Air Quality Sensor
1. General
The carbon dioxide content of the indoor air is an effective
indicator of how many occupants are in a room and the
degree of ventilation required to maintain the air quality
we need. Ventilation control based on CO2 measurements
guarantee the adequate supply of fresh air, and at the
same time keeps energy costs as low as possible.

1.2 Function
RECTANGULAR DUCT
The air quality sensor transmits a 0–10 V output signal
that is proportional to its working range of 500–1500
ppm. The output signal is linear with the CO2 content.

2. Installation
Set the GOLD air handling unit to ”VAV REQUIRED” which
you’ll find below the Functions Menu ”FAN CONTROL”
(see the Operating & Maintenance Instructions). Set the
set point required. The set point is expressed as a percentage of the operating range of the sensor. If a set point of
1000 ppm, for example, is desirable, set the set point at
50%. This setting can be entered below the Flow menu
group and ”VAV CONTROL”, see the Operating & Maintenance Instructions. The supply air and the extract air flows
are controlled in parallel by the output signal transmitted
from the sensor.

Install the sensor with the airflow direction arrow on its
cover pointing in the direction of airflow through the ducting. The sensor can be mounted on the side or top of the
duct for vertical or horizontal air flow.
If the ambient temperature varies radically, for example
outdoors or in cold attics, insulate the sensor to protect it
from the ambient air and prevent the formation of condensation inside the detector housing.
To ensure satisfactory function, the sensor should be
located at a distance, in the direction of airflow, that is
equivalent to at least 3 x the hydraulic diameter of the
duct upstream of the nearest source of disturbance in the
ducting (see the examples of sources of disturbance). If
it is located downstream of the nearest source of disturbance, its distance from this source should be equivalent
to at least 5 x the hydraulic diameter of the ducting.

Point 1
• Drill an opening in the duct.
• 35 mm dia. opening for smoke detector without
mounting bracket.
• 50 mm dia. opening for smoke detector with moun
ting bracket (see point 8).
IMPORTANT!
The arrow on the plastic cover must point in the same
direction as that of the air flowing through the duct.

• Measure the ventilation duct.
• Cut the tube to an appropriate length, if needed.
• The tube should penetrate 90% of the duct diameter
into the duct.
• Insert the end plug.
Do not cut
this end!

• Slip the seal onto the tube.
• Insert the tube in the bottom of the sensor housing.
• Lock the tube in
position by means of
the stop screw.
Point 5 Electrical installation.
• Choose desired function by means of the jumper.

• Connect the cables as shown on the wiring diagram.

Point 4
• Mount the tube and the sensor on the duct.
• Secure the sensor housing at the 3 points indicated by
the arrows.

Point 6 Test of the detector
• Check the CO2 -detector by breathing on it.
Point 8
ELQZ-1-428-2-1 Mounting bracket for a circular duct or
an insulated rectangular duct.
The mounting bracket enables the detector to be installed
on a duct having a diameter as small as 100 mm.
The bracket is supplied completely flat.
Point 7
• Fitting of cover.
The bracket is easy to bend/form to fit on circular or flat
duct surfaces.
• Secure the cover.
Do not drill any holes in the cover for signs etc. Holes will
cause air leakages and seriously disturb the function of the
sensor.

2.3 Electrical Connections

Make sure that the arrow on the sensor cover points in the
direction of airflow.
Check that the cover and its gasket seals properly against
the base and that nothing is lodged in between them,
such as insulation.
