Installation & Operating

Instructions

Introduction

The Arlec Long Range Wireless

Door Chime (DC335) consists of two separate units:-

1. Push Button Unit (Transmitter)

2. Chime Unit (Receiver)

These units are completely self-contained and no wiring between them is necessary.

This unit incorporates a ‘strobe’ chime indicator, which flashes visually indicating when push button has been pressed. The Long Range function of this unit enables you to operate the

Chime unit from a distance of 200m.

Range

The range of this door chime is up to 200m. (Range depends upon location, temperature and battery condition).

Push Button Unit

The Push Button Unit is operated by 1 x 12volt Alkaline battery

(A23 type - included).

1. Remove the back of unit casing by pushing tab on the bottom with a small flat screwdriver (see fig 2).

2. Install battery with correct polarity as shown on internal markings (see fig 3).

Fig 2 Fig 3.

Ensure battery polarity is shown as indicated

Chime Unit

The Chime Unit is powered by 2 x ‘C’ Size batteries

(not included). Alkaline batteries are recommended for longer operating life, up to 2 years. Do not use rechargeable batteries, do not mix old and new batteries or different types.

To Install Batteries

1. Remove Battery Cover from rear of unit by sliding it towards the bottom edge of unit.

2. Insert 2 x ‘C’ size batteries into the battery compartment, observing the correct polarity as shown on unit (see fig 4).

3. Replace battery compartment cover.

2

INSTALLATION

Chime Unit

The ‘keyhole’ shaped slot on rear of unit (above battery compartment),

(see fig 4) will enable the Chime

Unit to be easily mounted to a flat surface. ‘Keyhole” slot enables unit to be easily removed from mounting position for replacement of batteries or relocation.

Fig 4

Kehole shaped mounting slot

1. Drill appropriately sized hole and insert wall plug (if required).

2. Fit screw provided, ensuring that there is a gap of approx.

3mm between mounting surface and head of screw to enable attachment of unit.

3. Attach Chime Unit by sliding ‘Keyhole’ shaped slot over screw.

Alternatively unit can be left un-mounted, in this form it can also be used as a portable paging device.

Push Button Unit

The push button unit has two mounting holes on rear plate of unit.

1. Remove rear plate of unit

(see battery installation).

2. Using the back plate of the Push

Button unit as a guide, mark the position of holes onto mounting surface.

3. Drill appropriately sized holes and insert wall plugs if required.

4. Secure the back plate of Push Button unit to mounting unit .

5. Clip Push Button unit to back plate.

Alternatively the Push Button unit can be attached to smooth mounting surfaces such as painted wood, glass and plastic using Self-Adhesive Pad (supplied).

Important

Do not mount the Push Button unit on metal or near metal door frame, security door, or in close proximity to any metal door furniture. The range of the unit may be substantially reduced.

Tone Selection

The Arlec Long Range Wireless Door Chime is supplied with four built in chimes; Westminster, Ding Dong, 3 Note and Alarm

Chimes. The chime style is selected by a pushbutton inside rear of push button unit. This pushbutton is marked with “S”.

Each time that this Tune Selector push button is pressed, the next of the 4 chimes will be played. You can step through and listen to each in turn. When you hear the melody you wish to choose, do not press the tune selector again. The chime will play the selected melody each time the bell press is pushed. At any time you can select another melody by repeating the tune selector button process.

Refit the Push Button Unit rear cover. Whenever the Push

Button Unit battery is fitted or replaced, the chime tune may default to the Westminster Chime

Door Chime Operation

Once batteries have been installed, chime selected and the Push Button and Chime units have been installed in their desired locations, the system is ready for use.

Press button on Push Button unit momentarily, the chime should sound and the strobe on front of chime unit will flash. Press button again to repeat. Continual pressing of the button will not repeat the chime.

If chime fails to sound, check batteries in both units.

Switch

Strobe Control

The Strobe indicator can be turned off, by switching the switch located on the rear of the unit within the battery compartment, to “Off”. (See fig. 6)

Chime Volume

The chime volume can be controlled using the switch located on the rear of the unit within the battery compartment. The switch labelled “Lo Hi” selects between low-volume or hi-volume.

House Code Setup

Should your Door Chime unit activate intermittently for no reason at all, it is possible that the uncontrolled activation may be caused by another unit operating nearby on the same frequency coding.

The coded frequency of the Push Button transmitter and Door

Chime receiver can be changed to avoid this problem.

1. Remove rear of Push Button unit and battery cover of

Chime unit.

2. Remove batteries from both units and leave disconnected for at least 10 seconds. This will erase memory of existing code.

3. Re-insert batteries. The door chime will give two beeps indicating it is ready to accept new code.

4. Press the Push button unit once, it will generate a new house code randomly and transmit to the chime, which will store the code automatically.
