One of the simplest battery maintenance tasks is also one of
the most poorly performed: battery watering. Over-watering
a battery can create “boil overs,” spilling sulfuric acid onto
the surface of the battery, the lift truck, floors, racks and,
potentially, workers. Over time, boil overs can decrease the
life of a battery by six months or more. Under-watering often
happens when batteries aren’t watered on schedule or when
batteries are manually watered and the operator accidentally
skips a cell. This can result in permanent damage. In the
worst case, a damaged cell would need to be replaced —
an expensive proposition.
The Blinky™ revolutionizes the way workers check
electrolyte levels in industrial truck batteries. It simplifies
battery watering, alerting operators only to the batteries
that require watering. No watering schedule is needed and
less time is wasted. The Blinky blinks steadily when the
electrolyte is OK and goes out when the level is low. The
operator can see that the battery needs water even from
the other side of a dark battery room. Better still, he can
see when the battery is OK and doesn’t need water, so he
doesn’t waste time checking batteries that are filled.
The Blinky™ features a patented circuit that prevents false
indication due to leakage paths and tracking on a dirty or
wet battery. It is UL Classified® and is covered by a one-year
limited warranty.
