Precautions
* Use the specified thermal paper as the printing result is affected by the condition of used thermal paper (storage
environment, aged deterioration).- If you use the paper other than the specified paper, the printing density may
become low and the paper feed accuracy may degrade, so it is necessary to make an adjustment by raising the
printing density or reducing the printing speed etc.
* Be careful of storage temperature environment. The printing result may fade.
2.3.5 Others

user.

2.4.2 Precautions
- The printing range when the black mark is used should be within the use range shown in the figure above.
- For the setting value of printing range in the paper feed direction, be sure to ensure the margin shown in the
figure above not to exceed the pitch of the black mark. Take note that the defect of skipping page may be
generated if the margin is not ensured.
- The values are design center values and the printing area, right and left margins may be misaligned by up to
2mm depending on the paper position and the variation of parts. For the printing head alignment accuracy by
black mark detection, consider the error of ±2mm for the standard printing position, and for the printing length,
consider the error of ±5% for the setting value because there is variations of environmental temperature and
platen diameter processing accuracy and if you use the printed paper, pay attention to the printing layout
sufficiently. The pre-printing on the rear face of the paper is prohibited.
- The PCS value of the black mark should be 0.90 or more.

When "Thermal" is selected, the operation is based on the setting of the thermal paper as paper to be used and
when "Black MK" is selected, the operation is based on the setting of the black mark paper as paper to be
used.
* If "black mark paper" is selected when the model does not support black mark sensor
If MSW3-4 "Paper Select" is set to ON " Black MK " by mistake for the memory switch setting operation
for the model on which the black mark sensor is not mounted, the setting cannot be changed by
communication.
In this case, set MSW3-4 " Paper Select " to OFF " Thermal " again by the manual operation in the memory
switch setting mode (refer to P27 "3.3.3 ") and recover the system. In the memory switch setting mode, the
black mark paper setting is released, so it is possible to change the setting using the thermal paper.
● MSW4-1 Auto Length
If it ibis set to valid, the length measurement operation is automatically carried out when the power supply is
turned ON.

2.5.2 Precautions
- Usage duration depends upon print setting (density) or printing paper. Be sure to have enough space for cutting
position
- It is recommended to ensure 5mm or more of page margin from printing end to the cut position.
- When presenter is set at valid, allow a space of 5mm or more between the printing edge and cut position
specifically for full cut operation

When setting is valid, cutter operation will be executed.
When the presenter is set to valid, the cutter operation is carried out regardless of the setting of MSW2-2.
●MSW3-1 Resume Cttr Err
When it is set to valid, the system recovers from an error by pressing FEED switch when the cutter lock error
is generated.
However, the system may not recover from the error even if FEED switch is pressed depending on the status
of the cutter lock. In that case, release the cutter lock error referencing P60 “8.4 How to Release Cutter Lock
(Cutte Error)”
●MSW4-3 Feed&Cut at TOF
When setting is valid, following operation will be executed
MSW3-4 OFF:Selecting ”Thermal”
- After auto loading, full cut operation
- After opening-closing platen, full cut operation

2.6.4 Precautions
1)
Before connecting or disconnecting the connector, be sure to turn OFF the power supply.
2)
Be sure to use the input voltage within the specification range.
3)
Be sure to use the product by connecting Vp and GND completely.
4)
For the power supply, use the power supply from which the peak current can be obtained.
5)
The excessive pulling of power supply cable will cause the operation failure due to voltage
drop etc., so pay attention to the wire pulling length and the wire rod diameter.
6)
If you use the power supply other than that is within specification, it may negatively affect the
printing operation etc.
7)
If you use the power supply from which the peak current cannot be obtained, the printing
quality loss or the low-voltage error may be generated depending on the content of printing.
8)
For precautionary measure, power supply should be enabled to be turned OFF easily.
9)
Use the power supply with overvoltage protection, over current protection, and various
protection circuits.
10) Pay attention to improper wiring and misuse. Improper use may damage the printer and affect
the human body and other peripheral equipment etc.
11) The power supply voltage range is 24V±10%, however, the print density changes depending on
the voltage. In that case, make an adjustment with MSW10-1 "Print Density".

- Precautions
The lifetime of machine is adamantly 23,000,000 lines, and MCBF does not show the usable
lifetime.
2.7.3 Precautions
Machine reliability specification above shows the value when the recommended thermal paper is
used and the print density is set to 100%. Reliability cannot be assured for paper other than the
recommended thermal paper.

3.3 FEED SW
1) Paper feed function
When pressed once, the printer feeds one line depending on the amount of line feed set by ESC 2 and
ESC 3.
However, the printer does not feed in the following cases.

1) Function
This is the function to print the data sent from host machine with hexadecimal number and its
corresponding characters

- Set the printing paper. While platen cover is open.
- Turn the power supply to ON by holding down the FEED switch when the paper is set. Close
the platen cover.
- "HEX Dump printing mode" is printed on the roll paper, and the following data received is

3.3.3 Memory Switch Setting Mode
1) Available setting for Memory switch

2) Entering the memory switch setting mode
With paper set and printer cover open, turn the printer power on while pressing and holding the
FEED switch. Press the FEED switch twice, and close the printer cover, the mode is started.
After the setting mode is started, the guidance of setting content and operation method is printed.
3) Selecting memory switch
By pressing the FEED switch short (less than 0.5 second), the memory switches to be set shift in
the following order. Moreover, by detecting the paper by applying the paper to the recovery
sensor and pressing the FEED switch short in a same way, the memory switches to be set shift in
the reverse order of order shown below. At that time, the status of the selected memory switch is
printed. However, when (11) is selected, the confirmation of flash memory writing is printed.

4) Memory switch setting
① The status of setting item that is currently set is printed.
② By pressing the FEED switch short (less than 0.5 second), the content of currently selected
setting item is changed. At that time, if the status of the selected item is the currently set
content, ERROR LED lights up.
③ By pressing the FEED switch long (2 seconds or more), the setting of current setting item is
terminated and the setting shifts to the next setting item, and then the setting of the next
setting item is started.
④ By opening the platen, the setting related to the currently selected memory switch is
terminated. Then, the status of the memory switch after the change is printed by closing the
platen and the operation shifts to "3) Memory switch selection".
5) Exiting the memory switch setting mode
Setting will be saved, returns to initial state and exits the memory switch setting mode to
return to the normal standby state.

3.4.2 Precautions
- Be sure to carry out the work after pulling out the paper, interface, and the power supply connector.
- Take care not to clip cables etc. when you close the main board cover.
- Be sure to close the main board cover after the work. Do not use the product when it is exposed.
- The resistance (47Ω) has been attached to the LED of POWER and ERROR on the circuit side,
however, be sure to attach the resistance according to the rating of LED to be used (the saturation
voltage between collector and emitter of transistor is VCE (sat) = 0.3V (max) and the rated current
is 100mA (max)).
- For the FEED switch input terminal, refer to the circuit above. The ceramic capacitor is inserted on
the circuit side for preventing the chattering, however, take note that the chattering becomes large
depending on the switch.
- Do not use the connector for any purpose other than the operation external output. The wrong
usage may damage the printer and negatively affect the human body and the peripheral equipment
etc.

The transfer of status data from this printer to the host machine is implemented in Nibble or Byte
Mode.
[1] Outline
This mode defines the data transfer from the asynchronous printer controlled by the host
machine.
The data transfer in Nibble Mode is implemented using the existing control line and the data
is transferred by 4-bit (Nibble) unit.
In Byte Mode, 8-bit data line is transferred by changing it to bidirectional.
In each case, the communication cannot be executed at the same time as Compatibility Mode,
so the communication becomes half-duplex.
[2] Precautions
The first "n" of signal name indicates "LOW" active signal. If even one signal above is
omitted, the bidirectional communication cannot be performed. For each signal line for the
interface, be sure to use the twisted pair line and connect the return side to the signal ground
level. Every interface condition is based on TTL level and fulfills following characteristics.
The rising and falling time of each signal should be 0.5μs. The data transfer by ignoring
nAck signal or BUSY signal should not be implemented.
If such a signal is ignored, the data may be discarded. The length of the interface cable
should be minimum distance.

4) Sending the status from the printer
The printer can send the status in Reverse Mode (Nibble/Byte)
(GS a, DLE EOT n, GS r, GS I commands are used)
- The send buffer of the printer is 99 bytes. The host machine side should shift to Reverse Mode
to prevent the absence of status. If ASB is used, Reverse Idle status is desirable; however, if it
is not possible, whether there is send data of the printer should be monitored at all time. The
ASB status that is accumulated without being sent is collectively (OR) sent with the latest
status.

optimum position.
Loosen the screw slightly, and then slide the position of the PNE sensor (use △ mark and scale as a

6.3.4 Precautions
- The PNE sensor may malfunction due to ambient light, so when you use the PNE sensor, consider
the installation of light shielding cover etc. for preventing the ambient light from entering.
- The value of "external diameter roof roll paper when it is detected by PNE sensor" varies
depending on the model and the type of roll paper, so use it as a referential value.
- The paper near-end may be detected at the position that is not near the external diameter of roll
paper shown above, so adjust the installation position in that case.
- Do not use the PNE sensor other than that is made by our company. The wrong use may damage
the printer and negatively affect the human body and peripheral equipment etc.

8.2 Precautions
8.2.1 Failure
1) Never open the printer cover during printing and while the cutter is in operation. Otherwise, it
may result in injury, printer or auto cutter may be broken.
2) Note that static electricity on thermal head may cause breakage of driver IC, etc. Ensure that
ground wire connection is properly made
3) Do not remove paper with printer cover closed.
4) As thermal head heater and driver IC are easy to break, do not contact metal and sand paper to
them.
5) Do not block the paper exit. Never hold the paper during printing.
6) Do not print in the state where moisture is present on the head surface due to condensation, etc.
7) Set the roll paper properly not to generate bending.
8) Use the printer under stable condition without any vibration.
8.2.2 Print quality
1) In the case of intermittent printing where printing and paper feeding is interrupted by the status of
waiting for data coming from the host, paper feed may sometimes be disordered in the 1 to 3 dot
lines from the start of printing. Especially, care must be taken when printing graphics or the like.
2) If you set the paper and close the platen holder, the printer feeds the paper by a few dots and then
cut the paper. The cutting operation is not executed when MSW4-3 is turned OFF (paper head
alignment cutting invalid).
3) Never touch the heater of the head. Touching the heater by hand may cause degrading of print
quality due to soiled head.
4) Use of paper not recommended may be a disclaimer of warranty in print quality or life of thermal
head. Especially, inclusion of "Na+, K+, Cl−" in the component of recording paper may
degrade the life of thermal head remarkably.
5) To close the platen holder, hold the center or both ends and close securely. Closing the cover with
one end pressed may cause incomplete closing resulting in uneven printing.

8.2.3 Safety
1) Never touch the head by hand just after printing as it is heated during printing. Otherwise, there is
a risk of burn.
2) Use care in handling the edged part (especially cutter blade) of the components of the printer.
Erroneous handling may cause injury.
3) Do not insert hand into the exit of paper not only during printing but also when the printer is not
operating.

8.3 How to Set Paper (Replacement)
Follow the steps below to replace paper.
8.3.1 Paper Holder: PHU-102S
1) Remove shaft stopper. If paper core is
remained, pull out the core.
3) After confirming the winding direction of
paper, insert the core into the paper shaft
to the position getting over a guard and
press-in shaft stopper securely until it is
locked.
2) In case if the end of paper for replacement
is not aligned, cut straight cleanly with
scissors, etc.
4) Insert the paper end into paper inlet.
Automatic loading is started. (Automatic
loading does not start when MSW4-2 is
OFF)

- Be sure to use designated paper
- If you use paper other than designated, there may be the case of printing quality and life, etc, are not
guaranteed.
- Set paper straight without any slackness

8.4 How to Release Cutter Lock (Cutter Error)
Follow the steps below to release cutter lock (cutter error).
1) Turn the power OFF, rotate the cutter
motor with driver and store the cutter
blade.
3) Remove the cause of cutter lock such as
paper jam.
2) Open platen holder. Pay attention no to
place fingers underneath to avoid nipping.
4) Close the platen holder. Securely press
until it locks, then turn the power ON
and set the paper again.
Caution
- Pay sufficient attention not to touch the blade part of cutter because there is the case of moving blade of
cutter being jumped out.
- Pay attention not to touch the print head with hands because the head becomes high temperature just
after printing.
- Do not touch the surface of print head heating element with bare hands, metal, etc.

8.5 How to Remove Paper Jam
Follow the steps below to remove paper jam.
8.5.1 When Presenter is not installed
1) Turn the power OFF and cut the paper.
2) Open platen holder and remove the cause
of paper jam.
4) Turn the power ON and set the paper
again.
3) Close the platen holder. Press the holder
securely until it locks.
Caution
- Be sure to conduct paper jam removal after the power being OFF.
- Pay attention not to touch the print head with hand because the head becomes high temperature just
after printing.

8.6 Function of Presenter
This printer has the function of recovering paper automatically after ejection. This function is transferable
between valid and invalid with memory switch.
- After cutting printed paper, the function recovers paper after certain time passed under the status of

recovery of forward ejection or rear side recovery
after a certain time passed with the setting of
MSW11-3 (Retract Direction).
By the execution of Receipt Recovery Command GS
R 0, conducts instant recovery operation.
- The recovery time is able to be set with the Setting Command, GS ( E, of
customized value. Also, the recovery time until power being OFF is changeable
with the setting command, GS R 1, of the Receipt Recovery Timer value.

8.7 Bezel function
This printer is equipped with a function for controlling the bezel LED during standby / printing /
discharge. This function can be switched to valid / invalid using the memory switch.
- For the bezel, two types; for main unit and for presenter are available. For the bezel for the main unit,
the bezel paper detection sensor is attached in the bezel and the paper can be detected.
* For details on each command, refer to the command reference.
8.7.1 Memory switch setting
The bezel function can be set by MSW12.

When an error is generated, the bezel LED is displayed by synchronizing it with
the error LED.

LED abnormal display is enabled.
4) MSW12-6
Function
: No print with paper
: When the bezel paper detection sensor detects the paper, validity / invalidity of
next printing / discharge operation is selected.
This function becomes effective only when the bezel for the main unit is attached.
Operation at OFF (invalid): Even if the bezel paper detection sensor detects the
paper, the next printing / discharge operation is
carried out.
Operation at ON (valid):
If the bezel paper detection sensor detects the paper,
the next printing / discharge operation is carried out
after the sensor does not detect the paper.

8.8 Maintenance
1) Periodical cleaning of thermal head, platen unit, presenter roller, and cover unit
- If dust or paper powder is attached to the thermal head, platen unit, presenter roller, and cover unit,
the troubles such as printing quality loss and paper feed failure are caused.
In order to use this product long, it is recommended to clean up the thermal head, platen unit,
presenter roller, and cover unit periodically.
2) Index of cleaning implementation cycle
- Platen unit, presenter roller, cover unit
For every 10km of printing distance, or once a month
- Thermal head
As occasion demands when the printing quality descends
3) Cleaning method
- Turn OFF the power supply and wipe off the dirt attached to the surface of heating element of head,
presenter roller, surface of platen rubber part, and cover unit with a cotton applicator dipped with
ethanol.
Precautions
- As the temperature of the print head is high immediately after the printing, do not touch it.
- Do not touch the surface of heating element of print head with bare hands or metal etc.

9.7 Installation
- The printer should be installed on the flat surface (flatness 0.3 or less) with a sufficient strength.
- Take care not to be injured by an edge of plate when you install the printer.
- Do not move the printer by holding a weak part such as harness because it may cause an unexpected
accident.
- This printer should be secured by four screws (M3x6 to 10mm) at the position shown below.
- If the printer main unit does not contact the metallic part when you install it, make the ground connection
using the FG connection screw shown below.
- When you install the wall (positionA indicated Fig 9-4), the wall inside should be smooth and flat face to
not be caught by the edge of paper.
Under lower temperature environment, paper jam may occur while rear paper
collection as well as minimum length of ticket is set at 75mm. Set accordingly at 120mm. Refer to P62
“8.6 Function of Presenter”.
