Snap trim and drip cap are sold separately. Required mounting fasteners are not included. Safety Read all instructions and safety labels before starting installation of this product. This Warning symbol indicates that the following procedure may create a condition where severe product and/or coach damage, serious personal injury or death may occur if stated precautions are not followed. This Caution symbol indicates that the following procedure may create a condition where product and or coach may be damaged and personal injury may occur if stated precautions are not followed. Moving parts can pinch, crush or cut. Keep clear and use caution. Resources Required • 1-2 People, depending on task • Cordless or electric drill or screw gun • Appropriate drive bits • Appropriate drill bits • Caulk gun • Gunnable sealant • Putty tape or closed cell PVC foam tape • #8 Screws (quantity depends on size of the door) - must be long enough to penetrate sidewall framing. If a strut bracket is installed, the #8 screw must be long enough to penetrate through the strut bracket into the coach's frame. • #10 Screws - must be long enough to penetrate sidewall framing at the strike plate and hinges Rev: 07.17.24 Page 2 CCD-0008633 Installation Exterior Frame Installation Steps 1-10 of the installation must be performed with the door assembly in the closed position. Step 11 must be performed with the door assembly in the open position. Note: The door is shipped with a jig (Fig. 2A) holding the doors together to prevent deformity. Leave the jig in place until step 10 of the instructions. Note: Spacer blocks come installed in the door assembly to hold and properly space the door in the frame. 1. Verify size of door opening is correct. Door "call" size is the required rough opening size. The actual door size will be undersized by 1/2" in width and height. (i.e. 26" x 72" door requires an opening of 26" x 72" but the actual door size will be 25 1/2" x 71 1/2"). Note: The rough opening size tolerance is +3/8" or -1/8" for width and - 1/4" on height. A rough opening of +7/16" or - 3/16" for the width is a Fail; +1/2" or -1/4" or over for the width is a Critical Fail. Note: The opening squareness measured corner to corner is +/- 1/8". Squareness measured +/-3/16 is a Fail; over 1/4" is a Critical Fail. 2. Install sealant tape around back side of the screw track frame. Lippert recommends using putty tape or closed cell PVC foam tape. Note: Excessive putty tape or foam tape in the plunger opening may restrict full engagement of the latching mechanism. 3. Make sure that the door is sealed along the bottom, either on the lip of the opening or the edge of the floor. Note: The deadbolt should be disengaged at this point. 4. 6. 7. 8. 9. D C I F H E G Set the door in the wall opening, so that the bottom edge sets flat on the floor and the door is centered in the opening. Note: If the door is offset to the latch side, the plunger may hit the side wall framing and not engage completely. 5. Fig. 1 A B Install a #8 screw in the hole nearest the bottom hinge (Fig. 1A) and another #8 screw in the hole near the bottom of the latch side (Fig. 1B). Install a #8 screw in the hole near top hinge (Fig. 1C). Make sure door sets evenly in the frame and that the frame on the latch side maintains a 1/4" minimum gap. Next, install a #8 screw into a hole near the top of the door on the latch side (Fig. 1D). Install the next four #8 screws in alphabetical order (Fig. 1E-1H). Install #8 screws in remaining pre-drilled holes on the door frame. Note: Each pre-drilled hole in the outer frame should be filled. Do not use additional screws. Rev: 07.17.24 Page 3 CCD-0008633 Note: Screws must be installed straight on the latch side of the door. Screws installed at an angle will cause the door frame to twist and may prevent the door from opening properly. This can also result in latch damage. 10. If installed, remove the jig (Fig. 2A) holding the screen and entry doors together. 11. Remove the spacer blocks on the entry door after the door is installed. Note: There is a spacer block (Fig. 3A) on the very bottom of the door. Fig. 2 A Fig. 3 A Rev: 07.17.24 Page 4 CCD-0008633 Interior Frame and Hinge Installation Note: Doors on motorized RVs have a subframe to handle the additional hinge and latch load requirements. Note: For doors with friction hinges or struts, be sure to read those sections later in this manual. 1. Insert shims measuring 3" to 6" in length between the subframe and the rough opening, directly above and below the strike plate (Fig. 4). Note: Do not insert a shim directly behind the strike plate, as this will interfere with latching. 2. 3. 4. Insert shims measuring 3" to 6" in length behind the hinges (Fig. 6). Secure the frame with 2 #10 screws placed within 2" above and below the strike plate or in the pre-punched holes. (Fig. 4A). Install one #10 screw in the middle leaf of each hinge (Fig. 6A). There are four hinges per door. Screw length must be long enough to penetrate sidewall framing. Note: After installing the door, the rotary bolt will need to be adjusted for proper latching (Fig. 5A). Note: Figure 4 is the catch of the door, Figure 6 shows the hinges. The hinge leaves attached to the door are hidden for clarity. Entry door and screen door are also hidden for clarity. Note: After installing the door, minor adjustment of the screen door and screen door catch will be necessary to achieve proper operation. Rev: 07.17.24 Page 5 CCD-0008633 Snap Trim and Drip Cap Installation 1. If applicable, install snap trim (Fig. 7A). Snap trim is installed from the outside in. Match the long leg of the snap trim to the long leg of the door frame. Note: Snap trim may need to be cut. It should be flush with the bottom of the door and high enough at the top that the drip cap overlaps. 2. 3. Install drip cap overlapping the snap trim (Fig. 8). Secure with #8 screws in pre-drilled hole locations. Screw length must be long enough to penetrate sidewall framing. Fig. 8 Fig. 7 A Drip Cap Predrilled Hole Snap Trim 4. 5. Run a bead of gunnable sealant on the bottom of the threshold (Fig. 9) along the entire width of the door. Do not leave any seal voids at the corners (Fig. 9A and 9B). Run a bead of gunnable sealant around the remaining edges of the door frame to completely weatherize the door. Fig. 9 B A Rev: 07.17.24 Page 6 CCD-0008633 Doors with Friction Hinges Friction hinges have pre-drilled holes. Secure doors with friction hinges as follows: 1. Secure the middle hinge and door frame to the coach's wall in the middle leaf with a #10 screw (Fig. 10). Note: Screw length must be long enough to penetrate the coach's wall framing. Note: There will also be pre-drilled holes on the first and fifth leaf (Fig. 10) of the hinge for optional fastener installation Note: Shims 3" to 6" MUST be inserted behind friction hinges. 2. Repeat steps 1-2 on any remaining friction hinges. Fig. 10 Pre-drilled Hole (Fastener Optional) Pre-drilled Hole (Fastener Required) Pre-drilled Hole (Fastener Optional) Strut Installation 1. 2. Using the mounting bracket's pre-drilled holes as guides, use an appropriate-sized drill bit to drill a pilot hole. Secure the strut's bracket to the coach framing (Fig. 11) with two #8 screws. Note: Screw length must be long enough to penetrate the coach's framing. Note: Some doors may come with a pre-installed strut assembly using a riv nut fastener instead of a mounting bracket (Fig. 12).
