Allen-Bradley Storage Drive Installation Instructions
The Allen-Bradley Storage Drive is designed to be used with VersaView® 6300 box and panel PCs that are sold without a storage drive. It offers an easy-to-install solution for adding storage capacity to your computer. The kit includes all necessary hardware and installation instructions. You can choose between solid-state drive (SSD) or hard disk drive (HDD) based on your needs and the computer model you own.

Throughout Expanded the Attention table to include the two bullet points in the Overview section. 1 Overview The provided hardware and plastic ties are to install a storage drive into the VersaView® 6300 box and panel PCs that are sold without a storage drive. ATTENTION: The customer is responsible for purchasing the following: • A storage drive that is appropriate for the internal temperature of the computer, and any environmental shock and vibration where the computer is to be used. Failure to consider how and where the computer is to be used can lead to storage drive failure and possible computer damage. • An operating system for the storage drive. You can download device drivers from the Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC) at https://compatibility.rockwellautomation.com/Pages/home.aspx. The storage drive installation kit contains the following items for each computer model. Computer Model Kit Contents Cat. No. 6300B-PBDx Wall Mount Box PC • Plastic bag • Eight M3 screws(1) • Four M3 vibration grommet screws to install a HDD • Four rubber vibration grommets to install a HDD • Four plastic spacers to install a HDD • These installation instructions (1) All eight M3 screws are needed for SSD installation; only four of the eight M3 screws are needed for HDD installation. The following electrostatic discharge (ESD) safe tools are needed for these installations: • • • An adjustable ESD torque screwdriver with a Torx T6 bit (for the Cat. No. 6300B-BMBx Book Mount Box PCs) An adjustable ESD torque screwdriver with a PH1 bit (for Cat. Nos. 6300B-PBCx and 6300B-PBDx Wall Mount Box PCs, and Cat. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs) Small cutting pliers to cut plastic ties (for Cat. Nos. 6300B-PBCx and 6300B-PBDx Wall Mount Box PCs, and Cat. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs) Storage Drive Installation Kit Installation Instructions Voltage Precautions The computers contain line voltages. Disconnect all power to the computer before you install or remove components. SHOCK HAZARD: Failure to disconnect power can result in severe electrical shock to an individual or damage to the computer. Electrostatic Discharge Precautions ATTENTION: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage static-sensitive devices or microcircuitry: • Disconnect all power before you work on the computer as detailed in Voltage Precautions. • Observe proper packaging and grounding techniques to help prevent damage. Cover the designated work area with approved static-dissipating material: • • • Use an anti-static wriststrap that is connected to the work surface. Use properly grounded tools and equipment. Avoid touching pins, leads, circuitry, or any other parts that are statically sensitive. Remove the Storage Drive Tray To remove the storage drive tray from the computer, perform the following steps. For Cat. No. 6300B-BMBx Book Mount Box PC 2 1. 2. 3. 4. Disconnect power to the computer. Open the front doors of the computer. With a screwdriver, loosen the spring-loaded screw that fastens the storage drive drawer. Remove the storage drive drawer from the computer. 5. Depending on your storage drive type, proceed to Install a Solid-state Drive (SSD) on page 5 or Install a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) on page 6. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs 1. 2. Disconnect power to the computer. Remove the three screws that secure the back cover of the computer. Top of Computer 3. Locate the storage drive tray and the two cables between the tray and the motherboard. 4. Disconnect the power (J10) cable, and then the data (J8) cable from the motherboard. 5. Remove the four M3 screws that secure the storage drive tray to the computer. Discard these four screws; the kit contains four new screws that must be used to reinstall the drive tray. 6. 7. 8. Remove the storage drive tray from the computer. Turn over the storage drive tray. With the cutting pliers, cut the two ties that secure the power and data cables to the storage drive tray. 9. Depending on your storage drive type, proceed to Install a Solid-state Drive (SSD) on page 5 or Install a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) on page 6. Disconnect power to the computer. Remove the two screws that secure the back cover of the computer. 3. Locate the storage drive tray and the two cables between the tray and the motherboard. 4. 5. With the cutting pliers, remove the tie that secures the data and power cables to the storage drive tray. Remove the two screws on the storage drive tray that are closest to the fan (each screw has red thread-locking sealant). 6. Remove the two screws on the bottom side of the computer. 7. 8. Remove the storage drive tray from the computer. Depending on your storage drive type, proceed to Install a Solid-state Drive (SSD) or Install a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) on page 6. For Cat. No. 6300B-BMBx Book Mount Box PC 1. 2. Place the SSD on a flat, static-free surface so the label side is facing down, and the power and data connections are at the bottom. Place the plastic cover that is included with the kit on top of the SSD. Align the four holes in the plastic cover with the four holes on the bottom of the SSD. The plastic cover is needed to align the SSD with the power and data connections inside the computer. 3. 4. 5. 6. Place the removed storage drive drawer on top of the SSD to match the top figure at right. Align the four holes on the storage drive drawer with the holes in the plastic cover and on the bottom of the SSD. Install the four Torx T6 screws that are supplied with the kit to match the top figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.7…0.8 N•m (5.2…6 ft•lb). Proceed to Reinstall the Storage Drive Tray on page 7. For Cat. No. 6300B-PBCx Wall Mount Box PC and Cat. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Place the SSD on a flat, static-free surface so the label side is facing down, and the data and power connections are at the bottom. Place the removed storage drive tray on top of the SSD to match the bottom figure at right. Align the four holes on the storage drive tray with the four holes on the bottom of the SSD. IMPORTANT Hard disk drives cannot be used in hazardous locations. For Cat. No. 6300B-BMBx Book Mount Box PC 1. 2. Place the HDD on a flat, static-free surface so the label side is facing down, and the power and data connections are at the bottom. Place the plastic cover that is included with the kit on top of the HDD. Align the four holes in the plastic cover with the four holes on the bottom side of the HDD. The plastic cover is needed to align the HDD with the power and data connections inside the computer. 3. 4. 5. 6. Place the removed storage drive drawer on top of the HDD to match the top figure at right. Align the four holes on the storage drive drawer with the holes in the plastic cover and on the bottom of the HDD. Install the four Torx T6 screws that are supplied with the kit to match the top figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.7…0.8 N•m (5.5…6 ft•lb). Proceed to Reinstall the Storage Drive Tray on page 7. For Cat. No. 6300B-PBCx Wall Mount Box PC and Cat. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. From the kit, locate the four rubber vibration grommets. Press a rubber vibration grommet into each side tab of the storage drive tray to match the middle figure at right. Each vibration grommet has a slot in the middle, so an equal portion of the grommet is on each side of the tab when installed correctly. Place the HDD into the storage drive tray with the label side up, and the power and data connections at the bottom. Align the four holes in the sides of the HDD with the four slots with the rubber vibration grommets. Install the four M3 vibration grommet screws that are supplied with the kit to match the middle figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). Proceed to Reinstall the Storage Drive Tray on page 7. For Cat. No. 6300B-PBDx Wall Mount Box PC 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 6 Place the HDD on a flat, static-free surface so the label side is facing down, and the power and data connections are at the top. From the kit, locate the four rubber vibration grommets. Press a rubber vibration grommet into each hole of the storage drive tray to match the lower figure at right. Each vibration grommet has a slot in the middle, so an equal portion of the grommet is on each side of the tab when installed correctly. Place a plastic spacer over each of the four holes on the bottom side of the HDD. Place the storage drive tray with the installed grommets on top of the HDD to match the lower figure at right. Verify that the tray holes and plastic spacer holes are aligned so you can next add grommet screws. Install the four M3 vibration grommet screws that are supplied with the kit to match the lower figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). Proceed to Reinstall the Storage Drive Tray on page 7. Rockwell Automation Publication 6300V-IN001C-EN-P - May 2021 Storage Drive Installation Kit Installation Instructions Reinstall the Storage Drive Tray To reinstall the storage drive tray into the computer, perform the following steps For Cat. No. 6300B-BMBx Book Mount Box PC 1. 2. 3. Open the front doors of the computer. Reinstall the storage drive tray into the storage drive drawer in the front of the computer. With a screwdriver, tighten the spring-loaded screw that fastens the storage drive drawer. 4. Reconnect power to the computer. For Cat. No. 6300B-PBCx Wall Mount Box PC and Cat. Nos. 6300P-xxxA/B/E/F Panel PCs 1. 2. Connect the data and power cables to the storage drive connections. With plastic ties from the kit, secure each cable to a tab at the bottom of the storage drive tray. 3. Pull each plastic tie until it is snug, and then remove any tie excess with the cutting pliers. 4. With four M3 screws from the kit, reinstall the storage drive tray in the computer to match the figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). IMPORTANT 5. 6. 7. HDD shown only for illustrative purposes. Do not reuse the original screws. The screws in the kit have a thread-locking sealant to help protect against shock and vibration. Reconnect the power cable to the motherboard (J10) and the data cable to the motherboard (J8). Reinstall the cover on the computer; see step 2 on page 3 for the screw locations. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). Reconnect power to the computer. For Cat. No. 6300B-PBDx Wall Mount Box PC 1. 2. 3. Return the storage drive tray inside the computer. Connect the data and power cables to the storage drive. With two M3 screws from the kit, reinstall the storage drive tray inside the computer to match the top figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). IMPORTANT 4. 5. 6. Do not reuse the original screws. The screws in the kit have a thread-locking sealant to help protect against shock and vibration. With two M3 screws from the kit, reinstall the storage drive tray to the bottom side of the computer to match the bottom figure at right. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). Reinstall the cover on the computer; see step 2 on page 4 for the screw locations. Torque each screw to a value of 0.6…0.7 N•m (5.5…6.2 ft•lb). Reconnect power to the computer.
