Cross Technologies 2017 -81 Up/Downconverter Instruction Manual

Below you will find brief information for Up/Downconverter 2017 2017-81. The 2017-81 converts 70 MHz to 810 - 990 MHz (Up) and 810 - 990 MHz to 70 MHz (Down) in 1 MHz steps with low group delay and flat frequency response. Synthesized local oscillators (LO) provide frequency selection. Multi-function push button switches select the RF frequency, gain, and other parameters. Front panel LEDs provide indication of DC power (green), PLL alarm for up and downconverters (red), remote operation (yellow), and Upconverter mute (yellow). Gain can be manually controlled over a -10 to +30 dB range for the upconverter and over a 0 to +50 dB range for the downconverter as adjusted by the front panel multi-function push-button switches. Remote operation allows selection of frequency and gain. Parameter selection and frequency and gain settings appear on the LCD display.

Frequently asked questions

To change the upconverter frequency, press the "Menu/Execute" button to enter the menu. Use the horizontal rocker switch to move the cursor to the desired frequency and use the vertical rocker switch to change the frequency value. Once you have made your changes, press the "Menu/Execute" button again. This will take you to the "Save Settings?" menu. Select "Y" to save the new settings and "N" to revert to the previous settings. You can also scroll to "R" in any menu item, press the "Menu/Execute" button and select "NO" in the "SAVE SETTINGS?" window to return to the previous settings.

The alarm LEDs indicate a phase lock loop (PLL) coming out of lock for the upconverter or downconverter.

Connect a DB9 cable to the J10 connector on the rear panel of the 2017-81 and connect the other end to your remote control system. Configure the remote control system to communicate with the 2017-81 using the RS-232 protocol. The default baud rate is 9600, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 start bit, and 1 stop bit. You can use RS-422 or RS-485 with Option -Q.

The Menu/Execute button is used to enter the menu system and execute any changes to the settings. Any change to the programming of the unit must be initiated by pressing the Menu/Execute switch and completed by pressing the Menu/Execute switch.

To power the LNB (+24 VDC, 0.5 amps, max) from the 2017-81, install a 1 amp 1/4” fuse in F1 on the rear panel. Installing a fuse in F1 puts +24 VDC, 0.5 AMP power on the center pin.
