Dell Latitude Standard 3yr Next Business Day Service & Support
Intel® Processor and Chipset
Excellent Integrated Graphics Performance
The Dell Latitude X300 notebook features the latest Intel® Pentium® M processors.
Intel® Pentium® M processors feature a new micro-architecture incorporating a series of new
architectural, circuit & logic techniques such as micro ops fusion, advanced branch prediction,
dedicated stack management, a power-optimised 400MHz Processor System Bus (PSB), and
aggressive clock gating & device sizing techniques designed for higher performance & lower power.
These processors also feature 1 MB of power managed cache in addition to the Enhanced Intel®
SpeedStep® Technology with multi voltage/operating points to consume less than 1 watt average
The Dell Latitude X300 also uses the Intel® 855GM chipset. In addition to its integrated graphics
capabilities (described below), this chipset supports USB 2.0, up to 1152 MB of shared system memory
and the latest high speed ATA-100 hard drives.
The Dell Latitude X300 utilises the new Intel® 855GM integrated UMA graphics chipset featuring Intel’s
Dynamic Video Memory (DVM) technology. UMA graphics chipsets share graphics and system
memory by dynamically allocating system memory to graphics as needed by the applications currently
in use. When needed, the X300’s 855GM chipset can allocate up to 64 MB of system memory to
graphics. This provides outstanding 2D and 3D video performance for the most demanding Internet
and application software titles.
The Latitude X300 also offers dual-display capability, providing users with the opportunity to use both
the internal LCD and an external display simultaneously. Furthermore, based on the latest architecture
from Intel, Extended Desktop is fully supported in Windows 2000 and XP (Pro and Home).
LCD Display
The Latitude X300 offers 12.1” XGA Active Matrix (TFT) displays with 1024x768 resolution.
The Latitude X300 incorporates Dell’s latest 12.1” displays with power inverters that operate efficiently
to help improve battery life. The X300 displays can be dimmed to only 20 nits, perfect for dark rooms
and late night air travel. This dimming of the system display also increases battery life.
XGA (1024x768)
Pointing Device
The Latitude X300’s touchpad is centered below the keyboard spacebar to help provide ease-ofuse for both the left-and right-handed users.
The touchpad buttons correspond to the left and right buttons on a standard mouse but users can
enjoy “button-less” use by simply double-clicking on the touchpad itself to initiate programs. “Click
and drag” is also supported without the use of buttons.
Dell provides software for the touchpad, allowing users to set the sensitivity, motion, and drag and
drop features for their own performance.
Expansion Slots
PC Card Expansion
The Latitude X300 offers a single PC Card slot providing industry standard connectivity for portable
communications, system expansion and increased storage. The slot will accommodate a Type I or
Type II PC Card and is hot-swappable.

Wireless LAN Features
The Latitude X300 is wireless enabled -- each configuration ships with an integrated dual band
(2.4GHz & 5GHz) antenna and a mini-PCI Wi-Fi® 802.11 wireless LAN card.
The wireless LAN solutions available on the Latitude X300 allow users to stay connected while
roaming through a building or campus equipped with compliant Access Points.
The X300’s 2 dual-band internal antennae are utilised only when the mini-PCI wireless card is
installed. Users who choose to populate the mini-PCI slot with a Wi-Fi® 802.11 wireless card
benefit by leaving the PCMCIA slot available for other needs.
The indicator lights located on the RJ45 LAN connector indicate wireless status and link activity –
enabling user awareness of connectivity
The card can also be easily disabled by pressing the Fn-F2 key or through the BIOS setup screen.
The WiFi 802.11 Mini-PCI wireless LAN card is user accessible via the door on the bottom of the

•Dell D/Bay External Modular Bay
The X300 includes a Dell D/Bay and an integrated D/Bay connector (USB 2.0
connection) to connect optical and storage devices to the notebook via Dell’s new D/Bay
External Modular Bay. The connector allows the user to connect an additional hard drive,
optical drive or floppy drive to the notebook which creates a virtual 2nd spindle. Additional
optical drive offerings include 24X CD-ROM , 8X DVD-ROM or 24X CD-RW, or new 2X
DVD+RW. A 40 GB external 2nd HDD is also supported. All optical drives are compatible
with the Latitude D-Family products and are not X-series unique.
D/Bay connector includes a
USB 2.0 connector and a
power pin
Media Modules
The X300 is a single spindle system, but it provides a few avenues for obtaining additional spindles.
These include:
The X300 MediaBase
The Dell D/Bay External Modular Bay (comes standard with 24X variable speed CD-ROM, if no
MediaBase ordered)
The USB Connected Floppy Drive
(1) The Latitude X300 MediaBase connects to the underside of the notebook – providing easy access to an
internal media bay which utilises all of the D-Family media modules.
(2) The Dell D/Bay External Modular Bay connects to the left side of the system and utilises a speedy USB
2.0 interface.
(3) All modules can be used in conjunction with the floppy drive. This is accomplished by attaching the floppy
drive through a USB port with an industry standard USB cable included with the system.
The D-Family media modules include the DVD CD-R/RW Combination drive 8X/24X/10X/24X
variable, DVD drive 8X/24X variable, CD-R/RW drive 24X/10X/24X variable, 2X DVD+RW, second
40GB hard disk drive, or new DVD+RW drive 2X/16X/8X/4X/24X variable. The X300 does not
support the D-Family 2nd Battery module, but does provide an additional battery bay in the Media
Base for use with an additional X300 28WHr Primary battery. It also serves as a battery charger for
the primary battery.

• Strike Zone™
– HDD damage can occur when the system is set or dropped flat on any surface. To help
alleviate damaging the hard drive, Dell has optimised its design to control the shock response
spectrum measure at the hard drive when a system is shocked.
• HyperCool™ Hybrid Thermal Management System
– To contain the power of the new Intel® Pentium® M processors, the Latitude X300
incorporates Dell’s HyperCool™ thermal management system. The cooling system implements
Remote Heat Exchanger technology with a larger phase change liquid heat pipe and hybrid
cooler to dissipate the heat created by high-power CPUs. As needed, a variable speed fan
draws cool external air over high efficiency Aluminum fins and out the exhaust port.
Dell offers several means of physically protecting the notebook, hard disk drive and docking
solutions against theft.
Latitude Security lock slot: The Latitude X300 includes a slot opening on the back left side of the unit,
which helps secure the notebook to desk when in use. The MediaBase also provides a security lock slot.
