your installation requires a separate RVL transmitter (6300V-RVLDV-TX).
• 24V DC (input voltage 18…32V DC) Safety extra low voltage (SELV) power supply
IMPORTANT: The SELV power supply must: 
(a) satisfy the requirements of a safe extra low voltage (SELV) in accordance with IEC/EN/DIN EN/UL60950-1 and
(b) fulfill the requirements NEC Class 2 LPS in accordance with IEC/EN/DIN EN/UL60950-1.
Connect the system with a cable cross-section of 0.75 • 1.5 mm2 (from AWG18 to AWG16 suitable in a minimum of 75 °C (167 °F).
TIP: The internal power supply is protected against reverse polarity. To minimize ground loop currents and noise, we recommend that your DC powered RVL receiver uses only
one grounded connection. See Install the Ground Wire on page 8 for the ground connection on these models.

For wall mount, shelf mount, or DIN rail attachment:

Unpack your RVL Transmitter
Before you unpack your RVL transmitter, inspect the shipping carton for damage. If damage is visible, immediately contact the shipper and request
assistance. If there is no visible damage, proceed with unpacking.
Your RVL transmitter ships with the following items:
•
RVL transmitter, 6300V-RVLDV-RTX
•
DC terminal block kit
•
Mounting kits
- Book mount kit: bracket (quantity 1) and screws (quantity 2)
- Wall mount kit: brackets (quantity 2) and screws (quantity 4)
- DIN rail mount kit: rail hook (quantity 1)
Mount the RVL Transmitter
If you will be installing your RVL transmitter in an environment where vibration is present, your RVL transmitter must be secured to a shelf, wall, or
DIN rail using one of the three mounting kits (supplied). If vibration is not present and your RVL transmitter will not be mounted to a wall, shelf or DIN
rail, proceed to Connect the RVL Transmitter on page 7.

Identify your mounting type in Figure 4 or Figure 5.
Insert the supplied screws (A) through the mounting holes of the bracket(s) (B) and into the mounting holes of your RVL transmitter (C).
For DIN rail mounting types: Use the screws provided with the book mount kit.
Be sure the DIN rail hook is properly positioned as shown in the DIN rail hook profile in Figure 5.

Tighten the screws with a 2.5 mm hex screwdriver to a torque value of 1…1.2 N•m (8.85…10.62 ft•lb). to secure bracket(s) or DIN rail hook to your RVL transmitter.

Secure your RVL Transmitter
Before securing the RVL transmitter to the wall or shelf, be sure you are adhering to the Installation Site Guidelines on page 3.

Check that your RVL transmitter is level and square.
Mark and drill pilot holes in the wall or shelf.
For book mount or wall mount installation: Insert the M4x20 mounting screws (not provided) through the mounting holes of the bracket and into the pilot holes on
the wall or shelf, then tighten the mounting screws.
For DIN rail bottom mount or DIN rail back mount installation: Position the DIN rail hook onto the DIN rail (not provided).
Connect the RVL Transmitter
Follow the steps below to connect your RVL transmitter.
Assemble the DC Terminal Block Kit
The connector assembly provides strain relief for the DC power wires by reducing their movement. Follow the steps below to assemble and attach the DC terminal block kit.
The DC terminal block in the photos is only for illustrative purposes. Your DC terminal block can differ in size, shape, and color to what is shown in the photos.

Open the DC terminal block (supplied) (A in Figure 6).
Insert the cable tie through the slots of the appropriate connector clamp (B in Figure 6).

Strip the end of each DC power wire to the length in Table 2.

DC power wires must be of stranded copper and sized according to Table 2.
Insert each stripped end into the DC terminal block as shown in Table 2.
Tighten the screws on top of the DC terminal block to secure the DC power wires to the torque value in Table 2.
Slide the connector half with the attached cable tie onto the end of the DC terminal block (C in Figure 6).
Tighten the cable tie so it is snug against the terminal wires.
Use cutting pliers to cut the excess cable tie (D in Figure 6).
Install the white label supplied with the kit (E in Figure 6).
The white label can be used for identification or other information.
10. Align and install the other connector clamp half to complete the assembly (F in Figure 6).
When installed correctly, both tabs of the clamp half lock into place

Align and install the other connector clamp half to complete the assembly (F in Figure 6).
Reconnect the DC terminal block with the connector assembly to your RVL receiver (G in Figure 6).
Torque the DC terminal block flange screws to the values in Table 2.
Turn on the main power switch or breaker.
Tighten the screws on top of the DC terminal block to secure the DC power wires to the torque value in Figure 6.

Install the Ground Wire

Be sure that the main power switch or breaker is still turned off.
Remove the supplied nut, eyelet terminal, and washers from the ground screw on the side of your RVL transmitter.
See Table 1 on page 4 for the ground screw location.

Attach a 2.50 mm2 (14 AWG) or larger external wire to the eyelet terminal.

Use a grounding wire with an insulation color that is approved by your local inspection authority.

Description
Strip 5.00 mm (0.20 in.) from the covering at the end of the grounding wire.
Insert the stripped end of the grounding wire into the open end of the eyelet terminal, and crimp it securely to the wire.
Install the ground wire and washers to the ground screw in the sequence shown at the right.
Reinstall the ground screw to the chassis of your RVL transmitter.

The chassis of your RVL receiver must be connected to ground via the ground screw.
Recommended: Supply the computer circuit be supplied with its own disconnect.
Use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to help protect against unexpected power failure or power surge.
Attach the I/O Cables and Power Cords

Attach the RVL cable, DVI-D input, and USB 2.0 cable to the I/O ports at the front of your RVL transmitter. See Table 1 on page 4 to identify I/O port locations.
Connect the free end of the I/O cables and power cords to your hardware depending upon your layout (see Figure 3 on page 5).
Connect the free end of the power cords to your wall outlet.
Once power is supplied to your RVL transmitter and other hardware, light-emitting diode (LED) status indicators will illuminate on the front of your RVL transmitter.
See Table 1 on page 4 for a description of each LED status indicator.
